01 Hi everybody and welcome to Traveling with Russell and welcome to the suburbs of Moscow to Romanceva Sports Park and we're here to see an event with clay target shooting. Let's go! I know I'm at the right place because there's a lot of flags and banners up everywhere letting you know about which way to go, which way to walk. Absolutely beautiful. part of Moscow this there's actually some very beautiful parks that you can go to in this area it's actually walking distance from Romans of a metro station in the southwest of Moscow actually the other beautiful park nearby is Trapaiova Park
48 if you're from Moscow you probably know it if not this is something completely new so the event is coordinated between the local Administration of Moscow, obviously the mayor's office, and I think the... ...shooting association of Moscow, or perhaps Russia. I'm not the best at knowing things until I get here. So there is a very nice wood building here. Now, I understand this is all new in the last two years. There is actually a restaurant here, which I'm not planning to do any eating. And there is a shop which I think might be interesting to go and see. I might do
37 that a little bit later. And if you have watched old videos on the channel, I've been to a store which actually has this shop inside. I know I'm saying it in riddles a little bit. Just have a look at this particular lobby area though because it is quite something. Now this is the main entrance to go into the complex. Now look at the wood. Holy smoke, it actually smells like banya, like dacha. This wood is super nice.
23 This is pretty impressive. And this is just the entrance. So actually for the people that are taking part, they can do registration here and then also kind of understand about what's going on. And then this is where I want to go a little bit later and have a look in this shop. This particular sporting club has actually got a couple of different disciplines that they've set up here. So this building on the right-hand side is actually an indoor shooting complex. So there's no scheduled events here today. It's a very big place that they've built and what they're actually holding the competition in is ski
08 shooting trap shooting what I really understand it as clay target shooting I think a little bit later they'll have trophy presentation just here she can hear an airplane going overhead we're very close to the new cover airport also it's about 10 minutes down the road nice cafe romance of a cafe somebody bringing all their gear if you don't want to sit inside you can sit in this other igloo which is actually heated although today you don't need
54 even a jacket so this complex has been here about two years This is the third year of the competition or the event that they're hosting here. Hello. And there is events held for ladies and for men. And then also there is an open age and then there's juniors. I am hoping to try to chat to somebody who can give me at least a few of the basics. and the different competition going on
44 basically yesterday and today and then all the way down this pathway are the different zones i guess the different sections now this is number one right here And I think this is actually the ladies that are taking part. There is actually a scoreboard telling you the name of the entrance. Also when they hit and miss the targets as well. And the one thing I was talking is no talking or as little talking as possible.
35 it's kind of like golf or tennis is the best way i was explained although it's a very loud sport you have to be very quiet when they're shooting although they're wearing earmuffs so you can as I walk through the complex. These booths here or little houses are set up that you can come and shoot socially, obviously following all the rules and guidelines for gun ownership. And you
22 can rent the bays. Of course, this is a public range. goes into this spot. I understand that there is some Russian national team members here as well. Let's see if we can find somebody taking part in one of the other disciplines. So the whole territory here on the map. So there's actually eight zones. And then where we came in here at the entrance and then the indoor complex as well, along with a few other
14 amenities. This particular competition is actually open to anybody in Russia so not just locals in Moscow so there is actually competitors that have come from other regions of Russia for this particular event and of course a sport like this is rather niche so you want to take advantage when an event's on in the category that you're involved in
05 There is actually a computer here, so I'm making that the traps that come out are randomized based on this computer. And then there's the different positions that they get fired out of. At the moment, they fire spot right there. It's interesting, they've got like covers over the trees. It's not a particularly easy sport to watch. You've really got to concentrate as much as the shooters are because it happens so quickly. They call the pull and then the randomizer then sends out the targets.
