1:33 uh the guard number 2078 podcast um this is going well last time we saw them all get their ultimate digimon uh it was just episode after episode evolution for everyone uh so i was i liked them enough but i'm ready for the story to get on what about y'all i was definitely ready to move on after the last episode like from that batch it was time for them to like move along ready to leave the formulaic way that things were transpiring i think i had something but it just escaped my brain right as my turn came up well all right well let's get right into it all right episode 16. taichi's team finds a strange cave that leads to tokyo excited to be back the children attempt to get home through the subway however a creepy digimon prowls

2:20 the city and there the children learn a shocking truth so this episode is pretty cool mm-hmm i like this one a lot actually i enjoyed it i like how right off the bat mimi has her priorities right she's like oh my god a shower i'm so excited showering food and i'm like that's sure i want to be something like cheeseburger yeah i can relate i was stuck in the digital world for however long that they were i would definitely be like oh shower immediately have we seen them eat yes fruit yeah and they had the food eating little dudes they had the little yeah they've had little things from time to time okay yeah does that support like a human body digital fruit i don't know i mean there's like protein in it is there dna it's digital data

3:07 and they're real people i don't know it just seems a little questionable to me the science behind the digital protein i mean meat grows on trees in the digital world this is canon that sounds pretty sus to me dude acting a little sus all right all right so we finally got to see that creepy little digimon who showed up for 0.2 seconds in episode three um right before they went off to the digital world eisemann yeah oh my god what a name he takes over the city like i like i remember the last episode when they got to the real world i was just so curious what they were going to do but instead they're in fake tokyo right yeah which is the lead up to them learning it's fake i mean like i kind of figured because the episode

3:53 preview for the week before this kind of showed the glitches and all that so but also none of the adults who were walking by on their way to their jobs or whatever noticed that there were just random children creatures little creatures there's a million things leading up to it not being like real but it was creepy leading up to it though i mean the the burger lady that threw me for a loop the glitched out faces that i was not ready for that and i was like actually scared oh when they start laughing and they're like when they all turn to them i didn't like that horrible yeah it was a good and creepy episode which i thought was a uh a good and welcome addition yeah there's great horror elements in digital yeah and i keep saying it it's crazy it can be very creepy like the first time you see devi was like oh yeah everyone still freaks me out yeah

4:39 he's a spooky guy he's like super super spooky i hate how all of like the villains have like so many eyes like it's a good horror element but i just i hate it so much three episodes or whatever yeah too many eyes it's like an easily design choice to make them look like ominous and weird and like obviously like we were saying how like eismann reminds us of pride from like full memory outcomes in the flash yeah just like in general but i really liked eismann's design i did too because it was like weird and creepy but like just like aesthetically i'm like this is a very good like bad guy he has cool powers yeah like the ability to just like pop up a building like right in front of an attack and just be like yeah you can't touch me i kind of like

5:26 how uh this feels like the end of an arc this like whole yes three episodes because they they end up the whole problem with tokyo ends up being addressed directly and they kind of explain why yeah like it was happening uh so this is like a whole arc you mentioned in your digimon frontier video me i made that video uh i was like i didn't i didn't make one of those did you make one of those um i mean maybe okay so all of us have made digimon frontier videos but you're referring to mine specifically uh so you mentioned in your digimon frontier uh video that if it works within the narrative a lower level digimon should be able to feed a defeat a higher level one and eisemann is a great example of that and i like how they point out that he's like a level lower than them but because of his weird unique powers they're like

6:13 it felt like they had to develop a new strategy yeah it wasn't just punch it until it dies it was we have to use our brains and work together in order to punch the building first to break it down then punch it until it dies yeah i mean the the way that they go about like defeating digimon is like kind of like pretty straightforward but i do like how like beforehand with like the power levels it's like oh we evolve and we win where like like eisemann is a level lower and he's like kicking their asses yeah and and like you can also say that part of the reason might be because like uh do we find on this episode that he's like draining power no that's no i think it's the next one yeah but like like looking back you can understand that the reason why he could have been

