YES, Starlight was a VILLAIN || My Little Pony Commentary

Brief Summary

The video is a reaction and commentary on another YouTuber's video defending Starlight Glimmer from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, arguing that she was never a villain. The content creator disagrees, maintaining that Starlight was indeed a villain due to her actions, such as starting a cult-like village and stripping ponies of their identities. The video addresses the original video's points, including comparisons to other villains and the nature of the show being targeted toward children.

  • The content creator asserts Starlight Glimmer was a villain.
  • The content creator argues that the original video's comparison of MLP villains to movie villains is flawed because MLP is a children's show.
  • The content creator shares a personal story about being a "villain" to someone.

Intro

The content creator introduces the video as a reaction to another YouTuber's defense of Starlight Glimmer, arguing that she was not a villain. The content creator states that while he disagrees with the YouTuber on many points, he was convinced by him that Discord from My Little Pony was never a villain. He expresses skepticism about being convinced regarding Starlight, stating that she will always be a former villain who turned good in his eyes. He also encourages viewers to be respectful and nice when disagreeing with others in the comments section.

Initial Reactions and Disagreements

The YouTuber whose video is being reacted to addresses negative comments received for his stance that Starlight was never a villain. He clarifies that he's presenting evidence and not trying to force anyone to change their mind. The content creator responds by stating that Starlight started a communist village and stripped ponies of their identities, which he considers villainous actions. He acknowledges the YouTuber's right to his opinion but remains unconvinced.

Defining Villainous Actions

The YouTuber in the video argues that while Starlight's actions might be considered villainous, everyone has done wrong things, and that doesn't make them a villain. He uses examples of top movie villains from Ranker, such as Scar from The Lion King and Pennywise from It, to illustrate what he considers true villainy, which involves murder and large-scale evil. The content creator counters that Starlight destroyed lives and that killing isn't the only measure of being a villain. He also shares a personal anecdote about being a villain in someone's life without killing anyone.

Comparing Villains and the Nature of MLP

The YouTuber whose video is being reacted to argues that Starlight's actions cannot be compared to the top 10 villains from Ranker because she did not commit murder or other extreme acts of evil. He suggests that Starlight's actions were not that bad and that the show's writers could have made her a stronger character by showing the lasting effects of her actions on other ponies. The content creator agrees that it would have been good to show some ponies being negatively affected by Starlight's actions, but he still maintains that she was a villain. He also points out that My Little Pony is a kid's show, so it cannot tackle serious issues in the same way as more mature shows.

Indoctrination and Propaganda

The YouTuber in the video being reacted to criticizes the writing in the "Cutie Map" episode, calling it nonsensical. He argues that Starlight's equal sign replacement should have made the ponies in her town completely subservient to her. He also questions why Starlight didn't just kill the ponies who were chasing her. The content creator counters that the books full of equal signs in the episode represent indoctrination and propaganda. He also suggests that the YouTuber wants the villain to win and shoot the main characters, which is not appropriate for a children's show.

Growing Up with the Show

The YouTuber in the video being reacted to argues that shows like My Little Pony should grow up with their audience. He uses Harry Potter as an example of a series that matured as its audience grew older. The content creator disagrees, stating that My Little Pony is a show targeting a certain age group and is not meant to grow up with its audience. He suggests that if the YouTuber wants a more mature version of the show, he should stick with fanfiction.

Personal Anecdote and Final Thoughts

The content creator shares a personal story about his experience with a cult and how he became a "villain" to Kent Hovind, a young earth creationist. He relates this experience to Starlight Glimmer's villainous actions and argues that she was still a villain even though she didn't kill anyone. He concludes by stating that the YouTuber in the video being reacted to thinks that My Little Pony is supposed to be a masterpiece that grows up with its audience, but it is actually a show targeting children.

0:00 Let's go. It's time to be the gold. It's time to enter god mode, man. Let's get it going. I want to be the greatest. Energy is overflowing. I know I'm stoking the fire. My desires taking over. >> Okay, you beautiful friends. Welcome back to the back of the semi truck. And I am finally, as you can tell by the thumbnail, you could tell by the title, I am finally getting around to watching this guy's video that he did on Starlight. This is his second video. The first one was, "Was Starlight a villain?" And this is the second part to it, and he hasn't convinced me. Now, I can say one thing about the guy. As much as I disagree with him on so many

0:47 different things, he has convinced me about Discord was never a villain. In my opinion now, I don't believe Discord was a villain because he lives in a constant state of chaos and without that chaos, he is no longer existing. So, he's just doing what comes natural to him to survive. And unfortunately, that does, you know, cause problems for everyone else, but he wasn't ever doing it with a malice intent. So, or malicious intent, whichever word I'm looking for there. But yeah, he did convince me of that. So, I do agree with him on that. But was Starlight a villain? He says no. I say

1:33 yes, she was a villain, but he's got a second video here for me to go through and see if he can still convince me. I don't think he will. Um, she's going to always be a former villain. turned good in my eyes, but I don't know. And just a disclaimer, that's coming from someone who loves Starlight as a character. So, yeah, she was a villain. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. But let's see if he can convince me. I did kind of shorten up my intro there a little bit because it is 8:00 at night for me. This is a 27 minute long video, but we're going to sit here and go through the entire thing

2:19 and hopefully I get done with this within hopefully a little over an hour because I know how long these kind of videos can be. So, I'm going to shut up and we're going to do this in three, two, one, and play. [Music] Ah, there you are. [Music] All right. So, some people were pissed, and that's fine. I don't mind pissing people off. I got a lot of comments. I

3:05 got a lot of blowback for saying Starlight was never a villain. And uh I had to delete a lot of comments because a lot of them were derogatory or just plain rude and I'm not going to deal with that. But guess what? I am going to stay the path. I I don't I did not see a legitimate argument for why Starlight is a villain. Uh I saw that she lied. Yes. Which is wrong. Yes. Have any of you lied? Have I lied? Yes. Does that make us villains? No. bald. Okay, so I wanted to pause a second ago when he was talking about the hateful comments that he was getting. Just because you disagree with somebody doesn't mean that you need to leave hateful comments. You can disagree with

