0:46 one what was like sort of the thingies that happened there the kids got separated again and tai chi was running through the woods oh no uh and you know what i want to say those last three episodes of that last batch we watched i really enjoyed yeah and i'm happy to say that i pretty much enjoyed every single episode we're talking about today yeah yeah absolutely and so like i was hoping the show would be this where it was just kind of not really focused in the first half and getting more focused in the second half uh and i do have some opinions still but i'm very i'm i'm happier with where the show has been going i feel like it's been more fun i feel like it's been more exciting and grounded in terms of what's happening in terms of the emotional weight for all of the characters and uh yeah we're gonna hear from some of you

1:32 so what do you guys just like general like not specifics but like how we feeling right now going into this this podcast we feeling good about digimon yes i'm feeling pretty good on this batch of episodes and like with the war grey mon like episode i i enjoyed that you know yeah pretty well and it kind of kicked off right at the start for this batch so i i enjoyed it i thought it was pretty good i agree so let's just watch digimon episode 31 description tai chi and agumon finally surpassed their limit and agumon evolved into wargreymon this evolution awakens lapman's long-lost memories and tai chi learns about the new threat millennium on so you know i told you guys last time around that there was a chance that you know lapman was going to be a holy

2:17 digimon and you know the first minute this episode yeah you also complained that uh like right after the devi monarch in the original they immediately had a character come in and tell them like what they need to do and like we didn't get that yet but la man also did that yeah because i remember saying like last time i was like we just need an exposition dump like we need some story explained and that's literally what they gave to us the next episode absolutely yeah lot mon went from head empty no thought to head full with many thoughts yes yes the most yeah um and so what we learned was that millennium mon is the rock um and the the little fog the little fog that's like inside the rock at the digimon named

3:04 millennium and millennium on was a big bad digimon and the war many years ago that we heard about was fought between the angels and the millennium army yeah got his butt kicked he did get his butt kicked but they all the digimon had to sacrifice their lives to defeat him is what they said uh so they got their butts kicked too and so you know lotmon explained some things in this episode and wargreymon's huge very big wargreymon's very big yeah his skill is insane yeah and so people were mentioning this last time and wargreymon's been anywhere from like eight feet tall in the original show to like 85 yeah about 85 feet tall and this one and you know i remember early on in the show like when sora and tai chi go to like

3:50 the little temple like in the early episodes and they see the vision of all the mega digimon they're the same size and i'm like so i guess they're all gonna be like that like i thought that was like just to make the vision cooler and to make it seem more epic maybe like the amount of power and friendship that like the kids create affects the size of the digimon that's that wouldn't be the first time they do that there has been times where digimon's been i'm angry and then they beat him up and he gets less angry and he goes a little smaller exactly uh yeah that's kind of cool that's happened before so maybe that would be it and that's also just a wonderfully convenient excuse to explain their scale issues because there was that episode it was 30. i don't know why we're talking about this one again where metal gray mon is like so much bigger than the little t-rex is like they jump on his arm and it's just like yeah

4:36 but then there's the shot when he's evolving and they're all like the same size and yeah so scaling is definitely a fun thing to talk about when it comes to digimon and so and then agamon tips over yeah agamon falls and he goes he's tired and then you see little feet yeah um and so another thing i wanted them to do is what they started really doing in those last couple episodes is having a plot to the episode and being the bad guys being like an obstacle more than the plot of the episode uh and they did that this time around with all the pokemon and all the ghosts um reaper guys yeah and so we got the bakaman which i like a lot i like i prefer so in the original show there it is

5:22 so they're using they're using a lot of newer digimon and so i've never seen this evolution of bakaman it's not reap i think it's uh oh my god what is it pokemon usually has this evolution in the original show okay and so it was just cool yeah it was cool to see like a newer evolution line for that and i've never seen the other two guys who popped up besides just the little ghosts i like that guy like the yeah it looks like a po from zelda it was cool that like the crystals what like made the bakuman like get out of the forest whatever they were like haunting and floating around it just like zapped them was like hey time to go that way kind of like a cattle pride and so we know now that it's been explained to us we know the black lightning is something yeah yeah like it's not just like a disaster happening and suddenly they get big

