00 is Dan and I love making everyday Tech easy I worked at Apple for 19 years and now I get to serve as a pastor at our church today I want to go back to um a subject matter that I just recently addressed which was Apple watch on my last video If you haven't watched it I'll link it up on a card above I talked about how Apple watch was the most underrated productivity tool I think ever made especially from the Apple platform and I got a lot of requests um my next video that I wanted to present was one on Focus mode and I'm still doing that one that one is in in the works but I got so many requests about specific Apple watch features when it comes to Apple health and that's why I have titled this uh video um the most
47 lifechanging device that you can wear and I truly mean that Apple watch has so many unique features that make it the most lifechanging device that you can wear if you just Google it you'll see how there have been people's literally whose lives have been saved by a notification on their Apple watch or maybe they were left stranded and they were able to use their Apple watch as something to communicate because their phone fell or was inoperable and they had the cellular feature turned on but here's the part that always gets me as I talk to friends and family and they're rocking an Apple Watch again the majority of people are just buying an Apple Watch possibly just just to get your notifications but there's so many features on there and
34 for me the health feature is huge most people think automatically well it's a great device to work out and it sure is it'll track your Fitness progress it'll track your steps how many times you stand up and sit down and move but there are so many I think even more important features that many people don't even activate so in this short video hopefully is short I just want to address some of the top features that I think are going to be instrumental to your health so let's check it out the first one that I want to talk about is Apple Health right or the health app I should I should I should say um all the information by the way that I'm going to be going over is readily available on Apple's website but one of the very first great features of the Apple watch
21 is the fact that it has um a heart tracker right built in now what's up with the heart notifications and how does that really really work well um to enable heart notifications on your Apple watch and if you're watching or if you're listening I'm I'm actually sharing this on the screen Apple watch is capable of detecting either high or low heart rate um at any given point so if you have your Apple watch with you if you have your your iPhone as well here are the simple steps that you can do on your iPhone you want to start by opening the Apple Watch app if you don't know where it's at or maybe you've accidentally deleted deleted it from anywhere on your phone you can swipe down and literally start typing the
06 words Apple watch from your home screen on your iPhone and you will find the Apple Watch app next you want to tap where it says my watch tab then you want to tap heart and then there you can tap high high heart rate then choose a BPM and then you can choose a low heart rate for yourself now why is this so important listen so many people have just been what I call chillaxing at home watching TV maybe you driving to work maybe you're at work and you're stressed out and you kind of feel your heart rate a little bit elevated but you're not you don't have a blood pressure cuff on you or you don't have a an EKG machine nearby how do you know if you're having
51 an accelerated heart rate if you're not working out well the Apple watch can start to learn what your average heart rate is right your average beats per minute and they can start tracking that on device right it's all safe and secure and you can start monitoring that so once you enable that feature of it tracking your high heart rate and your low um heart rate it will notify you silently it'll just give you a tap and say hey I I I kind of see that you have an accelerated heart rate or you have an extremely low heart rate and it'll typically ask you how are you feeling is there anything that you want to take a a note of now I would love to know if you're watching this video if if that's ever happened to you if it has uh give me an example of when or how that
37 happened and what did what did you do did you ever follow up with your cardiologist or with your primary care doctor how amazing the fact that you're walking around with the most life-changing device and it's probably on your wrist already the fact that Apple watch can track your heartbeat whether high or low and notify you at a moment's notice so next time you're feeling a little off and the watch is not Ying you check with the doctor check it out that could save your life now listen if the Apple watch has already notified you of either very high heart rate or a very low heart rate I'd love to hear about it drop me a comment down below now not only can the Apple watch track high or low heart rates it can also do an ECG now well Dan what is an ECG well an ECG it's better known as an
23 electro cardiogram and it basically measures the electricity of what uh the the amount and the strength of the electricity taken in your heart in order for your heart to be now obviously a doctor or cardiologist will look at that data and determine if there's any irregularities in your heart rate or your heartbeat but I want to show you what um Apple has on their website the very first thing that you have to do is that you have to set up the ECG app and you do that by again grabbing your iPhone opening up the health app and scrolling down to where it says um ECG and you follow the easy steps on how to set this up for the very first time I am so surprised that many people have not
09 set this up sooner on their Apple watch this was one of the very first things I did as soon as I updated and upgraded my Apple watch now after you set up the ECG app you have to take well an ECG and it'll tell you step by step on the app on how to do so now the amazing thing here if you've ever gone to the doctor and you've ever gone for a a checkup and maybe they've done an EKG with a bunch of leads all over your chest and your arms and even your legs that is a more much more comprehensive um EKG this is a one lead because it's using the tip of your finger resting on your crown with when you whenever you're in the ECG app this tells you so much but what I love about this feature so so let me back up
