  • The hiker started his day at 7:15 a.m., aiming to reach Julian with plenty of food.
  • He took a break at Houser Creek to replenish water and planned to reach the malt shop at Lake Marina.
  • He enjoyed a siesta at Lake Marina Campground, taking advantage of free refreshments.
  • He adjusted his plans to stay at Boulder Creek Campground, which has water and amenities.

Starting the Day on the Trail

The hiker starts his second day on the trail, reflecting on the previous day's challenges, including a tough climb and a side trip to find water. Despite a late start the previous day, he managed to cover 11 miles. He outlines his plan for the day, which involves listening to his body, reaching Houser Creek (four miles downhill), and then tackling a significant climb. He acknowledges the misty conditions and the need to be cautious to avoid tripping.

Houser Creek Break and the Climb Ahead

After a quick 20-minute break at Houser Creek to grab water, the hiker is eager to continue before the heat intensifies. He mentions a three and a half mile climb ahead, with the goal of reaching the malt shop at Lake Marina around lunchtime. He plans to dry out his tent and enjoy some Nutella there.

Lake Marina Campground Stop

The hiker takes an hour-long break at Lake Marina Campground, skipping the malt shop to consume the food he already has. He appreciates the free refreshments available at the campground, including sodas and Gatorade. Refreshed from the break, he notes the challenging switchbacks of the morning's climb. He plans to collect water in four miles and aims to reach Cooper Campground, about six miles from the marina, which would bring his total mileage for the day to around 14 miles.

Reaching Boulder Creek Campground

The hiker stops under a bridge by a creek to hydrate and cool off before pushing on to Boulder Creek Campground. He recalls the water being deeper during his last visit. With only two or three miles remaining and the time at 3:40 p.m., he plans to take his time reaching the campground. He mentions that after Boulder Creek, the trail climbs for about 15 miles, and he prefers not to carry excessive water weight up the mountain.

Day Two Wrap-Up at Boulder Creek

The hiker concludes day two at Boulder Creek Campground, reflecting on the day's success compared to the previous day. He attributes his better experience to starting early and taking more breaks. He notes the five-dollar camping fee but appreciates the available amenities, including portable water, a spigot, and bathroom facilities. Despite the crowd, he is content with his progress and looks forward to enjoying ramen and Nutella for dinner. He also mentions a new hot sauce he acquired in San Diego.

0:00 [Music] Good morning, you [ __ ] sunshines.

0:46 [Music] All right. Good morning, mofos. Back on trail, man. [ __ ] Pretty decent camp spot last night. There's probably room for 10 tents over here. Hung out in these boulders. There's quite a crowd. I mean,

1:32 out of Campo yesterday, there's probably 20 people starting. Um, I was probably the last one here cuz I didn't start till 1:00 p.m. yesterday. Kind of screwed myself cuz I was pushing probably harder than I should have on, you know, not conditioned legs. But, um, yeah, that climb yesterday kicked my [ __ ] ass. But, we made it up here. I had to take way more breaks. And then that like half hour side trip to water yesterday. I mean, it was necessary cuz I was actually hurting. I had still like uh almost a mile climb when I ran out of water. So, that last little stretch to that water source was rough, but we made it, man. Only managed to get 11, but I'll take that considering I got such a late start. Nice misty morning this morning. Should be nice and cool. Rolling out of here around 7:15. Um, plan for today. Not really a plan, man. Um, I got plenty of food to make it to

2:18 Julian no matter how much time it takes me. So, we're going to listen to my body. Uh we do have a hellacious climb later this afternoon. U we got to finish up getting to Hower Creek which is four miles. That's all downhill. So that should be lovely. It is kind of wet this morning. So uh hopefully I'll not snap my [ __ ] up tripping. So we'll take it slow. But um we'll do uh get down creek. I'll load up on water. Look at the water situation going forward. But looking at the map this morning, I think it's that whole climb. I mean, it's gradual, but it's like I think 10 miles close to 10 mile climb. So, uh we probably won't take care of all that today. We'll get as much of that climb out of the way as we can to find a good tent site with some water that's somewhat close by and we'll take it from there. I believe we are coming up on that malt shop. I do