01 These girls are absolutely sharpshooters. next area here actually has two levels so there's an upstairs range where they're shooting from downstairs and we'll say this over and over it's a beautiful area where we are here and you know to see this sport up close it's kind of tough The best of what I understand is they've got different shooting positions that they shoot
50 from. So, and also the targets come from different heights, so low and high. I wonder who the person is who collects all of the clay after this, because there's a lot to pick up. that lady who just was the last shooter there she missed one target in 25 that's very impressive and the guys that are going up next
40 i think they're all probably even jealous to miss one in 25 incredible and much concentration going into what they're doing and it's interesting to see the previous shooter when somebody's on the range how they're actually having a look at the same time so interesting really it's something i've never seen in person before
32 Just that noise now, of course, taking away headgear, earmuffs and all sorts of things. I will say is I'm fairly sure YouTube doesn't like this type of
20 content and hopefully it makes it on the channel otherwise I'm making a video that'll probably just be unlisted and maybe you're watching it because you got a link to it or somehow it's been published I think there's a lot of guidelines about the usage of the implements they're using. And I can be very literal about it all, or I can be cryptic. You're watching what I'm showing you, so you understand fully, I think.
11 When I go home, tonight I'm gonna see if there's anything on YouTube about the sport and maybe there's some highlights from the Olympics I don't know do people attend this as spectators now what I'm really seeing here is mostly just family members and the shooters themselves it's obviously a beautiful day today to spend it coming out to events definitely a following for it though so it's actually coming down to the last few rounds so over the course of two days they've had
01 multiple rounds and they actually mix the shooters two groups of five and they have 25 shots and I think it totals 150 for the whole event and then they come up with a winner or alternatively if there is a draw then they'll have a shoot off at the end now there's a really interesting gentleman over here now I don't want to be so intrusive however he is a gold Olympic champion So it's really interesting. Somebody, when I first got here, actually told me that there is an Olympic champion shooting here today. And I looked up who it
50 was. I've actually seen him just now shooting. And it turns out that he won the gold medal in Athens in 2004. And who came third was an Australian. So he was the gold medalist and the Australian that was a bronze medalist. It's so interesting. One thing I found out while I've been here is about the range and this particular location. There's a lot of factors that go in to the building of this and the surroundings, the trees, the color of the fences in the background so that it's easy to shoot,
39 easy to recognize the clay targets. I think the one thing that's difficult to get used to when you come to an event like this for the first time is the actual sound and then that reverberation as well. So you can see them shooting, but no matter how far you are away from them or close to them, you still have that natural reaction to jump and to almost make a reflex. Although it's completely safe what they're doing. I decided to stick around till the end because the ladies competition, they have a shoot off because of the way the
25 scoring worked and the lady or at least one of them is actually the daughter of the Russian Olympic champion. is Maria Alipova and the father is Alexei Alipov and actually just turned around and smiled right there so everybody is gathered for this final shoot off all the men have come over because I think they want to see the ladies shooting I think there's more following for the ladies than what there is for the guys If you're wondering what they're all competing for, they've got all the trophies set out and I think they're gonna have the
12 presentation. Lots of people have gathered around. So the main trophies will go to the highest scoring man and woman in the open category and then in the junior categories. So I've actually managed to find somebody here to chat to about the event today. Now let everybody know your name. Hello, my name is Nikita and I'm 18 years old. Okay, and where are you from? I'm from Moscow. Are you born in Moscow? No, I'm born in Novosibirsk. Novosibirsk? Yes, in Siberia. And you've moved to Moscow? Yes, yes. And did you take part in the events today? Yes. And which category were you? Trap. Trap Junior. Trap Junior. And how well did you do? I won the first
02 place. First place. Now, three minutes ago I came up to you and asked you if I can ask some questions. And I didn't know that you'd won the whole competition. So, are you happy? Yes, I'm happy. Was it a tough event today? I think, yes. Is it sunny weather, like, problems for you, or? It's not a problem for me. Nothing's a problem for you. But what are some of the difficulties? Maybe the wind, if it's different background. I think foggy. Fog? Yes. We have fog sometimes in Moscow. In the early morning we got fogs. Okay. And this was a two-day event, and this is day two. And then from here what happens? You go to another competition next month
51 or? Next month I'll travel to Krasnodar. Oh, okay. Yes, and it will be another competition, junior competition. Okay, and so you're, you said you're 18? Yes, I'm 18. And then when do you then step up to the open age group? What is 21? 22. 22 is the... And how long have you been shooting for? Like, when did you start? I started... Officially, I don't know, unofficially. I started in 2019. Okay, so that's six years ago? Yes, about six years old. And do you have aspirations like world championships?