6:08 and the bakaman want to attack them as you said like yeah it's the crystal it's the crystal like motivating them and the power the powers of darkness and the new darkness is trying to do this and so even if it's a new digimon every week it's like it feels like it's contributing to the larger story now even though it's still you know kind of the same thing that it's just framing it differently so we understand what's going on yeah they kept calling or lotmon during his expedition dump he kept saying like oh in like the ancient war is this like floppy disk era well i'm thinking this was like probably like in regards to the time difference in the digital world versus the real world so like and so hikari was probably alive when this was

6:53 happening because they said i was waiting for you for a very long time so it's within their lifespans i want to say that this has all happened damn yeah so like the iphone 3g yeah maybe this happened there's a they're taking a lot of elements from different digimon shows like the holy digimon war comes from a show called digimon frontier the digimon eating each other comes from digimon tamers uh and digimon tamers also kind of talked about the creation of the digital world from an i.t perspective and like the main one of in the second half of the show some of the main characters are adults who were like working on the computer program in the 80s and there's like [ __ ] going around so they have to try to fix it with you know their steve jobs is and their you know guys and computers

7:39 like garages starting from companies kind of vibe to it uh so it wouldn't be surprising if they did kind of talk about like the birthing of the digital world from that standpoint which i think would be interesting fair enough i mean if they're pulling from everything like from every like past show yeah they could really take anything that they want yeah it would be cool to see like when they get to the human world to find out like when people first started figuring out about the digital world and see it from that side that would be kind of neat like more of the physical lore to it as opposed to like the mystical ancient holy biblical type of [ __ ] biblical yeah they would round out more of the connection between the two because right now i'm still like when you know i don't i don't want to get ahead of myself but i don't know how much it happens in this episode but i'm still the connection between the real world the digital world i'm still like

8:25 they're i i think they're just not understanding how to like to me it feels like with all the side stories that they're hoping they can get back to the other characters yeah but then they realize they have too much to cover with tai chi's storyline yeah like and so they can't get back to it it feels like an afterthought yeah yeah and i which i think the reasoning to separate them is because you don't want to have to animate 16 characters all at once and i mean you could separate them onto their own commando mon but like keeping track of them all like i understand the desire to keep them separated i just want them together and yeah you know i want the storylines to converge and once again not to get ahead of ourselves but it looks like episode 36 is finally going to be that okay so uh i mean

9:10 because the end of episode 35 koshy rose says hey tai chi like get over here like yeah this is the main plot now we can't take care of this you've sidelined me for too long um and so what did what else did we learn we learned there was two holy digimon here so i i mean you guys already knew just because we've been talking about it yeah did the t-pose and floated away yeah lachlan did the t-pose and explained all that um we got a baby flame we got some air dropped memories we did get some airdrop memories yeah lotmon airdropped some memories over to the children and just another little small tiny world building detail i love like the the cybernetic ground underneath the forest oh yeah i grew over that yeah and it's just i want more little little details like that like oh my god the second

9:55 episode of the original digimon show they go to the beach and there's all these disconnected phone booths on the beach and it's just weird stuff like that and i just want i want more of that weirdness in it i guess let digimon be kind of weird yeah i want it and then oh i'm sorry what we're gonna say i was just i don't know now you're like you're excited yeah your excitement like took whatever i thought i had my brain just went because i got excited because i was saying speaking of just weird little guys come on domon oh okay yeah yeah come on just like this but first we gotta talk about metal phantom on oh yeah metal phantom on evolves yeah they fought him i thought so in soul leader when like maca like

10:42 powers up it's not powering up but like the scythe gets like bigger when she's gonna do like a heavier attack and i noticed that like when metal phantom on was like gonna swing at one point like the light scythe bit like grew bigger and i was like that's cool i wonder if that's like powered up a little bit yeah yeah yeah i don't know if i liked goku i don't yeah i i i was i wrote i even said i was like oh this this digimon's design is super cool and then he evolved into goku mom yeah yeah yeah it looks like an old like weird knockoff dragon ball digimon pokemon yeah like toy yeah like that would come with a dollar store yeah yeah his but his face reminds me of barry the chopper yeah yeah

