Brief Summary

The video covers several topics related to Islam, addressing questions about the Quran, the concept of dua, intentions for daily tasks, neighbours' rights, dealing with interpersonal conflicts, spiritual emptiness, and the proper upbringing of children. Key takeaways include the importance of context in Quranic verses, how unanswered prayers may serve a greater purpose, and the necessity for kindness and good intentions in interactions with others.

  • The Quran addresses different audiences based on context.
  • Unanswered dua may lead to better outcomes in the long run.
  • Intentions transform ordinary actions into acts of worship.
  • Maintaining good relationships with neighbours is crucial.
  • Spiritual struggles should not lead to feelings of hypocrisy.

Understanding Quranic Addresses

The lecture starts by explaining why the Quran sometimes addresses the Prophet Muhammad (saw) directly and at other times addresses the believers more broadly. It indicates that these addresses vary depending on the context, such as addressing humanity collectively or specifically targeting actions of the messenger or believers. The example given highlights significant topics like divorce, where the Prophet is directly addressed, yet lessons are applicable to all believers due to the revered status of the messenger.

The Nature of Dua

The speaker discusses the reality of unanswered dua, emphasizing that sometimes prayers may seem unanswered due to the individual's circumstances. It is pointed out that conditions such as consuming haram (forbidden) substances can affect the acceptance of dua. However, the speaker reassures that Allah may respond in ways that an individual does not expect, and involves trusting Allah's timing and wisdom.

Turning Daily Tasks into Worship

The importance of intention is highlighted in this section, explaining how clear, focused intentions can turn mundane daily activities into acts of worship. The speaker encourages viewers to consciously align their thoughts and motivations with the pursuit of pleasing Allah during everyday actions. By maintaining a mindset of worship throughout the day, one can transform even simple tasks into meaningful acts of devotion.

Neighbourly Rights

The discussion moves to neighbours' rights in Islam, emphasising the inherent value of kindness and non-harm. The speaker mentions hadiths that underline the significance of maintaining a good relationship with neighbours and encourages practical acts of good will, such as small gifts or helping those in need, thereby reinforcing community ties.

Addressing Wronged Relationships

The speaker tackles how to maintain a good opinion of someone who has wronged you, stressing the need for a believer to learn lessons from these interactions without holding onto bitterness. The importance of balancing good-naturedness while also protecting oneself from repeated harm is discussed, advocating forgiveness while being mindful of personal boundaries.

Spiritual Emptiness

This section explores feelings of spiritual emptiness, clarifying that such feelings do not equate to hypocrisy. The speaker explains that fluctuations in one's spiritual state are part of the human experience, urging listeners to persist in worship and practice despite these challenges. The importance of intention and continuing to engage in acts of worship is emphasized to foster a deeper connection with Allah.

Raising Children Toward Iman

The video provides insights on raising children in a nurturing manner without instilling fear. The speaker stresses that children’s perception of their parents heavily influences their view of Allah. A soft approach with emphasis on kindness instead of harsh punishment is recommended to foster a healthy relationship with religion and spirituality.

Understanding Burnout

Finally, the speaker discusses burnout among committed Muslims, warning against excessive adherence to rigorous standards of worship without balance. He advocates for a moderate approach, sharing that burnout could result from overwhelming oneself with religious obligations. The video encourages viewers to reflect on their worship practices and adjust them to maintain enthusiasm and sincerity in their faith.

0:47 Okay, my dear friends. Allah bless you all. Uh alhamdulillah. Let's start. Something has gone wrong. Why are you offline? uh streaming. Okay. Alhamdulillah. Okay.

1:32 Alhamdulillah. Okay. So, alhamdulillah, Allah bless you all. Um, feel free to uh post your questions. Um, what I have done today is I made a slight amendment uh to the layout on my screen. So, inshallah we won't have any um mic mishaps. U if you just bear with me a second. Right. So I've got a few questions here.

2:19 So feel free to type your questions and um let me get through these and then uh I'll come to yours. Okay. Why does the Quran sometimes address the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam directly and sometimes the believers? Um good question. So this is what um the context entails, right? Sometimes Allah sometimes um Allah subhana wa ta will address all of humanity and sometimes he'll address the messenger of Allah sallam and sometimes the believers at times the address is specifically for the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam such as for example

3:07 where the messenger of Allah um he swore um spending time with one of his concubines because his because of longer incident. But anyway, he Allah said, "Yeah, oh prophet, why are you making something Allah has permiss made permissible for you? Why you making it permiss impermissible for yourself through an oath?" Um so the address is directly to the prophet and sometimes it's to the wording is to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam but the rest of the intent is actually for the believers and this is one of the the the contexts where um you can see that the address is very very you know serious such as right

3:56 Allah says Oh prophet when you So he addresses the prophet and then he says when you but then uses the word plural the plural form for all of the believers believing men when you divorce uh ladies when you when you divorce ladies then you know make sure you follow the rulings of the which are discussed by the fukah that's the general idea of the ayah and why is that then because there was a lot of dul in Arabian society before Islam came. You know, a man would divorce a wife his wife and then take her back and divorce her and take her back and divorce her and take her back and she'd be left hanging. So neither being treated like a wife, treated well with kindness and you know like the prophet taught sallallahu

4:43 alaihi wasallam nor free to move on to marry someone else. So if you actually look at the you know the the uh the number of verses there are inah and the number of times uh and and the the severe warnings that have been mentioned in the surah about fearing Allah you know you'll find that it's the strongest reminder in the Quran when it comes to tawa fear Allah fear Allah fear Allah uh yes it might not be a long surah but it's been mentioned more you know real estate wise let's talk about it like like that there's there's more mention of tawa and fearing Allah and you know reminders of people past people who were punished in surah talak than there are in other suras. So hence when the address is to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam initially and

