Intro

The Dub Talk podcast celebrates its 10th anniversary with a retrospective episode revisiting favorite moments from their first three years. Jamal introduces the cast, including Steph, Megan, and Andrew, who shares a personal story about a stuffed cow plushie. The episode will focus on "Noragami," a widely known show they previously covered in early episodes.

Noragami Retrospective

The hosts discuss their history with "Noragami," noting that they covered the first season's dub announcement and later season two, but this episode marks the first comprehensive review. Jamal explains how the episode came about, driven by an earworm of the second OP to "Noragami," and Steph explains that the retrospective series is a limited series for the year of 2025. Steph and Jamal discuss the possibility of a new season being made. Jamal then provides a synopsis of "Noragami," describing Yato as a down-on-his-luck minor god who crosses paths with Hiyori, a high school girl with a wandering soul.

Direction and Writing

The hosts discuss the ADR direction, noting Mike McFarland directed season one and Caitlyn Glass took over for season two, assisted by Afia Louvo. Script writers included Blair Rowan and Bonnie Clinky Beard. They praise Mike McFarland's initial involvement and Caitlyn Glass's capable continuation, noting her prior experience as an assistant director. The Blu-ray release was a year after the show aired. The hosts praise the directing and writing for capturing the comedic, dramatic, and emotional moments of the show. They also note that the dub is a decade old and still holds up, with career highlights for the lead actors.

Villains

The hosts discuss the major villains of "Noragami," including Rabo, Kugaha, Iha, and Nora. Rabo's arc is considered weak and filler-like. Kugaha is described as an obsessive idol fan. Iha's jealousy leads her to become a co-conspirator. Nora is described as a regalia who pimps themselves out to other owners. The voice actors for these characters are highlighted, including Mike McFarland, Phil Parsons, Michelle Rojas, and Lauren Landa.

Villain Performances

The hosts discuss the performances of the voice actors for the villains. Mike McFarland's Rabo is seen as lacking substance due to the character's limited role. Michelle Rojas's Iha is considered a greener performance but captures the character's regret. Phil Parsons's Kugaha is seen as fine but not a standout role. Lauren Landa's Nora is highly praised for her creepiness and complexity. The hosts discuss Nora's toxic relationship with Yato and her jealousy of Yukine.

Ebisu Arc

The hosts discuss the Ebisu arc, focusing on Ebisu, Izanami, and Father. Ebisu is one of the seven gods of fortune, but he is hiding a secret. He is the conjurer of phantoms. The gods summon a soliloquy to kill him. He gets reincarnated to a younger version of himself. Before Ebisu died, he had his last wish granted by Yato, which was to eat at the Olive Tavern. Father is a high school student named Koto Fujisaki. The voice actors for these characters are highlighted, including John Burgmayer, Afia Louvo, Rachel Robinson, and Cliff Chapen.

Ebisu Arc Performances

The hosts discuss the performances of the voice actors in the Ebisu arc. John Burgmayer's Ebisu is praised for his subtlety and unique perspective. Afia Louvo's young Ebisu is considered a breath of fresh air. Rachel Robinson's Izanami is noted for her terrifying portrayal. Cliff Chapen's Fujisaki is seen as a normal teenager until the end. The hosts discuss the themes of death, reincarnation, and the gods' lack of morals in the arc.

Other Gods

The hosts discuss other gods and regalias, including Kofuku and Daikoku, and Tenjin and Mayu. Kofuku is the goddess of poverty, and Daikoku is her regalia. Tenjin is the god of education, and Mayu is his regalia. The voice actors for these characters are highlighted, including Alexis Tipton, Ian Sinclair, Sean Hennigan, and Leah Clark.

Kofuku, Daikoku, Tenjin, and Mayu Performances

The hosts discuss the performances of the voice actors for Kofuku, Daikoku, Tenjin, and Mayu. They praise Alexis Tipton and Ian Sinclair's chemistry as Kofuku and Daikoku. They also praise Sean Hennigan's wise and sassy portrayal of Tenjin and Leah Clark's performance as Mayu.

Main Characters

The hosts discuss the main characters: Yato, Hiyori, and Yukine. Yato is a nameless god voiced by Jason Liebrecht. Hiyori is a high school girl voiced by Bryn Apprill. Yukine is Yato's regalia, voiced by Micah Solusod.

Main Characters Performances

The hosts discuss the performances of the main cast. Bryn Apprill's Hiyori is praised for her heart and bluntness. Micah Solusod's Yukine is seen as understandable in his motives and raw in his emotions. Jason Liebrecht's Yato is considered a career highlight, capturing the character's complexity and range.

Final Thoughts

The hosts share their final thoughts on "Noragami" and its dub. They agree that the show has aged well and the dub is strong. They praise the performances of the cast and the show's themes of communication and mental health. They also note that the show is currently unavailable for streaming and encourage listeners to find a physical copy. The hosts then plug their social media accounts, Ko-fi, and Patreon.

Hello mortal humans and welcome to the Dub Talk podcast where on any given

0:46 night we would cover the dub of the latest and greatest in anime. However, tonight is a very special one for as you see this is a retrospective episode. If you're not aware, it's Dub Talk's 10th anniversary. And for celebrating 10 years of episodes of Greatest Hits, we decided to take a step back in time to revisit some of our favorite episodes from the first hundred episodes. Right, Steph? Uh, not necessarily the first hundred episodes, but within the first three years of the podcast's existence. The first three years of the podcast existence. And for those of you that don't recognize my voice, I am the earthly vessel named as Jamal, bearing a posumous name. I cast I cast under see

1:34 my fellow castmates, the cat Steph, the the uchi katana Megan, cut my [ __ ] up. [Laughter] Oh my. And the stuffed cow plushy. Andrew, if phantoms try to take me on, they'll have to catch these hooves or face utter despair. Oh my god. Why? I I will admit the stuff cow plush came out of nowhere all of a sudden. I'm so glad that Andrew has embraced being uh gender fluid and having gutters. No. You want to know where the stuffed cow plushy comes from?

2:21 my slightly somber moment. So, for Christmas a few years ago, one of the last Christmases when my my nana was alive, my grandmother, we gave her a stuffed cow plushy for Christmas. And when she passed away, I was visiting my mom shortly after, and one of the first things I managed to grab to bring home with me was that same cow plushy. So, it's currently in her office. That cow was how me and her bonded for the first time because we kept telling Steph to go break into the neighbor's yard and go pet their cows. Yep. Bless that woman's heart. I love her. Yeah. So, for the month of May, I

3:06 decided to pick to go back and cover probably one of the most widely known shows at the time. But, uh, we had didn't really touch on it too much. If you seen the early episodes, uh, we're going to take a look at the dub of Norami as well as the second season, Norami. Aroto, I'm going to make a slight correction. So, here's the background a little bit with the Norami stuff. So Megan and I back when the podcast really early started, we covered season 1, but at the time it was just the announcement of the dub and there was no episodes to talk about. Wait, is that all it was? That's all it was. Yeah, we didn't we had even watched any of We had heard nothing. Yep. We had

3:52 maybe a trailer. That was it. I I assumed it was at least a couple episodes. I didn't realize you got a cast list and you're like, "Oh shit." Nope. It was just mostly the announcement and then um I think like a year or two later we covered season two. However um it was mostly talking about season 1. You were just shooting the breeze. Well, kind of. But it was also mixed in together with I think at the time it was Attack on Titan Junior High and the second season of Serif of the End. Oh, that's the concept. So technically this is going to be the third time we've talked about Norami, but the first time in its full entirety. I also vividly remember that episode because I believe I had just come back from a con and I had like no voice on that whole episode. Oh, the first Noram.

