  • Details the challenges of the first day, including physical strain and logistical issues.
  • Plans to adjust to the trail's demands over the next week.

Starting the Journey and Initial Rant

The creator is back on the PCT after a year and a half. He expresses his excitement about being back on the trail. Upon arriving at the terminus, he encountered members of the PCT Association who were checking permits. He was annoyed by their presence and behavior, feeling they were intrusive and inconsiderate as he tried to take a photo and have a personal moment before starting his hike.

Late Start and First Day Challenges

The creator had a late start, beginning his hike at 1:00 PM due to a broken buckle on his hip belt that required a trip to REI in San Diego to replace. He only planned to hike to Hower Creek, about 15.4 miles from the start. Despite being out of shape and carrying extra weight, he anticipates adjusting to the trail. The weather is hot, with temperatures in the 80s, but he appreciates the blooming flowers and the sense of nostalgia on the trail. He feels relieved to be back on the trail.

Dealing with the Heat and Water Scarcity

The creator is taking a break in the shade to escape the intense heat. He notes the importance of taking advantage of shade on the PCT, unlike the CDT where shade is scarce. He acknowledges the weight of his pack and anticipates needing about a week to readjust to carrying it. He plans to take more frequent breaks due to the heat and his late start. Water sources have been limited, but he expects to find another one soon and plans to hydrate and eat before continuing to Hower Creek.

Setting Up Camp and Reflecting on the Day

As light fades, the creator is setting up camp, which was a surprisingly challenging day. He hiked about 11.3 miles, short of his goal of reaching Hower Creek due to the lack of sunlight. He had to detour to a dirt road to find a pond for water, which he used to replenish his supply. The next morning, he plans to hike the remaining distance to Hower Creek, restock water, and continue on. He has enough food to reach Julian, about 77 miles from the terminus. His legs and quads are fatigued, which he attributes to being his first day back on the trail after a year and a half.

0:00 [Music] Back on trail, man. [ __ ] Holy balls. It's been a long year

0:47 and a half, man. But we are finally on the PCT. On trail again. Jesus Christ. Oh, I kept my sanity this past year and a half. Has been on me. But here we go, man. Second time on the PCT. Third time at the Mexico uh US border and away we go, man. Um well, let's start this video, this trail off good with a [ __ ] rant. How about that? Just left the terminus, right? Get up there. Why don't I have a moment, take my picture and have a little moment with you guys and all this [ __ ] And these two [ __ ] ass clowns from the PCT associations up there checking permits and [ __ ] Fine, whatever. Here's my permit. And they got a little booth and [ __ ] set up there. One of these ass clowns has a [ __ ] Santa hat on. And it's [ __ ] 80 goddamn degrees outside. And then I was sitting there trying to take a photo of myself and have a little moment there by

1:33 the terminus before I start and they're just gaggling away [ __ ] 5t from the goddamn terminus. Like let somebody is about to walk 2,650 [ __ ] miles. Have a little moment to themselves before as they start this journey, not listen to your [ __ ] dumbass tell me how to dig a cat hole and [ __ ] [ __ ] off with that. Anyh who, it's going to be a great [ __ ] day, man. [Music]

3:04 All right, now I got that rant out of the way. A few miles in, feeling much better. God damn it. Uh, so a little heads up on what's going on here. Got a late start today. I didn't leave till 1:00. Um because the airline when I checked my [ __ ] bag, apparently one of the uh male buckle on my hip belt fell off. It's probably on Southwest Airlines right now. So had to have one of the shuttle drivers make a run to San Diego for me to the REI, pick me up a new uh buckle for my pack. So we're good to go there. She didn't get back till like 12:45. I had to hoof my ass up to the terminus and touch that. So 1:00 start, but that's okay. Um, I only planned on going to the first campsite anyway. Same

