0:00 so anyways welcome back to the digimon adventure 2020 discussion podcast it's called the baby flame podcast this is volume 10 i believe it is yeah i believe we just hit volume 10. yeah and so we just recorded these two in a row so like we're getting back on track hopefully and so we'll catch up with you guys after this after the series has ended probably so uh this is the end of the arc here we are the episode 50 is called finale even though there's more after it uh so let let's just get into these last five episodes of the the crystal millennium monarch episode 46 an eerie

0:46 sphere sephiroth uh sephiroth man suddenly appears tai chi and the others are trapped inside sephiroth there an arch enemy from the past appears before takaru and angemon so the the intro says tk and padamon are about to be put to the test and oh boy did they got put to the test it's an orb the orb swallows them yeah yeah and they're inside of it uh and it's got an eye and it's like the hollow chamber from star trek whatever that thing's called and it projects all of their past villains and enemies they've faced before and they got the beat out of them meanwhile the orbs trying to uh abduct commandomon and the other children who

1:33 are not inside of the orb so how do we how do we feel about this premise how do we feel about the orb i think the original it's gross but the inside's cool how it like duplicates like all the different digimon that it's like scanned i think it's crazy a little replica of them with their memories that's pretty cool this digimon i actually recognized its shape while i've been watching all of those educational religion youtube stuff and it's based off of this uh this esoteric like ancient mysticism uh i i think it's called kabbalah uh i don't know enough about it to explain what its significance to the digimon would be but i did recognize that while watching

2:20 these educational youtube videos so there's a little fun fact for you gmon is like constantly pulling like religious stuff from like everywhere yeah like everywhere yeah um and so inside they meet satan again how lanky he was yeah i like i liked how he was animated here like when he swings out of the crystal his spooky smile his spooky smile before he comes out that was so menacing yeah they made this is what i feel like he should have been when we met him the first time yeah it's like lanky like the smile he gets to talk too and we we finally learned that there is in fact a connection a direct connection between hanjimon and devi mon that they are like one in the same essentially

3:07 uh yeah and i i like i like the setup because a lot of the fight before beforehand is kind of um all of the kids going against the digimon that they've already faced and a lot of them are these like uh like i was talking about it earlier when we watched these episodes initially but are a lot of these like classic uh mashups like it's metal greymon versus metal tyranimon again and kabutari or alter kabuterimon and uh the the grey kawagamon whose name i can't remember yeah uh the big the other big beetle and then it's devimon and angemon which is like a mashup we haven't gotten yet uh and he tries to turn him to the dark side yeah yeah but hopefully saves the day he

3:53 starts i would also like to say very briefly um i was upset that cobutarimon didn't get a um uh evolution sequence but the other two did i was like that's not fair and he's like all right here he comes it's the bug guy and after the last batch of episodes yeah after the last batch of episodes i'm like i never really cared about him but this guy this guy's a g i like this guy and then they did him dirty in this episode so that made me sad i'm sorry because i i but you're right like i mean lilymon has like such a nice evolution sequence they have that one episode where uh he you know the the electric episode or they're going up the pillar that was that was sort of his episode uh plus they had the garbagemon episode

4:40 for him yeah but i just the other the fact that the other two got it and he did it like yeah like a nice evolution sequence like wow wow they really like mimi in this show like like pokemon lilyman had that excellent animation sequence they got the uh the other alternate evolution there's some speculation there's gonna be another alternate evolution for mimi uh because of like what the next episodes are about uh and so they just like her a lot but like all these other like characters are getting a little like pushed off in terms of them getting getting like spectacular moments to themselves but spectacular moments the the holy angelmon reveal where uh

5:27 angemon starts evolving into neo devimon with the eyes which is i feel like a callback this is nerding out it's a callback to the earlier flashback where he did evolves into the mega version the dark version with the batwings you guys remember that yeah and if i remember correctly this show's pulling a lot of story elements from digimon frontier i'm almost certain we meet evil angemon inside this exact digimon in digimon frontier really yeah i i'm almost certain if i remember correctly because this one this is one of the big digimon villains from digimon frontier which is where the the holy digimon story line comes from and petal german was another big digimon from that show uh so they're just bringing them all in

