00 okay 2005 Mercedes uh E320 we have a misfire and uh I worked on this car a week ago or so and I uh cleaned up the EGR valve and it was working fine for a while now what happens I got the EGR valve that control uh the vacuum line unplugged when I now paying attention to this um uh shaft here at the wild itself when I put the vacuum back on it moves you see how the engine actually misfires right now now we have unwanted vacuum coming to the uh BGR valve itself so let's go ahead and look at the uh this shaft again there's the
49 diaphrag right there now when I when I unplug the vacuum this sh going to go back down it's going to close the valve see that and and just moves down now we have to make sure is it let's see let's do this again let it moov shouldn't do that there you go so I'm having a vacuum right here on this uh on this U vacuum line that I shouldn't have at the so it is controlled by this um actuator here this guy here now we have to make
36 sure that we don't have a control wire short it to ground and it's energized now uh we can actually simply unplug the valve unplug this electrical connector if I still have a vacuum on this uh on this actuator here then uh mechanically it's stuck it's stuck open this guy here so let's go ahead this is this is the uh electrical connector I'm going to unplug it and roll out the computer issue or or unwanted current okay I got the oxidor unplugged say this guy here I'm going to connect the hose again and the same thing happens again
24 so that the activator is mechanically stuck open and activates the EGR wall now we can uh okay okay so the car is still misfires I got the uh connector uh unplugged and uh something else also we can do uh we can actually measure a temperature between the exhaust manifold and uh this hose here but now it's not that important you know that the AGR valve is stuck in the open position but it's not the valve itself it's the o actually controls the uh valve to the EGR now unplugging the uh connector we know it's not electrically shorted uh it's now we
10 don't have issues with um the um the control side now let's take the screwdriver and tap on this valve itself and see if it's going to unstuck itself okay I think it's yeah see right now that that it's working so this is kind of intermittent problem and you can see now when I uh move my uh hose this shaft here it's not going to move anymore there you go so now it's going to work for a while it's going to get stuck open so I don't need to uh get another um actuator and uh it'll be
55 it'll be fine okay I got the replacement part uh on this car actuator comes with a EGR valve itself but on Med make and models you're going to have actuator actually somewhere else so you need to know what is the problem is the EGR W that stucks open or is it the actuator that's uh intermittently get stuck open of course and you have to make sure the electrically it's not uh shorted that it will actually as soon as you turn maybe the if it's a ground size switched you got a constant power and the ground side the control wies is show it to ground and electrically will uh will uh energize the actuator the easiest way to do is actually just get M clamp on this on this circuit and if you got no current you you you're done
41 you're you're uh again you can unplug it and do the tap test and uh see if that make a difference or not so uh anyhow on this car we just going to replace the the whole unit and uh they should take care of it now to replace it uh you're going to have a uh there you got to take this B nut off the um of the pipe and then uh there's going to be two bolts on the side uh actually the top there's one here I'm sorry there's one here and then one here and um it's not too bad just got to get this moved and uh now I think what you got to do actually also to a unplug this injector here that's going to be so much you're
27 going to be able to get to this bolt here and um all right shouldn't be too bad all right now to get this connect you just have to kind of squeeze these two tabs pretty hard actually to I couldn't do it with with one hand you have to you have to get two hands on it okay the first step I did um I loose loosen up this knot here notot I'm sorry and uh I just use this wrench which I actually got on eBay just end of the day this kind of self-locking pipe wrench it actually worked pretty well um got it for like $2 and so next step you be you got to take this bolt off and of course uh this one here now I I got my injector unplugged and the actuator unplugged and
14 um so you're going to use a t no E12 okay and uh what it would be good to have a uh extension of the wobble tip and it just need just a little bit of a clearance to get to the uh because it's not a straight shut down because of the fuel rail so you got a fuel rail here and if you have this type of extension you're going to have a little bit of an angle and uh you you should be able to still little kind of uh in a way but I think you can get your socket on your on your on your bolt now see if I get it Loose I need two hands
00 see this one here got to use both both hands to uh get now uh something else you got to take this hose off okay just move it to the side and uh I've got this uh B loose there you go yeah you got to have some type of uh tool that will give you a little bit of an angle to get to that bolt underneath the fuel rail because it's not the uh
46 it's not a straight shot there so I'm hoping that uh I can just pull the ugr valve off I don't have to loosen up yeah nice okay I was concerned that I might have to get the to these two bolts here here which I actually did the last time because I had to clean up this uh pipe as well but there's H you can actually move it out just a little bit enough to I uh move the egi all out now I lost my uh gasket but I got a new one they're going to have a gasket right on right there so make sure and uh so this is your uh supply line your vacuum supply line here so let's just uh for you guys who don't understand how this works so the um this is basically a vacuum
33 control EGR valve and uh computer controls the the vacuum to a so the vacuum is basically the energy that's needed to open a valve itself so this is the this is the EGR valve down here it's it's the diaphragm and we could see the diaphragm was moving because we had a uh vacuum applied to valve itself now the EGR system on the gasoline cars the EGR valve is never never open at the idle and it's never open at the wide open throttle now in order for the computer to a control the vacuum to a EGR valve there has to be some type of a valve in between now computer can only open and close the electrical circuits and um in order to a uh control the Val the vacuum
