Introduction

The video introduces the creation of ten new shortcuts using ChatGPT 4.0, which can run on all Apple devices due to the new Mac app. The shortcuts range from simple voice conversations to more complex tasks like summarizing articles, solving math equations from images, writing emails, brainstorming ideas, and creating social media posts. The video also features a massive shortcut for the Primary Technology podcast, which summarizes articles and brainstorms podcast titles and descriptions.

Voice Conversation

The first shortcut involves initiating a voice conversation with ChatGPT. This can be achieved by searching for the "chat GPT" action in shortcuts and adding it. The shortcut becomes more powerful when mapped to the action button on an iPhone. By assigning the voice chat GPT shortcut to the action button, users can hold the button to start a voice conversation with ChatGPT, receiving both spoken and text-based responses.

ChatGPT Text Prompt

The second shortcut allows users to create a text-based prompt for ChatGPT. By using the "ask chat GPT" action, users can set up a shortcut that prompts them to type in a question or request. The message is sent to ChatGPT, which provides a text response. The "start new chat" toggle allows users to select the model, including GPT 4.0. This enables users to quickly receive answers to text-based prompts directly on their devices.

Summarize Article GPT

This shortcut summarizes articles using the share sheet on an iPhone. It starts by accepting URLs or text from the share sheet. The "get details of article" action retrieves the body text from the shared URL. A custom prompt is used to instruct ChatGPT to summarize the article in 120 words or less. The summarized text is then displayed, and additional actions like copying to the clipboard or adding to a note can be included.

MathGPT by Photo

This shortcut, named MathGPT, solves math equations from images. Since shortcuts can't directly send images to ChatGPT, the Toolbox Pro action is used for OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to recognize text from the image. The recognized text is then passed to ChatGPT with a prompt to solve the math problem and provide the answer. The shortcut can be initiated from the share sheet when viewing an image, and the solution is displayed after processing.

Brainstorm GPT

The Brainstorm GPT shortcut helps users brainstorm ideas by dictating text. The shortcut starts by dictating text, allowing users to speak their ideas aloud. The prompt instructs ChatGPT to separate the ideas and provide potential titles for blog posts. ChatGPT then creates a new note in Apple Notes with the generated ideas and titles, using the current date as the title.

Write Email GPT

This shortcut assists in writing emails by converting minimal details into a more polished, ready-to-send email. The shortcut uses the "dictate text" action to capture the body of the email, including the recipient's name and key points. The prompt instructs ChatGPT to make the email more flowery and conversational. The shortcut then generates a composed email, which can be further refined and sent.

Social Post GPT

The Social Post GPT shortcut creates social media posts from website articles. When viewing an article in Safari, this shortcut, accessible via the share sheet, retrieves the body text of the article. It then instructs ChatGPT to create a social media post no more than 140 characters, without hashtags, and includes the URL to the article. The shortcut can also be configured to automatically post the tweet.

Word of the Day GPT

This shortcut provides the word of the day from Merriam-Webster and defines it using ChatGPT. The shortcut retrieves the content from the Merriam-Webster word of the day calendar and passes it to ChatGPT. The prompt asks ChatGPT to define the word and provide examples of how to use it in conversation. The result is then spoken aloud using the "speak text" action.

Summarize RSS Feed Items

This shortcut summarizes items from an RSS feed. It starts by getting multiple items from an RSS feed, such as the Apple Newsroom feed. The user can select multiple articles from a menu, and the shortcut then repeats an action for each selected article. It retrieves the body text of each article, summarizes it in 120 words or less using ChatGPT, and creates a note with the summaries and URLs.

Massive Podcast Shortcut

The final shortcut is a comprehensive tool for the Primary Technology podcast, designed to streamline the creation of show notes and episode descriptions. It begins by gathering URLs from a Safari tab group, formatting them, and adding affiliate text where necessary. The shortcut then splits the headlines, allows the user to select specific ones, and uses ChatGPT to write a 30-word podcast episode description and title. Finally, it formats all the information into a Bear note, ready for publication.

