Brief Summary

This video discusses the declining performance and professionalism in the WNBA, highlighting worsening statistics in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, increased turnovers, and fouls. It contrasts current performance metrics with those of previous years, particularly noting a decline since the introduction of high-profile rookies. The video also touches on the NBA's similar issues and the impact of these trends on viewership and the overall quality of basketball.

  • WNBA's field goal and three-point percentages are declining.
  • Turnovers and fouls are on the rise.
  • The league's performance is regressing despite the influx of new talent.
  • The WNBA is mirroring the NBA's failed model, affecting the quality of play and viewership.

Introduction: State of the WNBA

The speaker asserts that the WNBA is currently exhibiting a decline in quality and professionalism. Games are marred by poor shooting performances, exemplified by a recent match between the New York Liberty and the Golden State Valkyries, which the speaker felt was unwatchable on national television. The Connecticut Sun's inability to score even 60 points further illustrates the league's struggles. While some teams like the Liberty and Lynx are performing relatively well, overall, the league's performance is suffering.

Statistical Decline in the WNBA

The WNBA's overall field goal percentage is at 43.1%, a decrease from last season's 43.8%, with the best season being 2022 at nearly 45%. Three-point percentage is at its worst in league history, currently at 33.1%, down from 33.8% last season, with the best year being 2023 at 36%. The speaker suggests that the influx of rookies may have negatively impacted these statistics, as the best three-point percentage occurred before their arrival. The league is becoming a three-point-focused league, but the efficiency is lacking.

Professionalism and Performance

The speaker emphasizes that the WNBA, as the pinnacle of women's professional basketball, should showcase the highest level of skill and performance. However, current statistics indicate a decline, with the league's performance resembling amateur rather than professional basketball. The speaker suggests that players may be too focused on social media and other distractions, rather than perfecting their craft. The speaker points out that turnovers and fouls are up, while three-point and field goal percentages are down, indicating a regression in the quality of play.

NBA's Failed Model and Its Impact on WNBA

The speaker argues that the WNBA is mirroring the NBA's failed model, which is characterized by declining ratings, apathetic players, and a lack of fundamental skills. The NBA's focus on tall, lengthy players and constant switching has made the game boring and less sophisticated. The WNBA's decision to hire coaches from the G-League and NBA, along with the influence of AAU and college systems, has led to a decline in skill development. The speaker suggests that the emphasis on three-point shooting, influenced by players like Caitlyn Clark, will only exacerbate the problem.

Specific Skill Deficiencies

The speaker identifies specific skill deficiencies in the WNBA, including a lack of proficiency on the first and second levels, poor fundamentals, and a lack of go-to and counter moves in the paint. Players are not screening effectively to create open mid-range shots or opportunities at the rim, and there is a lack of emphasis on post play. Additionally, players are not practicing free throws enough, and they are prioritizing ball-handling and three-point shooting over facilitation and accurate passing, leading to increased turnovers.

Individual Player Performance and League Sustainability

The speaker notes that the league's inefficiency is a significant issue, with three-point percentage at 33% and field goal percentage at an all-time low. The performance of key players like Caitlyn Clark is also a concern, as her statistics, including turnovers and shooting percentages, are declining. The speaker compares Clark's performance to that of Angel Reese, highlighting that Reese has a better assist-to-turnover ratio and is averaging a double-double. The speaker questions the sustainability of the league's growth if both the overall performance and the performance of its star players are declining.

Conclusion: The Need for Change

The speaker concludes by reiterating that the WNBA is supposed to be the pinnacle of women's professional basketball, with consistent improvement in key performance indicators. However, the league's statistics are declining, and the performance of its star players is worsening. The speaker emphasizes that this situation is not sustainable and calls for significant changes to improve the quality of play and ensure the league's long-term success. The speaker highlights that the best three-point percentage was in 2023 (36%) and the best field goal percentage was in 2022 (almost 45%), underscoring the current regression.

1:10 All right, hold on. All right. So, the WNBA is getting worse and it's really unprofessional.

