Digimon Adventure 2020 Discussion Vol. 2: THE GANG COMES TOGETHER | Billiam

Brief Summary

In this episode of "Digi Discussions," Billy and his friends Niko, Lexi, and Arizona discuss episodes 6 through 10 of the Digimon Adventure 2020 reboot. They share their thoughts on character introductions like Mimi and Joe, evolution sequences, and plot developments such as the introduction of time flow and the appearance of new, powerful Digimon like Metal Tyrannomon. The group also touches on fan theories, production changes, and their overall excitement for the series, despite some pacing and character development concerns.

  • Mimi's character is well-received for her immediate likeability and unique traits.
  • The introduction of time flow adds a new dimension to the narrative, though it alters the sense of urgency.
  • Episode 8 is highlighted as a standout episode for its teamwork and character development.
  • The group discusses the implications of MetalGreymon's early appearance and its potential impact on future character arcs.

Episode 6: Mimi's Kingdom and Character Introduction

The group discusses episode six, which introduces Mimi and her initial interactions in the digital world. Mimi quickly establishes a kingdom for herself, showcasing her unique personality. The group appreciates the relationship between Mimi and Palmon, describing it as wholesome. They also like that Mimi's sensitive side is shown early on, making her more likeable compared to her original series counterpart. The episode also introduces the concept of stakes, as Palmon comes close to dying, adding depth to the narrative.

Episode 7: Joe's Introduction and Evolution Sequences

The panel shares their opinions on Joe, with mixed reactions to his initial dismissive attitude and later attempts to take on a leadership role. They discuss the evolution sequences, particularly praising Ikkakumon's design and Gomamon's cute attacks. There's also speculation about potential production changes affecting the quality of evolution animations, with hope for improvements in future releases.

Episode 8: Yamato's Development and Teamwork

Episode 8 is lauded as a standout episode, focusing on Yamato's character development and the importance of teamwork. The group appreciates how Yamato's initial "edgy" behavior is quickly resolved, leading to genuine character growth and a believable shift towards cooperation. They highlight specific moments, such as Yamato apologizing for calling the team members dead weight, as refreshing and impactful. The episode's action sequences and the integration of each character's abilities into the fight are also praised.

Episode 9: Ogremon's Sacrifice and Plot Development

The group discusses the "Digimon of the Week" segment and Ogremon's unexpected sacrifice, which adds depth to the world-building and character motivations. They note that Ogremon's actions blur the lines between good and bad, making the world feel less black and white. There's a debate on whether the plot is light or heavy, with some feeling it's moving too quickly and lacking downtime for character development.

Episode 10: MetalGreymon's Arrival and Character Dynamics

The group analyzes the introduction of Metal Tyrannomon and the subsequent evolution to MetalGreymon. They discuss the implications of this early evolution, particularly how it might affect future character arcs and the power dynamics between Digimon. There's criticism of Tai's solo actions and a desire to see more teamwork and strategic planning. The group also touches on Koshiro's role as a vlogger and the excitement for seeing the characters split into smaller groups for more personal interactions. They end by renaming their Digimon podcast to "Baby Flame Podcast".

0:00 hey what's up y'all welcome back to another digimon digi discussion episode two last time we talked about episodes one through five we're going through the new digimon adventure 2020 series five episodes at a time and responding to your comments about each episode i am a big digimon fan i grew up watching digimon i got a digimon tattoo solely for a joke and a video so i think you guys can like determine how much i like digimon but i'm sitting here with my friends who have barely seen digimon or watch digimon a little bit as a kid so anyways i'm billy i like digimon a lot i'm niko i've never seen digimon before i'm lexi i also have never seen digimon ever in my life before this day right now and who who are you what are you doing here i'm arizona i just live here i also just want to say just because we got some concerned comments last night

0:45 that all of us are doing best practice social distancing right now um so we all either live together or live alone so we're not putting anyone else at risk by doing this uh so i i promise you that is something we're concerned about we we can't afford not to be living in florida um and also in orlando right next to uh disney world so all right so last time we talked about episodes one through five do you guys have any like retrospective thoughts i do on the first few episodes we watched or any like things you want to say that you didn't get a chance to see in the last video yes one thing yeah baby flame that's it i disagree um you're wrong you're right about that one so i think in last video i said quite a bit what i wanted to say that obviously i'm a big digimon