11:28 yeah that was nice his level was mega yeah but he doesn't look like a mega yeah like he doesn't have like the the presence of like a knife i mean i feel like i mean it's just the presentation of gokumon that doesn't make him feel like a mega digimon it's not so much that dude he's really just like he's like i mean but once again there's been other digimon that i have thought were lame before and now in the newer show they're making them cool so i don't doubt that somebody could make gokumon cool oh somewhere yeah but this one this wasn't it um and also as much as i like the new song break the chain it kind of in its second use when it's not a big emotional cool moment it's i don't think it works like that opening like orchestral thing like just a normal episode

12:13 i feel like uh the other song works a little better um what is it called extreme fight in terms of like uh not extreme you know yeah i wish it was extremify yeah that would be so i thought it was extremified i'm like that's so much cool and i think that's so cool and then i read it was extreme fight and so i mean i liked his move though i liked his little like he does the little eye thing the animated eye thing and then he just like like you know gets him in like yeah he also has the arm just like a metal gray mind that like ejects out can wrap around and pull oh yeah he was getting pulled in yeah yeah okay i do remember that yes now i do and then he you know uses the kamehameha and goku of course and defeats gokumon with a stronger kamehameha than goku is capable of yeah yeah goku's not 85

13:01 feet tall goku's like 5'6 i'm going to bed wait so goku's my height that's pretty lame all right let's talk about the dog commando a little dog caterpillar so he's a new digimon is he really yeah i've never seen him before like a big vehicle digimon but like dog i saw i see why lopmon was so desperate to free him yeah like i was like cover me guys i gotta i gotta like rez these these people i'm about to change your life yeah yeah covered him like hold on excess to load like left for dead yeah and then just his reveal and he's

13:46 like oh dude every every noise that digimon makes is is golden yeah just makes you happier in any situation yeah and when you see him start moving and he's just like a hockey puck yeah yeah and he's just like zipping around yeah he's so cool just no it's just so good and of course at the end tai chi reveals he knows that the eighth child is in fact his sister hikari i'm so glad that like it i i thought i was gonna go the other direction where a lot mountain has been like it's your sister and you would have been like what nobody figured it out i'm so glad he did because like one brain cell at least yeah it's it's amazing thank you and i mean the original show was a twist

14:32 but you can't do that twice yeah like you just can't and it's by that point we're 31 episodes in yeah and you know by now and then in the original show they don't introduce her probably five or six episodes until she's like into the show and so she just she just stayed behind at camp because she was sick that's like her whole story yeah the only people who don't didn't have a digimon up until like recently were takaru and hikari so like obviously they're going to be the ones with the holy digimon if you know no other digimon has recognized their digimon as the holy digit yeah like we haven't even seen another child yeah yeah and it's it's a big mystery in the original but i'm appreciative that they don't like pretend like they can do it again because i mean even if kids don't grow up watching digimon i feel like at this point like especially

15:18 as like a merchandising piece people have seen the characters together yeah you know um even if they're not totally familiar with it and so i think the audience would not have been fooled by that all right so this one's from christopher spelled with an ex uh manriques uh i'm thankful about the fact that they oh my god i'm thankful about the fact that they didn't do the one new mega digimon per episode as we all expected it was a nice change but i missed the rest of the kids it's like they don't know what to do with the entire cast as a team i know it's supposed to be a thai tea centered show and yeah i mean i feel like we've all kind of agreed with that yeah at this point but yes i'm very happy they did not go to the one mega digimon per episode now eight times in a row yeah yeah like oh my goodness am i happy about that so episode 32

16:04 yeah all right episode 32. taichi's group is continuing their adventure with commando mon they reunite with takaru and padamon who are targeted by fangmon however yet another threat is creeping up on them just good episode i agree just very good episode and we've confirmed that in this universe all of the wolves shop at hot topic they got little they got little you know belts and stuff around their legs i like fang mon i've never seen that they're wearing pants cool they're like wearing shirts yeah basically it's like have you ever seen that meme and it's like how would a dog wear pants oh yeah and it's like would they wear it like the back half of their body or like the whole underside of their body but yeah they're basically just got strapped in like sleeves yeah but i like his

