0:47 from each other because i just you know we got in a big fight no no don't even joke i'm sad already so long since we've recorded the podcast and the big fight happened and lexi moved to texas um because she just that's the only part of this that's true because you couldn't stand being around us anymore no don't say that well lexi if you want to share your side of the story go ahead i am here because i want to be a part of the funimation community and i am i think that this community of creative people i think i fit in very well with i think we are all very like-minded in the sense that we are performers and then we also like this other aspect that is like anime and writing and being

3:12 different languages to each other trying to like figure it out like one of you speaks french the other one speaks spanish and you're like trying to figure out what's happening i had forgotten that we had not talked about a lot of these episodes and so i'm very much looking forward to talking about these because uh things have become very fun i feel like in digimon adventure like i i pretty much enjoyed every single episode in this batch again which i said that about the last batch we watched too uh and so yeah let's try to talk about digimon it's been so long since we've done this uh okay so like let's just first things first what do you remember about like what you were feeling in the last episode of

3:58 digimon adventure podcast baby flame volume seven i was feeling pretty good about where the show was going yeah i was enjoying it because as we were saying like it was yeah it was starting to take a turn towards what we wanted to see so we were like oh finally they might be listening i don't know particularly listening to what people are saying because i'm sure they've had this written for god knows how long but like oh thank god that they got to this and just didn't even think about it in the first one yeah yeah i got you arizona i don't really remember what happened because it was months ago at this point no you are correct i had thought we had talked about these episodes actually uh but no it turns out we had not so episode 36 operation satellite

4:46 sniper so the gang they've been you know separated uh before this so i believe takaru sora tai chi or all together correct no and so now here they come and here's kosheros so tai chi's group reunites with koshiro and tentamon after rising to the surface koshiro's koshiro figures out a plan to stop the international space station from crashing into tokyo will the chosen ones make it in time uh so this was like a plot that had been developing for like the past like like three or four episodes like the international space station yeah it kind of wasn't going anywhere yeah it was just kind of marinating in the fridge for a little bit until we could like finally get to it and it didn't feel dire because of that

5:32 yeah it was like all those weird side stories that we kept getting flashed to like the or we'd see like one or two scenes per episode with everyone else that isn't in taichi's group yeah yeah and so i guess this is the conclusion to that and so what'd you all like what do you all think like a general thought first that doesn't particularly have to do with this episode but since you know we all watch these separately this time i got to watch it with my headphones and hearing the soundtrack through headphones is like a religious experience oh yeah whoa whoa like there's so many parts of the music that i hadn't even heard before so i just wanted to give a shout out to the music because that was so good oh the every time i hear the music it excites me

6:18 yeah yeah yeah never gets old for me and they start pulling like they're adding in some like newer tracks too that just like get that hype level up like pretty well yeah the evolution songs are what are like just so high yeah yeah exactly it's oh god the horn section come on it's so good so good horn is pride horn is probably oh [ __ ] the soundtrack said i mean general thought i mean thought it was pretty pretty solid episode i mean i just yeah episodes that are focused on not tai chi and yamado normally if it's focus on joe or or like koshero it's normally going to be a good one

7:05 yeah i thought this was a very strong episode i really liked the beginning of the episode where they come across the huge digimon fossils disappear yeah yeah and they're like the uh the like ancient music plays like the little flute yeah like whenever they talk about the lore it's pretty cool i i like the whole uh setup of traveling upwards the upward like on the pillar yeah i think that's a very cool like adventurous setup i like how a lot of these episodes recently have had like a very clear setting yes and goal in mind like what was good about these enemies is they were protecting a very specific thing and they're like okay here's our objective and here's what's in our way because

7:50 they also have an objective they're not just like we're mean and angry and we're gonna fight you like this that's our goal everything was clear yes yes it's cool that they had evolved to adapt to this like new area like they are different outside of this pillar but because they were at the pillar they were different where are you going oh man every other virtual pet has passed away and he is going back to the egg to reincarnate oh boy that's the process right there yeah he does that about every six hours like a real virtual pet oh my god yeah but i really liked this uh shooting stars the animation uh that just is horrific the worst thing i've ever seen

