0:46 indubitably yeah what was your experience with digimon just for catching people up well this is my first time watching a digimon series ever yeah my entire life and just like i don't know if like two sentence review what do you think of the series so far not including the episodes we just watched non-coming episodes just as holistically it's a lot of fun and i am enjoying the ride that these characters are going on and i appreciate the characters yeah yeah yeah i'm interested to know who they are and what how they interact with not only the other kids but also their partner digimon like as we get to know them more i like those relationships yeah and i watched it as a kid so i wouldn't say i'm a new fan i've had an appreciation for digimon for a while i just didn't keep up on the new shows

1:32 until this one yeah i'm watching it with you as you reviewed all of them every single one every single one let's do it again i'm kind of itching to review them a second time and so anyways i've watched digimon my whole life uh i would argue that digimon springboarded a lot of my audience on youtube and kind of got me a larger audience so did you mind something very important to me i think it's really good and so far i thought this series has been a lot of fun i'm hoping to see it evolve into something a little bit more reminiscent of the original series kind of deeper look into the emotions of a kid i guess would be the right way to describe that uh but so far the series

2:17 has been really fun and it's just been a blast watching it with people who have never seen it before so let's just let's just dive into the episode discussion absolutely all right so episode 11 the wolf standing atop of the desert the digi squad splits up i couldn't read it the digimon's the digi squad oh my god the digi squad splits up again into two teams in order to find the holy digimon as yamado's team attempts to cross the desert they encounter some big bad digimon and some little good digimon who need protection but yamato says nah overall i thought this was a pretty okay episode yeah it was pretty standard it was like a very average episode yeah personally

3:04 i'd say it had some moments that i really appreciated later in the episode but i think overarching uh just i'm i'm kind of getting a little demystified with the whole just big bad digimon we got to beat it yes stories yes yeah i will say it's it was scary though i think this is the first time we see like a digimon literally like at the end of its life and then it just like explodes evaporates yeah that was spooky especially when um the the little one that has the the one that's like a little chinchilla yeah yeah it's uh cairo mullet kyramon is it k-r-a-k-y-a-r-o-m-o-n the little baby one picture when it's running away and then it like gets in front of its claw

3:50 like the big ones claws again and then it like this little tiny baby animal watches the bigger digimon get decapitated yes i was like that's like that was a little intense they freaked me out a little bit no it's cool i do appreciate it a lot and this is one of the first uh episodes where they're really kind of expanding far past the first generation of digimon okay i don't think scorpiomon was in the original like set of digimon and a lot of the little tidge man they meet are actually very prominent in like later series and other media so it was interesting to see that in different varieties again some more this desert scene gave me uh like big beetlejuice vibes with like the snakes and also the there's a there's another yeah tremors

4:35 like the giant worms like that's what it felt like because it's like oh [ __ ] if you move he's gonna sense where you are and then he's going to come and it's like the um the mulduga from breath of the wild i uh i do appreciate the groups they split up in like the kind of like which characters are within yeah the dynamic because i think i think yamado and joe just that's a great pairing it's a great pairing they're such good foils to each other absolutely yeah um and i really appreciated how we do start seeing the kids wanting to do things differently than each other in this one a lot and then actually going off and trying the different thing instead of you know all sticking together um but then of course we learned it was all part of yamado's plan yeah he planned it from the beginning at

5:21 least that's what we're told i liked how disappointed gabuman was when yamada said he wasn't gonna help niman uh who i appreciate very much with his pants can we appreciate the little bear did you have an iron man yes and he's wearing a hat that just says bears yeah yeah i want it i want to have just his bears i like him so much he's a little punk but he has a head so good dude we got like big lore like build like world building oh yeah off that scene yes because they're talking about going to see like the general of the resistance like leomon like i don't know i don't know who leomond is i don't know who these characters are but like just to understand that there's like an