1:33 fan and what i'm really looking forward to this series is seeing a well-produced listen when i say well produced you can't go around do this don't do this don't do this you know that i have enough guilt in my resting state you can't you can't do this now so where we last left off they were introducing the sort of main cast and episode six continues that so episode six tai chi's party comes across an orchard and meets a mysterious girl mimi tai chi and his friends find out that a kingdom is targeted by some ferocious digimon so uh what do you all think just you know let's start talking about the characters these episodes are centered around what'd you think of mimi i like her i like her theme music i i i know i said it when you're watching it i love how it starts with like little chimes because it reminds me of zelda music but then it turns into a harpsichord and i felt like listening to it raised

2:19 my net worth i like it a lot i like that episode because mimi gets to the digital world and immediately sets up a kingdom for herself she's a she's a monarch she has a throne she has vassals who are just working for her she's just sitting getting fanned by all these little digimon while they're all working and she didn't worry anytime she went zero times i like mimi a lot but i'm a big fan of palm on yeah that's my favorite digimon you cannot change my mind they have a great relationship yeah their relationship is so pure it is just wholesome wholesome wholesome so this is from bojack 90. i loved mimi mimi took all the best aspects of her earlier incarnation and her and palmon's interactions were great i'm torn about the kids knowing about the time delay since it takes away the

3:06 urge to get back home quickly but it also lets them take breaks so me me in the original show was just sort of like spoiled and i feel like it wasn't until later that they start to start like showing you her more sensitive sides and i i like it that instead of using those moments to reveal characterization later that they're just sort of doing it yeah like when you see her worrying about her grandfather you see that she has like a little heart you know yeah it makes her more likeable it does it absolutely if she was just a brat i wouldn't like her and i wouldn't want her on the team i wouldn't want to know anything more about her you have to make it to where when they're introduced you like them and then i think they're doing a great job yeah i think they're doing it especially with me yeah we get to sympathize with her immediately because her digimon almost [ __ ] dies this is the first time we see

3:51 any digimon coming close to dying or fainting or whatever that world is but we don't know it's [ __ ] disturbing yeah so you're like oh the steaks steaks yay i love that word we're coming back with the steaks we didn't realize it yeah oh my god so can we just talk about pokemon i like them yes i like them a lot i oh my god i appreciate the color palette of the the evolution sequence like with the petals and yeah i love that it was beautiful it's beautiful it looks just like this yeah oh my god palpable is behind us evolving yeah oh my god so togamon is always my least favorite of that stage of digimon because i just thought the cactus with boxing gloves was so incredibly dumb but [ __ ] seeing little like pokemon go full little mac yeah yeah like emoji monitors i'm on one of my

4:36 favorites now yes pokemon because of that one like little snippet that shot shows me that pokemon has the biggest potential for really snappy and good animations yeah oh my god i like battle so true especially after seeing bedroom on so much oh my god every time he attacks you're like poor bird german yeah like oh my god like i bergerman this is the first time i've ever really considered just how pitifully ugly yes you still ugly babe i'm so sorry i think it's because of the animation though because i feel like if they were to make bergeron really like cool like animated well because it would just look like a dragon bird yes yeah and what i what i think bothers me the most is how sora is attached to her

5:23 because so her legs have to be where she's standing upright so when she flies she's just like yes here we go yeah so if she was like you know like a normal bird and actually aerodynamic i think she would look a lot cooler it would yes she's not even flapping her wings she's just just awkward it's so awkward it's like a plane but like before episode six i was like whatever ogre man i was like just dumb dumb dumb villain but then the second his horn gets broken it's just it's a small character trait it's a really small thing but just seeing him get angry and upset about that made me like like him as like a villain so yeah yeah like it's not interesting yes it's just a little bit of depth yeah and just horn horn horn horn is probably on his episode 6 is where we introduced to the time flow yes oh my god i can't believe