16:50 mouth like i like crocodile kind of mouth i think it's really a gator really neat you know and he was scary and i felt like you know tucker and padaman are being hunted so it's just a good selection for what kind of digimon to use and then oh my god sora coming in to rescue takaru yeah very sweet that was very sweet and she does the hand like out and he grabs them and you know i don't mind them being separated when they're in little groups like this yeah like i really like takaru sora and tai chi together yeah it's nice it is nice yeah and i wish i wish we could get more with you know like i would be cool if after this like maybe tai chi went off with like yamado joe and mimi and like if you have to have tai chi in every episode in koshiro you know and then they went

17:35 off and did other things you know but who knows we're not probably not gonna get that we have uh panama not being able to evolve yeah yeah this i wanted to talk about yeah this is the first time at least that i can remember that we see anyone struggling trying to explain and it doesn't happen yeah so i was like i didn't realize that that was a thing that could happen i thought like if it was activated it's like oh we're going there it's about to happen but they tried and it didn't work so i thought that was interesting yeah i like that a lot too and i like seeing patamon's like experience with becoming uh like like being under the miasma control or whatever and then also just a nice little easter egg and in that digimon frontier show i was telling about there is a dark version of padamon's mega form and so like when you're seeing him deteriorate he briefly turns into that

18:21 oh yeah you see the bat wings it's like a little brief easter egg probably unless they you know choose to go back to it as like a thing later in the show which i i probably say they won't do um but it's just a nice little detail i guess and then you know i just liked this one and padamon being like i can't swim but then yamados said yeah you can then i did yeah i mean i know i didn't summarize that in the exam no but it's the we get the point yeah mimia staging boxing matches yeah her own entertainment it was hilarious and then blossom on is that what it's like yeah blossom on like making sure that joe and go online like can't leave and so i was telling you guys like we were watching it that i was wondering if

19:07 the writers put that in like that way because in the rain forest like in bromeliads there will be little pockets of water and small creatures like salamanders and like tiny frogs will like go in and like swim in there and like all of their dirt and like poop or whatever is like nutrients for the plant i'm wondering if they were like oh we know plants do this so why not make a digimon plant that like wants to make sure that everyone comes and bathes in their hot springs so they can slowly eat them so you telling me that these nanimon are just [ __ ] and farting damn it would have hit harder if it was the first time magical cameras um so what do i like about this

19:52 this episode this is what we're going on so we we got all the little flashbacks to the other people you know yamado he's just he's just doing his little he's just doing his little edgy wolf boy mission you know whatever that is you know what he's doing he's getting some b-roll for the next outro of him just running in the field oh yeah yeah with like last train home from joe yeah yeah every anime ending i'm learning how to switch these cameras back and forth if it's looking really generous yeah no no dude it's really hard it's genuinely difficult okay i thought you were telling me because i was watching you do that and then i looked at you you know what i do i thought you felt judgmental here's what i'm gonna do lexi when you wanna start talking or you in arizona start talking you press this button i'm not going to think about it okay

20:38 after being chased by all these little wolves we get a big dog and they let you see a lot of them and they see a lot of him for a long time on the mountain i don't remember this at all this is cerberus okay yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you see it from long time 45 seconds i think i think he may have been ranked as a fan favorite in some poll and so it might be like uh yeah here he comes oh there he is there he is uh i could imagine that at least i thought it was going to be millennium on the way they were hyping it up and it was like sir romano was like who is yeah i feel like that's why they like did that also maybe just because the pure height of this digimon

21:26 i really like that when he's shooting his lasers kamado man is like the way that he moves like when taiji tells him to dodge is kind of like when you're playing snake and you like choose the arrow and it just goes you're going straight straight straight and you go it's like straight yeah i really like this i really just like this whole action sequence i guess of the chase yeah getting into the fight it's just an interesting way to frame the action and once again there's interesting plot stuff going on and so you know they're going to break these they're going to get hikari and uh padamon and takuru are having like some emotional troubles and then they're getting chased as well and i just really like the balance of everything and yeah i mean the action was action was good like overall and stuff but like