6:07 understanding that there's like an army of resistance digimon government yeah that's being like made to like counteract these like uh like these dark digimon like with the miasma and all that it's it's super interesting like i want to explore that part of the world which i appreciate because it makes me want to know more so yeah i really like the whole matt and joe like dynamic that like we're gonna start seeing more often like especially like towards the end where he's like you know opening up a little bit like talking about his little brother and then joe's like do you want to hear my story let me tell you my story and everyone else is just like no we've heard your story we don't have time for you to go into this again matt smiles and he's like kind of he's like that's fine i can do it also i really another general thought for the episode

6:52 uh i really appreciate how um a lot of the characters their personalities are kind of based off of like one note kind of traits that they all uphold like that sora's heart represents love and matt's friendship and i like how they're able to continue his like development and what it means to be a friend from the last time like he kind of had a similar moment because in the last in episode eight he like kind of recognizes that friendship can be people to like lean on but in this one he like starts opening up to them and telling them about himself and so it's not just like these characters are having their single episodes and then they're done growing it's like they're finding ways to continue to like extrapolate on these

7:38 uh these kind of like character themes for them and develop them a lot more it's not one step yeah it's not a one-step thing yeah so we might as well just talk about them yeah so um very much uh edgy teenager like came up with this like young man yeah i can totally see some like you know early teen like sitting in their room like i'm gonna draw this like really cool character he's gonna be like a werewolf but like really edgy he's wearing like ripped jeans and he's got like fighting like the straps the skulls the jeans the piercings the piercings i lost my mind when i saw him for the first time because it's it is not what i was expecting like like the other level up ruberman is

8:33 like especially when we see him for the first time in the first episode he's like oh who's this like who's this powerful sleek strong young man wow and then he's like all right let's listen to some mcr baby like what's going on but you know i think yamado would think where guru ramon's very cool of course but it's just so different from all the other ones who like transform into like a completely different look and he's just like i'm just going to stand up on two feet how about that it's me butts and jeans but you know i like them i do it's good vibes because good vibes it's funny but it's good vibes because they're like somebody like bergeromon is a character who i'm just like i don't like that that turns into that and i also do not think i even

9:18 like bergamon like in general but where guru mohamed there is an appeal to this yeah like especially when he gives him the thumbs up oh yeah i was just like good job but it is ridiculous yeah like totally he's so lanky all right so this one's from tk spelled d-e-e-k-a-y i'm not really a fan of the fact that almost every fight goes from a one-sided loss to a one-sided win after an evolution i know this has always been the case with digimon but it really makes me feel like every fight has to be decided by a new evolution i agree with that absolutely yeah same here yeah um and i think that's probably going to start changing coming up here i hope so yeah cause it's like they're losing to scorpiomon and then we get where groom on and he's

10:05 just so much more powerful yeah yeah that it's not even like a struggle yeah i think that this issue is like more the recent episodes though because like in the in the previous episodes we had them working together and defeating the enemy and now it's like we're working together kind of sort of not really but hey now i have a new evolution so now i'm going to kick their butts and where you in you know yeah yeah i liked it more when they were working i feel like that might just be something for the evolution episodes yes i think that's cool i think so too um because this show's been not from us this is not a storytelling critique this is just a i'm noticing this this show has been very good at like marketing and selling how cool the digimon are i feel like yeah and making you remember

10:51 like all of the different characters um and i i feel like a lot like that's what they're trying to do here they're just trying to show you how cool these characters are and that even kind of goes back to the first episode where they showed off like the big digimon that's like their most powerful thing they ever unless this series does something different the most powerful thing they can turn into is just to be like this is like cool you know um and that's that doesn't make it good that doesn't make it better i think that's just what they're going for though this one's from the colonel kaiju i'm a huge sucker for martial arts and c q c fighters so where guru man is actually my favorite of the goblin online and he didn't disappoint on that front at all excited to see more of him down the line

