Intro

The video introduces a selection of apps to improve a visit to Rome, dividing them into must-have apps for practical purposes and fun apps for entertainment and unique experiences. One app combines a treasure hunt with a food experience. The presenter aims to provide high-quality content to enhance the viewer's time in Rome.

Google Maps

Google Maps is highlighted as an essential navigation tool for Rome, offering bus routes, taxi options, and scooter locations. It provides comprehensive directions, including bus stop locations, bus numbers, and walking routes to destinations. Despite Rome's complex street layout, Google Maps helps users navigate efficiently, minimizing errors and offering various transportation options like walking and subway routes.

FREENOW

FREENOW is presented as a popular taxi app in Rome, essential because hailing taxis on the street is not customary. The app allows users to order a taxi to their location, track its arrival, and pay either through the app or directly to the driver. FREENOW provides an estimated fare range and allows users to select the appropriate taxi size, which is useful for those with luggage.

Italo

Italo is introduced as a high-speed train app, often less expensive than Trenitalia, serving major cities like Naples, Florence, Milan, and Venice. The presenter recommends using the Italo app for booking high-speed rail tickets due to its potential cost savings and frequent service.

Trenitalia

The Trenitalia app is recommended for booking regional train tickets to smaller cities not serviced by Italo, such as Frascati, Tivoli, or Siena. Booking tickets through the app is more convenient and safer than using kiosks at Termini station, which are prone to pickpockets. The app streamlines the travel process, keeping tickets organized and reducing time spent in crowded stations.

TooGoodToGo

TooGoodToGo is described as a unique app that combines a treasure hunt with discounted food. It partners with restaurants, pastry shops, and grocery stores to offer surprise bags of surplus food at significantly reduced prices (e.g., €4-5). Users can purchase a "mystery bag" of food, pick it up within a specified time frame, and enjoy a substantial discount, making it a fun and economical way to discover new foods.

GetYourGuide

GetYourGuide is recommended for booking guided tours and activities in Rome. While not always necessary, guided tours can enhance the experience of visiting museums like the Vatican or the Coliseum. The app offers a variety of options, including cooking classes, and allows users to read reviews before booking.

The Fork

The Fork is presented as a restaurant reservation app that also offers reviews and discounts. The app provides savings of 20% to 50% on meals, making dining out more affordable and enjoyable. It allows users to explore different restaurants and take advantage of special offers.

Kamoot

Kamoot is introduced as a GPS navigation app that helps users explore Rome's sites without getting lost. The app provides step-by-step itineraries and information about each site along the way, such as historical facts about the Pantheon. Kamoot is free to use in Rome, offering crowdsourced information to guide and inform tourists as they navigate the city.

0:04 going to also throw in four fun have apps apps that are super fun and make your time in Rome a lot more fun of the must have apps there's one that I use almost every day and of the fun have apps there's one that I'm really excited to share with you because it is a lot of fun it's a treasure hunt it's a food experience it's an app and you're going to love it so stay tuned and uh if you're a subscriber of my channel you know I always try to bring you high quality content about Rome and this video is no different I'm excited to share these with you let's get started before we get to the fun apps I want to share with you four musthave apps at least in my opinion they will just make your life a lot easier in Rome the first app you probably already have in your phone is called Google Maps now there are other GPS apps you can you can download to help you in Rome

0:53 but because you already probably have the Google Maps I would just use that and what it is is it's a navigation system right you already know that right but in Rome it also gives you bus options so it'll tell you where the bus stop is what number of bus to get on to and then when you get off the bus how to walk to your destination it'll give you a taxi option so if you want you can click it it'll order taxi for you or it'll tell you where the scooters are at so you can take a little one of those little electric scooters around town it'll tell you you know where to pick one up and uh how far it'll take you long it will take you to ride those to your destination um you can walk there you could take the sub sub way it just gives you lots of options of how to get around the city um I use the app even though I know Rome very well it's a big city and the stets Do Not the streets do not run north south east and west they run in every which direction using

1:43 Google Maps minimizes my mistakes and gets me to my destination the most efficient way possible and uh this app will definitely come in handy for you so be sure to get Google Maps if you don't already have that on your phone get that app it will be used every day literally every day while you're in Rome that's the first one I've got three more great apps that I must have asked before we get on to the fun apps so the second app I'm going to share with you is also a transportation app it's an app to get taxis in Rome you just can't hail a taxi when you see a taxi driving down the road you cannot wave it down because they're on their way to pick somebody up or they already have somebody in the taxi with them so the way you get taxis in room is you go to a taxi station

2:28 the stations are scattered throughout Rome but as a tourist you may not know where the nearest station is so using the app FREENOW it's a very popular app in Rome for taxis it will you can order the taxi so that app already knows where you're at and the taxi will come to you and on the app you can actually see the taxi driving down the street as it approaches you you can pay directly on the app or you can pay the taxi driver directly now what's really cool about free now app is that it gives you a range of what you can expect to pay for the ride so you put in where you want to go it'll say it's going to cost you between 8 to 12 and if you're okay with that you click uh you know order taxi it'll also give you an option to you know to choose the size of Taxi let's say you have a lot of luggage and you need a van you don't want to have a little sedan coming up there's three of you and there's got a lot of luggage you're going to need to get a a larger taxi and

3:18 it allows you to do that so using the free now app can come in super handy even if you plan on taking public transportation you just never know when you might need a taxi and when you do need a taxi you need free now the next two apps I'm going to share with you are also Transportation now you notice there's a theme here it's all about getting around Rome and that is probably your biggest challenge when you visit Rome so this next app is a train app the first app is Ito it is the high-speed train app so whenever I take a high-speed train I always use Ito now you might be aware you can also choose the train Italia highspeed train it's called Fecciarosa they have highspeed rail trains as well but the Ito are typically less expensive and they run just