5:29 then to the rest of the believers then it's really serious like the believers will think you know instead of addressing us directly address his messenger so you know he applies to everyone more so right because he started at the very top you know with the messenger of Allah and then applying it to everyone else um so and sometimes it's it's um so sometimes it's direct directly addressed to the messenger of Allah. Sometimes it's the messenger of Allah, he's intended uh he's addressed but everyone else is intended. And sometimes uh we we see that Allah sometimes Allah subhanana wa ta'ala you see you got to explore every every situation based on the context. Um uh sometimes Allah subhana

6:14 wa ta'ala will address uh or speak about the believers or one set or speak about the prophet before addressing the believers to lighten what's being said. Like in surah tba there were the three people believers good believers who were supposed to make preparations and go to tabuk the military campaign with the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam but due to procrastination you know they didn't go. So then um Allah subhana t said you know Allah you know saying that Allah has accepted and relented to the messenger of Allah and the believers when when the messenger of Allah and and the others who went had hadn't done anything but then he said and the three who were left behind so

7:01 the point was actually to get to the three but in order to not single them out Allah addressed it Allah addressed it so is it's um directed towards the messenger of Allah, the other believers and then them. So just it's like you know it's like imagine someone has uh children and he doesn't just want to focus on one who's doing something really bad. So he gives them all the reminder, right? So it's something like that. So it's really dependent on on the context and sometimes it's you know changing who you're speaking to has a stronger rhetorical impact. Like in Allah says On the day when when the little girl who was the baby who's buried alive or the

7:47 little girl who was buried alive is asked, she's questioned. For what crime was she killed? She didn't do anything wrong and she didn't commit a crime. She's just a little girl. But the parents who did that, it's almost like they're not even worth talking to. So you go, you're not even going to be addressed. And the child is asked. And so this actually heightens and highlights you know the significance of this crime but don't do it. So there some of these um uh reasons why the messenger of Allah is sometimes a dress and sometimes the believers and Allah knows best. Allah why is there any reality of a dua that seems to go unanswered?

8:34 Allah the reality of a dua of a dua that is unanswered will be a that will be a dua where someone hasn't um fulfilled the conditions of a dua such as having haram food in you haram clothing haram you know drink or everything you know you've been nourished by the haram uh those the messenger of Allah said sallallahu alaihi wasallam he said forah He talked about a man on a journey with haram clothing and you know he's been eating he's been nourished by the haram and he lifts his hands up even in a desperate state y he said how you know would would someone like that be be answered although there are situations

9:19 where Allah subhanana wa ta'ala could answer someone regardless um even you know a disbeliever having only eaten haram and having only worn and you engage in the haram, Allah can still answer that person. Who is it that answers the one who desperately calling when he does call? So that's a dua that won't be answered, right? But generally it could be uh okay but I the question that the intent of the question uh is the person saying that you know we make dua for years even sometimes oh Allah take care of this oh Allah give me this oh Allah remove this oh Allah oh Allah Allah why isn't it answered so the first thing we need to do is look at what Allah says

10:07 and your loving lord said call on me I will surely respond you know wholeheartedly you say you know like like with everything so I will I will surely respond. So did Allah say I will give you exactly what you asked for? No. Did Allah say I will respond? I will you call on me I will respond? Yes. There's a distinction. So uh the best way the best explanation is uh the explanation that I've seen anyway is the explanation um you know where the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam you know he he encouraged us to make a dua right and he says that Allah will continue Allah will answer a person you know as long as a

10:53 person doesn't say I called on Allah I asked Allah I supplicated and he didn't respond no because you don't know when the answer will come and you don't know how it will come. Call on Allah. The actual dua is an iada. The dua is a way of showing your slavehood to Allah. The dua is a way of worshiping Allah. So don't stop that. You may ask for things and they may not be good for you. You may ask for things that are good for you but not right now. You may ask for things that are bad for you and Allah will just turn them aside. So what does Ahmed say? He said,

11:45 "Don't let the delay in what Allah gives, even though you've been persisting and pleading in your supplication, cause you to lose hope." Why? Allah has guaranteed a response, right? You read at the time when he wants and he'll give you what he deems good for you. So, it's not it's not a you like your Uber Eats, you open it up and I fancy, you know, uh a chicken tikka masala today. And you and you expect a chicken tikka masala because you paid the payment for it. if they come and give you some fish and chips, you're going to be having words with them. It's not like that. We can't demand anything of God. We can't take anything, you

12:30 know, that Allah doesn't want to to send our way. So, we're slaves. And when you get this idea, that's when you get an understanding behind why the supplications are delayed. And we know the prophet told us either Allah gives you exactly what you want or he averts an equivalent harm or or uh he will delay uh that you know and he'll give you the reward for it in the and when people see the mountains of rewards for the unanswered unanswered duas uh they'll wish that none of their duas had been answered because the rewards they'll see are far superior and they last forever. So the reality of

13:19 the reality of this matter is Allah that Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what's best for you. He's know he knows what's best for me. Yet sometimes we can sit there frustrated and some so in that situation you just say oh Allah you know help me be content with what you've chosen. Help me accept what you've chosen. Let me see that your plan for me is better than my plan for myself. And that's what we do. So don't take your side against Allah. Take Allah's side. And that's the nature of it, right? And sometimes honestly it's I mean the same thing like you can have a father for example a father and someone approaches uh him for for his daughter's hand and he sees this guy doesn't work.