4:39 Oh yeah, that's right. You did it. So basically like I had somebody I had somebody asleep on a bed behind me when I recorded that. Do you remember who they were? Yeah, it was my friend Christine. Ah, okay. Yeah. Oh yeah. But you could say that when previously you discussed Norami, you used to just be a tiny insignificant little microphone, a little USB microphone, but you have since evolved into a a blessed vessel and become a fullon studio grade hyper x quadcast microphone. Legit, no. The Norami was

5:24 like maybe probably within the first 10 episodes of the of the podcast kind of existing. It was It was episode seven. Yeah. Wow. It was super early. Lucky number seven. Yep. It's not the earliest we've covered so far. So far that honor has gone to death parade. Parade. Um, so far. key word. Yeah, since this is the third time we'll cover we'll be covering the show. It's the third time's a charm, you know. Yeah, it's true. It's it's kind of an interesting story how this episode came about. So, back when uh last year we were guess having a little bit of committee trying to decide what episodes we wanted to cover. And in my heart, I

6:12 was kind of dead set originally on Hakata Totu Ramens because I was kind I was personally dissatisfied with that episode and how it turned out because the first arc we cuz I watched six episodes were out at that time and I watched all them but we only covered the first which was like the first four episodes and I was like, "Oh Jesus Christ, this is frustrating the [ __ ] out of me cuz I cuz for one thing we couldn't talk about the most interesting character at that time which was uh the Hitman Ninja which was uh I forget forget I forget the actor's name, but I I'll try to post. It's been a hot minute since I've seen it. Chris God Chris God that Chris God that was his name and I wanted to give the man his flowers. And I was originally set on that. And then all of a sudden an earworm decided to re ugly head and come back into my life.

6:59 That earworm that airworm being the second OP to Noami. Oh yeah. I was like hello. I swear I respect the hero. So, so here's here's a little bit more behind the scenes context for folks. So, aside from for the retro, so the retrospective series is just a limited series for the year of 2025. That's it. Um, each of us got to pick an episode that was redo an episode that was within the first three years. The catch is either either um it could be an episode that we had previously hosted and we try and get some or all of the original participants a part of it or if there's an episode that you wanted to cover. Um

7:45 if you brought it to my attention that's something that you wanted to do and host an episode on. Um I I basically had essentially final say as to whether or not um it was a go or not. and Jamal cuz he was never part of the original Norami stuff on either. I was not. Um, so he approached me. He was like, "Hey, I'm kind of interested in doing an episode for Norami. Is that something you'd be cool with? One, and two, would you want to be a part of it?" I'm like, "Hell yeah, let's do this. Cuz Norami is such a good show." And and I was so I was so due for a rewatch on it. So, I'm excited about this. On top of that, there's also further context because last year around that time, there was some speculation

8:30 uh during an anniversary they had and I thought, wait, is this finally going to happen? And I remember I remembered I have to temper my expectations because nothing's ever what it seems. Pachinko machine. Pachinko machine. The the funniest thing is I will Bob Bucker your ass for that. See, the funniest thing is it's not even pachinko machines anymore. It hasn't been for a while. What it actually is is what is mobile gotcha games that last a year or less. Yeah. Mobile suit got gacha. No, it's it's it's Mobile suit got gacha games that aren't Fire Emblem or Fate that last a year or the the the market is so like there are clear winners in

9:16 the gotacha market right now that it's like anything that's trying to even compete uh is just it has an uphill battle. Rip and piss, try and rip and piss. Try and die. Listen, listen. None of you none of you are Love Life fans, man. I went from having I went from having three mobile gota games to zero. Listen, they literally forgot about pre though. No, Love Live literally announced the opening and closing of their English server at the same time. No way. They did. Yeah. Yeah. I swear to you, I swear to God you it's true. Um, story time before we get back on track. Um, so

10:01 there used to be two different Love Life games. There was Love Life School Idol Festival, which ran for like 10 plus years. Uhhuh. And then they made All Stars, which was like a 3D a 3D version. And they were like, "Well, we don't want to have two games with all the different groups in it. So, we're just going to make one uh we're going to make one game where at the time all four groups were together." and they shuttered the other two games so everybody would focus on that game except for the mechanics on it and the uh rates on it were terrible. So nobody really wanted to play because they were all pissed about the other two games. Oh my god. So it got So they were like, "Yeah, no, it's coming to English and it's going to come to English." And then like the day they announced it for English, it's like we're having it and we're also closing it in like 3 months.

10:47 I was so angry. What the [ __ ] So, how many pulls can five yen get me in a gotacha game? That's a good question. Um, not one. [ __ ] off. Not a guess. Not a one. It It feels like it would give me like a 16th of a pixel of a JPEG. You can look at You can look at Nico's pixelated pupil or maybe a pixelated strand of hair. I don't know. Okay. Oh, good. Anyway, anyway, back to Norami. Jabal pixelated fetus ten, will you please tell the folks at home what Norami is about for those who have not heard anything about this before?

11:35 Yeah, it has been a while, hasn't it? For those years Yeah, exactly 10 years if you think about it. I I'll explain that later. Yep. Uh, for those who wonder about what the show is about, uh, minor god Yato is down on his luck. Yato's partner is fed up with slacker lifestyle and abruptly quits. He has no money, no war shippers, and no shrine to call home. And no [ __ ] Yeah. Meanwhile, tension is pulling a lot of [ __ ] But just when things are stop but just when things are starting to seem hopeless a bus accident forces him to cross paths with Hiiki a sweet and perky high school whose soul can't seem to stay in her body. I I will admit this this show was definitely fun to rewatch and I realized, you know, with

12:20 sometimes within the world of anime, there are parallels to other series I find within other shows. Mhm. Uh the the whole world building, you know, the naming of weapons, the gods, the pretty much more or less the everything. If you think about it, it kind of reminds me of Bleach but with better writing. Okay. So, actually I I'm kind of glad you mentioned that you were comparing this to other things where I was thinking to myself I I watched Origami a while ago. I remember liking it, but I sort of remembered like, how do I describe this? When when we were signing retrospective things, I was like, I like Norami, but I didn't remember like being in love with Norami. So, I'm like, I'll set this one out. And

13:07 then I'm re-watching it with Steph and then I'm realizing, oh [ __ ] what the [ __ ] was I thinking? I really like Norami. So, side note, originally Andrew wasn't a part of this episode until today. Literally today, but I watched the whole show with Steph. And after a while, like once I got into like mid the middle of Oraoto, I went from being like, "Okay, this is really good. But I'm glad I'm watching this to Oh, [ __ ] I want it on this. So, if I had to kind of describe like Norami, like I could compare it to a couple of things in that it's like I'm going to make one potentially uncouf comparison, but I promise there is a

13:54 method to the madness to I swear to God, I want to take a bet right now. Five yen, that if he says, "Welcome to Demon School Mun." Shockingly no. Shockingly no. I was going to say there's a bit of soul leader in there because of the whole the thing that they're their allies and weapons turn into weapons and all that. Also, you know the soundtrack. Also the soundtrack. It is also Taku Iwasaki which man Taku Iwasaki has a great track record with Bones and also with Lotus Juice because man him and Lotus Juice make some killer music cuz for all the good songs in there I keep thinking of the [ __ ] rectangle rectangle rectangle and then like Lotus Juice just [ __ ] like freestyling and going hard.

