Brief Summary

This video discusses Iran and Israel's strategic regrouping following recent conflicts, focusing on Iran's efforts to bolster its air defense and air force capabilities through potential arms deals with Russia and China. It also explores the broader geopolitical implications, including the shifting dynamics between China, the US, Israel, and other Middle Eastern countries.

  • Iran seeks to enhance its air defense and air force capabilities after recent conflicts.
  • Potential arms deals with Russia (SU-35s, S-400s) and China (J-10C, J-35) are being considered.
  • China's growing role as a weapons supplier in the Middle East challenges traditional US dominance.
  • Iran's restrained response to Israel aims to avoid triggering a decisive US intervention.

Regrouping and Arms Procurement

Following a period of conflict, both Iran and Israel are in a phase of regrouping. Iran is actively seeking to expedite weapon deliveries from Russia, including S-300 and S-400 air defense systems, as well as SU-35 jet fighters. The delay in these deliveries has left Iranian airspace vulnerable. Simultaneously, Iran's defense minister has engaged with China at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting, exploring the acquisition of J-10C fighter jets and defense systems.

Chinese vs Russian Arms

Iran is considering Chinese J-10C fighter jets as a cost-effective alternative, priced between $40 to $50 million each. These jets could effectively counter Israeli F-16s, especially given the success of Chinese missiles against advanced aircraft like the French Rafale in the Pakistani-Indian conflict. While Iran has already invested in Russian SU-35s and trained pilots for them, the potential for more affordable and reliable Chinese weaponry is attractive. Russia's arms supply to Iran is influenced by its relationships with Israel and the United States, whereas China faces fewer such constraints.

China's Geopolitical Considerations

China's potential arms deals with Iran are not significantly hindered by its relationships with the US or Israel. The US continues to supply arms to Taiwan, justifying China's potential support for Iran. Historically, Israel served as a conduit for China to access Western military technology, but the US put an end to this around 2000. China's primary consideration is balancing relations with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries like Saudi Arabia, but this is mitigated by China's ability to offer similar defense packages to them, including the J-10C fighter jets.

Middle Eastern Interest in Chinese Jets

Several Middle Eastern countries, possibly including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, are in discussions with China to acquire J-35 fighter jets. Egypt is actively considering both J-10C and J-35 aircraft, highlighted by recent joint military drills between the Chinese and Egyptian air forces. The acquisition of J-10Cs would enable these nations to counter Israeli F-16s, while J-35s could challenge Israeli F-35s.

Potential Shift in Middle Eastern Dynamics

The ongoing conflict could mark a turning point in the US-Israeli partnership in the Middle East, as Iran's response is poised to reshape the region. Despite initial skepticism, Iran's measured approach has revealed its strategic depth, causing concern among Israelis. The Israeli economy has already suffered significant losses, estimated at $5 billion. Iran has been careful to avoid actions that would trigger a full-scale US intervention, such as targeting critical infrastructure like desalination plants or nuclear facilities.

Iran's Restrained Response and Military Priorities

Iran's strategy involves inflicting pain on Israel without causing its imminent collapse, recognizing that the US would intervene to prevent such an outcome. Iran's larger size and population allow it to withstand more damage than Israel. A key priority for Iran is addressing weaknesses in its air defense and air force capabilities. Meanwhile, Israel is struggling to replenish its missile interceptors due to resource constraints in the United States.