14:06 The guy the guy is lazy. he's got no morals, no ethics and you know just even if if he's you know just a handsome man uh he he won't approve. Why? Because it's not good for his daughter and this is what he sees outwardly and Allah knows the reality of things. The inner reality you might be asking oh Allah oh Allah oh Allah you know give me this give me this give me this and it might not be good for you. So trust what he does, what he gives, when he gives, how he gives. That's the best way. Allah. Okay. I just noticed noticed this. Uh did you intentionally color match the Kufi jacket? Yeah, I do like a bit of

14:51 color coding. Color coordination. Okay. How do I turn ordinary daily work into worship? Allah. I mean this is very straightforward. Intention. Intention. Do intend Allah with it. Right? When you go to sleep, intend I'm going to rest so I can wake up and worship Allah. When you get out of bed, I'm going to live the day in because Allah gave it to me as a blessing. I'm going to worship Allah through it. You'll be getting intention, you know, throughout the day. When you cook for someone, I'm going to feed, you know, feed people. And when you eat, I'm going to eat so I can worship Allah. These basic in intentions are what turn

15:38 what they call as was it imani in his he says this this what turns like habitual ordinary mundane tasks into when you go to work you know you're going to provide for you know you're going to work so you can provide for yourself and your dependence. the same thing. The point is intend good and even if you can't do it, um it's useful, right? Because you'll get the reward of it. You'll get the reward of having done it even if you didn't do it. One narration says that the intention of a believer is superior to his action. And so this is what you should do. you should want like you know there's a there's a hadith I was uh um

16:27 there are two particular hadith but anyway that you know so for example if if you see someone with a lot of wealth and this person spending it you know looking after his dependence he spends it on charity he spends it in the things that will please Allah you don't have that wealth if you wish if you intend or if I had that wealth I'd do the same you'll get the same reward as him for doing it and you for intending it providing the intentions you know you know true so that's what you do just any act of worship uh intend Allah with it also you know the good that you do um bring the messenger of Allah into it sallallahu alaihi wasallam for example you've come home from work you're going

17:13 to go inside your family there your wife there your kids there and instead of just walking in and just right I'm just going to sit with them and have dinner whatever no go in and intend you know I'm going to try to be how the messenger of Allah was sallaihi wasallam and this will supercharge it this you'll benefit yourself and them more because if you're trying to be like that actively aware of this in your mind then you might not snap at someone who you know drops a glass and spills water all over your nice new white carpet or spills coke all over your nice new white carpet you might because no I'm trying to be like him when you wake up in the day I'm going to try to be like the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam some you know in your devotion to Allah as much as you can and then in your

17:59 interaction with people and initially it will be difficult when you build on that when you build on that you'll see eventually that it it gets easier so this is you know this is a tremendous intention to have you know the intention that in my interaction with Allah and with people I will try to emulate the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam and that will bring you you know a world of good in this life and the next Allah okay what the rights of ne of a neighbor when the neighbor is a stranger down the hall okay excellent so the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam um uh highly encouraged being kind to

18:46 neighbors and he said Gibrel came and you know reminded him about the neighbor and the rights of the neighbor to the point that he thought the the coming in the coming rulings Allah would decree that the neighbors are going to inherit and so I inherit from the deceased person. So it's not the case but it does show that you know you you want to be good to your neighbors and so as you know there's this thing about 40 houses uh it was yeah granted it was much easier in the past it was much easier in the past where people you know um were more social like I remember just as as kids um you know people would just casually come to your house knock on the door come inside sit down for a few hours and then go and it was happening

19:33 throughout the week there was socialization like that. uh nowadays it's not as much you know and nowadays it's the norm is like you contact them are you free can I come see you whatever it's it's things are slightly different so standards do change over over time but um rule one when it comes to neighbors rule one excuse me rule one don't harm them don't do anything that would cause them distress and harm that's the first and foremost thing uh you know the the hadith the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam um he emphasizes by God he doesn't believe by God he doesn't believe by God he doesn't believe and so this is a

20:19 negation of the perfection of faith and the sahaba too he said it you know him whose uh neighbor is not safe from his harm so don't harm them That's the first thing. Have good relationship with them. Um, you know, if you see them, you don't have to be really tight. You don't have to be, you know, really close. And, you know, um, if you can send a gift of food or something here and there, great salon. Um, but being congen congenial and polite. Thirdly, if you know your neighbor is struggling like you know sometimes people know about you know the financial situations

21:05 of you know a person if your ne if you know your neighbor struggling or whatever then do help them out you know like in the hadith there's an encouragement of you know just adding some more water to a broth so you can if you know the neighbors hungry so you can actually give some of that extra broth to them. So if you know someone struggling, do help them out. Like as in um order, you know, if you get a take, get get an order an extra pizza and just say, "Oh, you know, we ended up getting too much, you know, and you know, would you like this?" And just just go give them it. These sorts of things. Don't put them on the spot and make it obvious that, yeah, I know you're struggling, but you know, so if it's someone down the hall live in a block of flats, um be kind to them. If

21:50 they need help, if they need some assistance physically moving things, be there. Go there, do that. The only time it's a complication is if it's a person who's of the opposite gender. Let's say there's a a person living alone in a flat like students sometimes, right? I don't know if they they do put students in uh opposite genders into the same block of flats, I don't know, or the same floor. But uh if it's someone of the opposite gender, um then yes, the rules of interaction would come first. So don't say, "Oh, it's my neighbor. I'm just going to go knock on her door and just, you know, smile and talk to her." You know, you know, also like for example, there's no harm like, you know, if you cook if there's too much food and there's someone, you know across

22:37 you know, a lady cooks too much food, there's a a brother who lives across, whoever, there's no harm in passing some food on. But as long as the interaction is appropriate uh and you know this it's not lead leading to any sort of fitna of we becoming overly familiar these sorts of things but generally it's fine it's fine um uh as long as these rules are maintained. So, and if it's just, you know, when you're both of the same gender, you know, you live alone, a brother lives down the road down the corridor, go say hello, go say salam, how you doing? Maybe sit with them once in a while, whatever you can accommodate. But goodl good. I like to I like to think of it as, you know, when you're wearing a nice perfume, you're wearing a nice um I I like this. This is

23:27 my favorite at the moment. You can't see it. It says word malaki. I got this in Medina royal rose. It's really nice. My point being is when you wear some perfume and you walk through a corridor or something, there's a pleasant aroma that remains afterwards, right? Make your like that. The way you deal with people afterwards there's a pleasant memory. Oh yeah, that was nice. And that's as simple as it is, right? Allah. Allah. Okay.