14:41 But no, there's two other shows I would compare Dorami to. one I say is uncoofed not for content but because of its creator. There is things about Yato's past and his like attempt to turn over a new leaf and redemption that reminds me similar to a series by the name of Kenchin. Oh, I get what you get at. But but yeah, but there is another thing I would compare it to as well, which I specifically got from the relationship between one Yato and Hiroyiki. The series is very Inu Yasha except it takes place in modern Japan

15:26 instead of feudal Japan. Okay. I I can also add one more in terms of Regalian the Masters and I disagree with comparison. You disagree with Inasha? I disagree with Inasha, but Jamal continue. I just want to add one more in terms of uh the regalas and the masters and how the masters have to their pain. Uh I don't know if anybody here ever see this but me, but uh Corpse Princess Shikabani and I will explain more when I get into a couple of the characters. So that's a deep ass cut. Very deep. so deep. I don't know if I did rewatch that show again. Oh, lordy.

16:13 I don't know anything about it to know if it's a bad show or what. I mean, it was the first thing I ever watched. It's pretty decent. Pretty decent show. Pretty good show, but some of the themes will kind of upset you a little bit. For $10, you can request to make us watch it again. Corpse Princess. This is true. If you have $10, you could become a patron of ours and tell us to watch it every couple months. I'm only putting you through emotional hellgan. What? You made it sound like we have to watch Cars Princess every couple of months if you're $10. No, we need to make like a $5,000 patron subscription that forces the podcast to watch the same show once a month every year.

17:02 There are there are worse things to do with one's money. are. Unfortunately, that's true. Yep. You could call a god of calamity to do your bidding and murder people, but he's not worth $5,000 at least. Yeah. It's called my silences. It's called my silence. It's called the podcast count. No, that's the poverty, not calamity. Oh, boy. But you know who we can call on for a show like this though? Who? our ADR staff. Yay. So, would they be shrine maidens in this scenario? Oh, for [ __ ] sake. Shut up, Andrew. Remember, it is morally it is morally

17:49 correct. Dunk Andrew. It is. It's always morally correct to dunk Andrew. It's it's it's a national holiday every day. Dunk on Andrew Day. I'm pretty sure a couple of these people be sure I made this, but one in particular could kick your ass for that. Anyway, as long as you don't, especially if you try to throw stones in our house for our AD. Anyway, all right, take a deep breath. You got this, buddy. So, I'm talking to y'all, not me. Oh my god. Starting with our ADR directors, uh, we

18:37 have two and an assistant director for season 1, we have Mike McFarland, who you see direct other shows such as Attack on Titan, Mushi, Shiki, Tokyo Ghoul, and Wolf Children, to name a few, of course. But for season 2, it kind of changed hands. Uh, and Caitlyn GL uh, and Caitlyn Glass has taken over for season 2. Caitlyn Glass, who you see direct other shows such as Foods Basket 2019, the G franchise, Hoy, Mia, Lord Mox, Vanities, and Show by Rock just to name a few. and she was also assisted by uh Afiau on uh episodes four and five who you've seen direct other shows such as assassination classroom the quintessential quintuplets

19:23 the TV series of course and SSS Dino Xenon uh for our script writers uh we have Blair Rowan who wrote three episodes of season one but you've seen him write for other shows such as are you the scarlet ammo bloodade Battlefront and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood the majority of the episodes, but for the rest of the episodes, you've seen Bonnie Clinky Beard on this. She has written for shows such as Black Butler, Foods Basket 2019, Red Dill to name a few. So, how do we want to start this conversation? I have a question for you. Because this is a holy show, I figured I should open up with confessions. Oh, God. Jesus Christ.

20:09 My confession I offer for this five yen coin. For several years, I always thought her name was Bonnie Chickenbeard instead of Bonnie Clink Beard. Jesus Christ. He I remember really like seeing that in like Adult Swim like airings of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood seeing the name and I always read it several times as Bonnie Chickenbeard. I think I remember you mentioned this in one of the earlier episodes. Which one the the hell if I know? Look, it's a retrospective. So, we need to be have a retrospective about our careers and our mistakes and how we You mean like the time that you you mean like the Let's retrospect to the time that you got kicked out of your dorm because of a

20:55 fire alarm. That was not That was That was not my fault. I cannot confess sin to something that was not my fault. That was some [ __ ] that burnt their Pop-Tart or some [Laughter] [ __ ] College kids are stupid. You want to know what sucks? The fact that he takes one to no one. So, you want to know what sucks? His stupid little bit confession right now. I'm staring at a name we're going to come across in a few minutes. And I'm like, [ __ ] My my confession where I mispronounce names for the longest [ __ ] time. Anyway, um I I actually kind of want to start with the direction if that's okay because I was so [ __ ] stoked and

21:42 Megan can attest to this. I was stoked when Mike McFarland was announced to direct this show for season 1. Like because at that point, Mike, in my head, Mike has established himself as a very very phenomenal and prominent director um in what was at the time um Funimation realm and you would give him the big properties, but on every so often a relatively smaller one because Norami wasn't I don't think a huge property at the time like here in the States, but it it's it was given a little love and attention to by Mike and I and I appreciate that. And while the transfer to season two under Caitlyn, I was sad

22:30 cuz I was just like, why is Mike not on the show? But my brain is also like Caitlyn is very capable. She's more than capable of continuing on with the direction and where the show was headed. And also, if I remember correctly, didn't Caitlyn also act as an assistant director for quite some time with Mike under the original Full Metal Alchemist? Yes. Yep, he she did. Okay. So, I had to take a look because I remembered season 1 was a home video release that I think came out like a year, year and a half, maybe two years after the original broadcast. No, it was like a year after. No, it was it was it Okay, here's what it was. Uh first the first season the home video

23:16 release came out and I think the the first video said June 7th 2015. Yeah. Later that year. Later that year. Okay. Was our it transitioned it it? Yes. It had became a time dub at that point because remember back when it was called the broadcast dub when things were starting up it was a year one broadcast dub. Yes. Correct. The reason Caitlyn Glass had to take over because at the time they were airing Attack on Titan Junior High. That's why. And to and I believe Tokyo Glory was that season. No, it wasn't. No winner. It was It was the second half of Sarif, right? It was Yeah. I'm sorry. Second half of Sif cuz we had that We had that episode that was that episode

24:04 we Yeah, cuz the double That was the double talk block at the time. Correct. Oh, it's a good It's a I'm sorry. It's a good thing you mentioned S because there were a couple of qualms I had with QC that kind of pertains to a particular character we'll talk about later. And uh it's a good thing you bring that up. Yeah, I I genuinely remember that this that it what the Blu-ray release was like a year after the show aired because the show aired I think if I'm correct winter 2014. That sounds because No, because here's the thing. This is the thing I remember about watching Norami the first time when it was subtitled was I had just graduated college and I marathoned it on my TV that I had gotten for graduation. You would be correct is winter 2014.

