Introduction
The class is structured into three parts: important articles of the Indian Constitution, Padma Awards, and a GK/GS practice test. The goal is to solve approximately 50 MCQs, integrating these topics.
Important Articles of the Constitution
Article 326 says that anyone 18 or older has the right to vote, which is a legal right. Article 312 is about All India Services like IAS, IPS, and IFoS. Article 324 talks about the Election Commission, and Article 330 reserves 84 Lok Sabha seats for Scheduled Castes and 47 for Scheduled Tribes.
President's Oath and Powers
Article 60 discusses the President's oath, administered by the Chief Justice of India. Article 61 deals with impeachment, which can start in either the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. Article 72 covers the President's pardoning powers, and Article 75 states that the President appoints the Prime Minister and other central ministers.
Article on Untouchability
Article 17 talks about the abolition of Untouchability. Article 20 protects the rights of individuals who have been arrested or detained. Article 19 guarantees freedom, and Article 18 is about the abolition of titles.
Right Against Exploitation
Articles 23-24 discuss the right against exploitation. Article 23 prohibits human trafficking and forced labor, while Article 24 addresses child labor. Articles 14-18 ensure equality, 19-22 provide rights to freedom and 29-30 talks about minorities.
Religious Freedom and Fundamental Rights
Articles 25-28 discuss religious freedom. Articles 29-30 cover the rights of minorities, and Article 32 deals with constitutional remedies. There are six fundamental rights, borrowed from the USA, and they are enforceable in the Supreme Court and High Court.
Article 371G and Other Special Provisions
Article 371G is specific to the state of Mizoram. Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu & Kashmir, was revoked in 2019. Article 371 includes provisions for Maharashtra and Gujarat, 371A for Nagaland, 371B for Assam, and so on for other states.
Fundamental Rights and DPSPs
Articles 12-35 cover fundamental rights, which are part of Part III of the Constitution. Part I (Articles 1-4) deals with the Union and its territories, Part II (Articles 5-11) covers citizenship, Part IV (Articles 36-51) includes Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSPs), and Part IVA contains Fundamental Duties. These have been borrowed from USA, UK, Ireland and Russia respectively.
President of India and Duties
Article 52 states that there shall be a President of India. Article 51, a DPSP, promotes international peace. Article 40, also a DPSP, discusses village panchayats. Article 78 outlines the duties of the Prime Minister towards the President and the Council of Ministers.
Appointment of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers
Article 164 says that the Chief Minister is appointed by the Governor. Article 75 states that the Prime Minister is appointed by the President. Article 164 says that the Council of Ministers and the CM are responsible to the Legislative Assembly.
UPSC Establishment and Functions
Article 315 discusses the establishment of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The President appoints UPSC members, while the Governor appoints members to the State Public Service Commission (SPSC). The tenure for members is 6 years, with a retirement age of 65 for UPSC and 62 for SPSC. Article 316 deals with the appointment and tenure of members.
GST Council and Fundamental Rights
Article 279A discusses the GST Council, headed by the Union Finance Minister. GST was introduced through the 101st Amendment and implemented on July 1, 2017. Articles 12-35 contain the fundamental rights for Indian citizens, borrowed from the USA.
Ordinance Power of the Governor
Article 213 grants the Governor the power to issue ordinances, while Article 123 grants the same power to the President. The Governor can grant pardons under Article 161, and the President under Article 72.
Right to Life and Personal Liberty
Article 21 guarantees the right to life and personal liberty, including the right to marry, sleep, privacy, a clean environment, digital access, and good health. During a national emergency under Article 352, fundamental rights can be suspended, but Articles 20 and 21 cannot be suspended.
Equality of Opportunity and Emergency Provisions
Article 16 ensures equality of opportunity in public employment. Article 12 defines the term "State". Article 30 protects the rights of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions. Article 352 allows the President to declare a national emergency.
Human Trafficking and Right to Education
Article 23 prohibits human trafficking and forced labor. Article 21A guarantees free and compulsory education for children aged 6-14, making it a fundamental right. This was introduced by the 86th Amendment in 2002 and enforced from April 1, 2010.
Attorney General and Advocate General
Article 76 discusses the Attorney General of India, who is appointed by the President. Article 165 discusses the Advocate General of the State, appointed by the Governor.
Padma Awards
The Padma awards include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, in that order. In this year, five people received the Padma Vibhushan, 13 received the Padma Bhushan, and 113 received the Padma Shri.

Padma Vibhushan recipients include Mr. Dharmendra Singh Deol, Shri V. S. Achuthanandan (posthumously), Ms. N. Rajam, Mr. K. T. Thomas, and Shri P. Narayana. Padma Bhushan recipients include Alka Yagnik, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Kalpathi Ramaswamy, Manmutti, Dr. Nori, Piyush Pandey (posthumously), SKM, R. Ganesh, Shibu Soren (posthumously), Uday Kotak, V. K. Malhotra (posthumously), Willapalli, and Vijay Amritraj.
Padma Shri and Important Personalities
Padma Shri recipients include Rohit Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Savita Punia, and Praveen Kumar. Budri Tati from Chhattisgarh, known as the "Badi Dadi," received the Padma Shri for her work in women's empowerment and de-addiction. Dr. Ramachandra and Sunita Gadbole received it in the couple category for medicine.