19 that has to be a valve so this is a actuator here it's basically everything works of the magnetic field Spring and uh and the PIN basically and uh so here is that part that actually computer controls you can see you got two wires here the power and ground it can be a power side or ground side switched and the computer is going to energize the the um uh control side of the circuit now once the current start going through this uh actuator that's going to be a magnetic field created and the magnetic field is going to overcome a uh spring tension on this valve and it's going to pull the valve open and then uh the vacuum is going to start flowing through this valve and it will be applied to a EGR valve itself now what we don't want
05 to do what we don't want to have is actually vacuum at the idle is actually vacuum be applied to the valve all the time so uh this valve was mechanically stuck open but also we could have a as I said before we can have actually problem with a um control side of the circle is energized all the time now something else we have to make sure that uh so every time you have a this type of a circuit this type of the uh EGR valve vacuum EGR valve we have to make sure that we have a sufficient vacuum Supply and a vacuum Supply always come from the uh from the intake manifold itself and we can see this hose here is the hose it actually goes to a uh so this we kind of wraps around to
52 the right and that goes right there so that's the that's the a uh Supply vacuum Supply to a actuator itself so the uh we have vacuum on this side of the actuator all the time but once the ACT is is a is a um so it goes all the way through here and then goes wraps around and then um and uh so vacuum comes this way and then goes out into the valve so right inside of it this vacuum has to be stopped and um at the idle and uh so okay I mean you guys have you have a idea what I'm talking about so uh what I need to do now is uh unplug this uh hose and so you also have to make sure that
37 we don't have any cracks in the hose and sometimes the hose itself deteriorate and they would get kind of get pinched so um okay so I'm going to get this off and install the new wve and uh we should be good so what you're going to do just U you know get some kind of a tool ply or whatever and uh pull this off well I'm want going to do a quick review of the tool my as well I got the uh couple of these pliers uh there is from kentmore and uh they are designed for a um a valve stem removal and uh they're kind of different size you can see but these I don't do any kind of rebuilding of the engines but these PLS are perfect for clamps the the hose clamps and uh for a uh removal of the hoses as well so
25 uh you can see it has a little serration inside of it and uh just grab the hose and you pull it right off it's really nice tool for a uh works great there you go I wish they had it one size smaller but it works it works fine for this size of uh hoses as well so uh but anyhow this is a u see km- 46116 D1 I got all this off of eBay and this one is uh j-
11 38820 all right let's get the uh pgr valve replaced and uh test it again all right for installation you got to make sure you got your gasket that if you don't have one that was it would be always good to get a new one but uh you just um position a gasket right right there and um if you don't have new one you have to find the old one because it's going to cause problems if you don't have this uh gasket on now the first step you're going to do you're going to take the EGR Vol assembly and this uh pinol at the bottom here will be hooked up to this uh V to this uh vacuum hose here okay just uh just like that so these two will go together I have to have two hands to do it so uh once you do that you're just going to put your
56 gasket on turn the valve this way put it in here and put the bolts on okay okay got my gasket there I got this uh hose the hose hooked up to my EGR valve now when you do this it's always good to actually replace this part of the hose it goes right into the uh into the uh intake manifold right there and you just slowly get your pump in place and I think you need to flip this over like that there you go and uh it's really easy I mean there nothing to it right there and uh pretty much good you got to make sure nothing is pinched and
42 uh let's see I think actually it's better if this goes the this way there we go there you go it's better all right so this is how going to look like on that side all right and now you just take your bolts you have to Lin up your um gasket that's a little bit of a hustle it's not too bad when you have two hands every one actually this side is actually lined up already I think all right so I got this
27 end now my my gasket is secured I just need to move it see that you can see the gasket underneath now I have to see there see this hole here let's see where is that right there so you can the gasket is not lined up 100% so I have just take something and uh little pick put in this hole a little bit and it should be lined up now it's close enough all right and now take your bolt slide it in all right it
22 works so that's good tighten it down but you got to have this type of um socket I mean extension to and then get this guy back into place there we go okay now it's engaging okay and now at this point I just have to tighten everything down and your connector it just go straight in and just snaps into place the same thing on the uh on the
09 um injector now on the injector I use the pliers on this end to squeeze these tabs because you got to unplug this injector because you cannot get to this bolt all right so uh got the bolts tightened down uh got the connector back in again you just have to push it in I mean it's uh you know it's easy and uh the connector and my uh injector is back in now this hose I make sure there's a little bracket here make sure this hose goes on top of it and uh this is pretty easy and uh everything's good that should should work now all right it's running good and uh you can see the uh pin itself I'm going
56 to try that one second it's a new H it's some new pliers okay so we can see there no difference of course now we this actuator is should work as well I don't have a b directional control to energize the actuator I could uh go here figure out what the control wire but I'm I don't want to do it because this was mechanically suck so I'm happy with it so this will be fine and um so anyhow this is what you can do get to this hose here pull it out if the engine starts working fine you can actually look at the uh this uh Pinter here if the Pinter goes back down then your'll problem is actuator and the best would be to unplug
44 the uh unplug the connector do the same thing and uh you still have a issue then uh your o is is uh stuck open tap the screwdriver goes back to normal you need the new uh uto s all right guys thank you so much and see you next time byebye
