Charles Spencer's Media Engagement

The video begins with the narrator questioning Charles Spencer's motives behind his latest media sitdown, where he discusses his new book. The narrator perceives a sense of desperation from Spencer, who now claims that he doesn't need financial gain from this endeavor. Instead, he focuses on asserting that he is merely sharing facts. The discussion occurs during a New York town hall event, sponsored by a publishing company, indicating a level of media engagement that contradicts Spencer's alleged disdain for the press.

Tina Brown's Influence and Media Strategy

The narrator reflects on Tina Brown's career and her connections to high-profile magazines, asserting that her background as a celebrity journalist gives her certain influence over narratives. Brown's friendship with Princess Diana is noted, alongside Diana's adeptness at using the media for her own purposes. The narrator insinuates that Spencer's recent interview with Brown leads to a sanitized portrayal of events which fails to provide substantive insights into their interactions.

Deflection and Blame Toward the Media

Throughout the conversation, Charles Spencer appears to evade responsibility for the book’s outcomes by blaming the media for misinterpretations. The narrator points out that Spencer sold his book to the Daily Mail for a relatively low price, suggesting a calculated move to generate publicity. The discussion pays particular attention to how narratives are manufactured for different audiences in the UK and the U.S., with Spencer's blame shifting onto the press rather than accepting his role in the media's sensationalism.

William's Frustration and Family Dynamics

The video shifts focus to Prince William's discomfort with Spencer's actions, indicating he is upset by the resurfacing of memories regarding Diana's death. The narrator supports William's stance, suggesting he prefers not to be associated with the book at all. The lack of communication between Spencer and William about the book emerges, highlighting tensions in their family dynamics. The narrator questions the credibility of Spencer’s claims about who he communicated with regarding the book, illustrating further discontent within the royal family.

Legacy of Diana and Family Reflection

The discussion culminates in an exploration of how Diana’s legacy continues to impact her family, particularly William. The narrator expresses sympathy for William, who is forced to confront painful memories because of Spencer's publicity efforts. The video critiques Spencer's motivations while noting the emotional strain this ongoing narrative places on William and Harry, suggesting that Spencer is opportunistically reviving public interest in the royal family's past for his gain.

Final Thoughts on the Royal Narrative

The narrator emphasizes the conflicting narratives around Spencer's relationship with the royal family and the loyalty exhibited by William in this situation. They indicate that there is substantial evidence disputing Spencer's version of events, which paints him in a negative light. This conclusion suggests that William remains detached from the chaos that Spencer perpetuates while trying to protect the family's dignity and legacy amidst the ongoing media frenzy.

0:00 Let me tell you right now, chums, do not believe the hype behind this latest particular sitdown. [music] We're talking, of course, another conversation with another journalist. And this is fascinating when you think because you can actually sniff the desperation in my opinion now from Charles Spencer. It's all very well him coming up with this story about, oh, you know, I don't need the money. I'm just putting the facts out. All of that sort of stuff. this time around he decided to sit down in one of those town hall things backed by a book company in New York uh to discuss his book right Swanong all that sort of stuff what I find interesting is for these people that allegedly don't like the media boy when they have something that they really want to hammer home they're getting in there aren't they now Tina Brown I think I briefly met her

0:46 actually a couple of times you know came to fame when magazines were big you know when people bought them effectively right you know who buys them Now, I don't know about you, I don't. But the thing is, can't afford them, you know. I don't mind. No, I wouldn't even buy that now. I used to quite like a puzzler book. Yeah. Do you know what? No. It's terrible, isn't it? But they're good fun, aren't they? It's good to It keeps your brain going, I think. Right. If you're on a long journey or something like that, but even now they're so expensive, so you think, well, you know, make my own puzzle up. But what's interesting is, as I say, she was a sort of celebrity name around that era. You know, Vanity Fair, Vogue, L, Tatler, Harper's Bazaar, people. There were Bibles in the men's section. It was GQ, GQU, all that sort of stuff. And we felt like it was almost like the Starbucks

1:32 coffee cup of today, you know, oh, look, I've got this under my arm. That's how Tina became sort of famous. And of course, for her alleged friendship with the late Diana, Princess of Wales. And as I've told you on our show before, Diana utilized the media, right? Do not fall under this guise that, you know, come up with that, oh, we were such friends. She confided in everything. Diana confided in journalists that she wanted a story to get out there the narrative. I mean, recently came out that she referred to one particular tabloid newspaper editor over here as a jerk. And I would believe that not because of being negative against him, but because she kind of understood the media world long before social media. the value of these people was invaluable in putting her image out there. So it's interesting that particularly this woman

2:18 who according to my excellent source Prince William is shall we say to be polite indifferent about right well ultimately when you think about it suddenly now he's sitting down with her but what's also interesting about this particular story and this is the thing that as I often say on our show I love to share is simply this let me explain [snorts] morning good to have you back thank you so much for your time these sort of sit downs with authors. Oh, sorry. I have a lovely wave. Sorry. I've done these with authors, you know, and it's very difficult because if you look at who's backing them, you know, who's put in the funding up to get the room and all that sort of stuff, you can't really ask too many questions, you know. I I remember sitting uh with uh Dame Julie Andrews actually in a cinema. We