24:12 Um, okay. So, that's basically it. Let's have the next one. Um, Allah. Okay. How do I keep a good opinion of someone who has clearly wronged me? Okay. The messenger of Allah sallallah.aii wasallam he said a believer is not stung from the same hole twice. So the imagery is you know like there's a fox den or something like that and someone's you put your hand in once and you get bitten and then so you don't go putting put your hand in there a second time right as they say in English once bitten twice shy. So a believer is um

24:58 what is it? Uh the prophet said sai wasallam a believer is uh straightforward and so is literally what it means is someone who's who's deceived easily. So what it means is that you you go around and you have a good opinion of people and you don't expect uh you don't want to harm someone and you don't expect it from them. So someone like that, you know, can be a bit naive and they can be manipulated. So the wording isn't literal here, right? So a believer is straightforward, goodnatured. That's how you're going to translate it. Um he's goodnatured. You should want good for others and you should want good for them. uh in the best of ways in this

25:45 life and the next. However, if you've had if you've had interactions with people and they've harmed you, they've caused you pain, then learn a lesson from that. Learn a lesson. So, um just like just like there's a distinction between humility and meekness like you won't find humility is in the heart and it's you know comes from not seeing yourself as better than others and you know seeing any good that you have. It comes from Allah. After the prophets, uh the best of humanity is Abu Bakr Sik and Omar Faruk, right? Neither of them um were meek. There were times when sa Abu Bakr stood up and was

26:32 firm to the point that you know even s Omar you know you know had to uh you know um even somar with his personality that was known to be a strong personality had to recognize yes Abu Bakr is right here or you know the point he's making I I accept um and there were times look when the messenger of Allah passed away sallallahu alaihi wasallam and snar was um because of the the effect uh of the passing on the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he was distressed and you know he said some hypocrites are saying that he's passed away no and you know he's going to visit his lord as mus did anyone who says this

27:18 I will drop the head off and snub bakr just walked up to Omar Omar you know take it easy Omar and then He addressed everyone with a strength and composure. None of the Sahabah had. So he was humble. He was a humble man. Omar was a humble man. But they weren't meek. So in the same way, a believer is goodnatured, but you're not you're not thick. You know, you don't act like you don't let yourself be taken to town. And metaphorically that is you don't let you don't let someone you know harm you. And yes, because of the good nature, it might happen once in a while, but you learn your lesson. And so if someone is, you know, has harmed you once or twice,

28:05 you could say, okay, maybe the person has an excuse, but you know what? I'm going to, you know, take a wide birth. I'm going to skirt around this in a way where I'm not going to get harmed again in the future. It doesn't mean someone comes and punches you in the face. Or maybe his fist was itchy, so he had to get it out. I just go put my face there again. No. Right. So, you know, there's some practical lessons that, you know, we can see from the life of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. And remember this hadith that I mentioned, the believers not stung from the same hole twice. And Allah knows best. Allah

28:50 is feeling spiritually empty a sign that I am a hypocrite. Uh no let's talk about terms first. So hypocrite is generally a translation of right is it's interesting that the word for a subway tunnel is a in Arabic. Why? Because where you think there would be ground and soil, someone's, you know, dug through it and made, you know, a cavity there. That's what is that's what So it's it's a container containing nothing. Where iman should be, it's empty. So the person says, you know, what does the Quran say? When the hypocrites come to you, they

29:36 say, we testify truly you are the messenger of Allah. And Allah knows you are really you you truly are his messenger and but Allah testifies that the are lying they're not lying in they're saying they're lying in they're saying because that they're not actually testifying they're feigning it they're faking it. So a nifak is when there's no iman inside and nifak has qualities you know like people have can have qualities uh you know constantly lying you know breaking promises breaking trusts and a believer can fall into these sins these sins right but it doesn't mean that there's

30:22 no iman there so feeling spiritually empty is very different to the absence of iman are you a hypocrite in that sense uh in a mafic sense No. Can someone be have qualities of h excuse me of hypocrisy or you know act in a hypocritical way as a believer? Yes. But that's not that's notifi you know that we see in surah bakar at the beginning. So feeling spiritually empty um that is a situation you have to assess. You know sometimes you know people pray fast everything and you know we were talking about last last time

31:07 sometimes people pray and do everything right but you know times come where there isn't that that tranquility there isn't that connectedness that you know that's that was there at one at one point like like what's there in Ramadan won't be there after Ramadan for you know for some people and so does it mean that you're doing badly? No. Because Allah wants Allah wants to show you he's he's the master. So sometimes he shows you what he can give you and how how close you can be to him. So you feel that enjoyment and then sometimes he wants to test you. Will your worship continue when that enjoyment isn't there? Are you worshiping him for him and because he's commanded it and because he deserves it and because he's given you all these favors and blessings

31:52 or you worshiping him because you get you get a nice fuzzy feeling out of it. And if it's just for the fuzzy feeling, then you know you need to maybe just you sharpen those intentions a little bit. And so I'll do it for Allah whether whether the the feeling of connectedness comes or or doesn't come because Allah deserves it. Allah created me. He's my master. Right? So there's that. Sometimes people can feel it because um of something they've done. You know this is a real thing. Consequentials consequences of actions. You know if someone for Allah protect us if someone commits zena or goes around you know drinking alcohol or something like this it's it's going to have an effect on your iman isn't it as we know you know you know the ashari position is that

32:38 iman increases and decreases and uh and so it's effects that you feel in your heart are going to you know and that's a blessing as well because that feeling of uh being connected being close feeling being in the sphere of you know I want you know I want to serve Allah and being close to Allah if if someone feels way out of there you know it's like you're being you know ripped out of something so it's all sore and that feeling isn't pleasant and a believer doesn't want that so you you want to work on maintaining that and being there with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and that's the you know you that's not of that's that