6:59 so powerful not only was he like just good in general that he also was taking power from like the real world so it makes sense that's really cool by the way and i want to talk about that a little bit later i like the combo attack when they all work together oh yeah when they all come in like and they all do they like the la the final attack that defeated him is all of them coming together to make like one huge blast i thought that was yeah i really like it and it's the first time they've done that yeah at all teamwork like in any series no in uh in this one yeah like even even when they all had their champion levels they weren't doing that yet there wasn't like a lineup of all of them and i was kind of saying i think in the either the last one or when metal grandma was first introduced that i feel like their ultimate stages are going to be around for kind of a while yeah like if you look at a lot of the

7:45 toys they're releasing they're of the ultimate digimon and i feel like they want those to be like the poster like like them lined up is like the justice league like lined up kind of iconography i guess that they're trying to build with it uh and so i hope they stay around for a while like that because i like them uh speaking of them all coming in to help the digi x machina ruined the episode from me from forty horde yeah so i guess all them coming together out of nowhere well i liked it it made me happy i kind of liked it i liked it too just because it was a long time coming yeah i mean like having like sora and like and that team show up plus i mean was nice every single evolution in digimon's technically a deus ex machina oh for sure yeah i mean some more earned than others

8:30 of course yeah exactly and like like they were just taking different routes to the same place yeah exactly so that of course they would cross over at some point yeah exactly yeah i was like it was very easy for me to forgive that yeah i mean if you if you showed them finding like a single shot of them finding the cave earlier in the episode it would have had the same impact and you could have fixed that with literally one frame and so it's like whatever yeah exactly it's they could have explained it but they didn't to save it as a surprise yeah i just like that we're finally getting some teamwork i love it so much and they're like like it's like you know it's but i like that lineup of like superman wonder woman batman like from the cartoon yeah like that's what it felt like it just felt like them all lining up

9:16 together yeah to take down like the big foe yeah and that leads into the next episode which i like i love the next episode a lot so episode before we move on to the next episode i want to say that i particularly enjoyed this one because we finally got the return of baby flame yeah i was so excited to hear him say baby flame again he's good okay uh i like the little power boost that tai and presumably the rest are able to give their partners without having to go to the next level uh it makes them seem more useful compared to them just hanging around once they've made their partner evolve like when you see them start glowing i think the first time it happens is in episode eight uh with matt when he's going up the thing and yeah yeah it starts glowing blue i like that a lot too because it's like

10:01 you're serving a purpose you're not just like some decoration who caused them to evolve yeah the kids are making them more powerful throughout the fight as well oh my god this table's so small yeah i know it's like they're giving them like a damage buff in whatever evolution that they're in and it's just like nice because i i was actually thinking when we were watching the episodes i was like what do these kids do other than evolve them and then glow yeah for like a damage boost it's like their determination yeah it helps them out which is nice but like obviously i would love to see more because like in episode eight it was when like um yamado yeah like throws like the cape or whatever i'm gonna see a little bit more of that i still want a little bit more of that um but it's it's nice that there's like something yeah because if they were just like sitting on the sidelines like all the

10:48 time that's what it is in the original mostly okay yeah they're like do it well then this is an improvement it is an improvement all right so episode 17 just when tai chi his friends thought they had finally defeated the digimon in fake tokyo new digimon appeared the children worked together with their digimon to take down the eight-headed ultimate digimon orichiman orichi maru from naruto that's what i thought every time i was kind of disappointed that it wasn't named like hydramon because it's literally a hydra but it's been around for a long time i mean i mean yeah but that would have been a better name than a reaching i like a when we see the shot of him i'm like oh

11:34 it's probably gonna be like hydra mod or something and then i was like oh okay interesting choice that's okay i also like that all of the heads are different yeah i appreciated that yeah yeah every single difference is a different little little snakey guy yeah and then the mid heads like an actual like flesh one flesh i mean yeah i mean yeah you technically you're right yeah it was the only one without some sort of like metal on it yeah yeah and i like it yeah you know like it's a dish yeah let's sprinkle a little i very little helmet i very much enjoyed this episode yeah it was good it was very very good my one gripe will be that like okay they defeated it and then