3:53 somebody at the same time as being nice. I don't agree with them some of the time. Sometimes I do get a little frustrated, but at the same time, I I don't dislike the guy. He's got his opinions. I've got my opinions. So, don't go over there leaving hatefilled comments. Go over there being disagreeable but nice. That's my opinion. I fully support everyone disagreeing with me and my opinion that I don't delete comments. Now, if you're harassing someone in the comments, that's when I step in and possibly delete something. I don't care. You can insult me all you want, but it's

4:40 when other people are commenting when I get problems. So, I don't care if you leave hateful comments to me. I'll roll with them and agree with you probably. But don't go over there leaving hateful comments to them. Go over there, enjoy their video without my commentary, and just enjoy. I don't know any other way of saying that. just enjoy the commentary and be disagreeably nice. I guess that's the only way I could say it. So, let's continue and see if he can convince me. >> I saw um some other things. I was going to skip over the second episode uh the second uh of the cutie map. Um, but I guess I will uh not and I will go more

5:28 in depth into that episode as well and to why that is an episode that I can't view as Starlight being a villain either. Um, I was going to go into the positive but there was so much discourse and anger in the comments that I will uh further reinforce my perspective. Am I trying to convince you all that Starlight was a was not a villain? No. I can't make anyone think anything. I am simply presenting to you the evidence of what I've seen for people saying she's a villain and saying, "No, I don't see it. Sorry. If you can prod produce good enough evidence for me to say, oh yeah, that is good evidence she is a villain," then I will do that. But moving on,

6:15 >> balls. Okay, my dude. She literally started a communist village and convinced everyone that their cutie mark is a bad thing instead of letting them be their unique self. Yes, I understand there were circumstances that led up to that, but she still did it. She stripped people of essentially their humanity. And I think that's a good comparison of a cutie mark being kind of a symbolistic, you know, symbolism of their quote

7:03 humanity or ponification. I I I don't really know. Y'all know what I'm saying. Um, yeah, she kind of stripped them of that and then put an equal sign mark on them pretty much in the same sense that was Yeah, we'll just say mustache man's type symbol going on there. So, she's You're not going to convince I know you're not trying to convince me because you just said that, but you're not going to convince me that she was a vill was not a villain probably. Maybe you will. I don't know. I will give the benefit of the doubt and listen. So, let's continue and black. [Music]

8:04 Okay. So, one of the things that I heard a lot was that Starlight's actions could be considered villainous. Yes, because villains have the same actions as nonvillainous people. Uh, except for really big ones. Um, lying is a villainous action. Stealing is a villainous action. Uh, nobody debates that Starlight did things like this. Uh, maybe stealing. Stealing is kind of looser. I'll go into that in a little bit. But lying, she most definitely did. Uh, but people lie. All people lie and a lot of people steal. You could say, "Oh, well, I've never stolen." But a lot of people have stolen something. Some people have stolen a pencil. Some people have stolen candy. Some people have taken stuff when their parents told them, "Hey, don't eat these

8:50 and you go and eat those." That's stealing. Um, so can a person have villainous actions without being a villain? Of course. That's ridiculous. To say that you've done some villainous things in your life and that automatically makes you a villain is dumb. >> Pause. Okay. Going back to his example of a child eating something that their parents told them not to eat and then they still eat it anyway. That's kind of stretching on what's considered stealing, I think, because a child simply eating something because they were told not to is not stealing. I'm sorry, but you're kind of stretching

9:35 it a little bit there. So, yeah. Um, but yeah, children do childish things. So, yeah. Either way, I I just I wanted to kind It kind of threw me off with that example. So, I figured stop and pause and you know what's a commentary video without commentary? And I'm trying to I know I say this in a lot of videos, but for this one particularly, I'm trying to kind of let it play out a little bit longer than normal whenever I pause because 27 minutes. I could end up pausing probably 50 different times. And this would make this video like an hour and a half long. And I'm sorry to tell

10:22 everybody, but I can't go for an hour and a half. I could, but I'm going to have to call the wife soon and I'll probably do that in about an hour. So, as soon as I get done recording this, I'll be talking to my wife. So, I'm going to shut up and let this guy continue, though. Let's continue with this play button and go. So, I wanted to get into some actual real villains that are not just that don't just have villainous actions, but are actually villains and they're revered as villains. So, MLP has a villain issue, and it is that all of their villains are pretty weak. Uh, even with Chrysalis being the best villain out of all three, uh, her, Trekk, and

11:09 Cosiglow, and Sombra are all very lame. They never really do anything that has lasting effects on all of Equestria or anything really. They kind of just uh take over for a few minutes and then they just lose and that's what happens over and over to them. So, I went to a website called Ranker and uh the way this website works is they basically let people vote and I went to the top the top 10 greatest uh movie villains of all time and I wanted to talk a little about those and see what the majority of people who watch movies what they think a villain is. So, let's start off with this. So, at number 10 we have Scar from The Lion King. Um what did he do? He

11:54 murdered his brother because he wanted to be the king. And he was going to have his uh nephew killed. And then when he found out that his nephew lived, he tried to kill him himself. Um so murder and attempted murder of a child and then attempted murder again later. Um after that we have uh at number nine, Penny Wise the Dancing Clown from It. Uh Pennywise uh literally killed thousands. He is responsible for >> Paul's Okay, hold on. So, essentially what he's going to be trying to do here is get these 10 top 10 villains from Ranker

12:43 and just say, "Well, they killed people, so yeah, they're villains, but Starlight didn't kill nobody." How do we know she didn't kill anybody? Because she was kind of manipulating time and kind of destroying realities and just kind of just messing everything up. Just because you don't kill anybody doesn't mean that you're not a villain. I get that you know Scar. Yes, villain. You know, Pennywise from it definitely a villain. They're villains. Not because they kill people, but because of the actions that they take. I can be a villain to somebody and never kill anybody.