6:12 again but yeah i like the holy angelmon reveal with the you know the laser sword at the end it just slices them up and escapes afraid of him he's like a little afraid but he still knows oh yeah that like emotionally he's going to be okay and he's going to break that was good evil darkness so he just stands there he's like i'm gonna wait until you're ready to like fight this bad guy off because i know you can do it and then he's like you're right taco yeah i should have had more faith in myself devi tries to get him to kill takaru like angemani takes him over and he's like oh you will fall to darkness after the sin will crush you like me make you force like to kill your kid

6:57 but no we get a holy angemon instead who's pretty cool he's got the pope hat he's got laughs yeah he's got the hat it's going pretty good for him i don't know i always really liked him i i really like this i kind of thought this was going to happen this episode just and like because it just made sense like it's about time for you know for him for holy angel holy angemon i know him as magna or mag yeah that's the english name is magna and german a lot of the uh holy digimon have different names in english just to like kind of avoid that like holy drummond who we meet in a couple episodes is magnetroman okay uh and then godramon is gold drummond in the english one yeah yeah uh so they they did i mean they just kind of want to avoid the direct religious comparisons

7:44 yeah sure why not yeah like when if they ever do an english dub gagaman's not going to be crucified he'll be on a big slab of rock if that like yeah or he'll be tied up i think tied up would probably be the easiest way to cover it up yeah but this episode was good i think just because um so like last time angelmon you know faced debby mon he essentially lost because he was captured right and then yeah tucker has to go and find him and then this time you know he almost loses again but he wins because of tk and it shows to me and it's very obvious that like that you know padaman and jamon whatever they need takuru as much as takro needs him yeah in the digital world and it really shows that you know it's not like super one-sided

8:31 of like a relationship and i just and i just like that kind of refresher in my head because there's so many times where i'm like these are giant monsters and kids and they're like partners but really like the the monsters are doing that be lifting but then like there's these moments and i'm like no now we're absolutely wrong the kids are yelling them up yeah and i like that i just like the little reminder it's like the best dynamic of the show yeah it is and i just enjoy that yeah uh so i i just think overall it's a strong episode and also i think it's really it's an important piece leading into this finale because i think it reminds the audience that the two major villains beforehand devon and dark knightmon or technically the holy digimon yeah and it brings the the story together because another earlier thing is revealed in the

9:18 last episode of this arc that really ties it all together with a goo you know a nice gloom i also think it's nice to be reminded like oh they've fought so many things yes yeah and like it's a good like summary of the [ __ ] that we've done that we haven't thought about in all like almost a year now yeah yeah like neyman who's in episode five yeah right yeah and i like that moment a lot i love that moment with tai chi and agumon look at him and they're like pissed about it yeah they're like how dare you this is like and then also i like uh how it's just the four like the four of them and then a rochi a rochi mon comes out oh the big snake guy and so them just sort of uh there's a

10:05 moment towards the end of the uh there's a moment towards the end of the original show where they come back to the digital world after having gone to the real world and it's the last arc of the show and they meet a digimon who they meet met in episode two again and that was the first time you saw augumon evolve to greymon but they're able to defeat him as the like all their little versions yeah and so it's like this moment where you're like seeing how much they've grown and like over the course of the series and how like their smallest weakest form or their standard forms can now defeat this character and i feel like that orochi orochimon returned specifically was sort of that like look you know yeah right before you're going into this final note yeah the bad

10:53 the big bad uh so any other thoughts um i just really like the visual of takroo next to holy angel just yeah like like them together is just like i just like it like visually like the way it was drawn in this episode i just really liked it the drawing in general like of deviant and and and like andromeda yeah really good there's one shot where devon's like beating the [ __ ] out of him when it's like 20 of them yeah like all on angebond and you just hear like like the little cartoon punch sound effect uh but i loved that sequence with deviamon and anjamon yeah like between the flashbacks the ex the reveal and then i love the ending when like devi man's almost amused at

11:39 holy and he's been like absorbed back into holy angemon and he's amused at his prospect that like humans are what's going to bring like i guess peace to the digital world or the best results for the digital world and he kind of laughs and he's almost like i don't know if it brings to me it brings it close to that old friend line that they keep saying yeah yeah yeah and he's almost like he's almost interested to see it happen uh it feels like at least he's curious yeah yeah maybe not in support of like but he he wants to see it you know like or would be interested to see it yeah he wants to see how it's going to unfold yeah all right so episode 47 uh i believe this episode is called villains of the wasteland i don't

