How to Use AI to Win in Trading

Brief Summary

In this video, Brad Goh discusses the limitations of AI in trading while emphasizing the importance of practical skills and personal discipline. Despite the tech advancements, many traders still struggle with profitability because AI cannot replace human judgment or emotional resilience in executing trades.

  • AI provides access to information but does not improve execution.
  • Many traders fall into analysis paralysis when overwhelmed by AI-generated data.
  • Relying on AI can lead to strategy hopping and disrupt the development of a consistent trading method.
  • Risk management cannot be effectively handled solely by AI; discipline and execution are crucial.
  • AI should be used as a support tool rather than a replacement for critical thinking.

Why AI Is Making You Unprofitable

Brad Goh opens by questioning why AI hasn't made everyone profitable in trading despite its widespread availability. He suggests that it has democratized access to information but hasn't improved essential skills or execution in trading. Profitability stems from applying knowledge consistently while adhering to principles such as risk management and discipline. He stresses that although he utilizes AI technologies daily, they cannot replace the crucial human element of decision-making in trading.

The Truth Nobody Tells You About AI

Goh explains that while AI offers instant access to trading concepts, it can hinder clarity and decision-making by creating confusion with too much information. He describes a phenomenon he calls "AI-induced analysis paralysis," where traders become overwhelmed by options and delay making trades, ultimately impacting their profitability. He argues for the importance of simplicity in trading strategies for faster, more effective execution.

How AI Is Sabotaging Your Trading

He continues by highlighting that the ease of switching strategies with AI leads to a lack of depth in traders' skills. Goh likens this to video games, where constant restarting prevents mastery. Too many strategies can create an unstable foundation for success, as traders fail to stick with one approach to hone their skills and gather significant data for improvement.

The AI Strategy Trap

Goh points out that risk management is another area where AI falls short. While it can generate statistically sound strategies, human traders often struggle with adhering to these plans due to emotional factors like fear and greed. He stresses that one emotional decision can undo weeks of disciplined trading, linking successful trading to self-discipline and control over one's actions in the market.

Why AI Can't Save You From Losing Money

Brad outlines how the misconception that AI trading bots will lead to effortless profits is misleading. He illustrates that just because AI can backtest a strategy based on historical data, it doesn't guarantee future success. Market dynamics change, making past data less relevant. He emphasizes that traders should focus on developing a repeatable edge based on solid reasoning rather than relying solely on AI-generated solutions.

The Biggest Lie About AI Trading Bots

Goh critiques the belief that employing AI strategies alone will yield consistent profits. He notes that traders often misinterpret AI-generated strategies as foolproof, leading to unrealistic expectations. He urges viewers to understand that strategies created by AI might not hold up under varying market conditions unless traders have developed a comprehensive understanding of their mechanisms and risks involved.

How Profitable Traders Actually Use AI

Finally, Goh explains how effective traders harness AI to enhance their existing processes rather than replace their thinking. He mentions his product, Edge Flow, which acts as an AI-powered trading coach rather than a signal provider. This tool is aimed at fostering traders' skills in following structured processes and making better decisions rather than acting as an automated trading solution. He concludes by recommending that traders focus on using AI to support their discipline and accountability in trading.

0:00 Right now, everybody has access to the same AI. So, why isn't everybody profitable? We can all use the same Chat GPT, analyze the same charts, build trading strategies in a few seconds, you know, backtest different ideas, and access more trading knowledge than ever before. But, why isn't people getting better at trading? Why isn't people becoming more profitable? Like, if AI is really the answer, why are most traders still losing money? Well, it's because AI is not the answer. It was never the edge, and it never will be the edge. So, in this video, I'm going to make the case for why AI probably won't make you profitable in 2026. And by the way, I say this as someone