12:19 and then it's just like oh i evolved but they explained why did it evolve instead of like get destroyed because it's siphoning the power i think that's so cool and then like i love how they're like talking about what digimon are sort of like in a more physical sense and so like as he's growing like because it takes so much energy to create him the emp is going off and it's like yeah i mean that kind of that makes sense and it just kind of brings a step into uh reality i guess you want to say it's like an extra detail that kind of makes it seem more like a it makes it more of a digital thing rather than like uh you know the computer brings you into narnia and there's all these monsters yeah the computer brings you into narnia

13:07 i really liked how the younger siblings could like like when hikari sees the reflection of urichima yeah like against the building like they can see it and then like on the tv with but why is he home alone isn't he like five um like who leaves this like toddler unsupervised in the dark there's no power in tokyo his parents are just like you'll be fine i mean maybe the house is dark and he's just sitting in front of the tv and it does not seem like there's anybody home yeah probably not i mean there's no power so it would be dark in general yeah i mean yeah but you would have like i don't know candles i feel like people would buy candles maybe a lantern you know electric yeah do we see

13:54 a lot of yamato's like parents and family yeah and yeah in the original absolutely originally have we seen his parents at all there's a whole reason why like he's overprotective of him and it has to do with like their family life and [Music] and we're not seeing it yet no um but also this show is really oddly paced compared to the last one like i would say that we're probably like in terms of where the last show was at this point we're probably like the equivalent of episode like nine or ten oh wow right now um because they don't do the ultimates so like okay uh there's there's a lot of similar plot beats going on uh it's just kind of it's weird where

14:39 they're going with it um and i have no idea it's not like a one-to-one comparison at all uh but you see a lot more of their family life earlier on but as we find out in episode 20 it looks like they are saving that for later but let's not talk about episode 20. uh i love it when where guruman needs to get away from arichimon so he grabs tai chi and yamaha yeah there are some shots where like in the beginning when we first are introduced to him he's so lanky and skinny boy but in some of the shots in these couple episodes he's big he's a big boy yeah vic oh my gosh what happened he looks like i'm proud of him he looks like an mma fighter just going to the gym yes going out to the gym oh i think the highlight for me is i got another palm on quote but

15:26 um palm one is talking about um orichimon uh and basically is like it has eight heads it's cheating yeah why is it about having him like this is cheating guys like i'm not a big fan of this despite the fact that you just went 6v1 yeah exactly we're allowed to gang up on you but you can't hang up on us it's like when you bully the bully can we can we just talk about just the fight like in general well i want to talk about before the fight because i really like it when they get all separated and they're like underground that was my favorite like slither above oh yeah it's because it's great character work and it's also really tense because it's like i feel like they you feel their exhaustion very well

16:11 yeah they're like they're tired they keep seeing it slithering and they're just like oh my god is it gonna find us yeah and then i like how they start like hyping each other up that was my favorite yeah my favorite moment of the whole thing was when they're adult it's it's one of those sweet sweet moments where they're just chilling and they're just hanging out with each other and they're like but you see mine did you mind and this value is so cool but you what about mine you see mine it was like joe was like um gomez literally grew so big because i was so inspired by him oh it made me so happy if i were to talk about that palm one's like and i'm the prettiest mimi goes only when you're lilly mom roasted literally [Laughter] what a cute woman though that was my

16:57 favorite of the whole episode also i uh i do kind of like house i'm kind of getting sora a little bit more in this episode because she talks about how she uh she mentions like what they learned on their trip being that like she's seeing other digimon like in trouble and uh i guess i'm still kind of growing getting to know this new version of sora and i i see her more as like a foil um like a good foil to yamado yeah and i appreciate how she kind of uh i guess is wanting to do stuff a little bit harder just to do like the right thing i guess and so i'm sort of starting to see that a little bit more in retrospect uh but i