4:05 as frequently as the Trenitalia so I use the Ito app whenever I use uh whenever I need a train for High-Speed Rail now it does not serve every city but it does serve the majority of the you know larger cities Naples Florence Milan you know Venice you can take the Italo network of trains at a pretty good discount compared to the Trenitalia and I use the Italo app because that is the official app for the network itself the fourth app is also a transportation app it is the th Italia app and the reason I use the Trenitalia app also in conjunction with the Ito app there are several cities that Ito doesn't service a lot of the smaller cities if I want to head to Frascati or Tivoli or Siena I'm going to need to hop on a regional train which I can

4:54 book those on the Tranitalia app so for all the highspeed I use Italo for all the regular speed I use the tralia app and um the reason you want to order your tickets on the app opposed to at the kiosks in the stations it just makes it a lot more convenient number one and it's a lot safer because let's face it Termini station in Rome is not super safe I mean it's safe you're not going to get mugged but there are pickpockets and when you're at the kiosk you look like a tourist and you you're just susceptible because you're sitting on the machine trying to figure things out you're not really paying attention to your surroundings pickpockets know that and often times they strike right at these kiosks so I avoid them by using the app it just makes things go a lot smoother you you

5:40 you kind of look like you know what you're doing and then it's just all your apps and all your tickets are right on your phone super easy to use and and super convenient and you don't have to waste that time at the station uh standing in line so the apps do make traveling in Rome a lot easier from getting around Rome getting out of Rome or just having a good time in Rome speaking of good time I've got four must have not must have but fun have apps that I think are going to make your time in Rome super fun and that's what it's all about having a good time this app I'm going to talk about right now is probably one of my favorite new apps I found it's called Too Good To Go okay it's an app that combines treasure hunt with food and let me explain there's lots of food

6:28 that goes to waste right at these restaurants at the pastry shops and all over Rome and it's very popular so a lot of food gets thrown out at the end of the day or whatever so what they've done is they've kind of the app has kind of uh got a network of of places that are willing to give you a good discount you don't really know what you're getting it just tells you you're getting a a a um a small basket or a large basket or a medium basket and then you prepay like like in many cases like 4 $4.99 and you go to a area and it says you're going to pick it up between 3:00 and 4: in the afternoon and it tells you the size of of basket you're getting and then it it's like a surprise bag and then uh you just show up and they give you food and what's kind of interesting they use this for all for grocery stores like you can go on there and there's might be a grocery store

7:15 right right near where you're staying that if you show up tomorrow between 3:30 and 4: in the afternoon they give you a medium mystery bag of items for €4 now it's kind of fun because you really don't know what you're going to get and you get whatever you do get you get a substantial discount more than 50% off um they've got lots of Breads and pastries just all kinds of fun food restaurant food from grocery store food to you know just whatever you're looking for they have it it makes a lot of fun you got to give it a try while you're in room just you know you may not love what you get but often times you're not really spending that much anyways it's just three four 5 and again it's just it's kind of fun it's a it's a mystery you just figure out what you're

8:01 going to get when you show up and uh you show up with an appetite and if you don't like what you get you head to the pizzeria anyway tooGoodToGo is a super fun app so be sure you upload that and let me know what you think the second fun app I have for you is get your guide now if you're planning on doing like activities and uh you need to have a guide and a lot of things you can do on your own you don't always need a guide but there are certain things maybe you want to have a guide to a certain Museum whether it be the Vatican Museum or the Coliseum you want to get a guide to kind of show you around it just makes the experience a lot more meaningful so the app getou guide is where you want to go they've got cooking classes they've got tons of things to choose from you can read the reviews see if it's for you and you can order it right on the app super fun super

8:51 convenient and enjoy it the third fun app I have is called TheFork now you may have heard of this one maybe not but what it is it is a restaurant app it's a reservation app for restaurants now if it was just reservations it may not be that great but what it also is it's a review of all of the restaurants that are on the app and there's a section where you can click and get discounts and that's what I like I mean the discounts are pretty good 20% 30% even 50% off your Mill through theFork app and that makes dining out a lot more fun you can explore different restaurants you're going to get a little bit of savings and you know hey what's better than eating food in Italy right

9:37 enjoy the app use the fork I think you'll really enjoy it the last app I'm going to bring up is an app called kamut now you may have heard of Kamoot in some of my other videos it's an app that it's a GPS navigation app now nothing more frustrating than trying to see the sites and not knowing where to go or getting lost so this app and I'm going to put several itineraries in the in the description of this video it will take you through you know from step by step from site to site and you have the GPS guiding you so it just it's already it's kind of like preset and not just will it not just guide you to the locations it'll also give you a little bit of information about each of the sites along the way you know if you're in front of the Pantheon it'll tell you you know hey this is built this time this time and all the information you need to know and it does that with all the sites

10:26 it's a crowdsourced information so it's only reliable as the people that put it in but most people do try to put in information uh accurate at best they can and it's a super handy and fun app to use when navigating the city of Rome and here's the best part about Kamoot it is a free to use app in the city of Rome now there is a subscription to the app but in the city of Rome you can use it for free it's one of those cities that's a demo City so in Rome feel free to use the app and upload the maps super fun super easy it'll make your time and room a little bit funner I really hope you enjoyed this video and the apps that I shared with you I'm excited to hear what you think about them I think these apps have helped me a lot whether it's navigating the city or

11:11 just having a good time these apps are there for you to enjoy and use and they're free so upload them on your phone have a great time in Rome to the next one. alla prossima, ciao
