Brief Summary
This video reviews Digimon Seekers, a web novel released for the franchise's 25th anniversary. It highlights the standout character lugon, the limited number of new Digimon, the extensive lore and world-building, and the engaging storyline. The review also addresses the disappointment of the web novel format and the somewhat contradictory lore, ultimately concluding that Digimon Seekers is a good story within its own universe, despite its shortcomings.
- Lugon is a refreshing and iconic wolf Digimon.
- The story is rich in lore and world-building, providing answers to long-standing questions.
- The web novel format was a missed opportunity, limiting its reach.
The highlight of Digimon Seekers is lugon, a wolf Digimon whose design is iconic and refreshing. Lugon completes the trio of prototype Digimon with rudon and doron, all having the X anti-body interface. However, Seekers introduces a limited number of new Digimon, with many familiar faces like palmon, rudon, and doron taking prominent roles. While some existing Digimon, like the commandramon line, are used effectively, others who would fit perfectly, such as the crack team or clavis animon, are absent.
Digimon Seekers provides extensive lore and world-building, offering a lesson in Digimon history. It introduces professor ranji and his students as the first researchers to discover Digimon, name digx, form bonds with Digimon, and explore the digital world. The story explains mind linking and Digimon evolution, but the setting, with its mix of primitive networks and modern smartphones, creates a contradictory lore. To appreciate Seekers, it should be viewed as a separate universe, not a prequel to other Digimon stories.
The story of Digimon Seekers is a high point, presenting a perfect evolution of the original Digimon concept in a post-apocalyptic setting. The characters, particularly Ag and lugon, have an original bond, with lugon possessing an independent personality and Ag taking a submissive role. The narrative includes action, drama, friendship, betrayal, romance, and existential crises, distributed throughout the chapters. The ending, however, is disappointing, with professor reeni turning evil and a lack of a grand final battle.
The web novel format is a wasted potential, limiting the story's reach to hardcore fans due to decreasing attention spans and the commitment required to read 50 chapters. The English translation's initial quality also hindered the experience. Despite this, Digimon Seekers is good for what it is: a web novel within its own universe that answers questions and is easy to understand. While a movie series or game would have been preferred for the 25th anniversary, the reviewer still hopes for one in the future.

0:00 Digimon Seekers was announced in February last year as part of celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Digimon franchise many fans wanted a new anime or game but we got a web novel instead now that Seekers has ended we can look back sum up Impressions and give the final verdict did we like it or not was it enough to celebrate the anniversary and did it meet fan expectations in this video I give my views on the highs and lows of Digimon [Music] Seekers the highlight of Digimon Seekers is definitely good boy lugon it's very refreshing to see a main Digimon character that is not a dinosaur or a dragon lugon is a wolf that quickly became a favorite new Digimon among fans his design is Iconic and proves that the
0:45 franchise can still deliver iconic designs 25 years into its history lugon also completes the trio of prototype Digimon with rudon and doron all three having the X anti-body interface on their heads lon's Evolution line is consistent and versatile packed with history and mythology there is even a form that goes wild his ultimate form is not another humanoid robot but a fierce Beast an original and welcome change for a new main Digimon but there were not many new Digimon in Seekers It's too bad the number of new Digimon introduced with Seekers is so limited everyone important is a familiar face like palmon rudon and doron even the original Three researchers cost Saia and yulin are given seemingly random Partners black Agumon tenton and palmon other Digimon were brought into Seekers to serve the
1:31 purpose of the story for example we have the commandramon line as the digi police mugendramon as a villain omegamon as keeper of justice and so on but Seekers did give us another Evolution line for command Dramon introducing High command Dron cargo Dramon and Brigade Dramon there are some Digimon who would fit perfectly in this story but were not included like the story features sons of chaos who are called crackers but they don't use the crack team as their Digimon there is clavis animon whose profile says he is The Keeper of the gate between the digital and human worlds but in Seekers it is the Royal Knights who guard the gate Seekers didn't introduce many new Digimon but it did give us a lot of answers and it was packed with lore Digimon Seekers practically gave us a lesson in Digimon history we often read in Digimon profiles about researchers who discovered some new information about a