0:46 who uses AI almost every single day and is literally building an AI-powered trading app. So, I have absolutely no benefit whatsoever in telling you that AI is useless or that you shouldn't use it. If anything, I have every single incentive to tell you the opposite. So, before I make the case against AI, I actually want to do the opposite. Let's talk about why AI is insanely powerful for trading. Right? So, back when I started trading 70 years ago, if I wanted to learn how to trade, I have to search the entire internet for information for, you know, courses, videos, Google forums, just so that I can find the right information. Right? I needed to go to libraries to go and look

1:33 through the different books so that I can learn how to actually identify uh candlestick patterns, how to read candlestick patterns, right? I would literally find biggest books like Forex Trading for Dummies and uh The Candlestick Bible, just so that I can really figure some sense out of the market. But, that has completely changed. Right? Now, what happens is that you can just go to a AI like a Chat GPT or Claude or whatever, ask anything you want and you will answer you like almost instantly, right? So, it pretty much lower the barrier of entry to trading, which means that now more people can access to more information faster. So, access to information has pretty much been democratized by AI. But, the one thing that hasn't been

2:18 democratized is skill, right? Because it's one thing to know the information and it's another thing to apply it. Right? Having access to information and knowing how to execute that information are two completely different things. That is a completely different ballgame to be able to execute the right information consistently. To me, I believe that profitability is not just about learning new stuff, but it's about not forgetting the truth, right? Not forgetting that you should be doing the right things like executing a trade plan, journaling, and just following your risk parameters. So, it's not just about knowing, it's about not forgetting. Like, everybody can learn what risk management or market structure is. Everybody can go to an AI right now

3:06 and ask it to build you a trading plan. But, when you are down, let's say $5,000 on your $10,000 account and you're staring at the charts and, you know, you are hesitating on whether you actually take that setup or not because it aligns with your trade plan, but you have also just lost $5,000. This is one of those instances where AI just can't help you whatsoever. AI cannot force you to follow your trading system. At the end of the day, you are still the person that is clicking the buy and sell button, right? So, you do need to have the courage to continue executing a trading system. Like, AI can tell you to execute the system, but if you don't have courage, if you don't have discipline, if you don't have consistency, nothing matters in trading.

3:53 That's why I always tell my students that trading isn't an exam, right? You don't get paid for knowing the most concepts. You You get paid for being the smartest student in the classroom. You get paid for repeatedly executing something with positive expectancy, right? Profits are rented from the market. And the rent is due every single day in the form of discipline. The moment you stop being disciplined, the moment you stop doing the right thing, that is where the moment the market will start to punish you. So, yes, AI can give you all the information, but at the end of the day, the market doesn't pay you for having information. It pays you for execution. It pays you for making the right decisions. So, speaking about information, let's

4:38 talk about why AI giving you information is actually bad. Now, you might be thinking, "What are you talking about, Brad? Like, now I can just go to AI and ask what is a liquidity sweep or what is a market structure, how to identify market structure, how to, you know, identify a supply and demand zones? I can just do that with AI right now without watching your YouTube videos, you know?" Now, listen. Here's why that's actually bad. Even though it's technically a good thing to have information, right? Nowadays, traders can just go to an AI and ask it for advice, right? And it can probably give you advice as much advice as you want, like unlimited amount of advice until your cloud credits or ChatGPT credits, whatever, runs out, okay? Now, the thing is, when you ask it for advice, when you ask it whether you should enter or not enter the trade, what tends to happen is

5:25 that it gives you 10 to 15 different reasons to enter and 10 other different reasons not to enter. So, what happens now is that you are more confused than you were before you actually ask ChatGPT for advice. Right? So, in that instance, more information actually create less clarity. When you are trying to skip the process by rushing to the AI to ask it to tell you when to buy and when to sell, what tends to happen is that it causes you to take longer than expected because now you have to question whether whatever the AI said is true. Now, you have to question whether you should actually enter or not enter the trade based on all the evidence, based on all the answers that ChatGPT has given you.