22:12 still there were still like good character moments like padamon is really just like i can't continue he louise is like i can't i don't think i can like keep going and then la man's like nah dude pick yourself up king like guys like you got your homies yeah you got your homies here now like yeah like keep keep going stay on the grind personal training yeah yeah i mean i feel like this the chase was also really exciting and i like that one shot of him firing the laser and like you see the destruction it causes oh yeah i mean sometimes when they're fighting the larger digimon and they repeat the shots like that it makes it seem more intense i feel like okay like here comes this thing again that you gotta dodge yeah um and then it was really funny seeing

22:57 uh is it guardramon yeah the bird garudaman garudaman yeah garjaman's the robot seeing him or them like pulling on the tail to like try to slow him down and be like oh my god he's so strong but it's just so funny just like watching him he's like holding the tail yeah doing absolutely nothing sir room on has like no reaction he's like i don't even care that you're back there i i have other stuff to deal with yeah like you're not important enough for me to turn around or how like the two heads like ejected like out to like take care of metal greymon and uh garuda i'm about to say archeron as well you grew them on and then you know that's when uh that's when panama was like all right dude oh yeah check this [ __ ] out yeah and then lotmon says form a new path

23:43 and i love this this little twisty poo yeah dude takaroo and i told you guys about this like in the last one that they're uh and then in the second series there are like armor evolutions which are special additional forms that hikari and takaru get and all the new kids get and this was this is padaman's and so it's just i wouldn't say totally out of nowhere but it's definitely unexpected yeah um like they're cool there's been other armored digimon in the show already like stegomans and armored digimon and the the blue t-rex that bites metal greymon armored digimon and then the horse is also one yeah that uh he rides so it's not like unprecedented and so a lot of people are like sending me messages like why is he there and i'm like no i mean

24:29 like yeah sure it's cool and then i also the reason why i like it a lot especially in this story is that we've already met andremon and so angemon is how we meet padman not as padamon but as angemon and so uh pegasmon seems like something that takaru and he and uh padamon formed together on their own yeah you know they earned that on their own yeah it wasn't just given to them yes exactly and then also but you can't tell me that takaroo did not vomit when he did a rodeo gal oh that's impossible my god that looks so painful oh but that that whole action sequence is so great though like when he like is dodging he's doing the barrel roll dodging all the stuff and then he stomps all the all the fang

25:15 man on the little boat oh yeah yeah dude that entire one yeah dude that entire fight was dope yeah because once again sora she's doing [ __ ] yeah they're doing [ __ ] man oh my god and that's all i asked for for that character please garudaman popped set karu berum on like a pimple dude like absolutely they did that thing that i really like that they do when like they do the attack um pegasus mine doesn't attack and like they're staring at him and he's like cracking and like the little like veins of like green are appearing and you're like oh oh did he did we beat him is he is he gonna be done and he just narrows his eyes like you thought like no i'm not done and then just stomp

26:01 himself on him that was so cool that is genuinely really cool slide that metal grey man does that get in like he's yeah it was just it was all around really good and uh so this is the first episode since we've gotten wargreymon that wargreymon didn't need to be introduced yeah because he's gonna throw that out there no you don't yeah we don't i don't need to see him every episode no you don't you know i wouldn't i wouldn't mind an episode where we don't see middle gray man you just see gray matter and i kind of like that and i like them you know like they separate tai chi garudaman sora and metal greymon like this because they're like held up by the fangmon and then we don't see that fight because we know they can win that and so by the time we next see them they're just getting done yeah we can rejoin

26:47 and they slaughter a whole platoon and you know what there's like a really there's a great shot of greymon like on commandoman when he first evolves and he's trying to block tai chi like i do yeah there's like the little like i love how they paste when they pace the fights with the evolutions so we get little stages in each one uh also here's just a here's a comment i got that i'm getting a lot of this is from lauren how will they do any zero two remake now with pegasus that's the pegasus mod that's the second season it's fiction they could just come up with the reason why takaru got it you know in two seconds you know so they can still do the second season if they wanted to i just you know it's not a real thing because it's like what digimon's not