11:36 yeah i thought it was cool when he when he like went into like a boxing mode and then like kind of like slipped got into the pocket and like started like actually like going down with like kickboxing and stuff i i thought it was cool it kind of reminded me a little bit of like my appreciation for like the pokemon like kind of punches and things along those lines so it kind of gave me the same vibe yeah i think it's going off of what we talked about a little bit last time of the digimon actually using their physical actions yes to fight instead of using projectiles like with with pokemon obviously he's got punching gloves but like it's it's cool to see that they're like oh he's got some muscles in there yeah you can just go brute force their physicality becomes much more it's something you notice a lot more because of the way they do the fights and all that i did really appreciate the fight a lot more because i noticed that even though there wasn't any like

12:22 big spectacular shots like with some of the other larger digimon uh the editing was just really tight and so like you would see a close-up of guru man's eye then a close-up of scorpiomon's like claw and then that would like be the next thing he does he goes for the claw and it's just like it was really tight and uh pretty well done and yeah it was a it was an okay episode it was pretty yeah i would say like the fight choreography in general is pretty strong like even even if sometimes i'm like the animations like a little lackluster in certain areas like that we've talked about before i do think the way that they structure the fight is really smart yeah it's a it's a problem of shots not fight choreography yeah exactly yeah meteor wing episode 12 lilly mon blooms taichi's team reaches

13:08 an ancient ruin where koshiro tries to analyze the characters on the wall mimi and palmont accidentally fall underground when they're in danger they encounter a kind-hearted digimon but also a not so kind-hearted terminator kind of digimon andromon angelomon so like overall this might be excellent best episode excellent series it is fight me yeah it's the best yeah episode 8 was my favorite before this but episode 12 has properly blown me away obviously my favorite like did you honest palm on mimi's my favorite character as well yeah i think so far so like obviously i'm incredibly biased on this but this is the best episode that they've done i think so i love palmon's voice i've

13:54 said it before but i don't want to say it again incredible voices so good so cute so good her little like screams like it's such a little kid thing and it like you're just like i want to protect you i want to like it hurts you it hurts hearing it so sweet i think overall this kind of solidified something that i was kind of thinking already i was like a fan of the original series uh is that i think the original series has kind of averaged like so far at least had averaged out to be a lot better but i think this series like highs hit higher than the original series okay yeah cause i mean episode 8 and episode 12 like i was like wow like these are like actually like

14:40 really really good and so like you know mimi finds the guardramon and it like protecting her from the andromon and it not having any dialogue and just yeah based off of those eyes and the steam yeah like there was just so much like i don't mean to sound pretentious but there was a lot of like filmic qualities yeah this episode i would agree that like made it a lot more interesting and engaging the music when german first starts moving i was we were grooving i saw him like it's so good it was so good oh it's so good like the setting itself though like it being an ancient weapon factory and then like sound bergemon coming in and activating like just a weapon essentially and just like hey take out these like

15:26 digimon kids like that is scary yeah and and part of me like when palm on realized that it was basically a graveyard a graveyard like digimon parts that's like super morbid yeah it's really like it's scary it's horrifying like i i've said it before but like digimon can genuinely be like morbid and scary yeah yeah they don't they don't hack around yeah no they they do not matter they don't pull their punches exactly yeah which i appreciate i i like that me too that's always why i've like enjoyed it is because it's always been that way where it's like hey like shut the [ __ ] up and let us get real for a second i'm like yes absolutely right away the scene was great though like palm palmon's like afraid because just picked up like the remnants of something's face

16:11 yeah what was their face and mimi's like all you poor things and like just rubs the dust off of like some random like corpse she thinks you know like her kindness yeah like even to those who like can't perceive it in her eyes just a smart like set design thing like when they go to like this little flooded area and like you see the reflections and like yeah mimi says something nice to guardraman and then his eyes get all big and like the steam comes out also the what's his name is it andrew one is that yeah who's one of my favorite he looks eerily similar to the bad guy like the the like batwing dude