6:10 i forgot that and i think them introducing like the interstellar this little maneuver is going to cost us 51 years or whatever i like that because one of my issues when we discussed this last time was how fast i thought like the pace was and how and it was just going and going and going they had 72 hours but now you know that there's like some time so there's like a breathing room and i prefer that way way more so in the original series this time skips a big twist for when they leave the digital world uh and because of that there is kind of more of a um i want to say like uh what is the word i'm looking for oh my god there's more of a push for them to try yeah to try to figure out how to get out of the digital world uh

6:56 and i do feel like introducing that element kind of removes the dire situation yeah because they're like we have all the time in the world like well not all the time in the world but like they have yeah but moves like this they can rest you know like if one of them is hurt yeah they can take a day to sit around and let them recover that says that doesn't mean we can take our time yes but they also but i think it's kosher who says it that the deeper that you go into the digital world like the more the time flow has changed i so from my knowledge of the lore they are kind of there might be like a deeper like server level stage of the digital world but the different stages that we know of

7:41 are just the original like tron looking world from the first couple of episodes and then where they are now like i don't i can't imagine that they would spend much more time in a deeper layer because i'm not even sure what the deeper layer is yeah i was just wondering about that because to me if they did that like oh we need to buy ourselves more time let's dive into a deeper layer of like the digital world and buy ourselves some time to recover or something like that that'd be interesting i would be interested to see that i think they could that the idea of them using that in a clever way yeah would make it worth them establishing it earlier on as opposed to saving it for a twist plus i i feel like as a reboot twists don't carry weight no yeah because people will know like

8:26 returning fans will know yeah yeah um so yes but no so episode seven uh described by anime streaming website as the children now know that the holy digimon is the key to saving tokyo from the blackouts they attempt to cross the sea to get to the continent which they're uh instructed to go to in episode five but they're suddenly attacked by a mysterious whirlpool fortunately they meet a new friend joe whose aquatic digimon partner gomamon may be able to help them cross the sea so what do we think of joe we like joe no um i didn't at first but are you watching episode seven i do okay all right yes just uh just clarification

9:12 for the audience we the thunder we try to watch these episodes as they're coming out and then before we record we take notes by watching the episodes again and just kind of minimally talking over them uh so just so you know our watching process we've all seen these episodes more than once so why don't you like joe let's talk about this i'm disappointed to hear that i think he's a little [ __ ] you i i love you so much but the words you are saying right now are freaking listen when he's first introduced he's very dismissive of gokumon or goman he's like forget that you brought these people but they're not adults so i don't care i'm just going to keep studying and then you only start to care when he gets hurt i feel like though seeing gomamon get hurt is a

9:57 perfectly good like character motivator like arc motivator but i will defend joe from arizona whoa her vicious attacks her vicious attacks they're valid they are they are but if you think about it this is the thing that we have to remember these characters are in fourth to sixth grade they're gonna have frustrating coping mechanisms a sixth grader's like where are the grown-ups were the adults yeah yeah like like i can't handle this he went from i don't want to be a part of this stuff i'm your senpai yeah yeah you all follow me yeah excuse me sir you were hiding in a shack because you didn't want to contribute to the group and now you want to be the leader whoa whoa whoa he was hiding in a shack to study for his exams like a responsible sixth grader like

10:44 yeah responsible sixth grader well i mean i can understand where he's like oh i i need to be the leader because i'm like because i'm like the oldest because he's like [Music] it's like a pride thing probably to get bossed around by like a fourth grader or whatever uh i kind of wish we got some more traditional looking evolution scenes in the fights agumon's is cool but aside from their debut i don't think we really get like full evolution cinematics something that somebody commented on the last video was talking about how there's been a lot of production changes just because of uh the situation of the world right now so my speculative take on the evolution sequences not being complete is they have to make cuts to their productions in order to get these episodes out in a

11:29 different production manner and so if you're cutting anything out of the episode to me the evolution sequence development which is our very complicated well executed animation sequences those are probably the best things to cut from your budget and you know toe animation does have a history of fixing animations later on in blu-ray releases so i am going to throw you know a little gamble down on the table and say to the world that i think we will see those animation sequences in later releases of the series uh and i think they were just cutting them in order to save a time on their newly restricted production schedule it's understandable given the circumstances currently and i'm sure we'll see more