1:57 Last night was terrible shooting from both teams, the New York Liberty and the Golden State Valkyries. It was disgusting. It was embarrassing. And that game should have been buried on League Pass. A game like that should never be on national television or on a popular streaming app like Amazon. The Connecticut Sun game was terrible. They couldn't even crack 60 points. Um e even the Aces, they weren't playing much better either. Uh it was just bad basketball. We look at the Indiana Fever, terrible percentages. Now, the Fever as a team is shooting in a top five of of all teams in terms of total percentage, field goal percentage, but you know, individually

2:44 it's bad. And we get some really bad games from them from time to time. Same with Chicago. Really, every team outside of like the Liberty, the Lynx, you know, you could you could throw the Fever up in there. Um, those are kind of like included in the top five, but this is really bad. But it's actually worse. Uh even though it's marginally worse than last season, it's still not improving. It's actually regressing. Okay. So, right now, the league is at 43.1%. Last season, they were at 43.8%. And the best the best season for the WNBA was in 2022

3:32 in terms of total field goal percentage and that was around close to 45%. Okay, that was around almost around 45%. That was back in 2022. three-point percentage is the worst because the league has transitioned to becoming a three-point league. And that's the type of players they're putting into this league. Those are the type of coaches that they're hiring. Those are the type of systems that they have to turn this league into a a three a three and D league. That's what this league is becoming. But this is the worst percentage-wise I believe in WNBA history. Right now, this league is at 33

4:22 33%. 3-point percentage um 33.1. Last season, the league was at 33.8%. Okay, so right now the league is at 33. Last year, this is with all of these big boom of these rookies coming in. Last year was at 33.8, so it's down. Its best year was in 2023 when it was at 36%. So, it seems to me these rookies have hurt the league. That's what it looks like to me. These rookies have hurt the league because in 2023, pre-Caitlyn, pre- Angel, pre-Rakia, pre- Camila, pre Cameron, all of these

5:08 big-time rookies, including the rookies we have in this class. The best year in WNBA history for three-point percentage was the year none of these rookies was in the league and was the year none of these new fans start watching the WNBA. In 2023, the WNBA three-point percentage as a league was 36%. In 2022 was the league's best year in terms of total field goal percentage. That was that was its best year, and that was around 45%. So, the league is actually getting worse. It's becoming less professional. And why why am I highlighting this? Why am I putting the pro in brackets? Why am

5:54 I highlighting this? Because you're supposed to be Navy Seals of basketball, right? You're supposed to be the very best of the very best, but that's not what you're putting out there. Okay? That's not what you're showing. You're actually showing that you're some of the worst that we've ever seen. It doesn't look professional. It looks amateur. It looks unprofessional. This is what you do. You can get anyone from out of their home and put them in a WNBA uniform and they can shoot 33%. Collectively as a league, you could put

6:40 people who've who barely play basketball and put them on all 13 of these teams and they can get you close to 33% as a league. in total three-point percentage, they can get you 33%. Right? They can get you 43.1%. Like, none of that stuff is impressive. And so, it's actually embarrassing and it it's just exposing uh this league that they're just not doing enough. They're not doing enough. They're not training hard enough. They're not putting in enough reps. um they're they're occupied with other things like Tik Tok, um YouTube, other forms of social media, hanging out, uh being with different people. Like, their minds are not

7:28 focused on perfecting the craft. Like, I don't think you guys understand something. This is serious business. This isn't a joke. This is supposed to be professional women's basketball at its highest level. It's not supposed to get any higher than the WNBA, right? This is supposed to be the pinnacle of women's professional basketball is the WNBA. It's is it doesn't get any higher than the WNBA, right? So, how is it possible that the pinnacle of women's basketball is at its worst? This isn't pro basketball. This is amateur hour.