24:51 Yeah. Because that summer Tokyo would come out and I became obsessed with it. Yep. I remember watching or like Normagami and Oraoto in like my college like dorm cuz that I was in grad school when season one happened and then season two I had graduated by that point. So I was a dishwasher at that point. So goodness. Uh yeah, this stuff's good. Yeah, it still holds up really nicely. There's a lot of interesting picks like looking back on it retrospective wise, but like man, it's kind of amazing that this dub's like a decade old now and like there's still some like killer like

25:37 career highlights in the show. I would argue the three leads alone would be career highlights for them still. Honestly fair. Honestly, extremely fair. And then there are definitely some like of the major or secondary characters where because for that time right you had a mix of very wellestablished actors giving performances you don't normally have would have seen them in at that point in time. I.e. I'm just looking at this list. Kouma, right? Kouma's a big one I think. Um, and then you also have newer actors at that time who are now huge. Who are now huge, i.e. Bishimon.

26:25 Yeah. Who uh just blew it out of the water during that. Like the the Bishimon Kuma conversation is going to be so [ __ ] interesting. I will say this much. Um, but no, I think like the on the directing and the writing side, the directing was very solid. It it it definitely played to all of the point all of the different points and beats and moments of the show whether it is the comedic the the dramatic or sometimes the even more like gut-wrenching like emotional parts and the writing does did extremely well to compliment it. Bonnie because she's the primary writer on this Blair did a few episodes. Bonnie has always been good with this kind of material like full stop. She's always been good

27:10 with this type of material. So, I was extremely happy. I remember at the time when Bonnie was announced to take on the show cuz I think by that point I had already seen Death Parade and she did so phenomenal with Death Parade. So, I was just like thrilled to see this happen. And then you have Blair and you have assisting on the writing end and you have Afia assisting on season 2's directing end. And it just it just came together so nicely. and is is still I'm still thrilled that it holds up today. I I genuinely think like this is one of those shows where it's like I can definitely tell at the time some of these decisions might have been like a little how do I describe it like products of their time is the word that comes to mind because it's like it's a

27:57 lot of people that back then it still had to be like within the area or you had to get somebody at the time. But I can kind of tell like looking at some of these like with retrospect certain casting decisions were definitely made like approximately to the time this was dubbed. Yeah. Cuz it's like there's a bunch of like pe like local people from Dallas, but like there's one person that's like has been in the LA scene for over a decade now and I know that they were there because because of something. Yeah, I was going to say which, yeah. Yeah, it's it's very interesting looking at a show like this in hindsight, but more than anything, Norami is a show I think I remembered like, oh, that was pretty good, and then

28:44 I watched it again. This show and this dub's really good. Yeah. Wow. Oh, yeah. I I kind of forgot in this level of like I don't know how to describe it. It's like maybe it's just because of all the stuff I was watching at the time. Like maybe it was because like my big college era was me watching a whole bunch of stuff and I was just like, "Oh, I just binged this a bunch. This was one of my 20 shows I watched in my dorm room that year." And especially in like like especially if it's not even including like maybe like five or six in a season alone, I would assume. Oh yeah, 100%. So I think this actually like focusing on the one show. Yeah. So, so kind of locking into this one now that I'm a little older, a little wiser, a little grayer. Uh, yeah,

29:29 the show's incredible. It's still really good, and I'm very impressed by a lot of the performances and the the overall care and like genuine like passion that went into a lot of this. I remember hearing like a couple of like I know Caitlyn got close with like a couple of actors on this one just from their time working on Norami and it's it's not hard to see why this is definitely a trial by fire show. Yeah, it's amazing. Sorry. Go ahead. No, you first. Yeah, it's amazing how well it's held up because I remember watching the commentaries. Mike talked about like he when he would direct a show, he would usually keep his sessions further loose.

30:16 But Norami kind of made this extremely hard for him. And when we get to Yukun, you'll understand why. But it's amazing how like Yeah, he had to control his sessions to the point where like you know the some of the dramatic stuff he had to start with the back start at the back half and keep like some of the lighter toes and maybe the softer speaking dialogue in the the in the front. I mean, okay, I had that backwards. basically starts out with big screamy scream first, then the soft to speak and the uh stoic dialogue later, you know, just to make sure that not only do you reach your potential, but you're able to control that potential, too. Uh much like some of these characters in this show. And I

31:02 think, you know, have a having a strong director and a strong script writer and Bonnie kind of really helps to break that focus out, especially when they had to make the transition from DVD dub to Simo dub because I remember uh Hi's actress. She was basically a freshman in college when she started through all this. And she talks about like during her sessions like she would just crash out of the studio sometimes and take snaps in between sessions cuz that's how like how demanding a show like this is for actors. Like hell even a lot of them admitted on commentary that where they where the they got they were announced to be cast for the show. They started binging the sub when it was on Netflix like maybe a few episodes at a

31:47 time before they ended up watching the whole of season one. God, Netflix like a decade ago is very different than Netflix today. That's for sure. Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was. I mean, hell, even what a difference 10 years would make. Did Did they even start doing Netflix original anime then? I don't even remember. No. I know. No. God, that's crazy. I know, right? Anyway, what were you gonna say, Megan? Oh, I was going to give my thoughts on this on the the direction and the writing. Um, go for it. Yeah. No, so it's really weird to come back to this now, like after 10 years. I've probably not watched the show in like 10

32:33 years or at least, uh, since Argodo aired, uh, which would be right about 10 years. Um, as of October. Ah, I'm old. Um, but I I genuinely really like it. And I will say this though, as much as I like the dub of season one, I think the dub of season 2 is a bit better. I find it far more polished actually, which is really funny to say since that was the simo dub one and not the DVD dub. Um, but granted also, uh, the last three episodes of season one are complete filler and are absolutely useless to the story, and I have my own. I've got words for that. I have more words for this as I have more words for this as an adaptation because I think I am the one person here who's actually read a majority of the Norami manga.