27:33 real it's like there's this there's this john landis where he talks to his son and he's saying hey like how do you kill a vampire and his son's like stakes the sun crosses he's like no you idiot vampires are fictional you kill them any way you want to in your story and it's like that with pegasus mods like yeah there's been established rules but like so you're telling me oh here we go that i'll never meet palamon no hey right there oh yeah yeah all right um and so yeah they could they could just explain oh takaru got it because you know the mountain uh that they were near like it was just there you know and he he got the armor that's how it worked you got it and like you don't like that okay well here's the season anyways

28:20 okay here we go here this one's from mark i liked episode 32 a lot because it was the episode with the most character tk and padman got some character development which is something the show has been lacking also the evolution was a nice surprise even if it was a bit out of left field and i agree just i i like once again i like it when they balance the character stuff with the bad digimon like you can do fights in every episode but i'm still getting lore yeah it was a pleasant surprise to like have a different digimon than we were expecting we're expecting angelmon and we don't get angemon we got something new and then to us uh i also like later like going back to something new to us and how it's not angemon when they meet uh tailman like takuru mentions that palm uh padamon does not have a holy ring

29:06 and we say it's something special that we haven't met we haven't met them yet no i'm saying going forward like yeah like how it's he hasn't earned his holy digimon yet i guess and i like that and how when we've seen angemon so far it was like the remnants of his power not just full power yeah what he's gonna unlock with takaroo yeah so maybe even to unlock like anjamon that's like a whole other arc that they're gonna have to go on together i'm gonna which i'm i'm for that i would like that i'm also gonna go ahead and make a prediction that when we see anjamon again we'll also just get the the one after him too the ultimate uh just because he has three more left to get now oh yeah oh yeah that's true yeah i keep forgetting andrew monze a champion and not because a champion so

29:52 it just goes straight to ultimate yo dude how did you mess that up what like taiwan should be like the third one rookies i was called do you want to see palmon's third one this is gatomon's equivalent to aguaman the little puppy okay yeah so salomon so gatoman's the same level as greymon um okay yeah and so i think part of the reason why they do that is because it's introduced later in the original show episode 33. taichi's party catches sight of skull nightmare and hikari who was kidnapped tai chi chases after them but hekari is swallowed into the darkness and so here's where we start getting the wrap-ups of everyone's stories and so you know they like joe so he can't leave the bathtub ever yeah what what an amazing way for a character to be written out of a show

30:38 he's just in a bathtub and can't get out yeah i'm worried about him dude he's so wrinkly he's so worried he's been in there for days yeah he's like a raisin a wet raisin yeah and then meanwhile like mimi and palomano just like a boxing circuit yeah and they just they just created like an underground fighting ring and are making a lot of money now yeah yeah because they're like throwing gems and [ __ ] everywhere they were like wait what's this for oh we're celebrating cool yeah god such good characters wonderful dude weird alien cult i was gonna they look like the character i've never seen it roger yeah from american dad i've never seen the show but that's what i thought of immediately

31:23 i think there's also another like old alien movie like it's something invasion and they also look like that they're like skinny and like really weird bulbous heads are you talking about mars mars attacks yeah yeah i'm talking about mars attacks yes uh the tim burton movie is it tim burton yeah because it's like it's like a parody of all those 50s movies and they beat the heck out of those aliens yeah um so this one is they finally catch up to tehkari and and meta knight yeah you know it's time to time to beat up meta knight yeah you know and then there's the transmutation circumstances made out of the crystals like that whole sequence reminded me of the end of fullmetal's brotherhood of the giant transmutation circle yeah i think something being

32:08 like risen up and sacrificed i was like this is this is digimon yeah this is a lot i mean they've already had some dark stuff right right i mean like human sacrifice though i mean it's not often a kid's show will be like oh yeah that big monster battle that we just did they think it's a terrorist attack yeah right right and then them also going oh my god if like the boats go wrong the international relations between the united states and iran is going to be like could be hacked up you know right right i just didn't expect it i mean right we said that from the beginning i didn't expect this show to go from zero to like ten thousand now yeah they they do a little bit they they do do that they do um and then they start doing battle they sure do and so you know hickory's already been like tai chi i don't want anything to do with yeah i want this one well he like jumps up to like go rescue her before like the whole