3:49 place I camped at last time was uh, Hower Creek and that's 15.4 miles in. So, I mean, I push past. I hike two and a half, three miles an hour. Um, even with my filming and [ __ ] I can still get there way before the sun starts dipping down. God damn, I'm out of shape, man. Tried to get fat as [ __ ] before I came out here. Apparently it works cuz I'm holding another 10 extra pounds in my [ __ ] gut right now. Goddamn pizza and Nutella and ice cream. Can't help myself, but it'll come in handy when I start losing a bunch of weight on this trail. Anywh who, it's hot as balls out, man. It's probably 80 in the 80s right now. Flowers blooming. It's beautiful here in SoCal. A lot of just nostalgia here on this trail so far with like the onem marker road sign and

4:36 the three mile marker train tracks and all that [ __ ] comes right back to you. But since it's been so goddamn long since I've been on this trail, I'm sure a lot of it will seem new to me as well. So looking forward to it, man. I just a weight is off my [ __ ] shoulders. Even though I got a 40 lb [ __ ] pack, a weight is still off my shoulders. Not having to live in a goddamn town anymore. Feels [ __ ] good. [Music]

5:26 Hot balls out there, man. I had to find some shade in these bush tree here. Lovely. Just lovely. No [ __ ] rattle [ __ ] snakes trying to bite my dick off. So, that's good. Yeah. On the PCT. Take advantage of the shade, man. It's like the CDT where the buzzers just fly over your [ __ ] head waiting for you to die. At least you can tuck under some bushes and relax for a hot [ __ ] minute. There's a goddamn buzzard right there. Yeah, [ __ ] I'm cooling off. I ain't dying anytime soon. Yeah, feeling that weight, man. It's going to take me probably a week or so. This goddamn pack of my back to use to carrying this [ __ ] weight again, but whatever. I'm going to take more breaks than usual today just because I started at the heat of the [ __ ] day, high goddamn noon. So, cool off my body a little bit. Uh, water's been flowing.

6:12 Passed by two small creeks. First one was kind of a pool [ __ ] water scenario. Second one was flowing. Just bypassed that. I think there's another one coming up in about a mile and a half. So, I'll stop there and hydrate up. I got like half a liter left on me. So, we'll cool off a minute. Uh, and then get down to that water, maybe take another longer break in some shade, get some calories in me, and uh, we should be rolling into Hower Creek, I would guess, right around sunset, which is perfectly fine. Hopefully the last hour or so on trail today will be nice and cool. Um, breezy earlier, but now it's dead calm and that sun is just roasting my [ __ ] hockey ass. So, all right, [ __ ] We'll check in with you later. [Music]

7:22 Beep. Beep. [Music]

8:39 All right, mofos. We're losing light fast. I need to get my tent set up here, but I get all my [ __ ] inside of it. That was a surprisingly hard day. I think I'm just so [ __ ] out of shape with that heavy ass pack. Um it was a good six mile climb, you know, PCT grade, but there was a lot of gnarly switchbacks um to get up to this point. Once I got up top, I hugged the ridge line, found this tent spot. We're at about mile 11.3, I think. Didn't quite make it to Hower Creek, but ran out of sunlight. Um I did have to make a detour to go get water. Um I was getting roasted by that sun. went through more water than I thought I was going to. And the next water source is Hower Creek, but I came across a dirt road. Checked on the map on on Gut Hook. I'm going to say that. I don't give a [ __ ] Gut hook it is. Um, but I had to hook it down maybe 15 minute walk down

9:25 that dirt road. There was a pond. It was pretty gnarly water, but it was it was okay. So, I went and uh load up my capacity 5 liters there. Hooked it back up that dirt road and hauled my capacity here aside from what I drank on the way. But, we got water for camp. uh finish up the rest of this ridge line uh tomorrow morning and then it's basically four miles downhill to Hower Creek. Take a quick pit stop there. Load up on some water and we'll keep pushing on, man. Um from the terminus, it was uh 77 miles to Julian. I got plenty of food for that. So, no biggie. I got my feet uh my legs rocked today and my quads were shaking pretty good. But just to to be expected uh day number one just I haven't done this [ __ ] in a year and a half. So it's going to take take a good week to get my body readjusted carrying this [ __ ] weight. Anyhow, I'm babbling. My brain's

10:12 cooked by this [ __ ] sun. Today was a good day regardless. We'll holl at you [ __ ] in the morning. [Music]