3:05 remember that from last time I was here. Um I mean, I have so much damn damn food. I would much rather eat the food I have and make my pack a little lighter than uh gorging myself this early on a cheeseburger. But throughhiker mindset, man, the minute you see cheeseburgers, no matter how much time you've been on trail is always a tempting uh offer. So, we'll play that by here. We'll stop in that malt shop, maybe get a Diet Coke at least, and we'll take it from there, man. It's going to be a great great [ __ ] [Music] day. [Music]

3:57 Here we [Music] are. [Music] Hallelujah. [Music]

4:47 Here you go. All [Music] right. [Music] All right, mofos. Nice quick 20 minute break at Houseer Creek there. Grab some water. I don't want to sit too long. Two

5:35 reasons. I don't want my joints to lock up. And uh the clouds have burned off. It's going to get real [ __ ] hot soon. And we got about a three and a half mile climb out of here. Five miles, I think, will put us at that mold shop at Mar Lake Marina. So, long as this climb doesn't take me too [ __ ] long, should up there right around lunchtime, which should be nice, convenient. Dry out my tent and uh stuff some Nutella down my face. All right, we'll take this climb nice and slow. See [ __ ] at the top. [Music]

7:19 You can have coffee. Wow. All right, mofos. That was a nice little pickme up. I get the [ __ ] pack off my weary ass body for an hour. Um, they even bother going to the mulch shop. I've seen that [ __ ] before. I'm sure that'll happen a lot more on this trail. Stuff that I've already seen side trails and whatnot. I'll probably bypass. But the main reason is I have way too much goddamn food on me and I want to eat that and get my pack a little bit lighter. But so you saw that sign back there. There's some free [ __ ] here at the Lake Marina Campground. So they had some sodas, Gatorade, all that good [ __ ] chips and stuff. So, I helped myself to a couple Gatorade. So, thank you very much for that. That was lovely. Um, hour long siesta. Body's a little refreshed.

8:05 That climb this morning was kind of brutal. A [ __ ] ton of switchbacks, but man, that was a rough rough climb. Don't think it's too bad coming out of here. They're still going uphill, but looking at the map, uh, there's water in four. I'm hauling two liters out of here. I'll pick up water in four. And then there's Cooper. Goddamn roosters. Um, there's a Cooper Campground in six miles from here. I think I'm gonna shoot for that. That'll put me at like 14 for the day. So, um, it's still early. It's like 1:15. So, I'd like to get to camp a little bit early tonight, seeing how I showed up at [ __ ] sunset, uh, last night. I be able to relax in my tent, enjoy dinner in my tent tonight. So, all right, mofos. Let's get on down this

8:50 [ __ ] trail, man. [Music] I will let you [Music]

9:45 Yeah. Heat. [Music] All right, mofos under the bridge down by the creek walking on water. Man, last time I was here, I remember that water being a lot deeper. Waiting my feet in that [ __ ] It looks pretty murky, real shallow. So, it's enough to grab some water. Um, got some hella shade right here. And it's still early as [ __ ] It's 3:40. I think I only have maybe two or three more miles. So, uh, Boulder Creek Campground, that's where I plan on staying. After that campground, you're climbing for the next [ __ ] like 15 miles. There's a couple 10 spots

10:30 somewhat up the mountain, but I don't want to push that today because I'll be hauling water on my back. And I don't really [ __ ] feel like carrying five liters on my back anymore up goddamn mountains. So, we're going to sit here for a spell, get some calories in me, hydrate up, and uh cool my [ __ ] body off, and then we'll take our lazy ass uh time to uh Boulder Creek Campground, man. [Music]

11:29 All [Music] right. All right, mofos. That's a wrap on day number two. Today was a good day, man. A lot better than yesterday. Getting up early and starting when it was cool was nice. Um, I was able to take a hell of a lot more breaks yesterday and not have to push to get to a camp spot before dark. Um, that's the way it should be. Uh, here at uh, what

12:16 the [ __ ] is the name of this place? Um, drawing a blank. That that sun fries my brain. Anyhoo, it's five bucks to camp here, but whatever. They got portable water here, spigot, bathroom, and toilet paper, all that good [ __ ] There is a crowd here, but that's to be expected this early on in the trail. It's going to be like that for a while. By the way, this hot sauce right here is the [ __ ] Never had this before. Habanero homestyle uh sacha. Got that in San Diego with the [ __ ] Wally World. Any I'm going to stuff my face full of some ramen and Nutella. Edit some videos and we'll holl at you [ __ ] in the morning. Mine. [Music]