12:17 what do y'all think of a kakuman that's the evolution yeah i was going to say i love i want to talk about gomamon because i think he's cute i love the way he says it's so cute that's such a great attack i like the edgy fish with the scarf with the scarf attack yourself on the edge as a kid i think gomamon and gomamon's entire evolutionary line was my favorite like uh but then i remember other ones that i considered to be my favorite i i think i just you just like them like digimon yeah wow what a concept it's strange they're all likeable there are some people out here who like have a conspiracy theory that i hate digimon i'm not exhausted yeah right like look at my office with my million and 10 digimon things

13:04 digimon ink permanently on my body and me wishing i got my digimon tattoo in a different place so i could have expanded upon it and make it bigger you're right i hate digimon big lightning outside yeah what a wonderful segue to talk about our favorite edgy boy yamato who is the featured character in episode 8. which described by our favorite anime streaming website the children finally succeeded crossing the sea with ikakumon's help however what awaits them on the other side is a fortress full of digimon oh the children attempt an attack on the fortress with the help of yamato who has reunited with taichi do you know what i would title this episode what spooky foggy danger compound of death that's good that's good interesting i'd

13:49 read that i agree i'd read that manga so i just want to say outright this was the episode that made me say okay i trust what you guys are doing yeah i think this is the best episode so far it's just phenomenal of course because berger mon finally gets a good mirror here we always have a round of applause for bergeron and then they kind of [ __ ] it because after that there was a bad meteor wing yeah exactly like in that episode towards the end it was just like you just had to go in the big fight in the big fight the the climax of the episode exactly they literally took the same one from the first time you saw it and how underwhelming it was and they said here's the big fight in the best episode yet awful i'm so mad uh that yamato has

14:37 chronic older brother syndrome absolutely or he feels like he needs to protect everybody like everyone is now his younger sibling god he has he's like don't worry guys i'll go sacrifice myself while you guys sit behind and stay safe he has what uh joe wants to have yeah like what he thinks he has yes but he doesn't follow through on it yeah so actually follow us through i agreed i uh so something i was really worried about is that um so digimon this is the first digit based on the first digimon series ever has had a yamato type character in every single show just like the the loner boy who like has an edgy character arc where he learns to like be with people and be with friends and the power of teamwork blah blah blah and i was so worried that's that what

15:22 they were gonna do with him and they do but the ark is over one episode yeah and so it is so tolerable because yes like it is unlikable and yeah it makes him likeable like and multi-dimensional as opposed to i'm just an edgy boy i don't want to work with anybody yeah holy [ __ ] that like lead up to him jumping up on that tower where everyone's like i got your back don't worry i got your back we'll get you forward we'll get you forward and like remembering how everyone was scared in the cave but then seeing them out on the beach like trying to support him so that he can get into the compound so that they can all like get in yeah it was great maybe teamwork isn't so bad him going him apologizing

16:08 for calling the team members dead weight in the same episode yeah he calls them dead weight so refreshing like this is moving fast but like it's worth it for times like that yeah not even that but like when he's like running out like we we know like what he's thinking like why did he call them dead weight it's because he doesn't want them to be in danger and it's alluded to like they establish the motivation yes so when he's like when they're talking together as they're leaving he's like oh yeah i know what you're trying exactly and he's just like oh come on let's go like he didn't want to talk about it because yeah he knows that gabumon's right yeah that's what he's genuinely thinking so to say that he's

16:54 an edge lord is wrong extremely disingenuous to the character developments that they're giving him in both this and in episode two they like make sure to pull you aside for a second to have a little chat about him and they're like he doesn't think he's the most capable he just doesn't like seeing people get hurt they do it twice two times and you're still saying he's an edge lord they held your hand are you happy to see guru man's baby form yes so much oh my god isn't he a sweet boy what a little resvious feel i know all the all the pokemons feel like the pokemon but it seems like so round yeah oh my god the shot where it's like it's flashing back to episodes one two and three and like you're seeing the walls oh my god and it just fades into