6:11 Right? So, you are actually worse off than before you actually ask AI stuff. So, this is what I call AI-induced analysis paralysis. Right? The reason why I call it AI-induced analysis paralysis is because that's really what it is. It gives you so much more information that doesn't actually help you out with your decision-making. In fact, it makes it worse because now you have to consider the different answers, the different versions of the answer before you can actually make a decision. So, now instead of having just one decision to make, now you have five 10 different decisions to make, which slows your trading. Right? And in trading, speed is key. Execution is key. The moment you sit there and you ponder

6:57 about what's the right answer, what's the right move like a freaking philosopher, the move has already happened. Right? Prices already jumped up by 100 pips, and you are sitting over there with your D in your pants. Right? Like just, you know, just like not knowing whether you should still enter right now because it's too late, or whether you should just stay out of the the the the the and you just freeze there [snorts] and you do nothing, and then you realize the move has actually happened in the exact manner you envision it to happen, but because you were too slow, because you were stuck in this AI-induced analysis paralysis, you did not enter for the trade. And as a result, you did not make the $5,000 that you were supposed to make. So, sometimes becoming profitable is not about adding more variables. It's not about, you know, finding the right

7:43 answer. It's about removing variables. It's about making a trading system as simple as possible because simplicity scales, complexity kills. Right? The more simple your edge is, the more easier it is for you to execute it consistently. One of our traders got funded and took home his first $1,815 payout while working a full-time job. His name is David. He runs his own medical practice and he also has a family at home. Just like many busy professionals, he was stretched thin between work and family and barely had a moment to himself. But, he still decided to give trading a shot with whatever time he could find. He started using my

8:29 mechanical trading system in his spare time and he eventually got funded and received his first 1.8k payout without quitting his job to trade full-time. And that's exactly why I want you to hear his story. When work and family already fill up your day, it's easy to keep putting your own goals last. Another month goes by [music] and the second income you've always wanted is still something you'll work on when things finally calm down. Now, my mechanical approach takes around 90 minutes a day to trade. It tells you exactly what to look for, which conditions must be there before you enter and and when to close the charts. That gives you a process to follow in a focused trading window without spending every spare moment hunting for a trade. So, from November

9:16 26th to the 28th, I'm going to be breaking down the foundations of that system at the Market Mechanics [music] Summit, my intensive three-day live trading bootcamp. This is the same system that helped me build a portfolio of over $10 million and I want you there with me. So, if you want to work towards building a second income from trading while keeping your job and still having time for your family, click on this video and grab your ticket. Now, another big no-no, another big downside of AI is that it just makes strategy hopping easier than ever. Bruce Lee famously said, "I fear not the man who knows a thousand kicks, but the man who practiced one kick a thousand times." It's the exact same thing in trading. It's not about understanding a thousand different strategies, it's

10:03 about defining that one profitable strategy and then refining it over time using data, using your experience. So, nowadays with AI, what happens is that you can ask it to create a strategy in seconds. You know, I've seen those videos where they actually try to use the AI to replicate one of the trading guru strategy and then they test it out, right? It's like, "Hey, just give me, you know, this trading guru strategy. Hey, just give me this other trading's guru strategy. Hey, let me try ICT strategy right now." You know, it's like you can just ask AI to create any strategy you want and it would do it in seconds. What do you think happens when you actually do that? Right? Do you just magically become profitable because now you have 10 different profitable strategies to execute? No, because what

10:49 tends to happen is that you execute one strategy, you take three losses in a row, and now you think that the strategy is flawed, you think that the strategy sucks, and now you prompt AI to improve that strategy. And then it does, and then it gives you another variation of the strategy, and then you take another loss, and you start complaining, and then now you actually ask AI to, you know, switch to a different strategy, build you another different indicator, or switch to like a completely different system. And you're stuck in this vicious cycle of, you know, continuously hopping from one strategy to the other strategy just because you incur a few losses. While you never actually stay with one methodology long enough for you to collect meaningful data, for you to actually get really proficient at

