0:00 If you study the lives of Nikl Kat, Dirohayamani or even Goautam Madani, you would realize that they all learned about the business on their own. They didn't buy a course or earn a degree in the niche where they became billionaires, which means that they learned how to learn things on their own. In fact, I have done a BTE myself, but whatever little money or success I have today isn't because of what I learned in my degree. It's because I learned how to be in the right place at the right time and ask the right questions. And of course, my degree helped me get better at identifying the right places and the right time. But you can't really say that if you were to enter the same degree as me or my friends, you would get the exact same
0:47 result. So what helps you get that extra result? So I ended up making a list of three big reasons for failure. And I have made this list after meeting a lot of people, after noticing a lot of my friends. If you want to become disgustingly self-educated and build a better life, you need to avoid these three mistakes. If you comment your notes without using AI in the comment section of this video, we will pick three most interesting comments and give them a 24,000 rupees scholarship at our cuttingedge academy. At the very end, I will also give you a step-by-step checklist that you can follow to learn anything faster than ever. But before we move ahead, let me thank the sponsors of today's video, ODU, a suit of more than

Let's get back to the first reason of failure, which is not understanding the difference between information and education. You know, if you've been following me for a while, you would know that I used to write a lot on notion, thinking that one day I
3:04 would come back to these notes and revise. I still write today, but I actually never go back to my notes because I realize that if I need to refer to my notes, it means that I never really learned the lesson properly in the first place. And with time, I'm getting so so busy that it's actually impossible for me to refer my second brain. And I'll tell you the reality, reading a book and learning more facts is just collecting information. Changing your behavior after reading that book, that is real education. If you spend 4 years doing a BTech and still don't change the way you act, the way you think, the way you talk, the way you build, you're not educated. You just have more information. In the AI era, everyone will have more information. But
3:51 not everyone will be educated. I've met engineers at MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Microsoft Imagine Cup. I've met millionaires from India, the US, Europe, and the UAE. And I can guarantee that their financial success is less about what they were born with and more about their ability to self-educate themselves at the right moment on the right subjects. In fact, I'll tell you a story. So, I went to a very popular school in Delhi where more than 50% of the student audience had homes with more cash flow than my home did. And I belong to a very good family. And from a distance, I always thought that if they were reading so many fancy books, if they were going to so many fancy events, if they were traveling business class as
4:38 a school kid, watching every movie in director's cut, that would help them get ahead of me because it would change their personality and I would get left out because, you know, I don't have access to all of these things. But after consuming so much, their personality, their thoughts, and their overall way of just behaving in general stayed the same. If they were discussing something in a crowd, you would not know whether they were well read or welltraveled because they would just sound and talk like everybody else. So their experiences were not really changing them. Most people consume without changing themselves because consuming is easy but changing yourself is very tough. So the question is how do you translate information into education? Number one, when you consume, ask
5:24 yourself, why am I consuming this and learn like a mechanic? When a mechanic fixes a bike, he or she doesn't really read the entire bike manual. He decides which part he needs to fix today and he only reads about how to fix that one part. If you are learning, be very clear about why are you learning this. Reason number two for failure is not learning the origin story or the classics of any subject. There is so much that history can teach us. But every person you meet is usually obsessed with what is trending or what's coming in future. And as Jeff Bezos says, you need to bet on things that will not change. The beauty of origin stories is that they survive the test of time. Anytime you're self-educating yourself on any topic, it
6:09 could be AI, pattern finding, taste, anything. First use a tool like deep research on GPT or Gemini to shortlist important lists. So you can go to any of these tools and simply prompt that I am trying to learn more about say pattern recognition. As a creative director who works in social media and AI education I want to create a self-education syllabus. Can you help me make a list of resources that I can learn from and then categorize them into the following buckets. Don't give me technical stuff. I want to read first principles that will help me grow my career, my life, and my income. Now, notice that I'm not just asking for recommendations blindly. I've also given the context as to why I need this information. Now, I will list down all of the sources that I need AI
6:55 to help me find. And whatever AI suggests is just going to be the first draft. You will still need to use your real intelligence to shortlist the right things. In fact, I've already purchased subscriptions to almost every top AI tool. I think I invest anywhere around 6,000 to 7,000 per month. And I run the same prompt across all major LLMs. And then I use my real intelligence to shortlist the best results from all of them. I'm sure you've read about Jeff, right? The new classifier that's like 200 times faster and cheaper than all big LLMs. A big reason for its efficiency as a classifier wasn't the data or the compute. It was that the model was trained on very specific tasks. What you read and where you learn from matters far more than how much you
7:42 read or how long you learn. In January of 2015, someone asked Elon Musk how he learns so much so quickly. Elon gave an answer that was so simple but it is very very powerful. He said, "We need to view knowledge as sort of a semantic tree. We need to understand the fundamental principles first. Meaning the trunk and the big branches before you get into the leaves and the details. Otherwise, the details have nothing to hang on to. When you read about the origins, when you study the classics, you end up finding the main trunks which are your first principles. Now, the branches are the major concepts that grow out of the trunk. And the leaves are like your facts, the jargon, the tools that you
8:28 use, all the small small details. The mistake most people make is memorizing leaves. They read facts, they practice formulas, they learn some random tools, but leaves without branches fall off, which is why you forget everything you read or document. Reason number three for failure is not practicing divergent thinking. Divergent thinking means generating as many possible answers or roots to one problem. A psychologist JP Guilford had coined this term back in 1950s when he was studying creativity. The opposite of divergent is convergent thinking which is sadly what you've been doing since school days. Convergent thinking starts with many options and narrows them down to one correct answer.