0:00 I'm going to help you create 10 powerful new shortcuts using chat GPT 40 and because of the new Mac app it means they can run on all your Apple devices we're going to start Easy by mapping the action button to a chat GPT voice conversation and then go deeper to summarizing articles using the share sheet on your iPhone have chat GPT solve a math equation from an image via a shortcut shortcuts to help you write emails brainstorm ideas and for number 10 I'm going to show you the massive shortcut I've built for primary technology podcast which will summarize articles brainstorm podcast titles descriptions and more once you download the chat GPT app on your iPhone iPad or Mac you now have access to shortcuts actions using chat GPT the first one we're going to do is super simple this is just starting a voice conversation with chat GPT you can search for this action here and you simply add this action links to download all of these

0:46 shortcuts will also be in the video description now I can run the shortcut just by pressing the play button but this gets more powerful when you map it to the action button on your iPhone let's go over to the action button settings shortcuts and we'll choose the voice chat GPT shortcut we just created created now if we want a more powerful Siri we can just hold the action button it'll start a voice conversation what's the average rainfall in the Amazon basin the Amazon basin receives an average annual rain and there we can quickly have a voice conversation and we get the answer in text as well all right number two let's just create a simple one that asks for text and that will be our prompt we'll search for chat GPT and use the ask chat GPT action I'm going to expand this menu and we're going to be doing this a lot for the future shortcuts but in the message I'm going to have it ask each time so it'll prompt us to type something I want to show it

1:32 when run so I can see the answer and we're going to start a new chat and once you toggle on start new chat that's where you can choose the model all the way up to GPT 40 let's hit done and now that shortcut is ready now when we tap it we can type in our prompt I'm actually going to use Siri to dictate it what were Winston Church Hill's Hobbies while he was prime minister and of course you could just type that if you'd like it's going to send it to chat GPT and then we're going to get a text response back and so you saw that response you can ask it to be a little more brief but gave us the answer so with these first two shortcuts we can do a voice conversation or text based prompt now let's get into more powerful shortcuts this is what I call summarize article GPT we're going to start by accepting URLs or text from the share sheet for the second action I did get details of article and I chose to get the body from whatever URL we just

2:18 shared then I have a text block here where I put in a custom prompt this is basically like making custom chat gpts in shortcuts I've asked her to summarize the following article in 120 words or less and then I add that variable the body text from the shortcut input then it's going to send that prompt via text to chat GPT 40 this is starting a new conversation and it's going to show us the result when run you can also add a quick look at the bottom if you would like or even a speak text and then it will tell you out loud the summary so let's go to a web page and see if it works let's say we're browsing an article like this one from 9 to5 Mac well I'm going to tap the share button and then here in the share sheet I'll see my summarized article GPT shortcut all I have to do is tap tap that hit always allow you'll see that the first time you ever do a new URL and now this

3:04 is basically going to summarize the text of this article in 120 words or less and then show me that result right here and now I can read a brief version of the article now you can add other actions like copying this to the clipboard or adding this to a note and I'm going to show you some more powerful news summary shortcuts in a moment but this way you can get a quick summary no matter how long the article just by tapping the share button remember links to all of these down in the video description this next shortcut actually called it m GPT Now shortcuts can't send an image file directly to the chat GPT action so instead I'm actually using this shortcuts action from Toolbox Pro this is an OCR option which will recognize text from an image so by starting from a share sheet action I can share an image Toolbox Pro will use OCR to recognize

3:49 that text I can tell it what language it is I keep these toggled on language errors and join text and then I have that passed into a prompt telling chat GPT I'm going to give it a math problem to solve and provide the answer for whatever text Toolbox Pro found in the image and then we're going to use the ask chat GPT action here at the bottom from this prompt so let me go over to my photos here let's say I've taken a picture of a math equation I'll hit the share button while I'm looking at this photo and then run my math GPT shortcut now it's sending it to Toolbox Pro it's using OCR to find the text in this image sending that to chat GPT telling it's a math problem to solve it and now I have the answer right here it recognize the equation perfectly walks me through it and tells me the solution is x = -2 now

4:36 depending on handwriting and how good Toolbox Pro can use OCR to recognize the math problem your mileage may vary but very cool way to solve math problems you also don't necessarily have to save it to your camera roll in order to run that shortcut to make sure this worked in more places I did a get images from the shortcut input and then appli the Toolbox Pro action to the get images action now when I run the math GPT shortcut on this I'll hit always allow and it walk me through the problem once again and I'll put this version of the shortcut with the get images action so it works everywhere down in the video description next I created a shortcut here I called brainstorm GPT once it runs this shortcut it's going to start dictating text so I can speak to it out loud and then I have this prompt the following are a few ideas I had for different blog posts separate those out give me potential titles to those blog

5:22 posts and then this is going to create a new note in Apple notes with GPT ideas and the current date as the title and then whatever Chad GPT gives back based on my ideas so let's try this out so I want to write a couple blog posts one is about the new iPad Pro I want to talk about the screen and editing podcasts on it and I want to link to my review in that one then I also want to write about the studio display it's been a long time I'm still pretty happy with it and you know maybe I'll just do kind of a long-term review on that and then I also want to talk about the Nintendo 64 Rumble pack because it's just right here in the video and how can we not talk about that so those are the three ideas I had for blog posts now the dictate text action you can have it automatically start processing after a pause but I made it so you can just