17:41 government it's so sweet this is this is an excellent episode and i am i do not think that i am far off from saying that even in the original series this is maybe one of my favorite episodes of digimon it's great like period like it was just all around so good teamwork happened we got to see everything come together you get to see everyone's personality yeah and everyone has a little fighting moment yeah where they all like evolve and do something uh i really like the fight like the little quick fight between uh guerrilla mon i'm so sorry if that's wrong uh the spotlights matt and or yamado and guru maharaja

18:28 gets up bites the guy like next shot yamado throws his cape at the spotlight it just helps like bring the kids into the fight makes the fights like that much more entertaining he's helping berdrum on because berman was being blinded by that light yeah yeah it just it all comes together they kept they kept track of what was going on really well in that episode and i feel like having like a linear line like to where the villain is really helped keep that kind of visual language to help yeah the colonel kaiju says i really enjoyed it every moment uh every member of the digidestined which is the english name for the chosen children uh taking part in the raid had a moment to shine and matt had some very believable development by the end i'm very interested to see where things go from here yeah i said

19:14 yeah just comment thumbs up yeah i like it one episode [Music] all right episode nine the six children and the digimon neutralize the fortress thanks to excellent teamwork they tried to decode the enemy's communication law and obtain new information about the holy digimon however it's not long before new enemies approach the fortress one after the other so first of all before we dive into the episode can we talk about like their little digimon of the week segment so cute i love that yeah i love that so much it's a good like little intro yeah and i feel like it changes it up in terms of branding too like a really good way to remember like it's like who's that pokemon exactly like i didn't even realize until you know you see it the second time it shows you what's who like the silhouette of who's going to be next week so it is

19:59 kind of like yeah i didn't notice that until you pointed it out yeah so it's cute it's like exciting it gets you pumped right oh i can't wait to learn more about this one it is very cute so in the original series ogerman's around a lot longer before uh something happens to ogremon he's annoying uh you think he's annoying well i mean for i mean i would be annoyed if that stayed around for a lot longer and so i think that i'm not when ogerman like sacrifices himself that [ __ ] wow yeah that took me for i that took me by surprise i wasn't expecting that when i literally i looked up from taking notes and i saw him face-planted in the ground with a footprint around him i was like oh my god what just happened wow i was not expecting he went against orders like yeah he he was supposed to go there and just destroy them and he was like hold up a minute i need to have this

20:45 fight for my honor for his surprise for your horn your war can wait i need to redeem my honor right now and fight this dude i feel like it it served i wasn't like sad to lose ogremon he kind of serves a similar purpose to kid who dies in jojo part four um where it's more kind of world building and motivation for the characters than it is feeling upset that we lost that character absolutely i agree with that yeah and so i wasn't attached to him i was just kind of like okay yeah i wasn't sad to see him go but i was sad to see him that's a bummer yeah it's a bummer and i feel like it paints the world to be a lot less black and white between good guys and bad guys absolutely yeah and i like that a lot

21:31 too um yeah because even though he was a bad guy he was like this isn't right this isn't what i wanted to do i wanted to do this and i love so i'm gonna help you guys out i'll tell you where to go moment that helps paint tai is more of tai chi as more of like an anime protagonist when they're like he's having fun they're enjoying yeah they're enjoying this this is weird and fun and uh he's much more of like a shonen protagonist in this series than yeah the original we'll see where it goes canadian adam also said pretty light on plot which surprised me not that's what he said i'm not surprised by his comment and i don't know if i agree with that uh one because they're moving the plot along pretty quickly yeah um it's almost too much plot and not enough down time

22:16 i want these kids to have a break soon yeah i do too i'm really hanging out i want my beach episode yeah i want them to have a breather and hang out with each other and get to know each other i think we're going to see that in episode 11. but also i'm also disagreeing with that just because the only plot heavy digimon arc is the third arc with the vampire digimon if we're in the first arc still digimon tradition tells us that the first arc is supposed to be light on plot so once again if we're comparing it to the original it's not light on plot no it's not it's too heavy on plot it's like my i have the opposite critique yeah what'd you guys think of this big boy that came in i said i said hellscape robot digimon question mark question mark it's mecca godzilla yeah it's mechagodzilla it is