33:19 That's why I'm grateful to have you on here. Um I've not read it in its entirety. I'm like I think I'm like 10 volumes behind, but I've read what was covered in the anime. Uh mostly because the Bishiman arc is probably one of my favorite arcs in all of anime and manga. Um I think the writing on this is sub uh sublime. I do like a lot of the little pop culture references that they snuck in there. Don't think I didn't catch that Hotel California joke. Yeah. Um for me it was uh uh bodies by drowning pool. Yeah. Let the bodies hit the floor. Um also also there was a line tension had by entanglement. I'm like Jesus Christ. But that was before the whole situation that happened. Here's the thing with me upon re-watching this show is it was a

34:06 lot hornier than I remembered. Yeah. Um I'll be real. I was like this is a little bit hornier than I remember cuz I when Yuki's going through the triangle of shame uh at one point I was trying to feel a piori. Um, yeah, just like it's a genuinely like they they don't play that for comedy, but it's like yeah, it is a legit moment where he's like, yeah, he's kind of like a year or two younger than her than her. So, yeah, he's horny for her. He's horny for her. Hormones are crazy when you're a kid that's angry and depressed and also 14 and also dead and 14. Welcome to a show about death.

34:55 Um, oh god. But like, no, I really I do really like the casting on this. It is kind of insane to like sit back and look at the major characters, you're like, "Yeah, no, now you're like a mainstay in the in the anime dubbing industry and you've done like these huge big incredible product productions and and you're still like, wow." Um, I do want to say this is the dub that I think actually turned me around on the guy who plays Yato as a voice actor. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Uh cuz I have uh words for another franchise that's being currently dubbed by Caitlyn Glass right now. Um and how much I don't like a certain performance in that and I apologize, but I overall really like this dub and I I was like, "Wow, this is really easy to sit and watch and sit and listen to." Um

35:42 I also just like uh some of the really interesting casting choices that we are not talking about. Uh, very specifically getting to hear Jaime Marky as the quiet older lady type. Yeah. Yep. Uh, cuz she's the uh the plum tree spirit who wants to bang uh Lord Lord Tenin. Tenjin. Oh, she's the tree hugger, right? Yeah, she's tree hugger. or um I know we're not talking about her uh but like uh Monica Riol as the really skimpy outfit that we Yeah, I think it's really funny that like she became like the favorite like guard. Like you could tell her dispense must be like crazy going by JRPG rules. Oh yeah. No. Uh, I will talk

36:29 about it when we get to uh talking about some the I guess like the first section of characters, but I will talk about why that one character was uh kind of jealous. Okay. Yeah, basically. No, it's a good ass dub. Good ass dub. Great ass dub. Oh man. Love it. So So we good to move on then? Yeah. Yeah. All right. So, because we're talking about both seasons simultaneously, we we kind of have a unique order here. We're going to talk about basically some of the major villains of this show going from season well I say major in quotations going from season one to season two because as we just discussed one of them turned out to be complete failure and oh you I am not happy about

37:18 him but we'll get more into that later. Yeah. So basically in this section we have uh Robbo uh was bas used to be human was basically a held would sneak into the uh enemy encampment and would kill the soldiers and to make sure that uh no word gets out he was killed in order uh he was killed in order to be silenced. He was basically deified and reincarnated into a god of calamity. Woke from a 500year slumber to reunite with the yato god who he deems a little unworthy after his time spent. Uh, as you just said, we come to find out he's basically a filler episode.

38:04 Uh, I'm I'm not going to lie. I really thought his arc was kind of weak and now I know why. It's literally because yeah, they needed something to sort of end. I think it's clear that they're like, we need something to end this on. And back then, I a decade ago, the concept of how they pace out shownen anime has certainly changed a lot in a decade since it was back then. Kids these days would not understand filler, nor could they handle it. Then again, some of them think actual show is filler. I have literally seen solo leveling fans say free has filler. It [ __ ] No. There there are people that I think there's this level

38:50 of like the concept of what filler is has gotten to such a ridiculous standard of anything that does not move the main plot along is filler which it's like that's a level of genuine absurdity because that just means you don't want characters, you want functions. You want functional action set pieces. Yeah, I was going to say, Andrew, it's not even about moving the plot forward. It's why is there not fighting? And here's the thing. By modern day standards, guess what? The filler has definitely changed in 10 years. Guess what? Robo does meet those standards. Actually, he's got some Oh, it is his fight scenes. So, here's the thing. He's not filler

39:38 then. I'm also going to argue in defense of filler and say the reality is this is not even that bad. It's not that bad. It's underwhelming. It's like Jamal, you were talking about this is a better bleach. This is a subpar to above average bleach filler arc. Yes. I bet you know which one I'm thinking of exactly. Okay, never mind. No, it's the one with the whole rank cause and how the uh the hollowos get absorbed into the captains, that kind of thing. I've gotta be real with you. I've suppressed a lot of bleach. I stopped after season two of the show.

40:23 I got watch. I'm not the biggest bleach stand here. I'm more of a Windex guy. Yeah, we know you drink that. Yeah, we know you love your Windex. ah call backs. Anyways, what I'm saying is I don't think those episodes are that terrible. They're inoffensive, but yeah, they're not they're not terrible, but like you got other other than other than other than maybe sort of engaged backtory a little, it doesn't really do much for me. Like I said, anyways, who else we got? Your mom. Jesus. Thank you. I mean I mean I mean I I see where Megan's going with this. We

41:09 don't have mom. We have manchild though. No, we we got the guy who wants mommy's attention as yo. Manch child. As yo. Why don't Why don't you build me up, buttercup? Uh we [Music] have we have Dr. Cougar aka Couga who is one of Bishelia. Uh well what is G all turns out to be a ballad the scales a ballads which kind of makes sense for this arc. Uh he basically plots to kind of yeah he basically plots to reincarnate Bishiman because she he believes that uh she's supposed to be god toward this ruthless person but she's just taking

41:55 pity on all those that he deems unworthy. And uh as a result as uh has we find out later he's actually a he doesn't he doesn't fully go by the name Cougar and uh once he's released from Bishabat's makabahara uh he kind of seeks revenge against the yato god especially for cutting off his hand. Jesus Christ. So, if I was to describe Couga, basically, you know those obsessive idol fans that get like real crazed to the point where it's like, I liked you back when you were your or early work or I liked your original work before you got mainstream and then they become an obsessive stalker and try to kill him. Ew, I hate that. But it actually makes sense for him. Yeah. Oshino Norami.

42:46 God. No. No. No. Oshi norco. No. Nor shut oshi norco. Jamal. Who's the next person? Oh sh Oh sh Not not not you, Steph. Not you, Steph. Who else? No. I'm trying to get him to shut up. Who else are we talking about? Your mom. No. We also have another one of Bishiman's regalia Iha whose tr whose alternate form is a suit of armor. We find out that Bishiman in this arc suffers a blight from having taken out all the strain of her of attain obtaining all this regalia. We find out she develops a

43:32 blight because one of them kind of becomes a bit jealous and upset that a bishop has it called out to her. See, in this in this universe, what it is is with Regalia, if you don't maintain your borderline, you're basically one step closer to becoming a phantom yourself. That's kind of where the uh Bleach comparisons kind of come in because it's basically either a spirit and you get possessed by a hollow or you get sent to heaven. That's kind of the comparison for me. That's where I see it. That's in the That's in the first season. I know y'all know that at least. Anyway, I had before Bleach went to [ __ ] I ain't going to [ __ ] on Bleach tonight. That's not my plan anyways. Again, that's why I say this is Bleach

44:17 for better writing. The only difference is one was in Shonen Jump. The other was in Codanter. Anyway, because her jealousy kind of raged on she ends up she's kind of global. She ends up working with Dr. Cougar to kind of take control of the situation. She basically gets gas lit to becoming his co-conspirator. Basically, she has a scourge staff and as a result, more phantoms start to grow on her and they employ phantoms in the in their plans which oh Jesus Christ. Which man couger before gaslighting was even a term in the lexicon.