12:24 have the episode titles uh let me oh [ __ ] i just spilled coffee uh i'm gonna go get a towel real quick yeah go for it take your time niko you have anime hair do i oh no nicole oh yeah i see it pumpkin what's the episode episode 47 the villains of the wastelands thank you joe and gomamon are separated and taken away by two groups of villains who are fighting over water tai chi and agumon go out to search for the two with the help of noemon uh the guardian of water no i'm on pretty cool guy i love this episode dude i did too i liked it a lot he's the bird but he carries the scarecrow around with him i just i'm a big fan of no heymon i don't know how to pronounce it yeah no i think i think it is no him on no heymon

13:11 whatever no i'm not i only wrote scarecrow so well he's a scarecrow so it would be yes heymon there's hay in scarecrows i'm going to go to sleep not nope come on yes yes hey mom and so tai chi and no him on go to get joe and dogumon goes to get gomamon uh and i like i like this it's been a while since we've had a dedicated tai chi episode it's been a while actually like he's been he's been featured in a lot of episodes so we haven't like not seen him but uh i i feel like you know this little uh like him surviving out and it got like a himself learning to survive out in the wilderness on his own kind of vibe to him like a

13:57 weird coming of age him shooting that arrow with no him on and like trying to rescue joe without aguaman all right yeah it's in this episode i think that's cute because ty is more capable and joe's always getting into wacky situations where he needs to get rescued to be fair to be fair this wasn't joe's fault it was just like gomula was like i smell water and it's like of course he wants to go to water like look at him it's go mom he wants his water and then and you know joe you know he's a good partner so he's like yeah man like like it's just like so unfortunate i think it's more like they're just unfortunate yeah like they're just so unlucky really i love i love both of the rescues

14:43 you know tai chi runs runs right into that guy and gets found out and then agumon's just like i'm going in yeah like oh my god that was so cute i love gomamon and aguman's fight to get out so cute yeah like mini drawings oh yeah the way they draw them in this episode not done all the way it's so good these shots are fantastic in this one for sure oh my god yeah dude when joe twisted his ankle i felt oh i felt that i felt oh yeah like oh my god making the situation worse for himself yeah and the enemies are funny too yeah yeah the enemy there's a lot of visual gags yeah there's the two they look like they're two giant uh dinosaurs but there's two little guys who are in charge of two bigger guys

15:29 yeah yeah yeah yeah he's like like in the mouth in the mouth constantly cutting off constantly and then there's slids on this man's tongue the little lizard with two legs gaussmann the boss yeah oh my god i am such a big fan of tyranimon i'm so glad yeah we finally got to see cute little tyrannomon in this is that big red augment it's uh yeah agamon can turn into tyrannomon but we've seen uh we've seen metal tyranimon and we've seen black tyranimon right but we haven't seen this little cutie yet like yeah he was a guy he just looks like big red agamon yeah he was a big uh tyrannomons on the package of the original digimon toys okay uh so he's like uh

16:16 like an enemy yeah like a mascot type character a lot of the time and i just i've just always been a fan of him like he just looks fun and like charming what a guy i mean i do like him too like let's i'm sending a picture so you all can look at him a little more oh [ __ ] hey yeah look at his little smile he's good yeah he is good uh and so we we finally got a grey mon tyranimon fight which is a you know they're they're buddies there yeah they're the ones that going on a journey together being motivated by their rivalries yeah uh and then i liked the ending too where tai chi helped no heymon

17:02 like become the new leader and get everyone united and yeah tyrandemon puts him on his head as like a sign that he is the leader hell yeah we also got a baby flame in this episode we did get a good beat we got a baby play it was a good one uh so overall pretty good episode and tai chi and joe come back to camp and everyone's like where have you guys been here's like we just went for a walk yeah cute yeah it's like a fun little side thing you know yeah i enjoyed it i loved it yeah there's also a moment i want to point out so because i want you to edit it in the the [ __ ] slap with his tail at the end oh my god yeah i'm not going to fall for that again team rock he said absolutely not but that to be showcased because that was historical yeah he just