17:42 still want to know more about her especially because uh cardroman once again just got the short end of the stick in this fight i feel like uh but yeah but yeah i mean a little bit i will say like in this batch of episodes obviously like sora is very much in like the back seat yeah absolutely like and like yamado and tai chi are co-driving because like it's very very like focused on on them because tai chi is you know main boy shown in protagonist and now i'm looking at the colors we picked back here and i'm just like yeah that's them yeah there they are right there and uh blue and orange yeah buddies and then like uh and then with the yamado obviously because in the episode like when they're on the

18:28 little break hiding from orichiman you know yamada tells them like look we need to like defeat this guy right now because my brother is like right next to shibuya like yeah that's a big deal to me and this is that's the first time uh yamado mentions that he has a brother too tai chi yeah yeah yeah it is and so it shows that from the previous episodes that he's like learned and that he's like way more open yeah he didn't even hesitate he was like look i have a brother i have to do this like he's more open that's why i really like it we were watching episode 20 last night because it was new last night i didn't remember yamado even telling tai chi about takaru at all and i was like how the hell does that know but i guess he did tell them and it was kind of a nice little

19:14 i mean they can melt the little brother thing for all they want yeah to tell everybody about it a nice little character moment and just at the end he becomes like general maze hughes and he's like look at my brother it's so great that's really sweet that would be really great but yeah that ending fight is this might be one of my favorite ones from the show so far it was good yeah absolutely dude the fight is so good like taichi and yamado's younger siblings tuned in and and watched it with us that's really cute like it's it's so good and dude i know you i know you love zootomon and zumamon had literally the best part of course he did when he was just like twirling the hammer to like collect that attack oh my god he comes in the anime protag he is yeah it slides

20:02 in yeah he's so good so good there's a moment where um where guruman uses kaiser nail and it does absolutely nothing and it's the those things like that make me furious where it's just like dink i'm like but he tried so hard give him give him something i'm also glad that we're grooming um they showed his little um evolution animation because i love the the howling with the movie yeah i think it's so i love it it's so cool and at the end of it like i don't think this has been in the other ones he like runs towards the camera yeah the evolution yeah like that was pretty neat i love the uh the shot of them all like intently looking and like being involved in the fight yeah oh yeah device is blowing uh it's just inten docker's just trying to play [ __ ] fruit ninja

20:49 meanwhile all this garbage is happening around him the [ __ ] feather from super mario world comes down i really like how all of the cell phones are like overheating and like turning red and everyone's like what's going on no it's this one in episode 17 17 because i said i thought the cell phone is getting too hot to hold it was like that's how that one ends and it starts with the next one but yeah that fight was like top tier anime fight and i just love i just love them like incorporating the physicality of the digimons like running up to it and it's like that never happened in the original there was never like a he's a cool like that's a boxing guy he's using his lanky little legs to run upstairs pokemon and where guru man are like the most similar in terms of their

21:34 fighting stuff which is so funny because the word is a downgrade because what where a groove one can do is what togamon does oh my god and then they defeat orichyman or dude this one's from xeno knox 0-0 all the kids getting to fight together for the first time was amazing to see it shows that they really are becoming a team instead of just individuals separating the kids and having them sit down and talk about things really help to flush them out of character yes heck yeah retweet this was a good episode all right this one's from w tropper cutaways to the real world really hammering how dire the situation is becoming and the last two kids are finally getting the spotlight i love how like it's not just them knowing that power's out in tokyo and

22:20 you actually see like the panic of like a disaster happening kind of uh because it's like a really non-violent kid-friendly way to like portray something that is very stressful like that and just like getting separated from a parent and all that like i think they're portraying the uh like the panic in the city kind of pretty what good for like yeah very very well yeah because it's like imagine because it's a kid's show so imagine like you you get like swept away by a crowd of people and you're like separated from your from your parent as like a young kid oh my god that beat i'd yeah like when your parents left you like alone like grocery shopping like they they left you in the checkout aisle and would like go get something and then you're just sitting there like nervously like waiting for them to come back and the person's just like scanning