9:14 And it's very similar to how you know your school teacher or your tutor would have told you that here is a principle or a formula. This is the only derivation for it. If you follow any other derivation, if you follow any other solution to you know get to this place, I will give you zero marks. Or even in engineering, the entire race was about who could reach the solution as fast as possible. Very few students used to ask you know if there are any other ways to reach the same solution even if it takes 2 minutes extra. Once an exam score or a grade or a number becomes the goal people game the number instead of improving what that number was meant to measure. And the most interesting part here is that if you need to increase your intelligence you need to use a
10:01 combination of divergent and convergent thinking. So anytime you start learning or exploring, you need to first diverge and then converge and this is the core of the double diamond design process which is something that the British design council formalized in 2005. Now the hardest skill here is knowing when to converge and that usually depends on your bandwidth and your priorities and your IQ. That's why the most common mistake is converging too early. Killing ideas in the brainstorming stage before they've even had a good chance. And I have had a personal experience with this building the cutting edge school as well. When we started the company on our content we were talking about design, video editing, AI, we were doing YouTube Instagram LinkedIn Twitter everything. I was also doing workshop
10:47 for smaller teams. So by then we had diverged enough and after 3 years of working we realized that it's finally time to converge. Now we're only focusing on B2B training and our YouTube. Everything else is a second priority for us because you can't really beat your competition in five different niches. You have to converge at a point and become really really good at very specific things. So before you go, you now need to follow a checklist that will help you translate all of the information into behavioral change. Before you wake up tomorrow, you need to ask yourself, what is that one main pain point or at least some main pain points in my life that I should solve first? And you should pick one part of your life, health, wealth, or relationships.
11:34 And let's assume you're trying to improve your wealth. You need to shortlist the right topics to read about first. Spend at least 3 to four hours only shortlisting what kind of topics you need to read about. If I were in your position, I would probably read The Almanac of Naval Ravi Khan because that is one book that genuinely teaches you a lot about building wealth. Immediately after this video ends, you need to take a pen and paper that you are carrying right now and you need to draw three check boxes. The first one, write four to five pain points you want to solve this week. For example, I don't know how to price my freelance work. Once you have four to five pain points listed, you need to rank them and you need to shortlist only one thing you want to solve first. Next is to ask and think
12:20 like a mechanic. Essentially, we're practicing divergent thinking and then we converge to one pain point that you want to solve this week. So, skip everything that does not fix that part of your life. Then third, set a timer for 1 hour, minimum 1 hour, and only do research on collecting the right resources. You can probably use AI, you can do a Google search, you can ask people in your friend circle who might know something about it, but spend only one hour finding what to learn and where to learn from. Then set a consumption limit. Once you have a list of resources, you need to set a limit. Otherwise, you will go so deep into the rabbit hole that you will not be able to take your neck out. Whatever you understand and whatever you learn, you have to implement it in the next 24
13:06 hours. If you do not translate your information into action, you will not form the brain connections required to actually become educated in that subject. So reading does not make you educated. applying what you have read. That is what true education is. And that is all. It is as simple as that. If you follow this habit for the next 5 months where you pick one subject, you give yourself 15 to 20 hours of time to become better at that subject and you finish all of these learning sprints with a practical project. You will increasingly become more self-educated than anybody else around you. I want you to click on the subscribe button right now and comment below your thoughts. realizations and all the ideas that you
13:52 have received from this video. We will pick three very very smart writers from the comment section in the next 24 hours and we will shortlist here itself.
