Brief Summary

This video provides ten actionable tips for improving written communication with buyers on Fiverr. It emphasizes the importance of personalization, active engagement through questions, clarity, and emotional intelligence. The tips cover various aspects, from using names and avoiding typos to showing humility and offering apologies when necessary. The ultimate goal is to build stronger relationships with buyers, ensure smoother project execution, and foster a more positive and understanding environment.

  • Use personal touches like addressing people by name.
  • Engage buyers by asking questions and clarifying uncertainties.
  • Avoid demanding language and always be humble.
  • Use emojis to clarify the emotion behind your words.
  • Always be patient and understanding.

Call People by Their Names

Addressing buyers by their names personalizes the interaction, making them feel recognized and valued. Using names helps to create a connection beyond a transactional relationship. Avoid generic terms like "bro," "dude," "madam," or "sir," as they can come off as either too informal or overly formal. If a buyer hasn't provided their name, wait until you have it before using any form of address.

Ask a Lot of Questions

Asking questions is crucial for both pre-sale engagement and active order management. Before a sale, questions help to build the conversation and increase the likelihood of a purchase. During an active order, asking questions demonstrates genuine interest in the buyer's needs and ensures the project aligns with their vision. Questions show that you care about the project and are committed to delivering the best possible outcome.

Always Ask for Clarification

Seeking clarification on anything unclear, no matter how small, shows buyers that you are detail-oriented and committed to accuracy. This is especially important in fields like voice acting, where correct pronunciation is essential. Asking for clarification demonstrates care and attention to detail, assuring the buyer that you are invested in the project's success and their satisfaction.

Avoid Demanding Phrases

Avoid using language that comes across as demanding. Instead of directly ordering a buyer to do something, phrase requests politely. For example, use phrases like "Could you please kindly take a few moments" instead of "Fill this out now." Softening your requests with polite language makes the interaction more pleasant and encourages a more positive response from the buyer.

Avoid Typos and Use Emojis

Typos can confuse buyers and undermine your credibility as a professional seller. Use tools like Grammarly or other browser plugins to check your sentence structure and catch errors. Always proofread your messages at least twice before sending them. In addition to avoiding typos, use emojis to clarify the emotion behind your words. Emojis can help communicate tone and prevent misunderstandings, adding a personal touch to your messages.

Thank Your Buyers for Their Responses

Acknowledge and appreciate buyers who respond promptly and contribute to the project. Thanking them for their timely responses encourages continued engagement and reinforces the importance of their input. Let buyers know that their responsiveness directly impacts the quality of the finished product.

Tell Your Buyers What They Should Anticipate

Proactively inform buyers about what to expect throughout the project timeline. Answering their questions before they arise demonstrates excellent service and reduces anxiety. Provide updates on your progress and any potential delays, ensuring they feel informed and valued.

Be Humble

Maintain a humble attitude, even when dealing with buyers who may not have as much knowledge or experience as you do. Avoid arrogance and communicate with care and attention. Educate and guide buyers without making them feel inferior. Humility fosters better relationships and leads to more positive outcomes.

Apologize When Necessary

Take responsibility for your mistakes and apologize when necessary, even for small oversights. Apologizing shows humility and creates a path for reconciliation. Owning your errors builds trust and demonstrates your commitment to making things right.

Don't Judge

Avoid judging buyers based on their written communication. Recognize that people may be going through difficult situations that affect their communication style. Patience, humility, and grace can help you understand and support buyers, leading to better relationships and project outcomes.

0:00 hey what's up and welcome back to fiber talks everybody if you've ever wanted to improve your communication with buyers on the fiverr platform today's video is for you i'm going to give you my top 10 tips to help you become a better written communicator that's right today we're tackling written communication because fiverr is a platform that has made up almost 100 of written communication unless you've stumbled into the new business section of fiverr and had some zoom calls with people you're writing messages in a little block to people and that can be sometimes scary confusing misleading hard to judge people don't know what to do in that little box so today i'm gonna give you 10 tips these are my top 10 tips

0:45 to help you become a better written communicator hopefully you'll walk away with some ideas on how to communicate a little bit better and improve your written messages to your buyers and hopefully it'll help you with people that are potential buyers not just those that are already buyers or customers but they possibly could be so here is tip number one first and foremost call people by their names this is a great tactic if you're also in a physical conversation with someone repeat their name it makes them feel like you know who they are you're recognizing them you're seeing them it also helps you to remember their name but when you're writing in the fiverr platform the more often you say a person's name the more personal it feels it feels like you see them you hear them you're not just talking to a buyer you're not just talking to a customer or a thing