45:02 Yeah, basically uh and as a result of her actions, she manages to get a Bluetooth, which I'll explain more later on. And kind of toads versus basically by working side by side with Bishiman in the Ebisu arc, which we'll get to later. And as for all of this, this all kind of results in the for one central character, Nora. Well, I have to explain. Nora is not her name. what her name is. She has many. What a Nova is is basically a regalia that Oh, for Jesus, I can't believe I'm going to say this. It's basically a regalia that kind of pimps themselves out to other owners. No, I mean that's crude, but correct.

45:48 Wrong. That's what they That's basically what they they say to it in the show basically. Yeah. That that and I remember Hardy in the uh one of the original episodes called her Nora the horror. Oh my god, that sound like Yeah, that sounds about right. It It's like what? It's also worth noting that Nora specifically does mean stray, which was listening to the commentary. Norami is a show that is called Stray God. Yeah. And basically the whole point of being a Norah is is when a god wants some a dirty dirty work done that they don't want the other regalas to do. And she's she's the first we meet. But she's not the only ones as we'll find

46:33 out later on. But playing these four, Robbo is played by Mike Mcfarlland. Cougar is played by Phil Parsons. I played by Michelle Rohas. and Norah herself is played by Lauren Lander. Uh Mike McFarland, you've seen him in other roles as John Kerstein from Attack on Titan. Delro Baldi from Blood Blockade Battlefront and quote from Show by Rock. Phil Pauses, you've seen as Kenny across Titan. Claus von Reinhardts in Blood Blockade Battlefront and Zazzle in High School DXD. Michelle Roas you've seen as Tokyo Yagami in Day Life. Co Yagami New Game and Yamato in One Piece and Lauren Lander. You've seen him as Annina in

47:20 Attack on Titan. Luia Galita Edell to the Freight franchise. Sailor Neptune in the Sailor Moon Fizz redub. And I'm going to throw this one in here. Reiko Cooji and Koon generic romance. And for good reason. I would like to go first. Go right ahead. Okay. So, first of all, I need to point out why IHOD starts doing a lot of this. And it's because she Do you want to know the reason why Bishiman started using Monica more? Is she lighter? Uh, kind of. It's because of the giant skirt. There's a giant skirt attached to that armor and she was tripping over it. That makes sense. Yeah, mobility is a thing.

48:05 She already has to attend to the giant goldily locks of hair. So tripping over your hair and your skirt does seem like it would wield tricky results. So I see the logic except for except for here's the thing. Uh we see throughout the show that Bishiman can pin her hair up really high. Yeah. Um, so I don't know what the [ __ ] going on there, but uh, let me get my thoughts on this because, uh, I'll start off with Mike McFarland is Robbo. Uh, Robbo exists. Mike McFarland's performance exists in this kind of show. I, that's like that's going to sound really mean, but here's the thing.

48:51 Um, he doesn't get to do anything. Like, unfortunately, he just doesn't get to do anything. And all he does is he shows up for three episodes. He is fairly menacing. Mike sounds very growly and creepy and all that stuff, but that's about it. There is not a lot of meat to that performance um for him. There's not a lot of meat on that character for him to grip in. And I know Mike is a very talented actor. Um, so for me that performance just kind of exists. Uh, going on to Michelle as Iha. I think they do a really good job. Though I would say this is probably one of the more green performances I had

49:36 ever like even 10 years later that I've ever heard from Michelle because Michelle does some really great work. Um, and I don't want to say this was early on in their career 100%. Um, because yeah, they had been doing like fairy tale and and Date Alive at that point, but like they had been named characters and things. Um, uh, but I do like them. I really do like their performance. I think that they they get that level of uh, IHA's [ __ ] down. and their regret. And I really like the stuff when the Bishiman arc ends where they start, you know, just being a normal person with all of the other

50:24 Shinki. Um, where it's like I think she writes like terrible love stories. As an aside, Megan, because I know you're here, you'd appreciate it. My first thought upon seeing Iha as uh Bishimmon's armor is she just turns Bishimon into Saber. She [ __ ] does. She really [ __ ] does. Um she she really does. Uh so then let's go to to Phil as Kugaha. Um, I I thought it was fine to be honest. I thought it it hit the notes it needed to. I don't think it was necessarily my favorite performance in

51:10 the show, uh, nor one of my favorite Phil Parsons performances, especially because uh, earlier that year, I think we had kind of gotten like the quintessential Phil Parson's performance in Blockade Battlefront. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I won't disparage that. But I will also say I personally feel you are underelling Cougah in this particular film. Oh, no, no, I think he's I think it's a good performance. I just don't necessarily think it's my favorite performance of Phil Parsons. All right, I'll continue. Um I I I think that it is fine. Uh if it's like, hey, I I don't feel negatively or super strongly about it. I do think that he nails the part

51:55 where he finally gets called out for all of his [ __ ] um very well, but then you know there's there are also times where I feel like um it's just like oh okay um I just like just it wasn't my it wasn't like my most memorable performance in this show and I'm trying not to like be negative. It's just like oh okay. Uh, but man, Laura Land is [ __ ] great as Nora. Uh, we all know, we all know why she's in this. Um, small independent anime called Attack on Titan that never went anywhere. Uh, being recorded right around then if you know, no one's ever heard of that. Never went on to have an

52:42 infuriating final season release schedule ever. Oh, well, we we don't have enough time in the night. We really don't. I just saw the clock. Uh, I'm I'm making a [ __ ] post. Uh, but I I think she is so exceptionally good in this. She is so [ __ ] creepy. Just like there is almost a there's almost like a seduction mixed with a childlike wonder in her voice where it's like, listen, I get it. She's a thousand years old lolli, but it's played for horror. playing playing that for horror does work a lot better than playing it for

53:27 unironic titilation. Yeah. Like there is nothing nothing good that's ever going to come out of out of you know [ __ ] around with Nora ever in this show. Um, I think to me one of the best scenes of her is when they are I think it's in the last episode too is when Yato finally, you know, kicks her to the curb. Mhm. Yeah. And it's just like, you know what? No. No. We're done here. We're We're done with this. Uh-uh. I release you. And there's just like this level of, no, how can you do this to me? we've been together forever. We are we are always always, you know, we're supposed to

54:14 we're peas in a pod. You'll always need me. And like there's this level of like creepy attachment that she never wants to let go to. And she's so taunting in everything she does because, you know, she she wants to put doubt into Yukina. She wants to make him feel jealous because she herself is jealous that Yato has moved on from her, but yet she is well aware that she's just like, you know, using him too. I have a question for you because you mentioned reading the manga. I remember I remember once upon a time I tried and failed to start reading the manga after uh the point of Norami Araoto and I remember reading a few