8:13 You're shooting in 2025 when Stephanie White lied and said the referees are getting worse, the WNBA is getting better. Well, she lied. She clearly lied. Turnovers are up, right? Fouls are up. Three-point percentages is at its worst it's ever been in WNBA history. Field goal percentage is at an is at an all-time low. The best field goal percentage in WNBA history was in 2022 when it was at close to 45%. Right now it's at 43. It's at 43.1%. So you're getting worse. The best threepoint percentage in WNBA history

9:00 was in 2023 pre Caitlyn Clark when it was at 36%. Now it's at 33 33%. It's getting worse. Turnovers are up. Fouls are up. The games look more and more sloppy. The defense sucks. It's not getting better. This is not professional women's basketball at its highest level. This isn't the pinnacle. This isn't the pinnacle. Okay? And that's that's my reason for this video. Everyone wants to talk about, you know, Angel Reese. And I love you, Angel Reese. Everyone wants to talk about Angel Reese. Everyone wants to talk about Canela. Everyone wants to

9:46 talk about Aaliyah Boston. Every Kelsey Mitchu, and I I got love for you. Everyone wants to talk about, you know, Caitlyn. Everyone wants to talk about the Valkyries. Everyone wants to talk about the Mercury. everyone in the Mercury isn't even in the top five this year for field goal percentage, three-point percentage, not field goal percentage. That's because they shoot too many threes. So, it hurts the field goal percentage. But that's part of the issue. You want to talk about the Mystics. You want to talk about the Atlanta Dream. We want to talk about these teams, but this isn't pro basketball because turnovers are up, fouls are up, three-point percentage is down, field goal percentage is down. Even free throw percentages isn't looking too good.

10:33 But that's what's going on in women's basketball, right? That's what's going on in the WNBA. And so, you know, you could you could make the argument that, and it it would be fair, you could say, well, it's because they're copying off of the NBA, which is true, which is why the NBA is a failed product right now. It's a failed product right now. Period. In the discussion. Uh, they've been losing ratings the last 5 years. They can't get anyone to watch really. People aren't aren't interested really in the NBA anymore. last night's draft because of that white dude Cooper flag is probably the only reason why people watched. Okay. And and because if he weren't in his draft, people a lot of people wouldn't even tuned in to see.

11:19 That's how bad the NBA has gotten because these guys are all multi-millionaires and they're apathetic. They just don't care. They don't give a lot of effort. Plus, the ticky tack calls. The players are unskilled. They lack fundamentals. It looks goofy because everyone is extremely tall. So it looks like they're playing at at an elementary school on those seven, eight foot rims. It looks ridiculous. It looks like a joke. Okay. And and so that that's the NBA. Everyone is really tall with this long wingspan. And the 10-ft rims is now the equivalent of a 8ft rim. It ju it looks like a joke. They need to lengthen the court from 94 feet to 100 ft because they're scaling 94 feet in no time because of these long

12:06 strides cuz everyone is like 69 and up. So it looks ridiculous on top of the turnovers, the poor free throw shooting, the poor three-point percentage, the poor field goal percentage, the lack of skill, the lack of fundamentals, getting away from the three levels and only using just two levels. And then the first level which is close to the rim, close shots, you lack skill, you lack footwork, you lack go-to and counter. You lack efficiency. Okay? And so it's just money ball copied off a baseball, shoot threes, and if you're going to take a two-point shot, make sure it's a layup, a dunk, and or you know, you do it in transition. Obviously, outside of

12:52 that, you might as well take a three because three is greater than two. Well, how do we stop this stuff, we need length, so get tall players. Uh, we don't like the run zone, so we're just going to switch everything. So, make sure you draft really tall, lengthy, rangy players, and we're just going to 99% of the time just switch everything. And so, it's boring. It's not It's not complex. It's not sophisticated. And so, the ratings are down. It looks like a joke. Oh, by the way, it looks like they're playing on the eight-foot rim because everyone is tall as hell. So, it kind of looks like they're cheating. It looks pathetic. That's why no one likes the dunk contest because the dunks don't look impressive because the guy dunking is 6' 10 or 6' 11. This is why they always love the 6' guys or the 6'5 guys

13:38 because the dunks just look better. And that's why the NBA is falling off on top of it's being loaded with foreigners and a bunch of one and done people who who just aren't skilled. So for whatever reason the WNBA wanted to copy that model. Let's hire a bunch of assistants from the GLeague and from the NBA. Let's and or let's let's be the WNBA is being stupid. Let's hire a bunch of people from college. Only one that's truly working out is called Smemesco. So, let's hire some people from college. Let's get a bunch of people from the G-League and from the NBA and let's bring them in here and let's bring what's failing the NBA to the WNBA while the AAU is failing these girls.