1:31 or a person out there you're talking to brian from seattle reference anything personal that they talk to you about it's it's interesting all the personal conversations i get into on the platform talking about people who have gone through loss talking about people who have lost jobs or they're building a business and it's been a struggle all of these things come through in written communication when you're personal so start by using people's names don't use little catchy phrases like bro dude madame sir those are far too formal or informal just use someone's name and if they didn't give you a name then don't address them with any kind of title wait till you get their name and then use that it makes it far more personal when you're writing communications the second tip is to ask a lot of questions no matter what you're

2:18 doing whether you're trying to get somebody to convert or you already have them as a customer ask a ton of questions when you're pre-sale questions actually help to build to the sale it leads the conversation on farther and the farther you can have a conversation with someone then the more likely they are to actually buy from you but once you have an active order from a customer ask questions make sure that it seems like and it's true that you are actually interested in what they want from your service you're interested in getting this right for them questions show you care you need to show your buyers that you actually care about their project you care about the work you're doing and questions are the way to do that the more questions you ask the better the end product will be and the more secure your buyer will feel along the way tip number three is to always ask for clarification on anything that's unclear as a

3:08 voice actor this is something i have to do all the time when it comes to pronouncing people's names you know how is your name pronounced the last thing you want to do is pronounce a client's name wrong whatever your skill whatever your industry whatever your service there is something that needs to be clarified along the way going the extra mile asking for clarification when anything a tiny thing is unclear will show the client the buyer the customer that you care and when you're writing people communication you want to make sure that your care for the situation comes through that it's personal but it also shows that you care deeply about what you're doing and about the outcome for them because that's truly what they care about now i know we've only gone over three of ten but i thought we'd stop right here and ask you if you had any tips for written communication leave your comment down below this is our question of the day

3:54 what advice would you give to your fellow fiverr sellers on improving written communication maybe it's something in my list maybe it's something i left out leave us your comment down below so everyone can benefit from your wisdom and experience all right let's get back to our list tip number four avoid demanding phrases now i know many of you don't set out to demand things from your customers your clients your buyers whatever you call these people but sometimes the way we ask for things sometimes the way we write things comes across as demanding we have to make sure that what we say comes across as a request and not a demand so if you need to gather some materials get some more information say something to the effect of could you please kindly take a few moments and

4:39 check this out or fill this out or maybe return this information for me rather than saying fill this out you know just saying do this right now this is what i need that's demanding something short and to the point really sounds impersonal cold and harsh and customers are really thrown off by that so take a few minutes and if you need to ask for something if you need to request some information or get them to do something for you sugar coat it put it in a little bit of honey that attracts more flies and i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but i know it's true you definitely need to put a little sugar on there make sure you're not saying things like do this i need this right now make it soft ask like like you would ask your mother and people will respond with kindness item number five i'm actually going to give you two this is a bonus item i think this

5:29 is great first and foremost very important you avoid typos in all of your messages i know this isn't always possible i know some of you are typing on a laptop then you're on a desktop then you're on a phone and that's stupid autocomplete and my fat thumbs leads to typos sometimes but i would advise that you use some kind of plugin to help you avoid typos or notice things that are not correct in your sentence structure when you're typing messages even going back and writing or reading things two or three times to make sure that it's right it may take you a little bit longer but it will be worth its weight in gold when you're able to send a clear message a typo can often be very confusing for that reason i've been using a tool like grammarly no this is not sponsored yes i would be open to it grammarly if you'd like to sponsor the channel but

6:16 i've been using that plugin for my browser for a while it checks my sentence structure wherever i'm typing on the web and just giving me a little red underline when something doesn't seem right that way i can check it but i always try to read my messages back two times at least because not only can it be confusing but it can keep the buyer from thinking that you're actually a legitimate seller like they can't even type a sentence correctly how are they going to do this complicated project for me now the bonus part of number five is i think you should be using emojis now this is something i thought for many many many many many years until just about a year or maybe two ago i started using emojis to help communicate my emotion through written text so in the same way that typos can be confusing emojis can clarify your mood it can clarify the way you're saying

7:02 something so if you're trying to say something with a bit of a chuckle you can say it or type it and then put a smiley face emoji or excited happy emojis you know when things are going great and you want to communicate celebration whatever you're using use emojis to communicate the emotion of your words because sometimes written words themselves don't come across with the right emotion you need an indicator to tell your reader hey here's what i'm really trying to say here's the emotion behind what i'm saying so avoid typos but use emojis because they can help communicate more clearly and with more personal emotion all right how about tip number six getting into the second hand there tip number six is thank your buyers for their responses now this is one that many people never do they always forget they don't even think about it they think this buyer

7:52 owes me a response but the truth is if you've worked on fiverr long enough you realize not every buyer responds people will come on the fiverr they will spend money and they will never talk to you everything you do with them will be like you know dragging a child out of bed on saturday morning they don't want to get up they don't want to come out buyers don't always respond in a timely manner so when you have a buyer who is timely who's on it who's responding who's contributing to the project thank them for that hey thank you for your prompt response thank you for getting back to me so quickly that makes my job so much better make sure that they know their responses are important to you and that it's going to make their project better because they're responding so quickly you want to encourage that throughout the duration of the project in fact this is why i send messages to my buyers at the beginning of the process letting them know that their response times to my messages