8:36 like the little attack that pegasus mon does yeah i literally wrote down that i had the same energy as meteor wing like terrible wings yeah yeah and whoever gives that animator the wing like shots like you got to stop it it's bad it is awesome i'm sure you are great i know that's on your career and you've worked very hard but god yeah it's just that's not their fault it's not the time is just way too too tight for the lad it's instead of being like hey stop it's more like i'm so sorry yeah like we wish you had more time to make it work better give them some help give them some help so they're they're going up the sky bridge and

9:21 they're going to break into the like first layer of the digital world to you know figure out the part of the digital world that intersects with the real life object which is an explanation for something that happened earlier in the show like the the the missile in the first couple of episodes yeah yeah yeah so it's like kind of you know kosheros been reading the digi-wiki and learning because he knows the lore he can find like you know the lore holes where he can go and figure stuff off that's what the pillar is called it's called the lord and speaking of evolution taking a funky

10:07 turn because of this place what do we think of uh blade kawagamon you know the knives with wings oh yeah i wasn't even paying attention to him because i was too excited about greymon's new form yeah right yeah i think you could pay attention to i was like yo he looks like a fire truck i love it yeah [Music] this would have been so the reveal is that metal greymon gets hurt and then he gets attacked by the electricity and it causes uh metal greyman to transform into a unique version of wargreymon which we learned in the uh the little profile that tantamon does at

10:54 the end uh tentamon and kosherow do at the end oh is he being attacked by the like lightning it looked like he was absorbing the energy from the pillar it looked like the digivice was absorbing like the the excess energy and then it like triggered a new evolution yeah yeah yes i think that is what happened but i think from like an audience perspective you're supposed to think that like they're done like they just got like hurt you know and then he comes out of the red lightning as blitz greymon but they you know they ruin the spoiler because they they spoil it in the episode before when they tell you he's going to be the uh the next feature digimon well yeah yeah yeah you don't ever watch those that's why i don't watch it i probably shouldn't either but like it's it it's just so disappointing because that would have been such a cool moment

11:41 because like that was a cool moment when like uh for me when pegasus mon showed up out of nowhere so like i i would have liked the unique evolutions more uh if they were more surprising i feel like yeah see me i had no idea so i was like yeah it's pretty cool right right yeah i had no idea at the same time they usually have a few good action shots like per episode and uh blitz greyman got none of them yeah no it was really lame when he like took his hand and like kind of like punched the guy and then it was like and then he said whatever his attack was and like just the shockwave just kind of went like down yeah yeah like plasma strike it's like okay i hope it's like a giant taser

12:27 yeah yeah it is like a giant taser who's the attacks themselves were cool i thought yeah yeah i liked the zappy attack i'm sure we'll get to see a cool version of these attacks like in a later year so yeah yeah because i mean usually i mean bergeron's been looking pretty good so if berger mon can turn around certainly blitz greymon who looks like a rescue hero could turn around yeah but uh i i was a big fan of this and i thought i initially when i watched it i thought it was kind of weird because this is a more of a koshiro focus episode yes that tai chi gets the evolution but i think watching it again i think it kind of worked into kosheros character arc uh because tai chi is supporting him yeah he takes a more supportive role which is what koshiro usually does yes and it was nice

13:14 to see him get that like growth where he's like oh i'm not just a side character i can actually do things on my own and i'm important and a part of this team as well yeah i mean tai chi says it too kosher he's like i leave it to you like i'm leaving the rest of you like you got this so even though he keeps getting like the cool evolutions and becoming stronger and stronger that doesn't make koshiro any less valuable yeah absolutely yeah and you know in a way even though it's a kosher focused episode tai chi getting a new evolution helps with that storyline so uh it is unexpected uh and i know that i've heard some people you know people always complain about when the evolutions come so i mean i just devil's advocate