14:25 And then they get to college and these college coaches are failing them when they get to college because they also have turned into this pace and space type of BS. And so now you lack skill. And then you come to the WNBA and Kaitton Clark is trying to change everything by making everyone shoot logo three. So it's only going to get worse. It's only going to get worse. Okay. So that's the problem. You copied the NBA. It's a failed model. It's not sustainable long-term and it's it's hurting the WNBA right now. So, the three-point percentage in the WNBA is at an all-time low at 33%. Okay. The field goal percentage is at an all-time low at 43.1%.

15:13 Turnovers are up. Fouls are up. Free throw percentage is sus. This WNBA on top of the defense is piss poor. That's the WNBA, y'all. That's why it's a terrible product to watch. And if you cared about the WNBA, you would make videos about these things to put pressure on them to change, to put pressure on college to change, to put pressure on these coaches running these AAU teams to change. Okay? Right? You are supposed to be the Navy Seals. You are supposed to be the Navy Seals of basketball. That means the WNBA collectively as a team, as a league, the

16:00 threepoint percentage should be higher than what it was in 2023 when it was at 36%. It should be at 38 or 39%. Okay. Field goal percentage should be higher than what it was in 2022, which was at close to 45%. Field goal percentage should be at 46%. Turnovers should be down. Fouling should be down. Defense should be a lot better. Players should be more skilled on all three levels. The point guard play should be elite in terms of accuracy.

16:48 facilitating adjustments from coaches should be much better. It should truly be a chess match between chess masters. It should be more sophisticated, more efficient. And that's not what we're seeing in the Now, we used to see that. We used to see that in 2023. We used to see that in 2020. We used to see that in the WNBA. We're not see it's gotten worse. It's gotten worse. So, you can say injuries and Caitlyn Clark has helped grow the league in terms of attention. But what they didn't do was improve the league where it really matters, which is the meat and potatoes, the product on the court. That's where it really

17:35 matters. The engine. The engine is the product on the court, the onc court product. And since Caitlyn and Angel Reese and Rakia and Camila and all of these women have gotten into this league, these last two drafts, this draft and last year's draft, the league has gotten worse with the onc court product. It's worse than it's ever been in history. In history. Let me repeat myself. The best threepoint percentage as the league has had as a league was in 2023 pre Caitlyn and Angel Reese and it was at 36%. The best the league in terms of field goal percentage has had in its history was in 2022 when it was close to 45%.

18:25 The league has gotten worse and it's not going to get any better, you guys, because now they're going to keep drafting in these women who lack skill on all three levels and they're not efficient enough. So, and they're going to keep bringing in these coaches to run this fastpaced BS. So, there's going to be more threes and you're going to break more threes. Okay? It's that's just a fact. Women are less skilled in the first and second on the first and second level and so there's less efficiency. So that's going to hurt the field goal percentage. That's the problem. You're not skilled on the first level. You lack fundamentals. You lack skill.

19:10 You lack go-to moves. You lack counter moves in the paint. You're not skilled mid-range wise cuz you're not shooting enough mid-range shots. You don't have enough go-to mid-range moves to get the mid-range shot off. And you don't have enough counter moves to be able to attack the paint off of the mid-range if the mid-range isn't there or to be able to get you a more clearer mid-range shot. You're not screening enough to get players mid-range shots or to get players shots at the rim. You're screening mostly on outside of the perimeter for three-point. That's where most of the screens are coming from. Whether they're split screens or or flare screens, th this is what's going on. Or you're screening to get players