27:47 yes yeah he's very kaiju he's very kind i mean i mean all of the all of them like eisemann original and then and then ninhaman all of them are very like kaiju-esque yeah and and i and i really loved that i love how uh before eisemann turns into a richiman he looks like the little uh little fuzzy worm guy on a string oh the worms on the string yeah yeah they're cute he looks like one before he turns into a richiman and so i i like this uh kind i liked him a lot um i thought this was just a very exposition kind of heavy episode or they're just kind of explaining things about the plot yeah i mean a little bit yeah but i think the reason why i enjoy it so much is that we finally see like the feathers like

28:32 coming to come into play yeah and then you know and just just like but this time they get to see like what's going on yeah exactly i liked that so they see like the direct impact that they're having essentially and that uh tai chi yamada agamon gabuman they are like they're spent they're they're they're done they are exhausted literally the kids are dragging like the digimon and like helping them like aim their their attacks so they're like exhausted but they're still like wanting to fight and like the feather like like like giving them like that strength to what they need and then forming and like fusing together back into omegamon yeah omegamon into omegamon it's really it's great i really really enjoy it all

29:18 like kind of like comes together yeah i i agree with that a little bit yeah it's an excellent episode there's one scene that i um wanted to point out it's when um yeah guru mohan and greymond both attack at the same time and there's like a lot of smoking oh yeah that did something that it had to and then the smoke clears and he's like you see the eyes you see this his face takes up the whole screen oh and they're like and it's ah it was so well done it was so scary yeah i'm a big fan of need need hogman it's the first time the audience sees that mega did you yeah and they oh my god the way they illustrate like the power difference yeah between them and it too it's like they're so far off from that and uh i mean to me a lot of people were talking about how they brought in omegamon as like a

30:04 like a deus ex machina like save the day kind of thing and they feel like that ruined like the episode for them but to me this felt like they were going to bring in omegamon because they're about to reintroduce the kit the little kids yeah again and they wanted to remind you of like the feathers and how there's like this power attached to it yeah and so they were like okay so for bringing in omegamon what's like a super scary cool looking digimon we can bring in for him to beat to show how awesome he is so it's like to me it's not that they brought in omegamon to deal with need hogman it's that they brought in need hogmon because they knew they had to bring in something that looked really cool and powerful because they were going to bring in omegamon to remind you of that thing at the beginning of the show yeah and the little siblings have the power to help their older siblings evolve into

30:49 something that they can't do on their own yes yeah it's like [Music] it's like ty and matt they're digimon and their little kids they're little kids their siblings are the digimon partners wow that's meta yeah it is a little meta lobe um but yeah i like i liked a lot of this episode i really did yeah i like the end of the fight when hikiri's mom and ty's mom like finally finds her again and she's like oh my god i'm so glad you're safe and the little feather floats down hikari touches it she's like big brother's okay everything's okay and right before that uh takaru touches his feather and he goes out like digital and like she was about to do that but her mom was like yeah her mom touched herself no stegoman

31:36 today no digital world for you today you have homework yeah dude i this was a very good episode hot take this is my favorite one of the bunch okay oh i really like the last time it's i like it's either 17 or 18 but for me it's it's 18 because i love we haven't seen obagamon since like episode three and then they bring it back with the feathers so like it's more like it's a roundabout way for teamwork but essentially it's teamwork with their siblings yeah and i like enjoy that i thought uh nidhogmon was like a great oh i love great great feeling oh my god them slicing him in half was just metal yeah like super so good like like all of it was like amazing even at the even like in the ending where like the

32:23 countdown stops is six seconds and then they get the horror movie beeps like as soon as it starts going again i was like oh frick i was so sick of like the timers because they just have a thing for like countdowns but like i think they they overcame it being a uh repetitive thing because it reaches zero like they they think they solved it and then it's like nope zero yeah and then like the gate opens to the real world and they they get sucked in and oh palm ones scream like nails on a chalkboard i was like oh and then finally freaking devi mon comes and he's like the human world is our