14:00 i kind of enjoyed how they didn't really like mega hype it up it was just kind of like he absorbed this oh look it's like an alternate version of like wargreymon and it's not outside the realm of possibility because we've seen you know like uh like agumon like take in like the dark miasma and like turn into like weapons so it's not outside their own possibility for digimon to absorb something and then like use it in an evolution or for it to like change their makeup in some way it's been it's been seen in the show before yeah exactly so yeah it was like surprising but it made sense to like the average viewer probably but it was just such a fun surprise yeah you know it was great it's just like i i wish we started seeing this a little

14:46 earlier on because it would have been cool to like explore all the different like i mean like you look at these evolution trees for these digimons so complicated and there's so much of them and it would have been cool if they started exploring that earlier on so you could have like explored all the different kabutarim on and like forever for everyone but you know i'm glad we're getting what we get of it so then kosciuro goes and does his thing and i love his monologue in space yeah monologue it's it's just i'm excited to know more about the characters i think yeah i mean i don't want to get ahead of myself but with all of these like we find out so much more about all the different characters we see little bits of their backstory so i'm i'm excited to know more about them because we spent so much time with them and i still feel like i don't know them

15:32 so getting to know a little bit more about our little our little techie guy is so much fun i'm proud of him it retroactively makes his like of course i don't love not having koshiro in the show like alongside taichi same with the other characters it kind of retroactively makes him being on the sidelines make a lot more sense yes when he's like i like being alone and you know he's sitting there on his computer like on top of kawagamon flying for six episodes straight and he's like so content doing that yeah yeah uh so i thought it was real i thought it was a great episode and then you know he hits the uh he gets the sniper shot in it's that little can and then like all of like every space center in the world sees his little graffiti tag

16:17 like on the screen when he saves the world that's like what a little badass i watched this episode like two or three times because i might watch it with niko once uh but like it's just like i love that i love that so much it is just like a really cool moment for him and it's so it's so techy and geeky but like you know it's the he's the guy in the chair you know yeah that's great oh yeah and then i just like uh of course like they repeat the motif that happens earlier on the visual motif earlier on with uh the like glow of wargreymon coming out before you see before he evolved into wargreymon uh you see the outline of her of the next i'm not gonna say the name uh of the next version of kabutarymon you see the outline of it before he does

17:02 hornbuster and it's just like oh it's good it's real cool oh i'm excited to talk about this one episode 37 mimi chan wars mimi [Music] the episode for nico yeah yeah with the iss no longer being a threat tai chi and the party continues their adventures taichi and sora who go out to look for food happen to reunite with mimi and palmon then they're suddenly pulled into mimi's project i love that yeah mimi's project project is taking over this castle it's great is it a project for her it seems more like something she just like it's a lifestyle you know it's just who she is yeah she just takes

17:50 over people it's six of her minions it's second nature to her yeah she is probably like the most powerful kid yeah i feel like like well she's because of her financial wealth absolutely and she's just one yeah well one okay yeah all right well one she's like a billionaire two yeah mickey's family could have you assassinated jesus christ imagine like they're going to order avocado cheeseburger and like this the they're like the counterperson oh my god what are you cashier registered connor person my brain is in digimon storage not like life storage yeah like counter person

18:37 cash mon counter mon i don't know whatever i'm not gonna go through it a bit probably wise yeah i think mimi is good yeah mimi's good and i really this is what they should have been doing the whole show i really like these episodes where they're they get back together in the group by the end of the episode because god thank god yeah and so many of these episodes already are one-offs and so like i i counted no i'll say that later um but it's just nice it's nice feeling and it is more convenient to have a smaller group sometimes for the story especially when you start introducing other digimon as characters and so you know with the kids and their digimon total are