19:56 open shots in a corner or or at the right wing. And that's where the elevator screens are coming at. This is what's going on. So, we're not seeing enough screens for more open mid-range shots or more screens to get players more shots at the rim. We're not seeing guard play. Give it to the post. the post is posting up. Give it to the post and let the post player go to work. We're not seeing enough of that, right? And so because of that, you lack efficiency. So that hurts the field goal percentage. It hurts the field goal percentage. And that's that's what's going on. You're not practicing free throws enough at practice. That's why the free throw percentage isn't all that great. You're not practice, you're not practicing free

20:42 throws enough the way they used to do a women's basketball. That's why the free throw percentages aren't very good, right? You know, these women aren't focusing on being better facilitators, being more accurate. So, in the off season, they focus more on ball handling. They focus more on three-point shooting instead of being a better facilitator, being more efficient passing the basketball. And that's part of the problem. And that's why the turnovers are up, right? That's why they can't do post entry passes. That's part of the problem. That's part of the problem, right? Uh Caitlyn isn't helping it. She's not helping it. And in the last

21:29 four games, she's averaging seven turnovers, right? So yeah, if you include it. So, in the last four games, she's got 28 total turnovers. In the last four games, 28 total turnovers on average. That's what, seven turnovers a game. Her last four games. Her last game, she had eight. The game before that she had eight. Okay. It's bad. It's bad basketball, y'all. This bad basketball. And that's what's going on right now. This bad basketball. We're watching very bad basketball. This is horrible basketball. Um, so there's other things

22:17 to talk about than to constantly make videos about uh, you know, Ang Caitlyn versus Angel Ree or Cheryl Swoop said this or Joy Taylor said that. Um, you know, Lexi and Sophie. There's more to talk about, right? Because because listen, I don't care how popular you are, the ratings will go away. All of this will go away if the product is terrible to watch. That's why the Fever ratings, you know, if Kaitlyn keeps shooting like this, they're going to have to depend on traditional basketball to save the day with efficiency. It's going to have to be that, which means the ratings are going to fall off. they're still going to be good because people want to see her to see if she's gonna finally break

23:03 out of that slump, but if she doesn't break out of the slump, you you you will see the ratings just completely drop off, right? So, either you're going to fall in love with traditional basketball again if it's efficient or you're just going to stop watching altogether because the player who brought you to the WNBA is woefully underperforming. Okay? And it's like, I'm not watching this because I'm not a fan of basketball. I was just a fan of her. And she's not efficient. She's still in a slump. I'm not watching this crap. And so, you'll see the ratings fall off if Caitlyn is still in that funk if she's still struggling shooting and facilitating in terms of accuracy, you

23:49 know? So, don't bring up nine assists when she had eight turnovers. That's a piss poor turnover ratio, right? Don't bring up assists when she's averaging seven assists or LA seven turnovers her last four games. Don't bring that up. Don't bring up assists. Okay, when she's leading the league in turnovers per game, in total turnovers, this is going to be two years in a row where she's going to lead the league in total turnovers and turnovers per game. So your cash cow air quotes isn't getting better. She's getting worse. She's getting worse. Right now even up even points per game has dropped. She keeps this up. She's going to finish the

24:34 season averaging 16 a game. That's is that's a a big drop off from 19 last season. Right now she's shooting 28 29 28 or 29% from deep from field. Her field goal percentage is 38 or 39%. She's Angel Reese is 20 what? 20 27% from from deep and like 39 or something whatever percent from the field. So her and Caitlyn are almost mirroring each other with field goal percentage and three-point percentage. The deal with Angel Reese is that she has a better assist turnover ratio than Caitlyn. Like just think about this. And she's averaging a double double. Caitlyn was supposed to average a double double. Just think about this. I want you I want

25:19 this is how bad the WNBA has gotten. Okay? And this is how bad the cash cow has gotten. That her and Angel Reese field goal percentage and three-point percentage damn near mirror each other. They're in the 30s for field goal percentage. They're in the 20s for three-point percentage. Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark. Caitlyn Clark assist turnover ratio is piss poor compared to Andrew Reese's. Just I want you guys to seriously think about that. In the last seven games, Andrew Reese is shooting a higher field goal percentage than Caitlyn Clark. Just seriously consider that. And she's averaging a double double with a better assist to turnover ratio than Caitlyn Clark who's not averaging a double double with a piss poor field goal with