23:02 i saw him for four like literally i like the like the rumbles of his footsteps coming in and i was like i'm already exhausted i'm already so tired did they do a good job making [ __ ] terrifying though i wasn't like terrified i was just like oh my god here we go you don't like anime power spikes do you no i don't it's very frustrating to me because like yes it serves its purpose it does what it needs to do be so boring without them but like i'm like oh man i'm ready to be exhausted here we go i just want them to have fun yes i do i think a good op villain can be done in anime because there's countless examples of it and it's determined that this mechagodzilla what's his name uh metal tyranimon metal tyrannomon is scary because he literally just like steps on ogremon and then he's just like

23:47 ah he's just blasting anyway i started blasting back oh yeah he's just blasting so you know that he's strong and we get the coolest mega flame that greymon's ever done it does a 360 shot around him and then it's just like think yeah that's why and again i was like the power spike so it's it's showing you like how strong this new antagonist is tired which makes me think okay how are they going to deal with it right i get that he's supposed to look like super scary and like intimidating but like the dark miasma that like all of the bad guys like have just make them look like they have a really bad breath yeah that's exactly

24:33 like every time they breathe out they're like black stuff's coming out i'm just imagining like they just they had like a really bad tuna salad sandwich they had a sundae they had the spongebob sundae with onions and ketchup and all that i think that makes big smoking bad breath that made my body hurt so episode 10 the battle between greymon and ogremon ended abruptly when the chosen children were attacked by a new foe the ultimate level digimon metal tyrannomon while the chosen ones discussed their next move tai chi and aguaman take a chance to defeat the ultimate enemy so they may continue on their quest to find that the holy digimon you know the jurassic park movie where they're being hunted by the dinosaur yeah that's what this felt like because middle tyranno just like hunting them through the forest and the kids are like hiding in a cave and i'm like this feels like jurassic park three i like at the beginning how um we learned that joe is not in

25:20 fact a good leader and so we have this little three episode character arc where joe's like i'm gonna try to be the leader and you're not next episode someone's like you're not the leader and in this one he's like should i like step up and lead and he's done she's like no and the girls were like no no please don't no they they asked him to he decided not to yeah i mean he was like please because taichi and yama were having a disagreement which i liked i liked that they have differing opinions on how to approach yes the mission yeah it feels like they're planting seeds um for other things to come so yeah i mean i feel like they're gonna be team leaders well they're going to be what team leaders yes yeah exactly and i mean people are saying they're not doing a lot of character work but i see them come on man yes huh yeah i see them i see the character work maybe you already know the characters

26:05 from whatever as somebody who has don't know these characters from adam's house cat i feel like i've been through a lot with them already we're only 10 episodes in yeah i don't know sorry that's that's probably some dumb weird southern thing are you guys upset to see i literally my first my first note on this is oh god no agamon oh god oh god and then second note is oh god i [ __ ] love aquaman so much when aguaman woke up i forgot that he even got like pummeled like i forgot that we should be worried about him i when i was watching the episode i was more thinking that he was exhausted because you know like in the episode before on in episode eight they're having the fight to get into the compound episode nine he has to fight ogerman so he's probably just drained and exhausted i wasn't really

26:51 worried about him being super hurt i was more thinking that he was just like worn out after fighting all of that watching these week to week i kind of sort of forget the like actual timeline of events and i sort of forgot that technically 789 all are like consecutive yeah yeah um so yeah that's something i sort of forgot yeah koshiro is a vlogger confirmed oh yeah confirmed that is true and i love i love that there's a little moment where you know kosher is sharing all his information or whatever and they're all like oh my god wow and tantamount's like isn't he amazing he's so cool he's like a little fight man yeah he's so sweet good so that made me happy my god that gave me points for him because i don't i didn't really care for him too much then but then when he was like isn't my partner so cool i was like oh god that's so cute

27:36 i liked it when he was showing the video like you just hear tantamount in the background like should you really be recording this right now we're in the middle of the fight that's so cute oh boy so yeah um i'm ready for controversy number two related to evolutions so at the end of the episode tai chi and greymon overcome metal tyranimon by evolving to the next stage metal greymon uh let me just say this uh to the fans out there i am one of you like but the reason so a lot of people are upset about it my note is yo i bet people are mad about this the reason why people are upset about this is because in digimon lore the first five stages were introduced