3:04 did a wonderful event together and she was just more revealing. You know, it was all about her early life with her mom and dad. I didn't need to pro but I knew the publishers didn't really like me veering off the stories in the book you know so consequently Tina Brown sits opposite Charles Spencer and everybody knows the stories he's going to reiterate right she tried one or two but you know what you were basically getting was a sanitized whitewash of what we've had now for the last two weeks and it's interesting have you noticed this with Charles Spencer he's suddenly blaming people about how for instance in England very like Harry that oh in England you know the book has been differently viewed uh well you sold it for under £10,000 to the Daily Mail they need to get their readership up Charles so yes

3:51 they are going to pick the best bits that they consider that can get the clickbaits but it was framed as it was totally different in America it wasn't so much the sensationalism but you know that that's what the mail went with it was your choice to sell it to the Daily Mail nobody forced you to do it you see how they just keep moving the blame. It's always the press's fault. Not defending the Daily Mail, but you know what I'm saying, chums. All was somebody else's fault. This is the playbook that Megan and Harry and now he of course, and this is why they get on so well. Behind the scenes, though, William is absolutely fizzing simply because, and a lot of people have missed this out because, you know, they don't want this narrative. I'm open about this. I'm a huge supporter of Katherine and William. I like the way they conduct their lives.

4:37 I like the what they the access they give us to their children. I think it's very warm. It's what I like about the monarchy. You know, I don't I there's certain things with his majesty. Yeah. Kind of annoys me. There are certain bits, but I respect him. I think he does a terrific job under the circumstances of his health and indeed his age. You know, you have to remember these things when people are being disrespectful. [snorts] So, obviously Charles Spencer has no problem being disrespectful to elders, right? I mean, it's interesting. And what's also sorry about that what's also interesting is the fact that you know they bypass his relationships himself and we all know the difficulties of the relationship that he had with his sister at the time of her sad demise. Likewise his last wife for instance will not give up the counter Spencer title

5:22 but that's just brushed aside of oh well you know I I can't imagine many people would want to walk in front of the coffin. you know, he's really bringing up raw emotions for I would suggest certainly William and no doubt at points Harry, but you know, two of the cloth. What's interesting though is this, and this is what I mean about how he skirts around the things that people haven't noticed. For instance, she says to him, and it's been mentioned before, did you contact the two, you know, um, William and Harry? What were their thoughts? Oh, well certainly. Yeah. Harry um um you know, yeah, he he he was yeah, he was we had a chat and yes, I had a William um well, you know, I can't recall exactly William's thoughts. There was no phone call. There was no contact. Now, you know, correct me if I'm wrong there,

6:09 Charles, but we all know that, right? There was a message to say there was a book out. If I'm wrong, come on. But, you know, there was nothing. Now, if this man can recall a conversation 29 years ago, you can certainly recall a conversation with your nephew, the future head to the throne, his royal highness, Prince William, about his thoughts on the book. Two reasons, and this is where I believe this is the case, is that William does not want to be referenced in the book in any shape or form. So, that has been met with a very much very thump down, right? You're not going to mention that you've even spoke about it. But again, correct me if I'm wrong. None of this rings true. What is really interesting is the fact that and you can see is that is the quote that I lifted out the timeline. Right?

6:54 So you can see that what's interesting is the fact that Harry's willing to go along with this but not publicly. You understand? So ultimately for this particular sitdown, it's a complete whitewash aimed literally again at the United States of America because he believes and obviously Diana was incredibly popular around the world, but not more so actually in the bosom of the United States. I put it down if I'm really honest to the fact that she was sensational on the dance floor with Travolta at the White House. An iconic memorable moment, right? Very iconic memorable moment. None of us forgot that. I'm sure you all remember it. Talked to John Travolta and myself about it. He couldn't believe his luck. And you know, you've got that. So for

7:40 Charles Spencer to literally say to you again, well, no, no, he doesn't recall this sort of stuff. And it was sort of whitewashed and wrapped up with the fact that, well, you know, this happened or that happened. I'm just putting the story out there. He denied also that he was being sued by the journalist who he well, you know, got it incredibly wrong inside this historian's book. Tina Brown again never questioned it, you know, sort of like and she's friends with this journalist, right? So, it's incredible. And he posted to her the documentation which is now online from his lawyers. So, she could have easily printed that out and said, "Well, I've got this here." You see the cozy world of how all of this works. And the only dark side to

8:26 this, and this is where I feel really sorry uh for Prince William, is the fact that, you know, he's dragged into this. It is memories of his mom. This is now going to go on for a long time. You've got the paperback whirling around. You know, how much more do they have to put up with? But they never anticipated somebody allegedly so close. And what's interesting is he gets around it again with this. When they say, "Well, you know, William and Harry, blah, blah, blah." He says, "Well, I'm just here if he needed me. Of course, he had a fully functioning father." If they were that keen to spend so much time with Charles Spencer at the mansion where his mother lived, Olthorp, where's all the memories of that? Where's all the pictures? Bulk or the lack of things in the book tells

9:12 you everything you really need to know. Now, as I often say on our show, chums, depending on which side you want to believe, if you believe that version of events and the cruel things that allegedly his majesty said, well, that's up to you. But there's a lot of evidence that says otherwise, and you can understand why William, in particular, has kept well back from this shambles. Neil Sha Kensington London