0:00 Iran needs time to recuperate, to rebuild. This is what what Israel is doing also, by the way. So the ceasefire is really a It wasn't about ceasefire. It was about Yeah. It was about regrouping. Exactly. It's a pause. So the both side can regroup for too. And for Iran, this is why, you know, they did two things. Uh first, they sent their foreign minister to Russia. Um because they probably right now want to uh want the fast track on some of the weapon deliveries because before this Iran had ordered uh air defense system S300 S400 from Russia. They also order a batch of SU35 jet fighters from Russia, but but they never those ones. They didn't car

0:50 they haven't been delivered. And this is a reason Iranian airspace was wide open for Israelis because they don't have the air force. They don't have the air defense system. And and so I mean for whatever reason they're not delivered. I mean it may be just because Russia right now is so focused on Ukraine. Yeah. and their military industrial complex is geared towards the Ukraine conflict right now. It might be a production bottleneck. It might be there might be some deal that's being worked out. uh you know I I don't know like some people say maybe this is what maybe why uh ex exchange for the west only sent the second hand F16s to Ukraine for for whatever reason you know there was hold up of the air defense system and air force del

1:38 uh and and plane delivery to Iran. Then following that, Iranian defense minister made his first trip to China to attend the Shanghai cooperation uh organization uh meeting and that is important because there's now wide many widespread talks of Iran is in talks with China to acquire J10C fighter jets and Chinese defense systems because uh especially after witness the aftermath of the Pakistani Indian conflict that is correct place recent it really kind of show you know how Chinese uh weapon system can be cost effective because those J10C's they they only cost like 40 to 50 million a piece

2:28 you know it's it's it's it's the cheapest in it category but they will within JTC Iran can deal with uh Israel's F-16 effectively and able if if if the Pakistanis were able to shut down the Raphael's which Raphael's for France considered one of the top in the world and and and the Chinese missiles were you just zoomed at it. I make more sense for the Iranians to go ahead and I'm not saying they should forgo about Russia but you have more affordable weapon from China, more technical advanced and reliable weapon you can count on. Well, I mean, they already pay for their SS S uh SU35. Russia just need to deliver them. They're still waiting on the delivery. Yeah,

3:16 they they already pay for the SU35. Their pilots have been trained on the SU35. So, they're literally just waiting for delivery. So, I think right now they're probably working with Russia to try to help try to uh you know, help fasttrack those delivery of those systems. And but Russia's uh you know, his they're supplying of Iran. they also is tempered by their consideration of the Russia relationship with Israel and United States right whereas China there's less less less uh inhibition on China's parts because uh people were saying well if China supplies wouldn't they have to consider the diplomatic fall off supplying weapons to Iran you know what about uh China's relationship with Israel and United States well first let's talk about

4:03 United States you know what relationship the US is still supplying arms arms to Taiwan. So, so there there's no reason for China not to supply Iran as long as United States keep on supplying weapon with Taiwan. US just finally deliver some F-16s to Taiwan which the Taiwan has paid like a decade ago. They just finally delivered and and again US has a production issue. they have a production like I said US can print money as much as they want but they cannot print fighter jets, ships and missiles. Um the US economy has been so financialized but when you want to fight a kinetic war what you actually need is still industrial capacity which US simply don't have anymore.

4:50 Don't have that. and and when it comes to China's relationship with Israel. So back in the 1980s and 1990s, Israel was a vector through which China could access Western military technology, you know, because Israel, they have full access to US military technology. So Israel was a back door for China to get their hands on those US military technology. But back in around 2000, US put a stop to that. Um which kind of goes to show maybe the you know we can't really say Israel control United States because on the on the thing that really matters to us US can actually put its foot down and tell Israel no no no you cannot sell weapons to China anymore and it stopped and it

5:38 stopped the so so so from 2000 to 2010s onwards that door has been closed so so China no longer needs Israel to get hands on western western tech and and and by by the way and so so so so Israel needs China far more than China needs. So so that's not even that that that it's not even a factor. The only factor China may need to consider is to balancing out uh the GCC the the other Arab countries because you know Saudis they might have concern but again that's not really a big concern because China can offer the same defense package to the to the Saudi as well. I mean Saudi is more than welcome to buy JTC for themselves and and