8:41 will affect the quality of the finished product the better response times the better information i get from them the more answers to questions i get the better it's going to be so when they actually respond thank them for their response hey before we finish this list today i just thought i'd pop in here and let you know that if you're liking this content the best way you can support the channel is by giving me a thumbs up and leaving me a comment down below okay let's get back to the list tip number seven you need to tell your buyers what they should anticipate as the project goes forward what you want to do is answer their questions before they ask them so when you're initially communicating with someone say in the next few days you can expect to hear from me with this or it's going to be a couple days before you hear from me you maybe won't hear from me for another week don't be worried i'm working on your project if you have questions

9:30 reach out but let them know what to expect in this process because if you simply respond to their questions when they have them they won't feel like you're serving them super well anticipate their questions get back to them and let them know what they can anticipate what the timeline looks like what your process looks like because the better you are at communicating those things the less worry your buyer will experience and the happier they'll be when they finally get to the end of the process and have that finished product in their hands tip number eight this is an important one be humble whatever you're doing i know it's difficult sometimes when you're dealing with buyers who don't know as much about this kind of work as you maybe you're a logo designer and you've designed thousands of logos and this buyer is trying to tell you how you should be doing it

10:16 and they don't really know what they're doing they're not a logo designer but you have to remain humble if you communicate with any kind of arrogance if you respond to messages as though i know everything and you as the buyer are stupid it comes through even in the slightest of written communication you have to maintain humility and and really talk to your buyers with care and attention you know put on that sugar put that honey out there you do not want to communicate aggressively and arrogantly you do not want to try to put a buyer in their place correct them or you know do anything but try to educate them help them along and and really help them understand the process a little better because if you're you fall out of that humility that humble attitude

11:02 it shows in your written communication and it is really frustrating for a buyer it will lead to bad reviews and it will lead to bad products so in general life lesson be humble because the humble are those who will advance because they're serving people well and their attitude and heart is right tip number nine we're almost there tip number nine is apologize when necessary this is a really important thing even if it's over something small even if it seems like it doesn't matter if you do something wrong if you don't fulfill a promise if you say i'll get back to you tomorrow and you don't actually get back to them tomorrow apologize you need to say i'm sorry i should have done that that way there's a path for reconciliation even on small things

11:47 because later if there's a big problem on your project you're going to need that humility and the ability to apologize in order to make things right not every project goes perfect not every project goes according to plan and eventually you're going to have to apologize to a buyer to a customer for screwing something up practice makes perfect so apologize when you need to don't apologize unnecessarily apologize when you need to to show the buyer that hey i don't know everything i feel like i'm really good at what i do i feel like i can do well for you on this project but when i mess up i'm going to say i'm sorry i'm going to own it because trust me buyers appreciate people who own their mistakes apologize and move forward in correcting them rather than people who are arrogant and can't ever admit that they were wrong about anything and tip number 10 i saved this one

12:38 for last because i think it's very important both in your written communication on fiverr and on life a lot of these cross up for life and written communication but tip number 10 is don't judge don't judge people and their written communication don't judge what kind of person they are based on a message they sent you you never know where people are at you never know what kind of day or week or month they had case in point i talked to a customer just today he placed an order he hadn't responded to me in seven days and i was a little bit concerned that we were going to fall behind so i simply sent him a message and said hey did you get my last message it's been a week since i've heard from you i really want to keep this on track for you could you get back to me as soon as possible and he came back very graciously and kindly and said hey i'm really sorry my mother

13:25 passed away a week ago and it was right when i placed this order i'm dealing with that and and i just haven't had time to think about anything else and of course that immediately changed my approach to the conversation we talked about extending the timeline so he didn't have to worry about this fiverr gig order that he had placed and he could spend more time with his family and grieving his mother's death and all these things and it was this extremely personal moment that he was going through but from my side all i saw was this jerk who placed an order and then hung me out the drive by never responding again if you're patient if you're humble if you're slow to judge you'll find out that people are going through real life situations on the other side of that fiber order and sometimes that affects the way they communicate i've had people come back and even

14:15 apologize and say you know what i was short with you i was judgy with you i jumped to conclusions i was mean i apologize for that because in a moment of anger and frustration about something else they sent me a nasty message so be slow to judge understand that people are going through real life out there just the way you would want them to understand as you're going through tough things in your life i think that will really help you to understand that you're not just dealing with orders you're not just dealing with customers you're dealing with humans people are messy this world is broken but they need a little patience they need a little humility from you they need a little grace sometimes to make sure that they get to the end of a project and it's my hope that these 10 tips will help you improve your written communication with your fiverr buyers and help