28:22 first and then the sixth stage which we haven't seen yet except for the first episode was introduced later and so in the original series the final digimon everyone gets besides yamato and tai chi are their ultimate stages that we are now seeing now yeah and so a lot of people are upset because in the original digimon getting their ultimate level stages served as a punctuation for their character development and it was this really satisfying thing that happened because it's like the characters have grown so much like they've earned this however this series has already showed that the punctuation mark is not going to be these stages because they show you all of their final six mega level stages yeah meaning that this is not the punctuation for the character

29:08 arc the final one is going to be because it is only the ultimate stage in the original that serves as a visual metaphor for their development oh okay yeah cause all the other digimon evolved just to protect the kids right and it's only this stage and in the later sequel series they all get their mega level digimon because like a prophecy becomes unfulfilled and they just unlock it automatically and so i would i think they should repurpose the character arcs to be for the final one to make those the one that are really valued to being something what i would have preferred writing-wise would have been that this also comes in with the with the pace comment that we were talking about earlier is that you slow it down they're hiding okay agumon is out of the battle they use

29:55 kosheros like video and they actually come up with a plan that yamado comes up with through kosheros data and they try and beat it on their own and then if you do want to do the evolution you have aguaman step up and tai chi step up and actually like go in into this like ultimate digimon form i want a better dynamic with everyone yes because why not they use this episode to slow down the pace a little bit they know where they have to go and so like why not come up with a plan try to execute on the plan and let's say the plan isn't working like a hundred percent and then we see gramon and tai chi show up and then they and then they try and get into the battle and then

30:42 if it and then even then it's not working and then because tai chi is kind of like the shonen protagonist i have to protect everybody and greymon feels the same way they unlock that potential yeah and then they evolve i would be a thousand percent more on board yeah with that evolution because like if if there was a better reasoning behind it other than worry distraction oh no we're getting our asses kicked we got to do this yeah it bothered me that they went off on their own that like they didn't have backup like literally in the past like what two episodes you finally had everyone working together like yeah they were being a distraction but they were still helping so why aren't you like doing two people send two people out to go distract while everyone else goes and like tries to

31:27 figure out a way to cross the evil murder bog like why is he by himself that was my biggest issue i have a comparative comment that i want to make all right so in the original series for most of the series they are at their uh their fourth level stage which is greymond uh and so i'm disappointed to see this stage introduced earlier on just because i think it puts them in a different class than a lot of digimon that i would like to see because now the digimon in the stage below them no longer pose a threat okay yeah i understand they've achieved a different class of that yeah and i kind of been disappointed by that but also i'm now suspecting that for a majority

32:14 of the series this is going to be their stage this is the stage they're at and because of that unlike the original series we're going to see a much larger variety of ultimate level digimon i hope so um yeah and also like i'm not worried about them rushing things just because they have so many different evolutions to introduce i mean i counted this out there's potentially nine additional digimon evolutions that will happen in this series that didn't happen in the original whoa and so i'm like yeah get along with it so like those can be meaningful big things but like i get i agree with what you're saying yeah but it's just like it's just it's disappointing it's a little different the end of this episode

33:00 was the most disappointing it doesn't fit it doesn't fit taichi's character either it doesn't because if anyone was going to like go off and distract them it would almost be yamato but yamado's already learned his lesson of trusting other people and he basically learned that through tai chi and then tai chi goes off and does something else by himself yeah but i also think tai has a different character he has a different character arc than this because he at the beginning of the episode he gets an argument with matt about planning and strategizing and throughout the fight he's only able to get a leg up because he learns to strategize during the fight and it happens in the fight because he's at first just getting his ass kicked and then out he learns a little bit from that and he says okay what did koshiro say koshiro said that if we do this like we could potentially get a leg up

33:46 in battle and then it's through that we see like little stages of him learning while fighting which i i i think you could do that at the beginning like the disagreement and then and then if you go with the idea that i had like they do like a group thing but taichi's out of the fight because aguiman's also injured and then when let's say like tai chi and agamon show up and let's say taiji and nagamon don't follow the plan initially oh that would have been a much more like interesting way yes it would have been a thousand percent more interesting i just don't like the i don't like that it was a solo battle yeah i don't like that he went i find his team we want to see these team members lean on oh absolutely a little bit more i'm waiting for that i'm that's what i'm like itching for yeah um and i'm excited because at the