13:29 I'm not saying I'm a villain. I might be somebody's villain and I just don't even know it. Oh, wait. I am somebody's villain. Y'all don't know who this is, but Kent Hovven, he's my villain and I'm his villain. He might not acknowledge me, but he knows who I am. He definitely knows who I am. And I don't suggest y'all look him up. He's definitely not worth it. But I'm definitely a villain of his. He knows who I am. I've kind of turned his world upside down. And that's why he won't acknowledge me because of his support of somebody who did something to children. That's why he's my villain. And I'm his villain. But I didn't kill nobody. But I'm still a villain to somebody.

14:16 Okay, that was a weird tangent. Moving on. Let's discuss Pennywise and then move on to another villain and play uh killing children. Literally an embodiment of evil that prays on the fears of children and people and then kills them. Okay. Uh so then uh Agent Smith was number eight and Agent Smith obviously killed people in the Matrix. That was his entire job to kill humans that were out of line. He killed a bunch of people in the real world. Um he killed like Trinity. Uh he also did the thing where he was taking over their bodies. He wanted everything for himself. He wanted to destroy. He wanted to be the de facto uh being. Humans and

15:02 uh machines uh were below him and he wanted to spread to everything. Number seven is Hans Landa from Englorius. Um, he had a kill count of about 230. Uh, he murdered children. Uh, he's a Nazi. I don't really even think I have to go further than that. Um, number six was Sauron from the Lord of the Rings. Murdered. Who even knows? Pure evil selfishness. Wanted to overthrow the world. Wanted to rule the entire world. >> Falls again. Like I said, this is going to be his argument for the top 10 villains. They killed people.

15:49 That makes them villainous. Starlight didn't kill nobody, so she's not a villain. Yeah, but she destroyed plenty of lives. You don't have to kill somebody to be a villain. I know I'm repeating myself and I'm sorry, but my goodness. Let's let him continue so I can push through and get further with this play. Uh, no mercy. Kill everything that is not on his side. Evil beyond comprehension. Uh, number five, Emperor Palpatine. Just like Sauron, an in an inquantifiable evil. Just murdered Jedi. Had Jedi murdered left and right with Order 66. um corrupted uh Anakin Skywalker into

16:36 becoming Darth Vader who murdered so many people. Um, >> pause. Well, Starlight corrupted many people as well with convincing them that their thing that makes them who they are was a bad thing and made a cult communist compound just she's a villain. She was a villain, but she learned the error of her ways. So, I like her. I think she's my number one favorite character because I did a list. I did like a top 100 list and Spike was way down at the bottom. Geez. Either way, let's continue and play.

17:23 >> And then number four was Hannibal Lectar. Uh murdered 45 people at least. Uh ate 17 of them around 17 of them. Uh so Cannibal and Murderer. Um Thanos was number three. Thanos his snap killed trillions. Um, a lot of people will be like, "Thanos was right." Uh, and even the movies in like one of the later movies that nobody watched, it was like the immortals or whatever, like they tried to justify his neck and stuff, but uh, no, that's that's evil action. Thanos was way evil more evil in the comics. Uh, they tried to make him a little bit more like, oh, he's not that bad. No, he's he's that bad in the original stuff. And uh number two is the Joker.

18:11 The Joker has murdered so many um it's hard to even like Joker is the Joker. Like again they tried to make him uh relatable in the Joker movie with uh the guy from Gladiator Walking Phoenix. Uh that's what they're trying to do. They're trying to make uh villains relatable. But villains were never relatable and people don't want to relate to villains. villains are evil and uh people liked watching them work to be evil so that when they were defeated people were like, "Oh, this is good. The the evil side lost." Now, I can already hear a bunch of people in the comments saying, "No, I I do want to relate to villains. This and this and that." You can't tell everybody what they do want and they don't want. What I mean by people don't want to re relate to villains is they want to turn

18:57 villains into heroes. You have stuff like Maleficent where uh Maleficent was evil in Sleeping Beauty, but then they made her into a hero. She was the good guy. And then you have stuff like balls. Okay. So, I can see where he's coming from with this thing about where they want to turn villains into heroes and stuff like that. I get it to a certain degree with, you know, there is a such thing as anti-heroes as well. Most people would consider Punisher, he's not a villain. I mean, but yet by your logic and your, you know, the way

19:43 you're thinking about all this top 10 villain stuff, he would be a villain because he's killed countless people. Granted, for good reason. He's killed them for good good reason. But he's killed them. So, by the logic of your top 10 list and how you keep saying, "Well, they killed people. They killed people. They killed this these people. They killed those people." that would mean that he's a bad guy, but he's not. He's an anti-hero. He's not exactly a hero, but he's not exactly a villain. So, he's kind of he's in that limbo area where people are not going to be like, "Well, can't have him around. He's a villain." No, he's taking out the bad people. So, but he's doing it in ways that,

20:29 let's put this, there's no sugar coating it. He kills people who do bad things there. Um, so yeah, I could see what he means. We aren't supposed to see ourselves in the villains and relate to them and this and that. That I completely understand. We're not supposed to relate to villains, but that aspect is out there and people do relate to villains. Unfortunately, we've all got intrusive thoughts. We're going to relate to villains in some way or another sometimes. And just like I was talking to with the wife the other day, we just got some a camera system set up, you know, for our yard. And I told her the one thing, if I

21:18 have to have a sign in my front yard, I will not get it. Because the simple fact is, I told her flat out, I can think like a criminal. And if I'm someone who's walking by a house and I'm staking places out, I'm personally going to look for the places that have signs in their yard telling me that they've got security system. So, I'll watch the house. And I shouldn't be saying this because this might give people ideas. Don't do what I'm thinking in my head. I would then look for the houses with the signs. So once I watch the house and find out when people are there and when they're not, then I just simply put a mask on,

