Brief Summary

This video provides a step-by-step guide for individuals aiming to succeed in the freelancing world. It emphasizes the importance of using LinkedIn and Upwork, setting competitive rates, building a personal brand, networking, and continuous learning. The guide aims to help freelancers focus on earning money and providing value to clients.

  • Sign up on LinkedIn and Upwork to build a personal brand and find job opportunities.
  • Set an average rate based on your experience level by researching rates on Upwork in incognito mode.
  • Optimize your LinkedIn profile for SEO, regularly post content, and engage with the community.
  • Attend virtual and in-person networking events and conferences to expand your knowledge and meet potential clients.
  • Dedicate weekends to skill enhancement and staying updated with industry trends.

Sign Up on LinkedIn and Upwork

To begin a freelancing career, it's essential to sign up on LinkedIn and Upwork, which will serve as primary platforms. LinkedIn is useful for building a personal brand and generating leads, while Upwork is where you should create a strong profile. You can then apply for jobs on either platform.

Determine Your Average Rate

When applying for jobs on LinkedIn or Upwork, it's important to set an appropriate average rate. Research the rates charged by others in India with similar skills on Upwork using an incognito window. Beginners should aim for $8 to $10. Establishing a rate allows you to create two types of portfolios: one for short-term clients and another for long-term clients. Long-term clients cover major expenses, while short-term clients can provide higher earnings initially and potentially convert into long-term opportunities.

Grow on LinkedIn

To grow on LinkedIn, optimize your profile with SEO-driven titles, cover banners, education details, summaries, and skills with hashtags. Regularly add three to four pieces of content and engage with people for about 1.5 to 2.5 hours, especially before publishing content. Consistent engagement fosters relationships and increases reach on LinkedIn, which is a community-driven platform. Resources for building a personal brand on LinkedIn and Upwork are available in the video description, referencing a documentary and playbook.

Attend Networking Events and Conferences

Attending virtual and in-person networking events and conferences is crucial. Virtual events are more accessible due to budget considerations. Platforms like Meet Up list both free and paid events, and LinkedIn is also a source of information about these events. Participating in these gatherings increases knowledge, expands your network, and helps convey your message as a freelancer.

Continuous Learning and Skill Enhancement

Dedicate Saturdays and Sundays to studying and brushing up your skills. Review issues encountered during the week and anticipate future trends like AI and technological advancements. Take courses to stay updated and confident. This continuous learning approach, combined with the strategies mentioned, builds confidence and helps establish a name in the freelancing world.

0:00 Freelancers don’t struggle because they don’t get clients. Freelancers struggle because they have a lot of distractions and they don't understand how to actually make money. I have earned more than 1 crore in the freelancing world. Upwork has a public profile where you can go and check out. So today's video step by step guide is for all those people who want to enter the freelancing world. First of all sign up yourself on Lindin and Upwork. These two are going to be the platforms that will become your Bible. You will get leads on Lindin because you will build a personal brand. I will tell you myself how to do it. You have to make your profile good on Upwork. You will apply to jobs from wherever you get leads. Second, now you have to apply for the jobs whether it is Lindin or Upwork, you have to keep an average of the rate you want to keep for yourself. You go to the incognito window.

0:46 Incognito: How much are people in India charging for the same work or skill that you have on Upwork ? On an average. For example, $3 ones will be available , $10 ones will also be available, $20 ones will also be available. If you are at a beginner level then keep your average at 8 or 10 dollars. You have no experience at all so three or $5 you have I had 12 years of work ex when I started. So people told me to demand $40, demand $50. I started with $30. Even after $30, I was still able to get things in a cut from the [ __ ]. So approximately $24 would come into my hand. So I kept it on an average rate. Because when I used to talk to the clients, I used to tell them that even after $30, I would still get $24. So at least we start at $30. So this is the basic understanding, through this you will be

1:34 able to create two portfolios. One from a short term client of your long term clients. You will run your operations with long term clients. Whatever your major expenses will be, they will be covered by long term clients. He might give you $20 instead of $25, but that will cover all your operational expenses. Short term clients will come for a month, will come for 3 months. But there are chances that it may get converted into a long term investment in future. You can earn more money from them in the short term. Suppose you will earn only $30 because $30 was your rate. Going forward you might be able to earn $20 from them because now they are long term. Third, because now you have created an account on Lindin, now it is time to grow Lindin. The first thing you need to do is optimize your profile. Must be SEO driven. The title should be good. The cover banner should be good. There should be education. The summary section should be good. Skills should be added. There

2:20 should be a hashtag. You have to add three to four content pieces on a regular basis. You have to engage with people. Approximately 1 and a half hour. Maximum you can do it for two to two and a half hours. This has to be done whenever you publish any content. You have to do engagement before publishing the end content. If you do this on a regular basis, your relationship with people will grow. The more engagement you get, the faster you will grow on Lindin. Because Lindin is n’t like Instagram and YouTube. Lindin is a very community dream platform. The more communities you create, the more reach you will have and the more followers you will gain, creating your personal brand. And to understand this in more depth whether it is Lindin or Apo. I have created a detailed documentary and playbook for both of these. I will give you the link of which in my description. You can go check out how I

3:05 built a personal brand. Even Lindin gave me ₹2500 to convince Lindin. And I did the same thing for Upwork also. As I mentioned, I created a $10 million freelancing profile on Upwork. Fourth, all the virtual networking events that happen or as many conferences as I can attend in person, I try that depending on my budget. If it is virtual, then of course, budget is not such an issue, so I can attend more networking events. Conferences keep happening in America, in the UK and nowadays, a lot of conferences keep happening in India too. There is an app called Meet Up. In that Meet Up app, you get both free and paid events and if you are more active on Lindin, then automatically you get to know about these events because many times the event organisers keep posting about all these things on Lindin as well. So,

3:51 the more you attend conferences and meet-ups, your knowledge will increase. You will meet more people. You will be able to convey your message to people. You will be able to make people understand that you are a freelancer. Ultimately you want to kick start your freelancing journey. So this is the best option. Last but not the least. When I was in this freelancing world, I would work a lot Monday to Friday. I used to study on Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturdays and Sundays I would brush up my skills. I would have increased my knowledge more. I look at the issues that I come across from Monday to Friday or what I feel are the things that are coming at the next level like AI is coming, tech is getting better. I would study for it, do courses for it so that my knowledge gets brushed up and I would always remain up to date and in touch with the trends. After doing all these things, I would probably be very

4:37 confident with people who want to freelance. At least after doing all these things, I get the confidence that maybe I just need a break. First platform is required. Need first client. After that maybe I will be able to make a name for myself in the freelancing world. And thankfully through Upwork I was able to make that name. That's why I am able to help you all. And that's why I would tell you to share this video with others as well because a lot of people want to start freelance but so many content creators have already come. So many freelancers have come. The market has become so distracted that you have lost focus on how to earn money. That's why I make all the videos so that you can focus on only one thing i.e. earning money and helping people. So I hope you liked this video. Please make sure you subscribe to this channel. Please like the video as

5:24 I keep uploading such videos on a regular basis. Thank you guys, for watching my complete video.