19:23 16 characters so it makes sense to split them up every episode but the fact that they're not like lost from each other is so like oh it just makes it so it makes it work so i like the intro the intro is real cute where they go out looking for food and agumon breaks the tree and then i break it off how much snacks it's my favorite thing how much he loves food yeah he's a little foodie yeah i love this so much sora goes in after him and be oman can't keep up it's just you know it's real it's really keep character moments little things that are slowly gonna build up to make us feel like these are our friends and it leads into the actual story of the episode exactly it's like we've been talking

20:10 about how we want more relaxed episodes and it's like i don't feel the need for a beach day episode because of the structure of these episodes right we get little tidbits that we can just like build up to our own beach absolutely yeah yeah yeah no i mean i mean like a beach episode would be really cute but also at the same time it's like uh you know that just the episodes are balanced like i mean i was writing down how like the animation quality seemed to improve so much and like i i know that like a lot of uh anime studios balanced their budget by you know animating the dialogue scenes a lot more stiffly than the action scenes and i feel like the animation quality has improved because they've removed the sheer number of like action shots they have

20:55 per episode and like these character moments where it's like you know there's probably less than 30 frames of animation in that sequence where they're falling down the river on the log but it's so cute you know and it works so much uh and it's so much better than the lame action yeah you know because i just have so many lame action shots in my head from this show and it's like yeah like give us cute moments and like really cool action at the end which this episode also had so mimi has once again reestablished her kingdom yeah she really did like kingdom 2.0 yeah they get separated once again and then just i mean the same thing happens like like

21:41 tai chi and sore like they get captured by by like the gosumon um and then there's like wait a minute this has happened before and then mimi's just like oh hey guys what's up i was about to get so mad i was like i literally my i wrote down god i miss joe and me me so much and then they're like we're about to get in a fight and i was like please not this and then it like panned up to show me me like writing on i was like thank god i had to say god oh it's just so and then of course mimi finds out she's like the only just ruler she knows of in the digital world because uh as mimi puts it she cannot overlook such tyranny tyranny yeah this this big digimon has taken over this crystal like

22:28 valley she's found and stolen all the crystals and has started an evil corporation but mimi mimi's a just capitalist [Laughter] [Music] so she's gonna come in and she's going to you know give her employees like you know snacks in the break room yeah uh something yeah he gives them benefits yeah casual fridays insurance hell yeah i mean i i again i don't want to get ahead of myself but his little like flowers on uh yeah and that was so sweet that was so sweet and i love the uh the callback to the numbers the servant number yeah yeah yeah and palmon was like what

23:14 do you mean you forgot don't forget about that that's important i was like yeah oh my god i think something like that did happen is what they say yeah yeah and so that you know they plan this little infiltration where they're going to break into the lair and beat up the bad digimon and free all the the gatsuman which gatsuman's probably one of my favorite digimon gossip one's so cute yeah yeah yeah yeah oh my god when you find out the crystal digimon is eating them i i have never i have never been more upset about digimon getting eaten in this show like when the bud mon gotta eat and [ __ ] the budmon like yeah but gatsuman oh my god those little pebbles like

24:00 diamonds inside of them yeah well that's probably like their organ yeah like they're probably your heart yeah yeah i mean i don't i don't know how they work no that zero clue it's all speculation but him just spitting out those diamonds is just yeah he's a i i feel like uh his name's what gogamon go go gamanya that is not going on how dare you is it gomgaman i don't know i'm gonna look this up ugly diamond [ __ ] let's call him that ugly rock it's like or something like that yeah oh huge brain yeah

24:46 i'm gonna say i'm sorry if that's incorrect yeah uh so but like i think we'll know gokumon's pretty cool though and i like the infiltration with tai chi doing all the tai chi and sora doing all the work yes i want to talk a very very specific moment that i want to talk about um when they're like reflecting back on or like when mimi's like going through everything that happened and um tai chi is like well you know who did all the work right and then it pans over to greymon and he just goes yeah yeah that was so cute that was so funny yeah it is very funny i i just really like this episode and i like how mimi like breaks she goes you're gonna breach the anti-monopoly act as if that makes a difference to this giant like