22:05 break into the house. That tells me I've got about a 10m minute time frame. Go straight for anything that's valuable and get out. All a sign does is tell a criminal you got a time limit before the cops get here. So yeah. Um, intrusive thought. Do I relate to the criminal? I guess a little bit. They're a villain. The criminal is a villain, but I still relate to them. So, I get what he's saying. We're not supposed to relate to them, but we got those thoughts. We got intrusive thoughts. And this thought of mine has been going on for far too long. So, let's go ahead and play this play button again. And like um the Joker, he's always been a villain. He's always

22:51 been the bad guy. and they made the movie with Walking Phoenix and they turned him into an anti-hero sort of character, a character that was misunderstood and that uh people are like this until something bad happens to them and then when the bad thing happens to them, then then they're considered villains, but they're not they're not villains at heart. It's because society did this to them. You have it with Thanos from the Avengers. Same thing. It's the exact same thing. Well, he he he was he was wrong in his approach, but he had a good motivation. All of these villains, that's not what villains have traditionally been for ever. You had villains like Sauron. You had villains like Hannibal Lectar. You had villains like Emperor Palpatine. These were villains that had lasting power for

23:37 years and years. And it's because they were pure evil. They liked being evil. They wanted to be evil. And they wanted to crush and destroy everything that wasn't according to what they wanted. Finally, they had Darth Vader at number one. And I think Darth Vader being at number one is perfect because the contrast between him and Starlight Glimmer is so vast. It it shows how different they are that I feel like it justifies my entire argument. Um, Darth Vader is a redeemed villain. In Star Wars Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader kills Emperor Palpatine, and in doing so, he saves his son, Luke Skywalker, and he becomes good, quote

24:22 unquote. He does the right thing in the end. That doesn't change the fact that he killed hundreds of thousands, if not millions. He killed murdered, straight murder. He murdered children. He did some of the most evil, horrendous stuff for Palpatine and for the dark side. And he overcame that before he died and became good, quote unquote. Starlight Glimmer did not overcome or defeat anything to that scale. like he did not she did not her uh a a friend of mine pointed this out and it made me laugh. Starlight's

25:10 Starlight herself is more traumatized in the MLP cannon in in the in the episodes than her quote unquote victims. She goes back to her village and she is terrified of them being mad at her and they're not even mad at her what she did to them. Everyone wants to say, "Oh, it was this horrible, villainous, awful. She is atrociously evil." >> False. I'm not saying she's evil, but what she did was definitely not good. I mean, come on. Let's keep in mind, let let this is bothering me because

25:57 we've got movies and villains that he's talking about that have the ability to actually do what they're talking about, like killing people and this and that. Yes, you those movies and shows, you got that ability in there. We're talking about My Little Pony. I'm surprised they got away with as much as they did sometimes because everyone could see exactly what that village was. It was nothing but a freaking cult communist village that had a strangle hold on it from Starlight. Starlight had a strangle hold on it. If we could have a mature like rated PG-13, rated R, My Little

26:46 Pony series, I bet she was killing people. I will guarantee you people step out of line, I bet she on some ponies. I'll guarantee you she would have. So, we're dealing with a show that is geared towards children. that a lot of us adults, for some odd reason, absolutely love. Yes, I can see why it's weird for all of us adults to like it. It's It is what it is. There's no reason me, as old as I am, should be looking at My Little Pony and being like, "This is a darn good show. I'm getting so much out of it."

27:33 But I do. I'm a weirdo, though, so I don't care. But nonetheless though, if we had something that could be that much more mature, then she would have been killing people cuz I don't remember any villain in MLP killing anybody. I'm sure there was some collateral damage somewhere, but by the set standard that you're going by, like, oh, the top 10 people on Ranker who are villains killed people. That makes them a villain. Or at least that's what I'm surmising from how he's talking. No, that's not what makes a villain a villain. Sorry, but it doesn't because My Little Pony ain't showing you killing anybody. Ah, whatever. Let's let him continue because

28:20 I do not have long before I need to call it a wife. Let's let him talk for a minute. Unless he says something egregious, then I'm going to pause it again. You can't compare what Starlight did to any of these 10 characters that I just listed off. The amount of murder and uh just like evil that permeates the top 10 list of that website. Starlight did like virtually nothing. Was it wrong what she did? Some of it, yes. Majority of it, even maybe I would be uh inclined to agree. The majority of what she did was wrong. But we all do wrong things. However, we don't do things on the scale of murdering hundreds of thousands or

29:08 even 50. We don't do things on the scale of eating people. We don't do things on the scale of the rword. We don't do things on the scale of like just any of these things. And Starlight did not do anything on any of these scales. There's this presumption that I said or I made the claim that Starlight is not a villain and was never a villain because it would hurt me if she was a villain or I'm trying to defend her point or I I like her because she's not a villain. All of that is incorrect. Sorry. If Starlight was a villain and she was a great villain, that would make her an even better character like Darth Vader.

29:54 Starlight didn't do anything that bad and they tried to like act like it was that bad, but because they a lot of people said this, it's a kid show. They can't do really bad stuff. They kind of skirted the lot. No, they didn't. Nothing that Starlight did was that bad. And that's the issue. Had had we gotten a few episodes of some of the ripple effects of her her her town, like showing that she truly traumatized some ponies and they were stilted and they didn't grow up correctly or that they feared her beyond belief or anything anything to show like that or that she starved some of them and they like any any bad any evil bad things would have made her a stronger character and it would have made her an even better hero.

30:40 Paul's I can agree with that aspect that he's saying. It would have been good of the series that when she did go back to her village, even though she was scared to go to her village, yeah, okay, yes, let most of them be nice, but it would have been good for at least like one or two or three people to kind of be like, "No, we don't like you. You You kind of warped our mind a little here. You screwed with us." But unfortunately, My Little Pony doesn't tackle that serious of issues. I'm sorry to tell him, but it's a valid argument saying that this is a kid show. This is My Little Pony. They're not going to be that blatant with stuff such as,

31:27 you know, with Scoot Scooaloo. Let's be real, she was handicapped. But they never truly delved into that. you know, Scootaloo, you know, she had that little wing over here, but she had a good wing over here. She was blatantly handicapped, but they never explicitly went into it except for the one episode where she was doing a bunch of dangerous stunts and stuff. They kind of skirted around it when they could have easily just did the episode like, "Hey, look, I'm handicapped." They could have did that, but they didn't. Hence the reason why they had to skirt around this issue of her being a villain. Sorry to tell him, but none of them killed anybody.