33:23 that feeling is is a blessing because it makes you not want to return to those actions. So that's a blessing. But don't assess where you are with Allah based on how you feel cuz a number of things can change how you feel or affect how you feel. Whether you just happen to have, you know, a dose of vitamins the night before or you just had a it's been a happy occasion, you know, uh a relative getting married or something. You know these things can affect your mood and sometimes what you feel affects your worship as well in so for example someone who's just been you know beaten black and blue and then they go on Omrah and they're going to be there you know broken before

34:08 Allah and they're going to raise their hands and they might cry more than someone who's just been rolling around in blessings and then they go they may not feel as emotional but does it mean that This person who's had the ease hasn't benefited as much as the person who's had the difficulty. No, but it's just their response in that situation. So, don't worry about it. Allah. Okay, two more. How should parents raise children towards iman without ruling by fear? Allah. Okay. Fear in raising children is the wrong approach completely. You know, psychologically the way a child sees their parents is going to affect the way

34:55 they see Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. And uh you see people you see people who um have had a difficult relationship with their parents or their parents have just been overly harsh and cruel. They struggle in engaging with religion. They struggle in worshiping Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. They struggle with all of these things because on a subconscious level you know there's an assessment that because a child sees the parents as being the providers and you know the caregivers and everything and if they see harshness from there then what's going to happen later on when they develop and build their relationship with Allah they're going to expect harshness. It's just the way you know human behavior works. So,

35:41 and it takes a lot of work to change that. It takes a lot of work to change that. So a parents what parent I mean the most basic advice is make sure the trajectory of your child's development is right and so if they mess up on one day or you know it doesn't matter you don't you know the worst scenario is a child messes up and every time they mess up beating beating beating or yelling yelling yelling and it ruins a child it damages a child Right. And then you get other people who just same same idea, you know, horrible, you know, like overly harsh punishments. Let's say a kid has a console, you know, he's playing on his,

36:27 you know, PS5 or whatever, and then he, you know, the parent calls him from the other room and he doesn't come immediately, you know, 5 minutes for just one finish. Yeah. He's engrossed. He's a he's a kid. Kids do that. That's it. You can't play on your console for the next 6 months, 8 months. something overly harsh, it's not going to do him any good at all. So you should remember just look look at what said he said 10 years I served the messenger of Allah for is a word that expresses frustration and obviously really high standard from the messenger of Allah but he's saying he never said to me a word that expresses

37:14 frustration And he didn't say about thing that I did why did you do that he didn't say a thing about uh that I didn't do why did you leave that and this had a profound impact on in fact it was the wives of the prophet who would sometimes say honest why isn't this done and he'd say to them sai wasam leave him if he was decreed it would have happened and look at the Sahabah how beautiful all these people were and this also shows you know the greatness of as the mentioned that he wasn't doing anything haram cuz he was doing if he was doing something haram uh the messenger of Allah would have had to address it sallallahu alaihi wasallam so

38:00 what you have is show kindness I at the end of the day I mean I've seen loads of people who have been really severely harmed by their parents and then later in life their parents like oh my god, you know, look at our children, this and the other. Some some parents be like, oh, you know, look how they've turned out. Well, look how you turned them out, right? Some still don't get it even in their 70s and 80s that your harshness did this to them. But others come to a point where they look at their children and they see that they've suffered in life and they would go back if they could and change it. So just realize that now. Look at your child as if it's it's that little baby crawling around and don't show that harshness, right? And Allah knows best.

38:46 Allah. All right. And I think last one here then. What does our tradition say about burnout among committed Muslims? Our tradition says the words of the messenger of Allah sallallam. Those who go to excesses are ruined. Those who go to excesses are ruined. So, you know, burnout can be because of many things, right? Either you know being extremely and overly harsh with yourself. Once again, not the prophetic way. And you know even like you know the inheritors of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam um

39:34 for example you know he would advise um like if you're detaching yourself you know from the you know material things of the dunya I i.e you know, your bad habits and whatever the things of the bad world is, you know, do it gradually. Don't just say, you know, cold turkey. Don't do it in a way that's going to make you go go running back. That's the that's the point. And so if you're being overly harsh with yourself and or imposing overly difficult standards, a friend of mine said he used to wake up in the morning and have a panic attack cuz he realized I got to do this, this ibada, that I this those much Quran and I got to go to work and I need to be doing throughout the day and all of this he did and it was too much. It was too

40:20 much. Um this people don't understand you know they'll look at right you know being scrupulous whatever they'll see this in in the books and they don't understand how it's done and they don't understand the spirit of the dean and you know yes you know Allah loves it when a person remembers him but Allah also loves it when uh a person shows the traces of his blessings on him right Allah will love it If you know you go home tired from a day of work and you just sit back on your sofa and you think alhamdulillah oh lord thank you for the sofa and you sit there and sometimes your body is saying it look I can't do anymore and you go there and just force yourself no

41:07 I must be religious this way no um there is a time where worship doesn't feel like a burden where the more you do you can't get enough of it. And this happens for someone who keeps striving to please Allah. When you finish an act of worship, get up for another, stand firm and get up for another. And the messenger of Allah would love doing it. You would pray in the night for hours on end. And so worship does this that you know like you can be in a prayer and you just don't want it to end. And so but yes, there are some at times you do struggle with it. But it's important to take a break.