16:58 okay and so like as soon as i saw him i was like oh my god this is like similar to them like fighting like the big bad like because there's only three of them there they're alone and they have to face off this like super strong opponent andrew mon has a similar uh kind of role in his first episode in the original series where he's just kind of like hunting the kids uh but in this one they make him so creepy and he and i'm realizing he's not just a cool design he's actually like a scary creepy design yeah i've never noticed that before he's creepy like like creepy muscle sinew like very exposed and then that like like the the difference in his feet how one's like a weird exposed like dragon claw thing and yeah it's just like a cool like scary

17:43 design i i honestly think you could make a horror game and base the scary characters on digimon characters i think so yeah at this point i'm like convinced and i also believe that this episode worked so much better than many of the other like ultimate evolution episodes we've seen is because the bad digimon's roles and all of those episodes have been andromon's role like they're just hunting the kids kind of mindlessly and that works so much better as like a robot thing oh yeah cause it's very robotic and so it works here better than the other ones because i don't want to see robotic characters for all the other villains right like versus in this one circumstance it works because it's a literal robot and then at the end of the episode like

18:30 when the sound bergeron thing wears off and he realizes what he's done yeah like kind of he seems like he's upset yeah it's like and then he's like grown in the leaves i hope he returns i really do i hope he's not dead uh i hope we get some more andrum on i i i would i would appreciate it i don't know because overall like the reason why i i thoroughly love this episode is because i feel like the past two episodes we also got ultimate digimon but in this one this one feels so earned yeah where andermond defeats guardramon who was protecting mimi and mimi's just the one the one sentence i will not forgive you yeah and the pain that she felt to like

19:16 to uh like evolve from pokemon into lilymon it just it worked for me everything about it i bought into it it made me think of tie in aguaman's episode because i feel like if they reminded you in the episode that the reason why they were being so persistent was because they were like upset about ogremon it would have worked a lot better yeah because when i watched it for the first time i almost forgot that they would have been upset about that yeah like uh and then that oh my god when they don't use the standard ultimate evolution music and they use the more somber yeah music when she of when uh when pokemon evolves into lilymon it's just so sweet and kind and clever

20:03 when his targeting system is like yeah all screwed up by the pedals and all that yeah and it's not the same as like oh we reached this level so now we're gonna go balls to the wall like crazy fighting it's just like calm down yeah good night oh and the little kick yes that's it that's for hurting mimi you [ __ ] yeah exactly oh we the metal evolution seek medal of grandma on evolution sequence yes oh yeah it was very good that's not the first time we've seen it that is it is the full one but full scene oh whoops wow yeah yeah [Applause] it's pretty cool trump is pretty cool yeah uh so i'm gonna mention the chomp later because people were speculating that the chomp

20:48 was uh directing the series towards a plot point that happens in the original series where uh agumon gets angry and becomes a bad digimon and so uh people were thinking that maybe that was hinting at that uh but then we see it in another evolution sequence where it happens to so i'm that's probably not the case it's they're paying like homage to like the parts yeah yeah i think machine german who's the digimon who appears in the evolution sequence and metal greymon share an arm yeah and so because he's the more powerful one i guess i don't know who knows but it's a cool visual moment because all that matters yeah the contempt and and or

21:33 potential rage that mimi would feel towards siri siri like the rage that um mimi would feel towards like sound bergemon or like yeah or just this entire collective would be immense and so like i'm really waiting for the time when mimi is like face to face with like a prominent bad guy yeah the way i saw that was that they were trying to present her emotions as like something that brings her strength and so when lilyman says your sorrow and anger created me it's saying that like you felt these emotions you allowed yourself to feel those emotions and that gave me power and that i evolved because of that i love that and then in the moment

22:19 where she's sitting down crying and palmon asks mimi if she's okay and she says she gets up says yes and smiles i thought that was more of a moment of showing that despite the fact that she's so angry and sorrowful she's going to keep her composure and keep moving forward because she's strong enough to like have a goal in mind even though she's really upset because she wants to help protect like other digimon exactly i really appreciated the fact that her like that lily woman's like super attack basically is like not something that is destructive only in nature because she's like a very kind-hearted person and so to have this like ultimate attack like yes destroy your enemy but also