32:14 Chrysis didn't kill anybody that I seen. Maybe I'm wrong. Someone correct me in the comments. I'm going to let him play some more, >> bro. Because um like Darth Vader, you turn against all of that evil to become good and it makes you a better character for it. Starlight didn't really do anything that bad. Oh, she stole some cutie marks. Oh, she lied a little bit. Oh, she had the main six in a room. Oh, she was manipulative. Yeah, all of those things are easily forgiven. A lot of regular people are manipulative. A lot of regular people lie. A lot of regular people are controlling. They're not evil, though. They just are wrong.

32:59 >> False. And a lot of regular people, believe it or not, are villains. Not in the traditional maha sort of situation, but they're villains in those people's lives. They're, you know, they're not explicitly like I'm going to kill you. No, they're they're villains like, you know, a narcissist. He has a wife and, you know, he's being narcissistic. having his narcissistic tendencies belittles her. It puts her, you know, granted, yeah, puts her down. That's the same as belittling pretty much. She's trapped in a relationship, then that's nothing. That's kind of villainous. She's being put down all the time inadvertently by

33:45 him. Granted, he might not mean to, but due to his narcissism, he does that. That's just an example. It's a bad example, I think, but it's still, you know, it still holds water. People could be ordinary people could be villains to other people. And as far as what you just said, oh, she took people's cutie mark. Okay. Stripped them of their well, I I wish I could have a word for a pony word for humanity, but ponyity, I don't know. took their cutie marks, which is essentially stripping them of who they are, which is their humanity/ponianity, whatever. I don't care. Lied, I don't care. She lied. Granted, depending on the lie, that's a whole another matter.

34:32 But lying, I don't care. Everybody tells a white lie from time to time. We're not talking about a white lie, though. Put the main six in a room. You mean kidnap? Lock them away. Kidnap them so they could tell everybody. kidnapping is kind of a villainous thing. Let's continue. And for Starlight, this made her a worse character. She could have been so much better, but giving her such weak motivation and weak actions made her not only not a villain, but a less strong character in general. Now, I wanted to get into something else that a lot of people comment and a lot

35:18 of people have this perspective on about MLP, and that is, oh, well, it's a kids show. It's for children. They did a good job with Starlight because they couldn't show really horrible things that cults do because there is an age that they have to keep it low. Um, but here's the thing. every single um IP that is uh like this that goes on for a long time, it has to grow up at some point. Um My Little Pony never had to do that prior because they had generations. Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4, Gen 5. And what they would do is they would reset. And when they reset, the story would reset. But the problem is is that My Little Pony G4

36:03 was insanely popular. And that's where we start hitting some snags. So, Friendship is Magic started on October 10th, 2010. >> Hold on. >> Long time ago. >> Pause. Okay. So, I'm going back to what he said. It has to grow up with the This isn't a show like Boy Meets World where, you know, the show needs to grow up with their audience. This is a show that's if the audience outgrows it, then they just simply outgrow it. There's more audience out there for who they're targeting. It's Oh my gosh, that that comment bewilders me. This is a show targeting a

36:49 certain age group. It is not targeting us. It's not targeting you. And yes, I know it feels like I'm attacking him, but I'm not. It It's commentary. I've got to be a little animated, but it's not targeting you. You expect My Little Pony to be this grand like storytelling adventure and it's a kids show that adults like they're not going to write it for us. I did another video commentary on another one of your things. If you like if you like the fanfiction better than you like the series, then you just need to stick with that because the Celestia and Luna thing that he wanted, you know,

37:36 he was complaining about that how they ruined their characters on the show. But this fanfiction did them great. Well, you know what? The fanfiction can do them great because they can target a more mature audience. I'm sure we could find a fanfiction of Starlight in the village where she killed people because they can target a more mature audience. Oh my gosh. Let's continue. Play. And it ended on October 12th, 2019. So, here's the issue with that. Every show and stuff has a target demographic. That is correct. Some things are meant to be viewed by 5-year-olds. Some things are meant to be viewed by 10-year-olds. Some things are me meant to be viewed by

38:21 15y olds, 20-year-olds, etc., etc., older people, whatever. Um, the target demographic that I've always figured uh MLP was around was around probably 8 to 12. 8 to 12 year olds, which is fine. That's the demographic, right? Here's the issue. When you have one continuous story that has a start, a middle, and an end, like Generation 4, Friendship is Magic, then are you not supposed to watch that series from start to middle to end? If you are, then that means that the characters in this show, the people, not the characters, the viewers, if they were 8 to 12 years old when they

39:07 started, then 9 years later, they would be 17 to 21. They would be grown-ups. Where else do we see something like this happen? Well, we see it in Harry Potter. Harry >> falls. Oh my gosh. Okay. Okay. Um, Harry Potter, it was written that way on purpose. Yes.

39:53 I'm trying to find the right words. Yeah, in the first book he was a certain age. Guess what, though? Even in the last book, it wasn't like an 18 plus book, even though he was at the point where he was mature enough to probably have it written that way. The audience was probably written to have it that way, too. Guess what? The target demographic was still what it was. This is a terrible example. Harry Potter started with um Harry, Hermione, and Ron in their first year at Hogwarts. They were 11 years old. And as the books went on and they grew up, it was 6 years, 7 years, what, however many years until the Deathly Hollows. Seven books, six books, right? So they started

40:40 at 11 and they ended around 17. Now when you look at Harry Potter and you read from the Philosopher Stone to the Deathly Hollows, you will see the shift in tone. You will see the growing up of the writing. You have to do this because in Philosopher Stone, your story is geared towards that age, 11. And then the readers who picked it up there and can relate to it the most are the 11 year olds. That is your demographic will grow up as you're releasing more books. Argo, you start to mature with them as a writer and you write more mature stuff and mature stuff and mature stuff.