55:01 chapters and finding that there was a change made to the anime in comparison to the manga that I actually liked more in the anime. And I want to make sure if I'm not crazy about this. Yes. If I remember correctly, Hiori and Yukin snuck around to see Yakto break up with Nora. But in the anime, Yako brings Yuk to show him he's breaking up with Nora. And I like that a lot more, actually. It also makes Yukin's arc in the manga go a lot more sourly because the entirety of

55:46 the Norami manga can also be summed up as godamn it Yukune. It feels like a lot of the problems that Yato and Yukiday go through is that they are poor communicators in this relationship. Yes. Yes. Poor communication kills in this franchise. Literally half of the deaths of Bishimad regalia is because nobody wants to tell anybody what happened or how they feel about things or how they boy howdy boy howdy when we get to that section I have words. Mhm. But yeah. Uh yeah. No, I'm done. Everybody else can go. I think Mike McFarland is really good

56:31 playing a 6.5 out of 10 filler character in a 8 to nine out of 10 quality story. I I I know that sounds like rude, but I'm like trying to say that I do not think the Rambo stuff is bad. It's It is average compared to what I feel is a show that's swinging for the fences exceptionally high, which is why I think it makes it stand out. That being said, Mike McFarland's great as playing this uh jealous, bitter, fights sexual exboyfriend and then getting corrupted because he won't get the fight that he wants, which is usually Oh, no. He corrupts himself. He corrupts himself to make himself look more sexually appealing as a fight sexual. Godamn. So,

57:17 are you saying that letting all of the phantoms inside of his gaping hole is basically a mating ritual? Anyway, well, I was going somewhere. It's Viagra. Anyway, Mike McFarland's good. Anyways, I also do really like Michelle Rojos as I um I want to say, yeah, I I think Michelle Rojos sounds pretty good, but I definitely think that for better or for worse, she is a character. Even though she is like the cause of the drama, she also gets a little lost in the background among some of the other regalas, which there's a lot of really fun regal. Is it me? Am I the drama? Is it me? Am I the drama? Yes. The answer is yes. But

58:03 um I gotta say I was extremely impressed by Phil Parsons Couga because he's got this level of soft serenity to it. Which by the way, I think this one blew me away when I first heard this performance as Phil Parsons because back then I really only knew Phil Parsons for one major role and that was Nappa. That was Nappa in Dragon Ball Z. That was legitimate. That stop it. I can't even hear I can't even hear modern Nappa anymore without thinking of uh team fourstar Nappa. It's ridiculous.

58:49 Oh, why won't you love me? Me too. I'm haunting you. God. Anyways, no. The the thing Why won't you call on me? No. All right. You did you you walked into this one. Look, I need to tip the scales back in my favor. Anyways, um so tip the scales. Anyways, Phil's got this level of soft kindness to him that he's unassuming, but he's got I think I remember in the commentary he was talking about that he's very jafaresque that he he's something about that where he's he's just like the regals. He's the how what's the be he's basically the grand vazier that's

59:34 basically whispering sweet poison in the emperor's ear trying to make them distrustful and trying to make [ __ ] happen in their favor. And I think there's something about that that's so insidious. But I think like one of the defining moments for me is like poor uh poor Dallas Reed, precious little flower boy has done wrong in his entire life. And it's like you can tell that like this cougah guy, he's a little suspect. He's like, "Your bastard doesn't even remember who you are. Nobody's going to remember who you are. Why are you even trying, you [ __ ] idiot? No one's going to remember you. You're better off dead. I want you to know he has his arm around

1:00:21 upon you. I want you to know he has his arm around me and he's unfortunately kind of close to my ear while saying this and I'm a little unsettled. I'm telling you, Kugaha is like the he whispers sweet poison in your ear. Stop touching me. Okay. Anyway, but no, I legitimately love how like sinister, maniacal, and eventually obsessive, fixated. He's the guy that prefers the early work of Bishiman and he's like willing to kill to get back to the early days. It's weird that they they they equate him with like seeing her as a mother and how he wants her to like be his mom

1:01:07 again, but it's also like you're turning her into a child and that's kind of weird. Um, oh, let's look if we want to talk about this Freudian psychosexual nature of some of the relationships in the show, we can write some papers on that or scrolls. I think I think Kugaha has an edipus complex. Oh, 100%. Yeah. Oh [ __ ] I didn't think about that. You're like, "Yeah, wait." Which God, if you want to talk about like psychosexual readings that I didn't even think about previously, I was just like, "Yeah, Nora is basically kind of like a stray insidious little like ghostlike creature." There's some commentary to be

1:01:52 made about her basically being a child. basically. Yeah, I guess I guess there is some sort of hidden meaning to the design and the Nora conceptually making her look like a child prostitute. I mean, there's a very good reason for that in that if you notice Su Yato's backstory, it looks like I I don't know any further than what I see in the anime, but it looks like the two of them were old friends. And not to mention the fact regalius don't regalius let alone Norris don't really age once they die you know cuz they stay they stay the same age as they pass to death because if and I originally I originally

1:02:39 had them on the list but I had to take them off that is really the Suzah because Suzah he had been uh maintaining maintaining contact with his skill he saw on the on the island for like 30 years as throughout all those 30 years he was pretty much ageless. So, can I say how [ __ ] up it is that they introduced that whole arc and the assumption is that this arc is going to be explored a little more where it's like you set up the fact that the concept of time moving differently for regalia being forgotten and all that and you're like you see the flash he gets the flashback Suzah gets the flashback and you're like we are going to go somewhere with this character and with

1:03:27 the exploration of that arc. He's dead. He is [ __ ] dead. And I was like, "Oh, no." Because his death is used to explore something equally as traumatic. Yeah. And again, that's the reason I was gonna put them on this list, but I took them off like the at the not at the last minute, but like when I was trying to streamline this whole thing because Yeah, because Yeah, cuz unfortunately they were basically a plot device. That That's basically what it was. It was an effective one, but still. But yeah, um I like Robbo. I like I like IA, but I think for me the standouts are the evil Couga and the very complicated Nora. Uh Lord Landa especially, like

1:04:12 there's something ethereal, ghostlike, and genuinely unsettling. Every time there is a drop of water now, I'm just going to think, "Ah [ __ ] she's right behind me, isn't she?" Uh if that drop of water happens to reverse then yeah maybe cuz that's when we're first introduced to her cuz but god yeah what a creepy unsettling character. But I really do enjoy her kind of complicated but equally compelling [ __ ] up relationship she has with Yato. It's like you two are so bad for each other, but you don't know how to quit each other because it's comfortable and familiar. And a lot of Yato's growth as a person is learning to let go and

1:04:58 learning to make the steps to change and cut toxic people out of your life, even if you do have a long-standing history with each other. So, you know what? Proud of you, Yato, for taking positive steps at reaffirming your mental health. Good on you, buddy. All right, Steph, you want to go? Oh, sorry. Uh, sure. I mean, I'm I'm probably going to be brief on most of these. Like, I'll start with Michelle because Michelle Michelle didn't have a ton to do. I was like plot device kind of. Yeah. I was kind of essentially a plot device to kind of help push some of the Bishiman arc along. and um un