26:04 a piss poor assist to turnover ratio on top of being in the 20s with three-point percentage in the 30s with field goal percentage. Think about that. So, how is that sustainable if you're trying to bring in new viewers or keep the casual viewers hoping to turn them into hardcore fans? How's that supposed to work? These people clearly said, "I'm only watching the WNBA because of Caitlyn. Caitlyn brought me to women's basketball." Well, if Caitlyn is constantly terrible, these people are going to tune out because they don't like basketball. They just like Caitlyn, but they only like Caitlyn because she was making logo threes at 36% a clip. And so, and she was doing these crazy passes and she was getting like nine to 10 assists with only four

26:52 turnovers, whatever. Well, now she's getting seven turnovers a game her last four games. That's not sustainable. How does that help growth? Right. So, What we're seeing is that, you know, they they have an inefficiency issue. Okay. So, the league is at its worst. 33% three-point percentage. Last year with Caitlyn, they were at 33.8. Right now, they're at what? Um, they were at 33.1 or 33% a flat 33%. That's that's wild. Just think about that. So your cash cow has gotten worse and the league has

27:40 gotten worse. Okay? So that's not sustainable. That's not sustainable. Okay? It just isn't. It just isn't. It's not sustainable. You can't have the league and the cash cow at an all-time low at the same time. It's just it's it's it's not sustainable. Something has to change. The league has got to get better. The cash cow has got to get better. If the league is getting worse and the cash cow is getting worse, everything gets worse. Okay, so let me end this video, but let me say this for the people who just tuned in. You guys remember the WNBA is supposed to be the pinnacle of women's

28:25 professional basketball. These are supposed to be Navy Seals. This is what they do. Okay? Meaning three-point percentage should improve year-over-year. Field goal percentage should improve year-over-year. Turnover should go down should go down or stay steady at a at a respectable number at a respectable average. Free throw percentage is supposed to get better or stay steady at a positive percentage. Free fouls are supposed to stay steady at a respectable rate. Okay? or it's supposed to go down. That shows that you're a professional. That shows that you're a craftsman. That shows that you're a true pro league

29:12 and you're the pinnacle of professional women's basketball. You are the Navy Seals of women's basketball, right? The WNBA. But that's not true because the best season the WNBA has ever had on average with three-point percentage was in 2023. And this is pre Caitlyn Clark in 2023 when the league was at 36% as a league for three-point percentage. 36% in 2023. The best year the league has had with field goal percentage as a league was in 2022 when it was almost 45%. So, I want you to think about that. So, this year, the league is actually down marginally from last season when they

29:59 were at 43.8% field goal percentage. Now, they're at 43.1. Okay. The league is down from last season marginally. Okay. When it was at 33.8% 8% three-point percentage and right now it's I believe it's at a flat 33%. Okay. Last season in 2024 at least they were at what 34 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Maybe I got that wrong. I think I think in 2024 [Music] they were at 34% if I'm not mistaken and this year they

30:45 at 33.8 8 or last year they were at 33.8 and this year they're at a flat 33 but in 2023 they were at 36%. So that's just seriously consider that. Seriously consider that. That's where this thing is going. I mean this is this bad. And then your cash cow I didn't even mention turnovers are up. Right. So your cash cow Caitlyn Clark is shooting an all-time low. She's in the 20s for three-point percentage and she's in the 30s for field goal percentage and her her turnovers are up. Her turnovers are up. Okay. And her defense is even worse than what it was last season.

31:30 So that's not sustainable. That's just not sustainable at all. Wait a second. Hold on one second, you guys. Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. 33.8% the league shot in um 2024. Okay. 33.8. That's a significant drop off from 2023 when it was at 36%. And so this season it's at 33% a flat 33%. So I was right. I was like wait a second. I know I know I'm not wrong on that. So yeah that's that's where this thing is going. So yeah, man. This is uh this is uh this

32:15 pretty bad. It's pretty bad. So really, that's that's really what I got to say about it. Let me get up out of here. You guys take care. That's it.