17:48 yeted him the catalyst to the story is the fact that a well turned into a faucet yeah so like it's more of that the real world's like starting to clash yeah with the digital world which is uh an important thing going forward i suppose episode 48 this is like the final trilogy of episodes to end out the the ark the attack of mugendramon the chosen ones finally arrive at the sealed grounds of faga however the children must face mugen german the mega digimon with tremendous power so this is just like they get [ __ ] up the episode it's like uh yeah you can imagine how much i loved this one i yeah totally enjoyed it i did

18:35 it i was like the only thing that got me going was leomon leomon is the only thing yeah he's like noah's ark he's gathering all of the digimon they've met and no one else uh so all your friends are here like i rescued only people who recognized who you guys were when i showed them my picture i drew of you guys because liam is a great artist is what you don't know about liamon i believe it i think he's great at everything and so there they arrive at the grounds and vademon the big brain aliens who've been going like wow like like the claw they've been doing that the whole time uh they release turns out the orb guy was scanning all of their data

19:22 and he uh what's his name millennium on so many mon digimon to keep track of millennium mons like this guy's my favorite body i'm gonna go kick their ass while i grow my new body in this already pre-built body and it's the guy that uh akuman turned into earlier in the show he got angry except this time he's he's got the cannons on his back which he didn't have before because he had the laser tail though right yeah he did have the laser tail it's them vert like facing this and it ends up being a rematch between wargreymon and or not a rematch but i guess like uh like a dream fight scenario you know of of them fighting each other as the

20:07 strongest mega version of agumon uh yeah so any any thoughts on just the episode before we talk about the ending i didn't have a good time i did not have a good time i i like i know it's not good to talk about our notes but i wrote down like several times i was like i'm not i'm not into this episode i'm not excited i'm not i'm just and we know this because i've said it every time yeah i am just so exhausted by attack attack ping ping okay let's evolve attack attack ping ping okay again like i don't want this to happen over and over again for 10 minutes something else needs to happen to make something different yeah it felt like especially they didn't have a lot of new music in this episode yeah so in a way despite the fact that it was placed during a like heavy moment

20:54 in the show's plot it just felt like the same old same old exactly yeah and it's cool i mean like the most of the episode i thought the down and dirty ending fight with mugendramon and wargreymon yeah like the last like two minutes i i loved that yeah that was like when he like throws the claw and he loses it and he busts up the tail like if if it was just that like that was that was amazing you know and the animation quality was a little choppy it wasn't like the most fantastic thing but justin i loved the down and dirtiness of it and at the end when like they're both like decrepid and mugen dramaan has lost his arms and they just run at each other like i

21:41 like that ending bit it's so funny yeah it it it looks really cheesy and i think it did it did but like and like i said like the animation was like choppy like the way wargreymon like gets like the tail like the idea like the fluidity of like the idea of the movement is like really cool but like just because it reads yeah it reads it reads so i get it so like i think it's cool still you know it's something it's something that like when i'm thinking back on it talking about now it's like really cool yeah i was a little disappointed watching it initially especially because the episode where we seen you german earlier set such a high bar of what he should look like and you know uh it took it took arizona

22:26 a minute to recognize that it was the same digimon and uh that that's i recognized it because of the tale because the the cannons kind of like threw me off i was like that's a familiar face but he looks different than what we've seen before i'll be totally honest i was like did you know i didn't know i did not know until you just said it really they say it in the episode well it's uh i'll just tell you how much i was into this episode because i was there's a shot where uh tai chi and agamon don't realize it but yamado and gabumon do okay yeah they show them where you do that so i was like that's why i was kind of like oh is that the same one he looks a little different yeah it's uh it he does look different because that episode 24

23:12 which i'll always remember the the number because of this podcast uh but that animation quality was like that was jaw-dropping like that was the jaw-dropping episode yeah of this show thus far um and it was uh it's cool the concept's cool if you know the match-up like that it's supposed to be uh but you absolutely can miss it i mean it's been six months since that episode aired yeah uh and it doesn't look the same like the same thing no yeah but it's it's it's cool like conceptually and then i enjoyed the the bit where commando man like kind of like turns over on his side