23:05 bring forth new life it's golden experience it's very like very nice it like goes really well with her character where she's like you know like super nurturing super caring like wants to protect the weak it's like no you've created something beautiful out of this like creepy graveyard where like other digimon were massacred dude i could talk about this episode for a really long time and whatever guardraman's number was like remember he was like yeah yeah i think we should rename the podcast to the guardramon number whatever podcast so episode two is the hornet's pride podcast episode wait no episode three is the baby point podcast so it's everything afterwards yeah then episode 4 is now going to be the guardraman number

24:38 but i do think they're doing a pretty okay job of um having the characters be balanced a little bit earlier on and then growing them from there um yamado is a good example of that and i think mimi is a good example of that too but yeah part of me does miss the original bratty mimi and seeing that growth too as a as a new viewer to digimon and i'm sure lexi can like attest to this having me be like slightly bratty but still sincere is like the perfect like balance for me yeah because i don't want to be unlikable exactly like i don't wanna every time she's on screen be like i know exactly what's gonna happen i know how she's gonna react to the situation i'm i'm happy to know that there's a bit of variety like she could go one way or

25:24 she could go this way and especially with like kalman being like hey maybe let's do like take the better route here i think mimi's interesting yeah exactly i feel like she's really interesting and she'd be more interesting this in like this way than she would be if she was just like straight up bratty but then again that's me not having the experience of like an original thing i i do want you guys to watch the original so she's also like been there like maybe a little longer than the other kids like she was with poundland for a like a while so i feel like palmon would have rubbed off on her like to the point yeah yeah yeah because we we've been seeing like all the digimon like kind of like interacting with like their people and being like hey like maybe maybe you should be a little more honest about yourself like maybe let's not do that because it's kind of outside of your range

26:10 so i feel like their relationship is pretty solidified by now like we know that she like absolutely loves palm on like would die for palm line and like obviously they have that like relationship so palma is probably like hey mimi let's not let's not be like that also there's a moment in episode 11 specifically uh where i do feel like mimi is still kind of bratty just not loud and obnoxious about it it's when uh she's walking with uh tai chi and uh and she's complaining about drawing straws to decide the groups yeah and then says but you're the one who came up with the idea yeah exactly keeping her in check yeah even do you remember when like the towel gets burned because joe's trying to like do the things she's like my towel and and then

26:55 palm one's like that's not your towel that's sora's towel what are you talking about mimi had another towel yeah did you notice that yes she had another towel that she was like dabbing like palm on with so she'd even use her own towel yeah all right uh let's talk about um what i personally think is the low point of these episodes episode 13 uh garudaman of the crimson wings yamado's team flies above an endless jungle on bertramon's log until they come across a floating fortress sora's caring heart that wants to save digimon in trouble brings about a new glow on biamon maybe like a new evolution all right so first things first episode 11 we see bergeron with the basket episode 12 bergeron's got the log which mode of transportation do we

27:42 prefer the log or the basket i'd rather have the basket because i get motion sickness and i would appreciate some more stability in my life that's fair like joe if i was riding on bergeron i would want the basket oh yeah yes for sure but aesthetically yeah for the comment to watch the lock exactly it's also funny to watch josef for a little bit first like i'm not the type to complain about like og digimon versus newer digimon but like it canon beamon is just like the worst thing i've ever i fully agree with you like it just doesn't even look like a living creature no it does not and i even wrote this down it also doesn't look like a bee it looks like a wasp it should have been a wasp

29:15 yeah like you don't see the face and head move that much but you see the little like stinger go like puke though i did appreciate the one shot of bergeron using uh what is the attack on the earlier wing and then just the flames like oh yeah it looks so pathetic compared to this like giant thing like destroying this mountain and then it's just like valley story shots it's a star destroyer from episode nine also i would just love it if like right before you saw that explosion on the mountain and you see like nimon and that whole group from episode 11 being like hey thank god we got away safely and then just like cut to the mountain destroyed [Music] when i first watched it i when i saw that mountain you destroyed i was like how many digimon just died