25:32 the titan giant diamond digimon uh i love golemon and togamon teaming up i love it when oh that one shot pokemon just like cheesin you know what i'm talking about where he's just like yeah just that big smile on pokemon's face pokemon i love it so much i i just love the evolution line yeah and i i think it's great one evolution was oh my god it was so nice oh nice my jaw dropped when i saw that yeah i mean like i watched these episodes as soon as they come out and arizona is usually too sleepy to watch them with me which is you know totally fair they come out at 10 30 at night uh and i was like babe

26:20 like you need to see this and i just like put i put the ipad in her face like watch this evolution it's just what there's another i love her too like every time she does the attack that like makes a little like flowers boom bloom everywhere yeah i like all the other attacks that have like you know they have the shock waves coming after them after them and it's like that's like what the flowers are they're like the shockwaves of the attack it's so cool uh and then you know tai chi figuring out the diamond and like mimi catching on to it and then just shooting that diamond in that guy's chest hell yeah i thought that was pretty clever it was cool as heck and like attack animation with the music like it

27:07 was just like a plus like just a plus such a good episode i mean episodes are just top tier yes for me for me personally they're the best episodes but also i think they are one of like some of the top episodes for like for like any viewer i i think i think it's because mimi like with all the other digimon we see a lot of like destruction with their attacks you know like they're blowing things up they're just like murdering other digimon but when lilyman does like that one attack where like the flowers bloom it's like a creation attack like yes you were destroying something bad but you're creating something good and it works really well with her character

27:53 and it's very pretty like it's it's visually appealing as well like i feel like it's like a great representation of like mimi's character too because she like brightens up the room like she's that kind of person they're like aggressively kind yeah like oh and you know first of all just you know the subtitled words are president like superimposed our president and then oh my god did i like go where she said the word company has another meaning other than workplace and that's friends oh yeah it was very sweet you hear a golem they all cheer golem goes ah

28:40 he just like this little screams yeah his little flower sleeve was so cute i also i got like weirdly emotional seeing lilymon and mimi stand next to each other because they're like the same height yeah i don't know why i was just like oh that's so cute oh my god i don't know why that made me feel but it's like friends like i can see mimi and palmond going to like hang out together like oh almost get an avocado cheeseburger yeah like they seem like they're the closest to like real world friends yeah like not just like digimon like human relationships like a pet right like palmon she's a pal yeah oh yeah i really like i

29:25 really like when tai chi gets hit by the rock and he tears up oh yeah he's like yeah he got hit with a diamond he was like like he's crying she's like ooh diamonds she's like has no cares that her friend just got hit in the face with it she's like sparkly rock oh it's so it's just i've been enjoying these so much all right so let's get to the you know the most sacrilegious episode oh listen another good episode though read the intro billy just read the intro and i'm ready to go the blazing blue friendship it's fitting right right yes all right yamada and were on their way to rejoin the other chosen ones however they happen to pass by some mountains where a digimon with an evil

30:11 spell is now great danger approaches gabumon can yamados save government in time uh so this was a lot this episode is just a lot oh my gosh oh much yeah god man is crucified uh what going on oh my when i saw that image because i saw that picture floating around twitter and i was like who made this i was like this is such a weird thing for somebody to think of like for easter people were posting that i was like this is the weirdest thing i've ever seen so to see it like part of the show i was like no everybody everybody wait a minute what is happening and then the freaking digimon that's doing is like they're not even holding back like that's satan yeah that is yeah that is a devil what

30:56 yeah yeah yeah i think sounds cool awesome yeah and i like how he doesn't talk he just like yeah yeah bubbles and like some weird gibberish and he's like channeling spells yeah so cool so cool and mephistomont mephistoman was like a big villain in one of the movies so this is like another great like repurposing of like another digimon character but he wasn't like i know he was pretty terrifying in the movie actually they like really focused on his like weird go eye and like uh it's just like creepy he's very creepy and i like him a lot so like i think he's a cult and he's worshipping a rock so like i've been watching a lot of like educational youtube videos about like