1:05:45 inadvertently be a co-conspirator for Kugaha. Uh but Michelle, I didn't show you Michelle's performance. I think this was pretty fairly early on for Michelle Rohos as well, if I recall correctly. It was Yeah, it was probably like not like their first performance, but I definitely think that's why I say early. Mhm. I would say early. Um, both Phil Parsons and Mike McFarland I enjoyed a lot uh for very different reasons. Like Mike's performance for Robbo was they were both both of them are more like subtle subdued in a way except Mike is just like he he he goes like full like crazy like attack and it can kind of get

1:06:31 very chilling at times from Robbo. And then you have Kugaha and Phil Parsons where his is more subdued but in a way where it's like unassuming and that's the whole and that helps him helps Kugaha fly under the radar um with everything going on Bishiman. But I want to highlight Lauren Landa here because I had never heard when the time this first season of Norami happened. I had never heard of Lord Lando before in my life. I didn't know who this was. And obviously I know more since then. But with Nora, Lauren is just she has that

1:07:16 childlike quality, but it's like very very soft, very very subtle. And it's just I like how you guys were saying that game play is more into like horror elements because I 100% get that. Like it's very like chilling and kind of just sickening at times too. Some of the things that Na was do and say and like her conversations with Yato, her conversations with Yukina, her conversations with Hiori, like all of it. Oh my god, I'm tired. All of it is just like so like a sickly sweet kind of vibe and Lauren Landa gives that off

1:08:02 very very nicely and I enjoyed every second of it. Um but no yeah I think with the exception of Nora, everybody else was fine. Like I Nora I think was the standout of this section 100%. Um, oh yeah, I will also give shout outs to while I do love that he is a very like sinister like snake like like I think I think I remember Phil describing it as like the snake in the Garden of Eden kind of in the way that he was portraying Kugaha in that he's like this very like soft but like seductive level of like sinister despite the fact that he's basically like the ultimate gaslight gatekeep girl boss and Then he and then he just devolves into like okay he got

1:08:48 he gets really pissed off after he loses his hand and then he just kind of becomes like a maniacal bitter [ __ ] He's like ha eat [ __ ] Yukune your master sucks and you suck too eat it and then he gets his ass rocked. Yeah. And then Yukin kicks his ass cuz cuz Hi's like Yukin Yato picked you and only you. He love you. Unlike Bishiman, you're unlike unlike Kugaha whose parents don't love them anymore. [Laughter] Goodness. But yeah, good good section, good good characters, good stuff. Yeah. Uh just go

1:09:33 through real quick. I I don't know like how much of the m manga came out at the time the first season origami was recorded but I would think Mike McFaren at some point realized Robbo was just as much as he plays a part yaw's backstory the character was just kind of there so he pro that's pro cuz a lot of directors will try to slot themselves in sometimes I think this is where he chose his mark because you know Robbo doesn't get much to do and is kind just kind of dies in the end after all of that. Don't know if it provides any real weight. Well, he provides some weight, but it's kind of lightweight. Uh Michelle Rohas hot. Yeah, I agree. Uh they were kind of green at the time

1:10:19 because I remember the first thing I heard was D Life, but that was before I found out it was actually Good Luck Girl I heard them in. And uh Good Luck Girl was kind of a wonky comedy at the time. Oh god. Was this back when Data Live only had like a season in it or two? Yeah, it was the first season. It was like, believe it or not, over over 10 years ago. Jesus. Anyway. Yeah. So, when they So, when they came onto the scene, they they they were they were just starting to come up at the time. I mean, they they were pretty good, you know. The the only the only real the only real thing about Iha being a kind of little plot little plot device is that Iha got more screen time than the other two characters I initially had on the list. uh that being Suzah and uh uh

1:11:09 Manabu in season one because they provided some way to some a couple of the characters in that in that in their respective arcs, but I kind of didn't want to waste my time with that. And I know this episode's already going to go long as is. So, shout outs to Austin and Dallas. Oh, yeah. Houston, the Austin Tindle had a really good little arc where Yato Yato basically played the bet on him being um on him not on him not becoming the friend that tells you not to come to school tomorrow. Yeah. And if we ever do get a season 3, I hope Houston Hayes comes up from Senti

1:11:55 Records. That way we can have what I like to call the Texas trio. Oh my gosh. Shut up. Shut up. No, I will not. Thank you very much. As for Cougar, but I can't wait. Okay. Blood Blockade Battlefront was before the second season, right? No, I think it was that spring. Yeah, I think so. Yes. Wow, that that was a close one. I I I like fill in this role. Of course, I liked him better as Clouse, but uh he manages to pull some ways. Couga. Uh yeah, Kaha. Yeah, it it did kind of devolve like towards the end into like it it started as an edipus complex. It it becomes like no more

1:12:42 notice me, mommy, please. Which really points out, but I hate the fact you make me realize it was an addict complex. Next section. You're welcome. You're hanging out with a lot of people that have film and literature degrees. Like, we know this stuff and somebody who's really into mils. Okay. Okay. Oh, you meant Andrew. Yeah. What? Oh, I'm sorry. Did you think that Did you think that you were so important that your mil thing overseed my MILF thing? Look, for the sake of fairness, we all love those. I'm gonna I'm gonna mute

1:13:27 this mic so Andrew shuts the [ __ ] up. We all Anyway, while those two argue in the background, yeah, I mean, Coug does his his bit like he gets cast to the side into the ether, lands lands the course back right down to Earth. quite literally, of course. Conveniently lands back in Japan. Um, conveniently. Yeah. And then we only see him again for like one episode in the episode. I I really wish I I really wish I could have known more about that about that character because I mean I could get an understanding of where he might have come from but cuz the whole restraint thing that Yukin tried and it kind of

1:14:13 failed because of course with restraint you have to know the to have to invoke the person's name which apparently he doesn't go by cougah well he didn't go by cougah anyway he he had another name what that name is I do not Oh, but of course the stand out here is uh Lauren Landanda is Nora because uh well see I've been familiar with a lot of Lauren Landis work. I think even there was even some roles I was familiar with before norami. I can't remember what but to me personally attack on Titan Jamal before that though uh was it Moka Eduka? That may have been it, but I did not watch enough of

1:14:59 it. Anyway, in the time since I kind of come to realize that when it comes to voicing certain roles, Lauren Land is the voice of Hot Budget Sex. To which that's why, okay, okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let me finish before you interrupt me. Which is why I brought up Koon generic romance because one of the things is having to go from that type of voice to Nora is like you said it's kind of tending his own way but the fact that she has to put on as a childish type of voice was a little unusual and then I remembered oh yeah she's also in Tony Cow and that's a that's also a younger kind of voice too but as Sucasa also has

1:15:44 to put on ears especially around her husband also I tried find that uh that little post you did in Discord about Koon generic romance, but I could not for for the love of me find it cuz I remember you said that that that with Lauren Lando that's that was the hottest thing you ever heard. And I thought that made perfect sense in this context because, you know, there's there's an there's enticing and then there's