23:57 because i kind of forgot that he had legs yeah yeah weird caterpillar yeah and then i was like oh his feet i guess the chase aspect the chase aspect with commandoman is probably why i like this one maybe better than some of the other big digimon let's fight it stuff yeah because there were about time for commando on everyone to like kind of yeah and like when when hickories like run the commando run like i like that a lot uh i just saw the like shadow of millennium on in it yeah i think it is millennium on i think that's kind of the implication that it's like red lightning was like really creepy it created like a weird ambiance because we're like so used to the black lightning and i was like oh god what is

24:44 this red lightning about and it's roars really scary sounding uh i mean overall it could have been a stronger episode yeah and then they blast off right they blast off at the end yeah they and then uh it goes into a self-destruct mode and tai chi goes up and dies the crying noises that hika remakes we're all like laughing so hard at that oh my god yeah yeah because i mean you know he's coming back so yeah it's just like uh but you know what like i feel the next episode makes it worth it i feel like it's it's one of those things where it's like okay we know that like he's dead and then it's like he's going to come back like i don't care about that what i care

25:30 about is like how are these characters going to react to what they believe is the death of somebody yeah and i i thought we'll talk about it next episode but uh i guess it makes it worth it i just want to hit on one thing another recycled thing they're doing uh in the the one with the show where they're all teenagers like in high school um this is like what happens before the ending of the show as well they all think tai chi dies so it's like just another dramatic plot beat that they're taking from something like another digimon show uh interesting it's just interesting seeing them like where they fit in to be fair uh this one did it a lot better than the digimon try did so so

26:15 it's good it's fine i don't mind if something's done twice again if it's better than the original time they did oh also machine german getting decapitated is just really satisfying like when the head falls on the ground yeah yeah but then it starts glitching out because it's ready to explode and that was yeah yeah oh and then as like choppy as it was when wargreymon does i forgot what his spinning moves called brave tornado brave tornado but like we've never heard the full rendition of uh break the chain in the show and i i think during this mach mudrun i think during this fight we actually hear the whole song or at least like a much larger portion of the song because we've heard my

27:02 [ __ ] years and uh uh but like to me like the song makes it like go by faster like how they write the song into it because they wait to play it they don't play it when they evolve they play it right during the last stand moment of it right it's not like a western vibe to it i feel like um truth be told i wish they waited just to like bring him out at the end and just had one really fantastic battle as opposed to yup everything else that leads up to it uh did you say who i said two yeah two battles god my arm is falling asleep oh and he gets the stat buff again i guess that's the last little little thing all right episode 49 tai chi's dead the god of evil millennium on

27:47 the children do not hear from tai chi and aguman who stayed behind to take on mugen german the children are in deep sorrow meanwhile millennium's millennium man's body is gradually being prepared for the resurrection so we get some creepy music at the beginning and we learned that millennium on is just the miasma like that that's the miasma itself has been like the leftover remnants of uh the goo and this is really cool and they kind of explain it a little bit but i want to break down the lore for you guys i actually had hinted that i thought this was going to happen much earlier so the digimon that like sephiroth sort of like mutating into to become the body is a digimon named chimeramon and chimeraman's parts are all of the

28:35 digimon are but made up of all of the digimon that were inside of of that when he was scanning and so it's kabu teriman and jamon guru ruman and devimon are like and i think did i say kabuterimon yeah i think so yeah yeah yeah and so uh you could definitely see cobutaramon in the body yeah it's like the head yeah the head's kind of the head's kind of that and uh let me let me show you what he really he like normally looks like because they they made them all white and if you see the original design you can see it a lot more oh also one that they never came across which is maybe why they didn't uh didn't do it is skull greymon who's the evil version of greymon in the original show yeah but that's what that's what he

29:20 normally looks like oh my god yeah yeah okay i thought that chimeramon would have made a much more interesting villain in this episode than hippogriffmon who's the little like turd that uh oh god that millennium on out while he's trying to regenerate so wait hold on so the whole premise to this episode it might be griffomann i don't know uh the whole premise of this episode is that uh half of them are injured and then sora uh koshero and yamado are all trying to prevent millennium on from resurrecting and so the big crystal is trying to combine with this body that has been formed with sephiroth mon the big circle from earlier who scanned