56 a second not only can the Apple watch track whether you have a elevated heart rate or a low heart rate whenever you're feeling a little just a little off you don't know what's going on maybe you have some palpitations maybe you're feeling a little stressed and you want to see what's going on when you open up the ECG app on your Apple watch you'll get that little image where It'll ask you to rest your index finger on your on the crown of the Apple watch you should this you should do this sitting down your arms resting in a very calm position just gently tap and kind of leave your finger on that Crown what I love about this feature is not only can you can you record this ECG but once you have all that data saved up you can share this um EKG or ECG with your
45 primary care doctor and if you notice there on the image on your screen if you look all the way at the bottom it'll track every time that you run an ECG it'll record the date it'll record the time you can easily export this as a PD F and uh email it to your doctor this is amazing amazing um so if you've never set that up man I highly encourage you do it for yourself it doesn't matter if you're in shape if you're out of shape if you're underweight regular weight overweight like we all should be uh tracking and having a better sense of our heart condition so the most life-changing device that you're probably wearing Apple watch great for your heart but what else is a great for well it's very good it's great for
32 physical health and I think that's what most people typically buy an Apple Watch for listen this is great for motivation it's great for uh documentation and tracking of your physical progress now in the latest um iOS uh watch update you can now track the intensity of your workout this is a great motivation to be to keep all these things in track how many times are you moving are you standing up listen I'm guilty I'm I'm the guy who works at your at his computer for far too often on a daily basis I have a sit stand desk when the Apple watch notifies me to stand I try to stand it's on the hour every hour but the Apple Health app has so many features don't just use it to close the
18 circles dive well within fine-tune it to the type of exercise that you're doing and check out the uh the the way that you can take your workouts to the next level by um watching what zone right you can measure all the ways that you move from strength training to high intensity training to Pilates to whatever your flavor of Apple health or or working out is you should definitely do it now one of the things that just got implemented which is super awesome is your vitals as you start tracking your health and you're tracking your blood oxygen you're tracking your exercise you're even tracking how much time you're spending outdoor Apple has now compiled all this data into the vitals app which I'm going to
05 do a deep dive on a on a later on a future video because I think this is where it all culminates and puts all the data before you so you can have better data of your life now the last one that I really quickly want to focus on is personal safety because again to me it boggles my mind that many people don't know this within Apple watch you have personal safety features now if you're if you're you're wearing your Apple watch right now depending on which one you're wearing if you press and hold um the side button not the crown not the round one but typically the flat one underneath of your crown button you will see that you have different options depending on which model you have if you have the Apple watch Ultra or one of the later ones you will see the siren um
51 feature there that siren is is exactly what it means it is to notify um if you want to get somebody's attention now now Dan why would I want to do that well listen the most extreme case you're hiking you know on some Mountaintop and you and you slip and fall and you you break your ankle and and you're in pain and you can't really scream maybe you're super tired your phone tumbled off and you hear somebody in the distance you can actually activate your siren that's an extreme situation but it could be that you're just simply lost in the in a park you're lost somewhere where your child can't find you you can activate the and maybe have that communication with your your your loved one or or your your child and say hey if you ever hear this come look for mom come look for Dad come
37 look for your spouse you can kind of check that out but one that's really really important is it's one there that's called medical ID you can probably see it hopefully I know the phone's GNA the camera is going to want to focus in on my my face here but the medical idea is pretty important because you can actually go into your um Apple Health app on the phone you can actually put personal information there that could be vital for your life obviously you can put your age you can put emergency contacts on there not only your spouse you can put a friend a relative you can put multiple people there you can put um how tall you are your your weight if you have a specific
22 blood type now let me tell you this is life saving um fire professional firefighters and and and fire rescue um officers have literally been trained that if they come on scene and the person is UN in unconscious and they're wearing an Apple Watch even though the Apple watch is going to be locked with your your password by simply pressing and holding that side button uh they can activate and they can see your medical ID now on top of that that's really up to you you can enable this feature within the the health app you can enable this feature to be visible to anyone without your password and again it's very limited information it could be your your name your age emergency
08 contacts your blood type if you have any severe allergies I know people that have had serious incidences where someone coming up on them they're they're they're unable to speak they can quickly find out that they've gone into some type of allergic reaction and they need their EpiPen and they're unable to speak listen there are many many many more features where the Apple watch could save your life from a slip and fall to a crash detection there's just so many reasons to be using Apple watch with that capability but if you're not then this is not the most life-changing device that you can wear but I can tell you if you have an Apple Watch you are literally wearing the most life-changing
53 device that you can physically buy you can't go buy readly available an e CG machine and carry that with you you can't go bu something that can can call somebody if you are uh fallen and unconscious or if you're involved in a car accident there these are these are things that are features that are found in and maybe in certain vehicles and certain devices I fallen and I can't get up remember that from the from the 80s and the 90s all that is built in your Apple watch but if you're not using it you are truly missing out listen this video is getting a little too long already and I want to uh wrap it up so if you have any questions specifically about Apple watch and apple Health drop it below if you have an amazing story of how Apple watch saved your life or saved