34:33 end of episode they split off into groups so i'm excited to see more personal time with these characters hopefully um so to see them interact with each other like individually as opposed to as a group in a way um because i think i it's just going to be interesting to see yamado interact with people without tai chi and it's going to be interesting to see tai chi interact with somebody else who isn't just koshiro and sora yeah and i'm excited for that because character work yep um but i do want to talk about the action sequence um this one's from hexed with a luck appreciate that metal gramon is actually using its teeth to bite and incapacitate and i am adoring seeing the actual body plans and physicality of the digimon being incorporated into a fight as

35:19 opposed to just projectiles yes like oh my god i love it so much oh it's just very good and also that new song yeah i did this song yeah it's gucci it is very gucci um so yes i do wish that metal grey mon was uh introduced with a little bit more stakes established with metal tyranimon but also at this point in the series i'm just like if this is where you're going get there because i want to see where else what else you guys can do besides just bad digimon evolution and i'm interested in to see the variety of ultimate level digimon that they're using because i feel like this series thus far has done a good job of

36:05 filling in the gen 1 champion level digimon that we didn't see in the original series and now that they've done that let's do the rest with the rest of the levels and all that and show me more variety i guess i mean i want to see pixie mon that means something to the audience oh yeah i have no idea i'll show you what pixie mom looks like i don't know i want to be surprised uh we might not commit i've seen it in the video game yes you have also uh i know that some of you are disappointed that thing didn't happen with uh um when the two greymon fought each other in the original series and that thing happened uh that doesn't have to happen in the same order it happened i am holding my breath that that's still going to happen uh they have no idea what i'm talking about like look at these confused faces around the table um a big scary thing will probably still

36:51 come i'm excited that they're getting to the ultimates earlier exclusively because tai chi and matt or tai chi and yamado hit their six levels their mega digimon so quickly after getting their fifth level that we don't get to see a lot of metal greymon and gururuman's evolution and so now i'm hoping we'll get to see a whole lot more metal gray mom because metal gramon is probably my favorite digimon of all time uh second place is angel woman so you like the fact that there's the potential that we get to like stew with yes with the ultimate levels like that's why like hell yeah um so all in all i think what we've learned today is horn is pride horn is pride um and so while i do wish they took some more time to build threats i think hornet's pride

37:37 definitely makes up for all the complaints that's true yeah yeah agreed no i agreed agreed i really like argument baby flame yeah oh my god what if we called this the baby flame podcast oh i would be over the moon our digimon our digimon rewitch pot oh whoa our digimon rewatch podcast has now been renamed re-watch we're watching this for the first time i don't know man or did you model digimon i'm going to sleep right now good night everybody so our digimon podcast has now been renamed the baby flame podcast yes um uh tune in next week for more metal greymon uh also metal grandma's on my favorite digimon and i'm really happy to see him even though his evolution sequence was a

38:23 little uh all right so thank you so much for watching this if you watched the last one you know that this is sort of us testing out our new podcasting setup uh we're working on a larger scale podcast that is going to go beyond just digimon kind of looking at books and movies like nostalgic books and movies that i feel like works better in a podcast scenario more than my videos uh we're working on it right now the first thing we're going to cover is going to be spy kids we initially wanted to do a percy jackson book club but we decided that before we tackle a project that's going to require a lot of visual aids that we want to do something a little easier so we're going to be watching spy kids so if you have any thoughts on the spy kids first movie please only the first movie we're only talking about the first one for an episode so if you have comments about that down below what thumbs thumbs up songs who is it madman

39:11 so comment down below about that and also if you're watching along with us for digimon feel free to comment about episodes 11 through 11 12 13 14 15 episodes 11 through 15 down below because we'll be talking about that in the next episode uh i've been billy i've been nico i've been lexi i've been arizona and uh thank you so much for sitting with us we appreciate this yeehaw um uh hornet's pride hornet's pride