37 Maybe. Olympics? Well, of course there's some difficulties now with Russians competing. Two years ago I was in the Russian national team and maybe in the next year I'll be joining the Russian national team and take part in international competition. Wow, and then as you go up in the age categories it gets like more nerve-wracking for you because I saw here today there is Olympic champion here, Alexey. Alexey Alipov. Yeah? Do you have, is he a hero for you in sport, right? Of course, of course. To reach the Olympic, the top step of the Olympic podium, it's not quite the same as the one here and you're doing school?
Oui, oui.
13 But... A little bit bigger I think. Ah, this one is just a souvenir one? Yes. Okay. You're amazing. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thanks for being on the video. So Maria there who won the ladies. She's going up to get her trophy. And I'm sure her dad, wherever he is, will be super proud. to see her win the junior ladies division and Nikita who we talked to only a few minutes ago there we go that was completely unplanned and
04 in front of all his fellow shooters, he took the top step of the podium. Wow, that's really cool. What a way to end the part of the video and his friends and colleagues. I thought we could have a little look around the gift shop at the end and I think maybe everyone's not watching by now, but if you are, that's great. And they've got lots of different knives here, I'm sure for hunting, fishing, camping. Also
55 accessories glasses all the different types. cases I'm not sure their ear protection so I will put a link to this place in the description of the video and actually where I am generally because it might be interesting if you're in Moscow or particularly if you want to come to the shop and have a look lots of shoes hunting gear, clothes. I think these jackets, lots of people are wearing
41 these today. If you need something. And then come around to the different, I guess you can call them rifles. Plenty of accessories and different things. lights and then the different models. Now I did actually go to one of the hunting expos that was in Moscow. I'll try and put a link to that in the description also and a card.
28 The brands that you see here were quite heavily promoted at that event that I went to. Maybe it's like crossbow, like a pistol version. That's pretty neat. Oh, multi-tools. These are cool. Okay, these are like the really fancy Leatherman. And then scopes, all the different brands of them. Different types. Pretty interesting. Let's
15 go through to the other room here. They've actually got a pretty sophisticated system set up. You can also do online shopping from their website as well and some of the brands. When I moved into my apartment, now it's coming back about three years ago now, there was a gun safe on the balcony And when we went to look at the apartment on the first viewing, the owner said, the only thing I need from the apartment is the gun safe and everything else can stay in the apartment. So all the furniture, and I guess because of the prices of them and something like that. So you've got quite a few different models and types. Some
08 Pistols, I guess they're called. Now, one thing I will ask of everybody though is if you have any specific questions about this place, put them in the comments. I do want to go back to another shop that I found that has quite a large assortment of different items. And I want to ask questions about it. And based on everybody's replies to this video, I will put them together and ask about them. I've got all sorts of different, I guess, shells, bullets and things like that.
59 Some cases back there. So yeah, bespoke. quite specific models so there is a mixture here of what I call live fire weapons and also some non firing weapons as well any of them look familiar let me know What do you think? Were you expecting this on a video today? I'm very curious. As I head on
46 out of Romanciba Sports Park, I hope this was an interesting video and to be able to chat to one of the competitors. That was pure luck. I actually went over to a group of guys. There was about five of them hanging around together and I figured being that they're student age, one of them would be able to answer some questions in English. And it turns out it was the junior men's champion. So just my luck today. And actually also the father of the ladies junior champion. I actually chatted to him off camera and such a nice guy. He told me he'd been to Australia quite a few times, obviously for the Olympics and different things. So
34 yeah, it's been a great day, great location. maybe no views I don't know and I think the clay target I think it's clay pigeon so we'll have the word pigeon as the secret word so if we get the word pigeon in the video you made it to the very end thumbs up post a comment and if you want to watch or follow me on social media let's do that one first It's right here. And if you want to watch an old video on the channel, the link is right here. And you can keep traveling with Russell. Okay, everybody. I'm off on another adventure. Bye.