11:36 executing that strategy. So, what happens is that you build width, but not depth. When depth is what you need to actually become profitable at trading. It's like having that one proven strategy that you continuously refine over time. But, you cannot have that because you keep on jumping from one strategy to another strategy, and as a result, you keep on resetting your competence level back to zero. Right? So, you always start from square one. Just like in a video game, whenever you made a little bit of progress, and then you die, and then you respond. Now, you're back to square one. Right? Same thing right here. So, AI, it does remove the friction of changing strategies, but sometimes that friction is actually a good thing, right? It's actually there to protect you from yourself. It's not

12:22 about [snorts] understanding a thousand different strategies, it's about defining that one profitable strategy and then refining it over time using data, using your experience. Another thing is risk management, right? Like we all know how important risk management is in trading. AI cannot fix risk management. Now, that's the thing, right? AI is so good and powerful, which I love it. Once again, I love AI. That is so powerful that it can give you a strategy with a genuine statistical edge. Right? It can tell you that, "Hey, over a thousand trades, you should be risking 1% with like uh average RR of 1:3, and then you need to have to have like a 60% win rate

13:08 da da da da da da." It can give you that proven, robust risk management system. But, you can still lose money because you cannot follow it. And the most important thing is you cannot follow it consistently. Right? So, as a result, you risk 5% on a trade when you're only supposed to risk 1% because that's what the plan says. You revenge trade when you are supposed to stop trading for the day. You ignore your stop loss when you are supposed to protect your downside. Right? It's like you know what to do. AI already tell you what to do, but you still don't do it because of ego, because of emotions, because of fear, because of greed, because of doubts, right? And as a result, you just self-sabotage. All it takes is one emotional decision

13:55 to wipe out weeks of good execution. That is why I always say that a profitable strategy in the hands of an undisciplined trader can still create an unprofitable trader. Giving someone a profitable trading strategy is like giving someone an F1 car. The car is capable of winning races. You know, it has a lot of horsepower. It runs super duper fast. But, if you put an untrained driver behind the wheel, they're probably going to crash the car, right? It's like Avengers, right? Thor has this hammer thing. And if you give Thor's hammer to another hero, right, or a civilian, what happens to happen is that he he can't even carry

14:41 the hammer, much less wield right to defeat the enemies. But, Thor can, right, because Thor is worthy of the hammer, right? I know this is like a really simple analogy, but but you get the point, right? It's like it's not just about the strategy, it's about becoming the person that is worthy of executing that strategy, like Thor. I guess the main thing I'm trying to say is that AI can tell you to be patient, but it cannot be patient for you. It can tell you that you should control your emotions, you know, do your breath work, but it cannot control your emotions when you are in a drawdown. Eventually, you are still the one sitting in front [snorts] of the screen who has to make the decision, who decide whether you should buy or sell, or whether to stay out. You are still that

15:27 person who pretty much decide your trading results, because you are the one who's in control of everything. And a lot of traders nowadays have this delusion thinking that AI plus trading bot equal infinite money glitch. Oh, if I were to to just to find like the best trading money bot, I can just sit back, lay down on a beach, and just do nothing, and have it generate money for me, like infinite money glitch, right? Wrong. Because asking AI to give you a profitable strategy doesn't magically produce a sustainable edge in the market. What I basically mean by that is that, like I said at the start of this video, yes, AI can generate strategies, it can write code, it can find patterns, it can optimize parameters, it can backtest

16:12 ideas incredibly fast. But, at the end of the day, a backtest is not an edge. A back test is simply the AI testing a strategy based on historical price action. And you must understand that every moment in the market is unique, which means what tends to work in the past might not work again in the future. Like you can ask AI to test thousands of different combinations of your strategy until eventually it finds something that looks profitable historically. But the problem here is that you haven't discovered a strategy that works right now. You just discovered a strategy that perfectly fitted the past, right? That is proven to work in the past. And once you trade that same strategy on the live account, that is where you will see the market