41:26 written by Deathly Hollows. We had romance. We had murder. We had snakes eating people. I think like we had very mature themes. MLP Gen 4 Friendship is Magic should have done the exact same thing. As the viewers watched it and it continued for 9 years, the writing should have matured with the viewers. The problem is it didn't. And this in particular hurt Starlight Glimmer because she was running a cult and she was what 5 years into the story. That means that the the 8 to 12 year olds would be 13 to 17 by

42:13 now and they would be able to deal with much darker themes. Now, a lot of people would be like, "Well, >> pause." Okay, look, my dude. I know you're never probably going to see this video and you probably already clicked off by now, but you've got to realize this is pastel colored ponies. This is not 8 to Well, it's 8 to 12, but it's honestly it's probably more like 6 to 10, possibly 7 to 11 is the age group they're going for. when they hit 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 years old, they're too old for this stuff and they grow out of it. That's why they don't that's why they didn't actually try to write something more mature because

43:02 they're like, "Well, that age group has done grown out of it, but we're going to continue it for this age group." They're not going to. This is not that kind of show. Sorry, but it's not. That's like saying that Darkwing Duck and Well, Gargoyles was a little mature for its time. That's like Batman the animated series. Oh, wait. That one's a little more mature, too. But y'all get the gist that I'm talking about. They're telling stories. And they can't just expect to write for the, you know, 17. Oh, this show started when this kid Yeah. Oh, this show went on for nine years. This kid was 10 at the time, but now we're in the ninth

43:47 season. We need to write for a 19-year-old now. That's not how this works. If that's what you want, go to your fanfictions. I mean, and I'm not insulting fanfictions, you know, to each their own, but my goodness. I mean, this guy expects shows to just grow up with the people. If you want a show to grow up with you, then you're going to have to go with Boy Meets World or The Wonder Years or I don't know, a modern show would be Modern Family or you're you need a live action show pretty much is what I'm saying. Like Home Improvement. I mean, it's the early 90s, maybe mid 90s, but

44:32 you know, that show kind of grew up with people. I mean, the kids grew up, they got older, they got more rebellious, they did this You can't. You don't do that with cartoons. Cartoons, you just don't do it. If you want a show to grow up with you, go to live action or read fanfictions. So, I don't know. Either way, let's continue. And Dang it, I messed that up. But you know what? Cartoons teach us that there's always second chances. Let's try that again. And >> the cult is already a darker theme. It is, but it also can be dealt in much darker ways. Starlight is scarring other ponies. She is mentally affecting them affecting them permanently.

45:18 We need to we need to show the long um rippling effects of what a cult can do to you. If you've watched any documentaries on cults, there was one I was watching the other day and it was about um one cult in particular that was very um very pedophilic. It was really bad. And uh one of the kids that grew up ended up killing themsel and it's like yeah that's really bad. Now I'm not saying like MLP has to has to has to go into like stuff like that. But just to show that Starlight was such a horrible pony and that the effects that she had on these ponies, we could have gotten episodes later. We could have had her friends her her friends that she made

46:05 after have a serious talk with her and be like, "Starlight, you really messed us up. We were really really really we believed in you and you." But there was none of that. They weren't traumatized at all. She was more traumatized than they were. And that makes it even more hard to call her a villain. >> Balls. Okay. So, I get that's one point that I get what he's saying with is, you know, they should have, and I know I'm repeating myself here, but they should have had an episode where somebody from the village, you know, they had something happen or they just couldn't get over the fact or or maybe have somebody No, I don't know how

46:52 they would have actually did that with the story. I was going to say or maybe have somebody who still was without their cutie mark and just stuck with the equal sign and they were in agreement with her and maybe she could have saw how bad off he was and then you know but you know at the same time or or she you know it doesn't matter who um I just I agree with that aspect of it. They should have had an episode where instead of the village just be happy golucky. Some of them be a little upset and they could have rewrote it a little bit, but for the most part, no, she's still a villain. Just because you don't kill somebody doesn't make you not a villain.

47:38 So yeah, I don't remember Chrysis killing anybody. Granted, she was sucking the life out of them, but at the same time, didn't kill nobody. I mean, if I look at, you know, Chrysalis the same way as I look at Discord, Chrysalis wasn't a villain either by that logic. She was just doing what she had to do to survive. Instead of, you know, getting love from her hive and feeding off their love and, you know, she shows love back and let them feed off her love, she was choosing to do what she only knew. She didn't know anything else, so she would go and feed off of the love of everyone else. So she didn't know any better. So can we consider her well?

48:25 Yeah, she did find out eventually that, you know, she did know better, but in the beginning, did she know better? She didn't know anything else, right? We I don't know. Whatever. Either way, let's continue. and split. >> Now, I could go into a lot of the initial parts of this episode, uh, Kitty Map part two, like that are really stupid. Um, for example, her having books, Starlight having books in the room that are full of equal signs. That's dumb. Like, why? Like you did you did you specifically make books with equal signs to everything in this

49:11 episode is just so far-fetched and ridiculous that it doesn't make >> pause. Actually, that does make sense. That's called indoctrination. She forces them. She's literally kidnapped them right now cuz I looked at the picture that he had on there. Granted, I don't know if it's the same one that I paused on here, but in the picture, you show the main six in a room by themselves with nothing but equal sign literature to sit there and read. So after being deprived of food, being deprived of sleep, being deprived of any outside contact, and all you got is this

49:58 these books full of equal signs, that is nothing but propaganda and indoctrination. So in all reality, they are showing you your little mature story that you wanted. It's just not in the way that you wanted. You wanted something mature, not, you know, brought to you, you know, you wanted something mature, made for you and your age and your liking as opposed to them catering to their target audience instead of and instead of reading between the lines and seeing what I just seen by just a a still frame shot, you choose to say it's stupid where I