30:07 all this dna and so while they're trying so tai chi tells them to go ahead without them and they're all waiting for the digimon to heal up and it shuts out like a bunch of digimon that have no it's the vademon the vademon are shooting lasers yeah yeah it's like star wars and uh hippo griffman or griffoman or hippogriffman uh peter griffenmon uh is this is fighting uh metal guru ramon it's like an okay kind of kind of battle yeah it's uh but the more i think the more interesting there he is and then they fight and then it's something else like i think the real story of the episode is about

30:54 uh mimi and hickory right right yeah and then making that corsage for tai chi when he comes back and them trying and agamon yeah for tai chi and dog when they get back uh and sort of like them holding on to hope despite the fact that they're in their lowest moment you know this classic heroes uh journey kind of thing like the lowest moment before the end uh and then they beat him up and millennium on resurrects and he t poses over the whole digital world and it is the whole digital world because it turns out he's that big yeah yeah massive one claw yeah it's like a mountain tai chi comes back and they all get digitized and brought into a little

31:40 pocket dimension by millennium on so it's wargreymon yeah in his mouth so it's wargreymon verse millennium on to rescue the rest of the kids yeah uh but overall like for this episode um obviously the main focus is on like mimi and hickory i think that's the heart of the episode at least i if you're gonna watch it again it might be a lot more just to the battle stuff yeah but you know my my brain is like was focused on that more than right the fight obviously it was a good metal guru man fight at least i mean we got to see he looked better here than he did in his own episode that he came out in yes like we got to see him in action better uh which really hasn't happened with the mega

32:26 digimon too much yet like there hasn't been a wargreymon moment that's really impressed me like yet but maybe the next episode kind of changes that um and yeah i mean just that whole thing with commandamon showing them the flowers and them waiting for his return while they all sit by helpless is just a it's a they they did the heroes in their low moments plot beat really well i thought mimi's speech was really good yeah yeah mimi talking to hikari was just yeah talking about like well think about you know think like think about tai chi think about the memories like i'm gonna choose to believe in him i was just like i i love that and it's like it's through tears you know yeah both of them it's due

33:12 tears and like honestly really good voice acting performances yeah yeah oh my god like it's it's tai chi dying quote unquote who gives about like it's like i mean because he's not he's not dead yeah but like when i when i saw that happen i'm like oh my god it's going to rip your heart out to see her react to this yeah like her panicking yeah yeah like she she panics and uh she's kind of she's just a little kid she's yeah yeah she just quote unquote watched her brother get blown up yeah and she's like come on come on we gotta go we gotta go freshman that they use and like a lot of animes like they had her like sitting there it's like dark dark shadow yeah

33:58 but uh of course he comes back and wargreymon does the pose from the intro uh or is this the frame from the intro i i do i like how right before they get put in the pocket dimension they see the light like yeah yeah so they so they at least like know and then they're like okay yeah that kind of motivates what happens in the next the end ultimate holy battle tai chi and war agreement are back to take on the revived millennium on the rest of the chosen ones are trapped inside a prison chamber of time and space tai chi where greymon begin the decisive battle uh so i like that cloud continent is crashing at the beginning of this kind of like brings everything together

34:45 a little bit more almost literally yeah literally and then also it just helps you realize the scale of millennium bond no what do you think it just again i i'm so my brand is very strong any time in any sort of media anything when there's like a [ __ ] like massive enemy like the end of persona 5 like that that [ __ ] like cute i just i'm so tired oh what you doing like a 13 year old fighting god dude is this jrpg is it jrpg like when they came back when they showed um like the leomond squad on the or oh no i think it was the kids still i don't remember whoever is still on the on the floor

35:30 when his like [ __ ] foot is coming through the clouds or whatever that was just his foot i was like i hate this oh but is that scale shot the way that they used the scale yeah it's so great it's so good it's spectacularly good it's very effective because it may be pissed off so much it's but i i think i i think that the setup of what tai chi has to do kind of prevents me from feeling like this is just another mugendramon kind of fight right because he just has to break the orb like he's not going up against this thing he's not trying to attack it it's not wargreymon going like like biting him like a mosquito it's just this is like a mosquito yeah he is like young around and he does this