30:01 yeah yeah i was like how does how how many things creatures in this area are about to be affected by this huge blast from nowhere but can we the name fun beam on i mean they're pretty fun they are very fun they're very fun beam on yeah but this episode just in general was just so not good i can i can boil down like the feeling of episode 13. it felt clunky it yeah i mean it just felt clunky kind of dry it didn't it wasn't smooth it was clunky no and i don't i don't even like the character arc that sora goes through and this is the episode where i was like okay i really want to experience digimon with my friends i'm going to go out of

30:46 my way to find the original version of the original show to watch with them because the one character who they're dropping the ball on more than anyone else is sora and in the original series like she's kind of guarded and doesn't really like share her feelings a lot she's a little bit more like like yamado and like her having like love be her character trey it's like her opening up kind of thing but in this one they just kind of make her a bleeding heart where she just wants to help everybody and she she does that in episode 11 and then she just wants to do the same thing here what i'm gathering like your dislike is that it's very samey yeah from from sora where like yamado goes through like a character arc in episode 8

31:32 and then is expand upon and he goes through like another character arc that is like a similar but yes like a rung above where with sore it's like the same thing every time the only person that really grows in this episode like that changes is joe but also yamada yamado stays on birmingham like i i knew you were going to go back for them yeah i like that that's that's one thing that i will say i i liked this episode because we see yamado start to show that he's paying attention to the group like he is noticing like their individual quirks and like how they kind of do things and he was like i know that she's gonna drop us off here and like go and try to save those bees by herself because that's something that she's shown that she would do before and so i'm going to tag along and help her

32:18 because that's what being a good friend means yeah yeah i do i do like that i didn't notice that explicitly and then joe's also providing support from the ground even though like he's afraid too but he's like i gotta help out my friends yeah yeah i mean there it's not that the episode every moment of the episode was bad it's just it's not it wasn't as compelling especially following episode 12. absolutely like that's true yeah it's because it's the highest point followed by the lowest point of this batch of episodes and then just in general it's like i i don't know it also made me kind of not appreciate how the ultimate levels are kind of achieved like a fighting game like ultimate bar yes um which i don't i don't totally hate but like just for like sora is much

33:03 better as like a group character in this show because truthfully they're not anything yet like i mean the show apparently has like 60-something episodes so they could always do something with her but so far they they haven't done that yet so i'm hoping if they ever show like what their life was like back home like they do in the original we'll start to see who sora is more but so far she's just like the same she's like the she's like the girl tai but without any other qualities besides she loves the digimon but consider this both ty and sora who i would claim to be like the pillars of these groups yeah change the kids around them yeah for the better yeah they do have a purpose that's true

33:49 i think sora is helping yamado grow and helping joe grow like visibly in the episodes and tai is helping everyone else grow and change and become better versions of himself she's good within the group yeah she is good within the group and i don't i would not write her out of the show and i don't dislike her it's just when we're when we're having one-on-one time with her it's like i want something more out of it i just do there wasn't like a defining change in their heart or in their resolve that made them more interesting because she's always been the same so yeah so she should have had the ultimate form already essentially yeah in the original show they kind of give you little like glimpses of their home life earlier on okay and so i'm kind of wondering one if they're going to do that in this series

34:34 i really hope they do uh and two i'm wondering if they're kind of holding off on sora for when we're gonna start seeing that because her her like character development really has to do with her own life um but i'm not seeing that sora here at all yeah um so i'm not gonna say it's just awful but it's i want more from it and i it especially because of how high this show gets when it's really good yeah it's like this is a great character in front of you please use her you know like when you're writing it one people are keep mentioning that uh in comments there's a lot of them there's no specific one how um only ty and matt have gotten a fully realized evolution sequence so far and i want to correct the record because