2:17 certain Digimon and we often wondered who those researchers were well in Digimon Seekers professor ranji and his students were among the first such researchers in the Digimon Seekers Universe they were the first to discover Digimon to name digx or digama to form a bond and communicate with Digimon to see the outer reaches of the digital world we also learned about mind linking and got a lot of explanations about Digimon and their evolution from Professor yenji these explanations and the time in which Seekers is set however contributes to a somewhat contradictory lore Seekers is set at the dawn of the digital world as the announcement read but everyone is using modern-day smartphones the story talks about primitive networks and slow speeds which would place the story in the time of the first computers and the rise of the internet but alongside this primitive technology characters are
3:04 using smartphones that look like iPhones and refer to Digimon as AI a term that has been made popular only recently Digimon and the digital world in Digimon Seekers have always been there and humans only discovered a way to access them this is contradictory to other Digimon stories like Tamer Where The Wild Bunch is credited to have created Digimon these creatures are also described as living beings not just data this comparison can go on forever and extend to other media but that's not the purpose of this video we could make sense of seeker's lore if we stop comparing it to our real world or to any other Digimon story and see it as a universe of its own not a prequel to any other story and in that department Seekers really delivered an excellent story if we disregarded the disappointing ending that is the story of Digimon Seekers is one of its highest
3:50 highs it's a perfect evolution of the original concept about Digimon and something we can relate to today set in a very post-apocalyptic atmosphere where technology plays a big role role in everyone's lives like in our world the characters who are adults this time rely on social media to communicate they even work online remotely Ag and lugon have a very original bond lugon is not just a regular Digimon partner he has a mind of his own and an independent personality he holds his ground and puts himself first he does not look to his Tamer to tell him what to do AG is also not a Tamer like those before him he doubts himself and is prone to dark thoughts he worships lugon putting himself in a submissive role to his Digimon Ag and laman's bond and character development could have easily been more generic for a web novel to save ideas for bigger
4:36 projects but writers really didn't hold back on creativity there are many genres in one in this story there is action and drama themes of friendship and betrayal romance between kosuke and Saia existential crisis of a who lost his parents and has to let go of Education to work and feed himself with no friends for support there are also many comic relief moments like when lugon disobeys Ag and tells him to do something himself when lugon asks katsuna on a date for a and talks about dating when lugon says he could make a his Minion or when AI gets numon poop on the head and so on all these elements of the story are so well distributed throughout chapters so the story takes you on a roller coaster revealing something new all the time and making you come up with theories and guessing who is who and what will happen next the final few chapters with
5:23 Professor reeni turning evil and the lack of a grand final battle are only saved by AG and Leon's friendship and the bonds with their Digimon I have to note that my Impressions with the story are only from the aspect of its narrative I'm not judging this web novel as a work of literature because I don't see it as such it serves the purpose of telling the story in a way that is easy to read and understand the high of the story makes the next low even lower because the story is such a wasted potential it's such a shame this story was wasted on a web novel that not many Digimon fans will read we live in the age of shorts and reals we are used to getting information quick and easy of course of course there are still people who love to read but General statistics say our attention spans keep decreasing and people don't have the time or patience to read only hardcore fans who
6:08 really want to see what Digimon does next will read some 50 chapters Digimon Seekers took to tell the story sometimes these chapters were too descriptive or involved a lot of dialogue maybe if it was presented on the web in a more visual way or as a manga more fans would have stuck around because when it comes to Digimon fans want action not descriptive web novels many fans who were willing to read in the beginning started quitting early on it's a big commitment to start reading something and see the project through the end almost a year later it didn't help that the English translation was not very good in the beginning so it was difficult to follow the story that's why I did video Recaps for fans who want to know about the story but don't have the time or patience to read through every chapter or listen to the full story narrated you can find those Recaps in my playlist Digimon Seekers finally my
6:56 verdict on Digimon Seekers is that it was good for what it was a web novel within its own Universe Digimon Seekers is consistent answers questions instead of posing a 100 new ones like some other Digimon stories doesn't confuse the reader and it's pretty easy to understand would I have preferred a movie series or a game to Mark the 25th anniversary yes but I still hope we get one of those this year did you follow through with Digimon Seekers till the end and what do you think about it tell me in the comments below if you want to support me you can do so on patreon or buy me coffee the links are in the description below thank you for watching watching stay tuned for more Digimon videos BS make sure to follow my Community page on YouTube as I also post updates about upcoming videos there