31:42 religious archaeology and so a lot of what uh historians know about like a lot of early christian sex that died off come from like biblical scholars who like wrote critiques about those those sex like that's the only record of them existing we really have and i would just love to see those ancient christian scholars react to seeing gabuman up on that cross like what would happen if you walked back in time and showed them that image on a crit like a crystal clear ipad and you're like this is the future man and then you just like you know went forward in time no no no no that's what i want to know i i think their head would explode

32:28 that's what you would do to them and then you'd have to deal with that so i'm i'm going to pass on this situation here i really like this episode we saw a lot of growth from matt and we got to we got to see a lot of things that we normally don't get to see from matt who's always like stoic and yeah i'm the cool guy i've got this handle don't worry about it but he like asks joe for help and he's super genuine about it and then we get to see his little like montage as he's climbing up the big mouth it's growth at least asking joe for help he literally says like i can't get to the top alone like yeah like i'm gonna ask for your help which is a direct contrast to what we saw before yeah exactly especially with somebody like joe because it's been shown that that yamado

33:14 doesn't fully like take him seriously we had been asking for a jo yamado episode yes this was good so much you guys i'm so happy to have him oh my god like joe's reaction together i don't think that i would have gotten through it without him and go on there because they bring such like positive energy yeah levity and comic relief with this literal like big freaking spell distraction like i don't think i could have gotten through it without them so the actual setup of the situation is yamada and gabuman get separated and gabumon's captured by mephisman and mephismon is like using the like a sundial to choose when to sacrifice these digimon

34:02 to one of millennium mon's crystals and so the digimon next to uh so satan has sacrificed the digimon alekmon right before gabumon uh and so now yamado's gotta get up the mount you know another like kind of religious imagery right there like uh to rescue uh gabuman who's about to be sacrificed by the devil um and just a little fun fact so that digimon alekmon uh evolves into leomon uh yeah and so this is we saw leo monday and so this is foreshadowing no hey no no and so this is typically what a lekman looks like though the one we saw was

34:48 like an alternative color yeah i i did it in the the little discord chat oh yeah he's cool he's cool he's a little guy yeah in the original show when digimon died they get reincarnated on this little nursery and he's like the digimon who sits there and guards all the eggs oh that's so sweet he's a little sweetie pie uh so i i love the flashbacks with um yamado and we never learned the name sunoman okay i just said uh baby yeah it's kept from us i i think i have a theorem that they're building up to the final arc taking place in the real world and when they travel to the real world

35:33 that's when we're going to see them as babies because like you need like a smaller data cap to to be able to travel that's my that's my theorem and i think we're going to see them all at once um but because yamado is one of the deuteragonists there's a word for y'all it means one of the two protagonists there we i've go said that word before oh my god i'm so happy to share this experience with you thank you so much for including us i i just love yamado trying to avoid sunoman and tsunami just being like oh yeah no worries i have i have business this way too [Music]

37:04 i love like the little salamanders climbing on yeah and then he gets hit by the the vulcan like missile and like the way he falls off he just like flops over yeah he's tumbling down the mountain oh it's just so cool and so um yamado with the help of you know knowledge [Music] so all these people all these like

37:49 creatures are brainwashed and joe unbrainwashes them with just pure un like pure concentrated knowledge oh yeah yeah yeah and uh they start reciting the numbers of pie i was like this is hysterical and so the all the digimon who are under the spell of the this of satan uh the fist man they they they learn and joe becomes the new savior um he you know he cleans up that mess uh with good job you know with knowledge and so yamado makes his way up and he rescues gabuman and a little sweet moment where he's here as he like sprints up those those little spikes yeah yeah that was awesome it's really cool