41:54 It's important to realize this is too much. And if you're feeling an aversion to practice or being a particular way, it's not the prophetic way. It's not the prophetic way. It's not a flaw in yourself. It's a flaw in the approach. So some people just like slave drivers. you need to be doing this and this and this and you need to have this and you know your tawa standards are lacking and this is lacking and that is lacking and you know and then when you hear this sort of advice what happens burnout complete burnout and I've seen people burnt out to the point I I I I know someone who you know would practically beat himself up uh for not praying a prayer in the mosque at one point and so much he would do so much honestly and

42:42 then he got so burnt went out that you know there was a point where he would just walk into a pub to sit sit and not drink but you know to go get a sandwich from thereal sandwich but sit there he'd just be comfortable in that environment because it pushed him so far away from the dean alhamdulillah he's you know much better now but it takes it takes you know it just takes a a few brain cells look at the mercy the prophet showed the Sahaba look at how his approach was and look at the approach that leads to burnout out, right? Either way, they burn out through your approach to your perspect perspective or you you think, you know, you've been told you ta or you're piling on the good deeds that you do and you can't handle them anymore. Uh

43:29 just think about this is it that we need to go back to the messenger of Allah and when you do that when you see how he was you get a fresh perspective and Allah knows best. Okay. Right. Let's look at some of your questions. You know what? Um, alhamdulillah, the mic hasn't messed about today. Uh, I need to just All right, let me go up and find the first of the questions here. Uh, okay. In games, are you allowed to spin free wheels for prizes? Yes, because there's no real money involved. Yeah, you get

44:15 what? A skin or whatever, that that's perfectly fine. As long as you're not putting money in it or you're not putting money in to buy some coins to get a random purchase, that's gambling. Um, it's fine. Am I sinful for leaving parents even though they want me to stay? Uh, my wife and mom don't get on, they're in their 60s, but wealthy. I'm not wealthy. I need to work to promise my family. How to deal with blackmail? We deal with blackmail by seeing that you have to stand before Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and answer for the well-being of your wife. So if your wife and mom don't get on, move out and spend time with your mom as well. Go there and just be kind to her and whatever. And say, look, just say to your parents like, "Look, you're not getting on. It's

45:00 making my life harder. I don't want to jeopardize the marriage. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move out, but I will keep coming." And if they if they say, "Oh, you're abandoning us. you're ditching us. You're this say no I have a responsibility before Allah. You I'm also responsible for you. I will come. I will help you as much as I can. Um but I have this responsibility. I have to answer to Allah. It's as simple as that. They won't like it. If they don't like it, it doesn't matter. If they like it, if they accept it, right? What what does one do if one's voodoo breaks in the middle of a congregation and people are ignorant of the ignorant in the area? Then what do you do? You need to sit down. Sit down. If you can't leave and push through the crowd if they're ignorant and just just

45:46 in the middle of a congregation just um you don't go pretending like, "Yeah, I'm still praying." Just sit down on the spot and afterwards if people are say, "Look, my woodoo broke, right? I could have walked through and just go." It's normal. It happens. You know, it happens. Um do you play games? I do play the odd game occasionally, not too long. Just uh de-stress a little bit. It's strange cuz I actually play stressful games, souls likes, but um yeah. Uh balance in it. Okay. Uh I feel like I'm getting away and away from Allah. I have lost uh little my prayers and became a lot heless. Well, I answered that. I answered that earlier on, isn't it? Um if you've made a big change in your life, you know, going from good to bad,

46:32 stop. Come back. Right? Or if you've hurt or harmed someone, apologize to them and make amends. Make a TBA, come back. Otherwise, if you just feel like things are slipping, just say, "I'm going to stay here regardless of how I feel because Allah deserves my worship and Allah will take care of you. Don't worry." Also, can I jump directly to instead of a centalicity? If you're doing it in English, no. do a center philic in Arabic is like if it's a full-time study fair enough but you should always study a primer you know think of knowledge as concentric circles so one and then the next one's wider and the next one's wider and next one's wider there's a wisdom in this because it the subsequent

47:20 stage of study reinforces the previous stage of study so do that Allah Oh, how to deal with parents that have stopped talking to me. I try my best, but they give me the cold shoulder only because I prioritize my daughter and her well-being. This is difficult cuz um the whole scenario and obviously I don't know the particulars of it but um just be polite to them be kind um if they stop talking to you just try sending a gift once in a while try sending some food over once in a while and just let it know um that there's no ill will or animosity on your side and

48:07 if you ever need if they ever need you there beyond that you know you can't force someone to talk to Some people are like that. Some people can get a bit you know petty in that way. And as for this the situation with you I don't I don't know the particulars of that but just show the kind of you know Allah would want us to show to to your parents. Sometimes goodl with parents is just you know when they're being abusive you can walk away you can say keep yourself safe but don't retaliate with harm and Allah knows best. What is your favorite nashid or something similar? That is a good question.

48:53 I suppose my absolute favorite is Okay, that's enough of that. Um, that's my favorite one. Oh, you who loves our metaphysical beauty, the da is expensive for he who wishes to betray others. uh a body fatigued, a a soul in pain, an eyes that don't taste sleep, uh and a heart in which there's nothing but

49:40 us. It's really nice. I have a I do occasionally after a class with the students, we do occasionally sing a casa. Um on my Instagram page, I have posted quite a few and there's an explanation of this one as well. Uh if you go looking for it, you'll find it. Anyway um how can one hold onto the sunnah of sam like making light nightar reciting lately it has been hard for me to practice this sunnah. So some of these what you need to do is you need to fix a time a time where this happens and nothing else happens. So for example after isha right you've sat you've

50:26 prayed isha uh get your phone out before you stand up read or what you could do after you've done your fur pray two sunas whatever sit down read half of it and then pray a read the other half right or something like that it's also a sunnah I believe it's recommend in the school anyway that the two sunnas of that you recite mul in them so you could do that um what did Abdul Aziz or one of the great scholars of Syria of the last century he would he would do like I think five Jews of the Quran every day or something like that and because he'd get a lot of attention from people and they'd come asking questions and everything if he was sat there reading the musf people would come and disturb him so he just he prayers

51:13 and just do his Quran in there but anyway um so the trick to this is to have is to set a that at this time this happens and nothing happens or just before you go to bed, you go sit in a room, I just need to do this and that. Um the nightly I know there's one where you know you lie down is when you're supposed to be lying you're supposed to do it when lying down but the others you could do just sat on your bed when you go to bed you're in your pajamas you sit down before lying down do thear and then go to bed you know so make a slot okay I wanted to confirm if I'm in the car on