50:43 choose to say, "Oh, Well, look at that. That's indoctrination. First, she kidnaps them, then she puts them and deprivives them of anything and everything, and then propagandize them. So, yeah, it's a matter of perspective. She's still a freaking villain. Let's play and any sense at all. Um, Starlight put the equal signs onto the main six, and the main six are slowly losing their talents, i.e., Uh, Applejack can't even speak country, which is stupid. Rarity doesn't know what fashion stuff is. Fluttershy can't talk to animals more. >> Pause. That is showing that they're losing their sense of

51:31 themselves. See what I mean about you're seeing it as stupid, but anyone and everyone else sees it as what it is? They are losing their sense of who they are. They're losing their humanity slash ponyity. I hate that word, but you know what? It works. Who cares? They're losing who they are. They've been in theirs for so long without their cutie mark that they have lost a sense of who they are. And all they've got is guess what? Books to read that shows nothing but equal signs. So guess what? We are all equal without our cutie marks. Propaganda. See, I could see this stuff by simply just seeing small little

52:18 snippets of it. But this this guy here, he just hates it to hate it. I I don't I don't get it. But let's continue. >> Pinkie Pie is literally just becoming Pink Amina. Um, okay. But like, why why is this? Uh if if if her equal sign if Starlight's equal sign replacement had the power to do this then for sure the ponies of her town having had the equal signs for so long would be completely subservient to her if they were literally losing who they are and completely like unable like the main six can't even run later. They're not even able to run because

53:04 they have the equal sign. It's just it's just so nonsensical the the beginning of this episode that I can't legitimately discuss it. It's it's it's it's all so dumb. So, I'll just talk about the the ending part of this and why again Starlight isn't like even villainous even towards the end when they're trying their best to make her look evil. The writers um so they're chasing after Starlight and the Pegasus is the one the black Pegasus one is the closest one to her. or she might be blue, blackish blue, whatever. Um, Starlight shoots the mountain with her magic instead of shooting the Pegasus. She could have easily shot the Pegasus with her magic, but she shoots the mountain to bury the Pegasus in the snow. A villain's not

53:51 going to do this. Why? If she didn't care about anything and she was truly a villain, she would have tried to kill the Pegasus while she's being chased. Then she breaks the bridge again. If she truly cared about being villain, like if she was evil, if she was a villain and her plans were ruined, there is no loss in killing these ponies in harming them. So again, breaking the bridge so that they don't follow her. That's weird. Why is she not just blasting them? If she would have been blasting them to begin, and you could say, well, it's for the sake of the story. And then Okay. So, in a kid show, you just want the v.

54:37 It just sounds like you want the villain to win and just shoot them. I'm sorry, but that's a realistic chase uh chase sequence. You You're not just going to shoot Maybe she was aiming for the Pegasus, but she missed and hit the dag on snow. Covered him in snow. That I mean, come on. I mean, and when you're being chased, you don't have time to sometimes think about, oh, I better shoot them with my laser beam from, you know, I'm trying to word that for YouTube's algorithm, by the way. You know, shoot them with their horn. I don't want them to think I'm talking about shooting people. Oh my goodness. Either way, either way, you're going to turn around and just do what comes, you

55:23 know, to your mind first. Oh, let me just take out the bridge so they can't continue after me. It's a children's show for freak's sake. >> That's bad writing. I don't know what to tell you. Um, then this scene where she blasts the three of them and Twilight protects them. It's again just so nonsensical. So, you didn't blast them the entire time and then as soon as Twilight got her cutie mark and she had the opportunity to protect them, then you blast them. This scene would have been amazing if Twilight got her cutie mark. And I would have been like, Starlight was a villain. If Twilight got her cutie mark, but then

56:09 she could have just teleported. What should have happened here is that some way that they write it and Starlight injures one of them horribly or kills them or does something not to the main six to one of her friends and she doesn't feel anything bad about that. And then Twilight like saves them the rest in some way. And Starlight is like I don't care. They don't mean anything to me and I will get rid of them. But it's not. We have all of this contrived writing, all of this nothing to I guess make it seem like she's a villain. But again, it's such weak villain writing that I can't take it seriously and it's not convincing that she's a villain. And I don't see how anyone else thinks that either.

56:55 So, if this video actually does well like the last one, I'm sure I'll get a bunch of screeching and yelling and disagreements. But, um, that's fine. Keep it clean. Just don't be a douche, please. Uh, if you disagree with me, that's fine. Disagree with me. What I say isn't law. I just provide the evidence of what I see and my perspective on things. Uh, if you think differently, cool. We can have disagreements. We can disagree with one another. That's how life works. People disagree with people. Not all the time is everyone going to agree 100% on everything. I will not debate facts. Starlight falls before he jumps into that because I'll probably be able to

57:42 have something to say about that. He's reiterating don't be a douche. And I agree with that. Hence the thumbs up stuff. I agree with that. Agree to disagree. It's that simple. I don't agree with him. I'm only, you know, I don't hate his opinion. I I adamantly disagree with it. Y'all can tell. But I'm not going to sit there and put him down as a person. Yes, I'm a little animated sometimes and a little, you know, like gr sometimes, but let's be real. If I just sat here calmly like, "No, she's not. She was a villain this whole time. That doesn't make sense. This is written for children. No, obviously I'm going to

58:29 share some emotion behind my words besides just being so monotone. I'm going to have a bit of emotion behind it and a bit of a exaggeration a little bit because honestly that that would be stupid to just sit here like monotone. But if you disagree with them, go over there and be nice about it. I do. I will be having a link down in the description and all that stuff. Um, just yeah, don't be a douche. Um, he's about to get on to a part where he's talking about he's not going to argue facts. So, he said something about she lies. So, let's continue on where he says some more facts and what he won't argue about. Uh, >> it did lie. That is a fact. She was a

59:17 liar. So, I can't really debate that. I will debate what I can debate. Um, and yeah, uh, this, uh, video wasn't going to be made. The this video was going to be um the start of episode 25 and 26 and talking about how great Starlight is and how poorly they did her past and stuff and get into the more um why she's not a villain because a true villain doesn't do things like that unless they're already established as a villain. I'll get into that in the next one. I, like I said, these Starlight episodes are going to be numerous because Starlight is my favorite character and she is incredibly complex.