6:08 click stop when you're done talking this way it won't cut you off prematurely I'm going to tap always allow and here is the note it created based on that brainstorming idea here are the blog posts title one for the blog post and several bullet points that I had talked about blog post title 2 and Nostalgia for the Nintendo 64 Rumble pack with a few bullet points there as well so if you just want to talk for a while give it some ideas it'll dictate that text chat GPT will format it nicely and automatically create a new Apple note with those ideas I thought that was pretty cool this next one is if you need to write an email but you're just kind of tired of having to put all that flowery language or making it conversational so this is another dictate text and you'll see when you expand that you can choose the language and if you want it to stop listening after a tap or after a short pause or

6:54 long pause I typically do on tap this way it doesn't cut me off and the prompt I have here is what I'm about to dictate is the body of an email but it's the bare minimum details I'm going to say who it goes to but then I want it just to make it a little more flowery and ready to send as an email so I don't have to think about it too much so when I run this shortcut I need to send an email to Ashley about going to lunch on Thursday and while we're there talk about the new analysis project of website data and so that was just kind of my raw thoughts I don't have to want to think about composing it an email chat GPT is going to go through that make it an email for me and I specified whoever I'm sending the email to put that greeting up at the top chpt added I hope you're doing well looks like chpt is great at that corporate lingo and it created the email for me brought up the compose sheet for mail I can copy that

7:41 subject line and move it up there and I'm ready to go this will be great for also longer emails or just eases that cognitive load of writing those emails a little bit all right this next one is pretty fun I call it the social post GPT what this is going to do is when you're looking at a website in Safari this GPT will live in the share sheet it's going to get the body text of the article you're looking at so the full article and then it's going to create a post for social media no more than 140 characters make sure it's less than 140 characters don't put any hashtags and then formulate that into something I can post on social media I also have this getting the URL from whatever article I shared so the full post is going to be what chat GPT creates plus the URL to the article The Last Action I have here is to actually tweet it but you can put

8:26 copy to clipboard or put it into a note or whatever you would like so let's go to an article let's say we're on the Mac Rumors website and we're reading this article about a foldable display Macbook Pro well I'm going to hit the share button at the bottom scroll down and here I'm going to find my social post GPT when I run this shortcut it's going to get the full text of the article it's going to send it to chat GPT asking it for a social media post and automatically open a new tweet so here's the social media post link to the article and I can literally just hit post right there and I've shared a little bit about the article with the link now we're going to do something simil SAR with an RSS feed in a second but that's the social post GPT number eight I did this one just for fun I call it the word of day GPT so here at the top is the URL to Mariam Webster's word of the day calendar but it just really gives a simple definition so what I've

9:13 done here is actually getting the content of that article passing that into a prompt where I ask chat GPT to not only Define the word but also give me a couple ways I can use it I send that prompt to chat GPT using 40 and this time instead of having the text pop up I'm actually going to have it speak the result so I can just run this shortcut it's going to get the word of the day and then speak it to me the word of the day for May 23rd 2024 is panoply it is defined as an impressively large or diverse collection ideas for using panoply in conversation and that's going to give me a little more information about the word of the day if there's a website you check daily either with updates or news you can do something like this like getting the contents of that URL doing a little prompt and then formulating your own daily GPT all right number nine this is where we start

9:58 getting more advanced here I actually start with an RSS feed I'm going to use the Apple Newsroom RSS feed and I'm going to get 10 items from that feed from there I'm going to choose multiple items so a menu is going to come up I've chosen select multiple and now it's going to do a repeat action on every article I've chosen it's going to get the body of the text of that article and then it's going to summarize that article in 120 words or less using chat GPT create a little text block with the summary and the URL and then it's going to combine those results into a text block and create a note with that combined text now you can make this even more powerful with like different RSS feeds multiple if you would like but this is a great way to kind of get a quick summary of the news in a text format so let's say you're doing a daily podcast well you can basically get a

10:44 script for the Daily News using the shortcut let's run it you'll see the menu pop up this is showing me the last 10 items in Apple's Newsroom RSS feed let's say we do the accessibility features this gravity water and the new Apple music top 10 album we'll hit done it's going to get the full text of each article and send that to chat GPT with the prompt we stated that was the first one now it's doing the second and remember you can find links to all of these shortcuts down in the video description if you want to download and just run them on your device you also need to download the chat GPT app so make sure you have that and choose the model you would like by tapping that little arrow every time you use the ask chat GPT action and look how fast that was it automatically summarized those three Apple Newsroom articles we have a parir of text telling