51:59 in the clear on something. All right. Uh clean wipe them up over the area with dry invisible impur. Can I assume without transfer? Yeah, it's fine. It feels dry. It's fine. Don't worry. Sometimes I get these odd episodes in the evening. Doctor says it's a deficiency of meds. I'll go in 3 months. It'll go in 3 months. It's like I'm awake but my brain's dreaming. I get this tidal wave of random thoughts. Uh question should I play pray during the episodes of way out? I know what I'm saying but my head is absent. If you know if if you can discern at that moment this is an obligation I need to pray then pray even if your head's uh you

52:44 know vacant don't worry about it. Sometimes during episode I get thoughts like is this reality? Am I Muslim? Just whatever comes in those moments, you don't don't don't engage with it. Just say, "Oh yeah, something happened came into my head. So what?" Right. Um I know sinful for those yet, but once I thought I'm an ex in x-fictional world rejected it, but freaked me. Don't worry about it. Just let it come and let it go. It's like when you stand on the main road and there are cars going past, can you say, "Okay, no white car is going to go past me today." And can you stop and concentrate to stop any white car going? You could try, but is it going to stop any white car going? No. So the thoughts treat him like that. Let him come and let him go. Right. You're not like you know you're not responsible and I stick to the wholesome stuff. Okay. Right.

53:33 I usually read, watch, relax, worry if you're sinful in my condition. Stick to wholesome stuff. But is it okay to do so knowing I might get odd thoughts? Yeah, it's fine. Don't worry about it. Oh, what time are we on? All right. um in a room often used for prayer in in someone's home painting of a whirling dervish you can't see any bodily features clothing angle if it's just the outline it should be fine it should be fine inshallah okay uh is it backbiting or improper if I tell my therapist about things my parents do to upset me or sometimes make me feel overwhelmed no if there's a means of actually getting help is fine for CBT. Uh it probably isn't the best

54:18 approach. CBT, if you do CBT, you find something else on EMDR or something like that. CBT sometimes people just talk talk talk and it actually exacerbates problems because they bring out deeper issues. It doesn't actually heal. Um so yeah, what beard oil do you use? I use no beard oil whatsoever. I use some palm olive soap. I don't even know if it's good or whatever. And I, you know, that's it. I don't use any beard oil. Um, alhamdulillah. Is it a huge blessing when a person performs Haj at a young age versus going at an old older age? Yeah, it's a huge blessing cuz you can do it with relative ease. It's physically taxing, isn't it?

55:04 So yeah. And should I tell my therapist about sins that stress me? Um if there's a need to express them, you say I have a habit or I do I do something and you know you can say it like that. You don't need to express it exactly. Uh is it true that im is in the heart but is witnessed by the limbs? What that means is that you have iman you say I believe in Allah and then someone says that I believe in Allah. I believe what he's revealed is true. What the messenger of Allah brought is true and then the person doesn't do anything about it. Just sits there. Right? It's your actions aren't backing up your words. That's what it means. Um, so make your actions back up those words. Uh Allah

55:49 what to do when non-Muslim friends backbite people like speak ill of political figures? Um just it depends cuz sometimes you know like you know like generally you shouldn't foster an environment where you know people are getting slandered and you know you know insulted in your presence. Um so just don't engage with it. So I don't I don't do do that. But then there are times you know like um the rules of backbiting sometimes they don't apply to non-Muslims like you know if someone's there you know bashing you know this world leader or that world leader or they're saying Satan Yahoo or something like that right it's there you know those rules don't apply because of you know these actions so um just make

56:35 it known that you're not someone that would like doing this right and so show a higher standard but if they're talking about certain people who ever like that then you know you don't have to constantly get involved you know uh Allah knows best can you give an explanation for not reading the fat and the im even for silent prayers uh the words of it whoever has an im the recitation of the im is his recitation So you don't have to do it right and that's the approach. Is it permissible to purchase gold using

57:20 a credit card in a store given that uh cash is prohibited where I live for such transactions or is this a facet due to the absence of uh it's permissible isn't it? You can't buy gold in a store with a credit card. The point is that you're taking possession of the gold. They're getting immediate payment. So it's like it's like if you took your brother with you, you bought, you know, a gold brick or biscuit or whatever and you get him to pay for it and then you're going to pay him later on. So the transactions happened so it's perfectly fine. But credit cards, you should always be careful with credit cards like you know

58:05 like make sure you can pay it off otherwise you know it can become an issue right? But uh yeah, when getting head shaved by Baba for Hajj, I asked Baba for Hulk. Baba didn't use didn't use razor. Baba used a trimmer that cuts down to skin. Yeah, that's fine. That is fine. You shaved all the hair off. So, it's fine. Uh do these types of streams where we get questions answered come under the ruling that Jamaat can be missed due to fit classes? Um, I don't know cuz you can always watch the stream later. I don't know. I don't know. Can the man work as as the delivery driver if it involves handling and delivering haram food and drink? Yes. Okay. Uh, as long as you don't eat and drink it. Um, okay.

58:55 Do we have do we have to say the and the subhanim for instance for instance loud as well in the prayer you say them all quietly unless you're the imam where who says theat loud but otherwise quietly I had a scholar say that the classical theologians don't usually describe Allah as infinite uh how to understand this as I've always heard Allah's essence attributes are infinite yeah what does uh Imab We say Allah exalted beyond limits and ends. So yeah. So yeah, what do you call something that has no limit or no end?

59:41 Infinite. So we can't understand the nature of Allah subh what he is, how he we can understand he's a perfect being. We can understand he's got knowledge, will power. He sees, he he hears, you know, he speaks, he's he's alive. We can understand the attributes of Allah that he's, you know, the messenger of Allah told us about, but the actual nature of, you know, the essence of Allah subhana tala, it's beyond human understanding, right? And uh what's the blue blueprint of sunnah? What is it? Um is that the one loving the two shakes?