6:26 there's actually talks of some Arab countries um some Middle Eastern country not Pakistan that's also in talks with China to acquire J35 as they became uh that as they became uh in production. Yeah. and and and and and so so that I I so I'm guessing you know uh you know could be anyone Egypt, Saudi Arabia um and this is actually Egypt is Egypt Egypt already requested Egypt to my knowledge the Saudis sort of refrain from that even though there were talks I remember when I was in Saudi Arabia I came across back then an information that was

7:11 like alarming at the time why the Saudis are talking to the Chinese for that. So I will see it more with the Egyptians that I'll see it with the Saudis at this moment. So thanks Kourse. That makes sense because Chinese air force recently was in Egypt doing a joint drill with Egyptian air force. They flew over the pyramids. I saw the videos. It was quite impressive. So like so so Egypt is thinking about J look they're looking at J10C and J35. So that's

8:02 something that Iran also need to think about you know because with the J10C they can counter the Israeli F-16s with J35 they will be able Israeli F-35 35 that's correct can you imagine the copion if a J35 shot down a F-35 that will be you know that will be the day I I I look forward to the day when a Iranian J35 shoot down a Israeli F3 35 that that will be the you know what Carl you know when this conflict started and I share it with the community I told them that Mike my word on this if these two keep going on this trajectory this will be the final nail on the coffin for the US and Israeli partnership in the region in other word

8:49 the Middle East or West Asia will never be the same because Iran is going to respond and Iran's responding is going to change the equation and and at that time everybody is saying no no No, no, no. The Israelis will wipe out the Iran Iranians. I said, "No, no. You guys don't realize what Iran is doing. Iran is not playing all its cards. This is why the Israelis are asking, have been asking for a halt because they were nervous." And you are right when you said earlier about the economic devastation. This morning I got a confirmation that so far its economy has lost about $5 billion dollar. This is for the Israeli part. So it became clear as to where things are going and Iran has been very restrained. They carry out a very calibrated measure campaign. Look,

9:38 they they what they could have done so much work, you know, they really want to hit the jack. They're they're actually very careful not to hit the jaguar of Israel because they know if they do something that will collapse if if the Israel's imminent collapse is visible, then Washington for sure will enter the war decisively on the side of Israel because US simply will not allow Israel to collapse. So, so you run, you know, you really want to collapse Israel, they could hit the Israeli desalination plan because 80 to 90% of Israel's water come from a handful of desalination plants. You know, Israel can just uh Iran can just send their missiles that way. Yeah. Water. No water. No water. That you know,

10:26 Israel would not be able to function after a week without water. and and they could they they refrain from hitting Israeli nuclear power plant, right? I mean like they they're perfectly within their capability to do so because uh you know people will say oh hitting civilian infrastructure that's a war crime. Well, guess what is Israel has been doing for the whole year and and this is actually NATO playbook when they went uh when they bombed Serbia back during Kosovo war they they bombed the civilian power plants uh water plants bridges radio radio tower television station you know and the Chinese embassy and the Chinese embassy and the Chinese embassy so so so Iran if they did that you know there's

11:15 the the the Israel will expect no sympathy from right. I mean like like if anything people will be cheering and but Iran refrain from doing that because they know if they hit the nuclear power plant if they hit the uh water dissalination plan. Yeah. You that would definitely trigger a very strong US response because US would not allow Israel to collapse. So they what they Iran did is they are punishing Israel by make it suffer pain a lot of pain but not to the point where Israel will it will cause imminent Israeli collapse. So uh so yeah that's whereas Iran because simply because a larger country is more spread out more population it can take a much much more blows than Israel could ever could. Um and so so so right now

12:04 is Iran also expose couple weaknesses in Iran's defense which is their air defense and their air force. I I I imagine that right now it's their top priority to rebuild those capabilities you know before the next round. And and for Israel's side right now, I bet they're scrambling to replenish their missile interceptors because they're running dangerously low and and I don't know how that's going to be resolved because they depend on United States and let's face it, US still have their own uh uh uh resource constraint. you know, they they still haven't they need to figure out how they're going to get the enough critical minerals uh to to to to make those results.