1:00:03 Um, but yeah, uh hopefully someone enjoyed this video and hopefully it was understandable why again because you look at that top 10 list of people's favorite villains from films, Starlight could never even approach those. And it's not because she's a weak villain. It's because she's not a villain, she never was. And even if she was, they she she just she just can't be. I I could either consider her to be a villain and she's the worst written villain of all time and it's hilarious how bad the writers of Friendship is Magic are or she's not a villain and she's just an antagonist with a

1:00:49 different idea than Twilight and she was wrong. Uh yeah, that's that's my thoughts. Uh, I'll see y'all on the next one, which will be a lot more positive and be a lot more revealing into why Starlight is not anything like the other MLP villains because she isn't one. Okay. So, yes, I did just want to let it play out and just let him just say what he was going to say because I obviously did not want to just push pause again. Plus, my leg is really falling asleep and my knee's kind

1:01:35 of hurting sitting in this position for so long. Granted, I've done longer videos, but o I definitely pay the price afterwards, but yes, I'm sorry. She's a villain. I'm sorry to tell anybody and everybody because by that standard, Nightmare Moon wasn't a villain. I didn't see Tret kill anybody. I I I'm not going to list all the villains. I didn't see any villain kill anybody throughout the whole entirety of MLP. So, if we're going by the standard of him going through the top 10 villains based off of what Ranker says, no,

1:02:20 I can't go by that because this is My Little Pony we're talking about. Nobody has killed anybody in My Little Pony. Heck, I don't even think the dragons have killed anybody. Um, yeah. So, a villain is for My Little Pony, a villain is definitely not the same as a villain from Batman or a villain from Lord of the Rings or, you know, Pennywise or any of those villains because he's looking at that and saying they killed people. They're villains and that's what makes them a villain. Well, no. I mean, that's not the only thing that's villainous in this world. I mean, heck, I gave an example earlier of

1:03:06 how I'm a villain to somebody. Um, I'll go into it a just for like 20 seconds. To make a long story short with Kent Hovind, I'm I consider myself a villain of his because don't look him up, but you this is a side of my life y'all don't really know about. Well, unless y'all were y'all been on this channel for years upon years, but he's a young earth creationist and you know, yeah, it's no secret I'm a Christian. Um, I've always thought of him. Yeah. Yeah.

1:03:52 He's got some out there ideas, but I've always thought of him whenever I first came across him as like just an eccentric old grandpa type figure. But then I went down there to his little what what seems like a cult compound to me now. I went down there to visit for a weekend with my wife and it was very culty. A lot like Starlight's Village. We can see we can bring this back around. It's very culty. You walk around the place, everybody's sitting there. He's not a doctor, by the way. He bought his PhDs

1:04:39 from a place called Patriot Bible University or Patriot Bible College. I don't know. But he bought them. He paid for them. They're not real degrees, but everyone there is like, "Oh, did you say hey to Doc yet?" Hey, Doc. Doc, Doc, Doc. Everybody called him Doc. Like at some It was weird. It was so freaking weird. And then he's so far up into the conspiracy side of things. I could care less about the whole young earth creationism and evolution and all that stuff. The science is science. Let's be real. But he introduced me to somebody that lives in my area of all

1:05:26 places. I don't find it a coincidence that I came down there and mets with this guy who then introduces me to a guy who is lives in my town literally three miles down the road from me who did crimes against children. And I was the one, believe it or not, this guy's pretty big figure on the internet. And I was the one that exposed his weirdo relationship with this guy. And this Kent Hovven will defend this guy to the ends of the earth for some weird reason. But you know what? I'm the one who exposed that relationship. Hence, I'm his villain. He doesn't mention me in any video

1:06:13 because he knows that I had the moral high ground. And I did turn his life upside down because everyone found out about it. and he lost so many freaking donations that it was unbelievable. But he has not left his support for this convicted child molester. I'll just flat out say it. He introduced me to a guy who was a child molester and I absolutely hate that. So, yes, I relate to the villainous aspect of Starlight Glimmer because I've I've dealt with cults. I've dealt with cults before. Yes. Does

1:07:00 the show show the everlasting effects of cults? No, they don't show it. But at the same time, when you got somebody who is the leader of that cult, that person is evil. Can they change? Yes. But they are still a villain just because they don't kill nobody. We're talking about My Little Pony. You're not going to get people killing people on My Little Pony. this the the video the guy from the video we just watched together. He literally he thinks that My Little Pony is supposed to be this masterpiece of just such a well organized well

1:07:46 written just everything about it should just be the most wonderful thing ever. It should grow up with you. It should do this. I've watched new I've watched like four of his videos so far. I know I've done commentary on this is my third one I've done commentary on and he just he he thinks that it's supposed to be as mature as we are as adults. No, it's targeting children. You're not going to get people killing people in it. Oh my gosh, this guy ticks me off sometimes. But I don't want to get upset and insult him and stuff like that cuz that's not the kind of person I am. I don't believe in insulting someone just because they got an opinion. This is a freaking

1:08:32 cartoon, so I don't care at the end of the day. So, with all that said, I know that was a bit of a weird side tangent, me talking about Ken Hovind's cult, but it's part of my life. I I wasn't ever going to join it because I got a little bit too much common sense for that. But at the same time, holy crap, that was weird timing in my life. H. Either way, I'm chatting up. Y'all turn. Hit the like, tickle to subscribe. Don't be texting and driving. And as Mr. Rogers always says, >> I like you just the way you are.

1:09:21 Huh? Ow.