1:00:28 No. put is saying that the superior of the Sahabah Abuk Abuk Abu Bakr and Omar loving the other two sons-in-law the prophet the sman and Ali and there's a few a few other things but the way and the schools how do we seek forgiveness from others do we need to mention the exact thing we did or just a general apology forgive me for the nuisance I caused back in school about backbiting sometimes backbiting if you're going to tell them it's just going to make things worse. If that's the case, give some sodaka, do some good deeds and donate the reward to them. Ask Allah to make it suffice, you know, like make them pleased with it, right? Um other things, you know, so it depends on the person.

1:01:13 Some people if you've hurt them or upset them um and you don't do anything to show you've changed, it's just lip service. you can apologize, you know, with a letter half a page long and they won't, you know, to them it won't mean anything. So, you got to change it. And for others, you need to show verbally that I need to uh, you know, I'm sorry, you know, I really am sorry for what I did. And so, it depends. It depends. Uh, okay. I want to know about some people here do with oil in a cup and keep on our head and read something. Is that Islamic? I have no idea. Honestly, I have no idea. And Rokia for jaundice, you know, um I don't know. I would say first go see a

1:01:59 you know, go see a homeopath. I know people have got better from jaundice from with homeopaths. Not everything is treated with the roya and generally especially physical illnesses. Physical illnesses can be brought about by people using black magic and these sorts of things. So it could help but I don't know about this oil or whatever. Sometimes there are approaches people use things known through experience or whatever. Uh Allah knows best. There's the citrion citrus fruit or some citrus fruit. Um uta in Arabic imbalani for example he says that this is when it's in a house the gindo enter a house right and how does he know that it's something people know from experience right? So Allah knows best about this. I

1:02:45 can't see you there. I'm sorry. And if someone just finished praying and went to the toilet right after and saw a spot of muddy in his underwear, uh he didn't feel anything exiting during the salah, must he repeat the prayer? Uh no, because he might have been there before you made the woodoo for that prayer. So don't worry about it. A man allowed to travel alone like as in camping. I'm aware of a hadith in where there was a warning about men traveling uh being alone accompanied by Satan. It's best that you have company but it is preferable to have company but it is permissible to travel alone especially long uh long journeys. Allah bless you for the singing. Um also when you learned especially to

1:03:31 Allah you should believe in it 100% if you don't know the proofs behind it yet. Okay. Because it's hard to know understand proofs as a layman. The proof is doesn't have to be complicated. I'll give you an example. My mom, you know, she can't read. She never learned how to read. And I once walked in and she was there's something on the TV in the house and there was image of fields or whatever and then you know the sun rising and she said look at the you know look at the the signs of Allah's power. That's enough of a proof to say look at this thing here. It can't have come about by itself. There must be a being who created it. He has tremendous power. That's enough. I mean that I've just passed it explained what her proof was but that's basically enough of the

1:04:17 proof. So it doesn't need to be incredibly complex. Uh there's a local madam who claims he shake his says human being and says human being Allah and it's okay to say because the is Allah is it obligatory avoiding this sounds just dodgy straight away right but is it what he's saying you know I don't know and have you understood what they're saying but what is what does um I believe imosi say that some of the can be can have right So uh the prophets have isma the prophets cannot sin it's just not possible for them right the generally have which is a lower level where they don't want to commit sins they don't desire to

1:05:02 commit sins and but it could happen it could happen um and then you know there's others on the way there you know like others at a different stage they may not want to commit sins most of the time but sometimes they might might get overwhelmed by their weaker you know physical side and they might commit something and then they make a TBA but they always go back and make Toba. So, you know, it's one of those things. But to say he's absolutely sinless like a prophet, that's not the belief of Sunnah. I says human being Allah. No, no human is Allah, right? It's okay to say because the is Allah, Allah is the speaker. There's this thing about you know sometimes in a state of um you know people can get ilam Allah can inspire people and sometime you know

1:05:49 it's a longer discussion I don't want to get into it today but whatever this sounds like it sounds like it's dodgy uh what the best comment in Arabic on IM Gazali especially if any um I don't know there's a commentary I know by Al Jawi this uh shafi scholar but I don't know about the hanafi um hanafis had their own approach in it but for a short basic text like that I don't know I don't know okay I'm going to have to stop soon okay let me see how many of these I can get through how to implement the blessing of hajj in day or today's yeah okay keep working keep worshiping Allah with the same intensity and that

1:06:35 you would keep making your dua like strive to make a change in your life and that you'll get the full benefit of it. Uh what to do if I'm unsure about a zakat due date? Take your best guess. Right? Thank you very much. I was in my mind that but um what's with the capitals, man? Why are you shouting on me? Did you answer my question? If it's the other question that had capitals, yeah. So my question is where were you when I was answering it? Uh before you go just to check so if I feel at ease what you said about the thoughts it's still valid my brain yeah it's fine don't worry about it yeah uh it takes me a moment or two to

1:07:20 comprehend the thought yeah don't don't worry about it just it's a test for healing and take the medication take the means does Allah forgive someone who drove his family apart for example made his or her mother divorce his father because of having caused so much hardship to them. I don't know. But what you're going to what you need to do is you need to make a TBA and you need to apologize to both the parents and uh you know hope for the best but I can't say with Allah forgive someone or not forgive someone you know that's Allah's Allah's prerogative. Um I'd like to ask the ring of playing Fortnite. Fortnite is a multiplayer game where players use weapons whatever. Uh cartoonish and unrealistic. Yeah, if

1:08:06 there's anything that does seem realistic, you know, problematic in terms of dress or something like that, then no, don't pick those characters or don't play with them in that. Uh, but if it's all cartoonish and whatever and the shooting and all that, all that's fine. But I don't Fortnite, just check the characters. Do they look like they're dressed inappropriately or not? Okay, there's no blood go. Okay, I just did that. All right. Um, the fictional vinus is fine. Don't worry. Okay. Uh how many questions? All right. Okay. Let's stop here. Allah bless you all and uh we'll continue next time. Please pray for me. Muhammad in rather early.