11:30 us what it's about and the link to that article and you can combine this with things like the social post GPT if you want a social Post in summary of each article so really powerful now that is the basis for the final shortcut I want to show you which is my massive shortcut for primary technology by the way you should totally follow primary technology in your podcast app or on YouTube at youtube.com/ primary techow all those links are down in the description as well appreciate you listening or watching now if I go over to my primary Tech shortcuts I have this just called the primary Tech show notes this is always terrifying when shortcuts ask me to choose which one I want to do but I'm going to select the most recent one and hopefully nothing breaks so what I do with this shortcut is this is going to get a bunch of links I actually do this in Safari profiles and tab groups which I'll show you in a second but it gets a

12:15 bunch of URLs that I might have on a clipboard and then with each of those URLs it does a bunch of steps basically formatting those URLs by expanding them removing any reference UTM and depending on whether or not it's an Amazon URL and I want to add my affiliate text at the end of that URL or maybe it's a YouTube or Twitter or threads URL which I have different formatting for each because they all act a little different I have a bunch of if statements for all those kinds of links I combine those results and that becomes the links for the show notes in the podcast you can go to any one of our episodes and you'll see links to all of the show notes so those are the links to the Articles we talked about and then I keep this going then it's going to split the headlines I chose previously I can choose specific headlines and then it's going to write a

13:00 30w podcast episode description using chat GPT so it sends this text prompt to chat GPT giving me that description and then does it again so I can get a podcast episode title out of it and then I keep going I run another shortcut that formats the links for YouTube and then at the very bottom I have some boilerplate text that I put in every one of the episode descriptions like watch this podcast on YouTube join the community support the show and then finally formats that into a bare note so how I typically run this is I have a tab group for every episode and all of the tabs are things we talked about during the episode they might be articles they might be YouTube videos and right before I run this shortcut I click the three dots where it says the episode number and there's a copy links option this is

13:46 also an option you can also do this in Safari on your iPhone or iPad for instance I can change my Safari profile down here I'll go to the primary Tech profile from here I can see my tab groups here on the right so here's that episode 2 tab group I was just talking about and if I tap and hold on the name of that tab group it's not immediately noticeable but then I can choose copy links and that's going to copy all the URLs for all the web pages that I had in this tab group to my clipboard now I'll go over to my shortcut and hit play it's going to ask me a bunch of times to always allow depending on how many different websites I'm accessing for this week's episode notes but as you can see the shortcut is running what it's doing is actually formatting each URL depending on whether it's a YouTube video thread post or full-on article it's going to get the title of the

14:32 article and the URL and then format it via HTML and then I different shortcuts where I can take that HTML and make it rich text now it shows me this menu these are the headlines for the articles in that tab group and the prompt that's going to go to chat GPT for the podcast title and description will be based on the headlines that I choose here I'm going to choose the Sam Alman article from Jason a0 maybe this article about the Marvel Studios what if app and let's go with this copilot plus PC article I knew that was from The Verge I'll hit done now it's taking those headlines giving it to chat GPT and asking it to formulate a podcast title and description then the last part of the shortcut is actually to create a bare note with everything from the shortcut and this all happened automatically so I have a prospective title for the podcast which I usually massage a little bit but

15:18 that's there good starting place I have a description for this podcast episode and then I have all the show notes formatted here the normal watch on YouTube Community our links to social media and all of that and then at the bottom the links from the show all those URLs from my Safari tab group are now formatted via HTML so this is going to go right into the podcast show notes for listeners and viewers and that other shortcut you saw there is actually to format those links for YouTube because YouTube doesn't do HTML so I have the title of the article and the link for each one and this is what I'll copy and paste on the YouTube channel and then when you go to the actual podcast episode the show Nots you see here was directly formatted by that shortcut this is is all the boiler plate the social media links and then these links from the show which gets cut off in apple

16:04 podcast come on Apple podcast give us more text all of this was formatted in just a few seconds which allows me to make those Rich Show notes every time in just a few seconds so those are 10 powerful shortcuts with chat GPT and because you can download the chat GPT app on your Mac you actually get those shortcuts actions there as well so you can run it from the Mac menu bar or directly in the shortcuts for Mac it's great if you have any shortcuts that you'd like me to build I'm going to be doing another request video very soon soon so leave comments below this video I'm building your shortcuts custom every time it's a lot of fun don't forget to subscribe to the channel before you go and hit that like button and if you want to learn more about iPad Pro and see my recent review I'll put that video right up here and there's another video right here that YouTube thinks you'll really enjoy thanks for watching I'll catch you next time