16:58 conditions start changing, spread and slippage and commission costs exist to eat you out, and that beautiful equity curve will like 100% start falling apart. So, over time your edge that you have pretty much came up with with AI will start to disappear, or it will only work under very specific market conditions because you haven't earned it, right? You haven't actually, you know, developed that proven edge. You just copied it from the freaking AI. So, the important question isn't how smart is my AI. The important question you should be asking yourself is, do I actually have a repeatable edge, and do I understand why that edge should continue to exist? Because if the answer is no, then you don't have a proven strategy. You just have a strategy that might work here and

17:44 there due to good luck. And luck is not a proven trading strategy. Now, with that being said, I want to make it clear that I'm not against AI. Like I personally use it constantly. I use ChatGPT to help me out with my work. I use Claude to actually, you know, automate certain tasks, to remind me to do certain stuff, right? So, I'm not against AI whatsoever. In fact, I love AI. Like I'm a big fan of AI, but I'm just not a big fan of using AI to replace your thinking, right? To replace your critical thinking skills. Because AI is really just fast food to your brain, right? Like that's all it is. It might feel good in the moment, but in the long run, it just doesn't benefit you whatsoever. It just causes you to not use the muscles in your brain. And

18:31 if you don't use those muscles, just like any muscles, it tends to erode over time, right? So, yes, use AI to help you out, right? Like use AI to analyze your journal entries and identify the patterns that you wouldn't notice yourself. Use it for backtesting, coding, you know, education, anything, and use it to basically accelerate feedback loops and just make your already existing process even better than it how it is right now. So, just like how calculators did not replace mathematicians, but make them more efficient, use AI to accelerate your process rather than a substitute for having a process. Use it to help you out with your thinking rather than replace your thinking. Now,

19:18 that's actually one of the reasons why we built Edge Flow. I didn't want it to build another trading bot that give you signals or tells you where to buy and where to sell, right? I also didn't want it to build a lame-ass trading journal. Inside Edge Flow, we have Flow AI, which is an AI trading coach, and Flow AI is trained on pretty much everything that I know about trading. Everything my coaches inside my mentorship program, The 1% Club, knows about trading. It's also trained on all our courses, all my coaching call recordings, all the educational content I put out here on YouTube and also in my course, all my tweets, all my frameworks, all my mental models, my risk management, my trading psychology strategy, all of it. So, when you're talking to AI, you're not just talking to some generic AI model that's

20:05 giving you generic trading advice. It literally thinks through trading the way that we do. It's almost like having me and my coaching team in your pocket whenever you need help. You can ask it about your trades, your mistakes, your execution, your psychology, your risk management, or simply a concept that you don't understand. And it can help you work through it based on the exact frameworks that we teach. I wanted to build something that actually helps you become a better trader. Something which actually allows you to do what you know you are supposed to do. But once again, like what I mentioned, Flow AI isn't there to replace you as the trader. It's there to coach you. It's there to help you improve. It's there to nudge you

20:50 back to the right path so that you can actually become profitable faster. Right? So, it doesn't help you press the buy and sell button. You still have to do that. But, it gives you the right advice. It ensure that you are on the right track to success. Edge Flow connects directly to your trading account, helps you set guardrails, journal, and review your trades, understand the trading performance, and actually hold yourself accountable to the process. Because the goal isn't to make AI trade for you. The goal is to use AI and technology to make you a better trader. So, if you're serious about becoming more disciplined, more consistent, and actually understanding what's holding you back from success, you can have try Edge Flow using the link below. Like I said, it's the most amazing thing I've ever built, right? I use it on a daily

21:36 basis. It's like having a trading coach, a trading journal, a risk management, and accountability partner and system all in one place. I literally do my pre-market, in-market, and post-market routine on there. I really believe it's the last trading app that you will ever need. So, yeah. Go and check that out. With that being said, if you want to learn how to build a proven trading strategy, feel free to check out my free Market Mechanics Mentorship playlist right here, where I pretty much walk you through exactly, step-by-step, how to become a profitable trader in 33 days, right? So, yeah. Go and check that out. And as always, remember you're just one trade away.
