Would you read with me? I declare that I will come alive and be revived in 2025. My heart will be pure and filled with faith as I line my life with God's will, declaring his word over every aspect of
1:34 my life. Every scheme of the enemy against me, my family in 2025 is rendered no and void. I will overcome every challenge through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. Amen. Is there anybody here today has overcome a challenge lately in your life? Amen. Would you just go ahead and put your hands together and give the Lord a praise for that? Hallelujah. Hallelujah. And and I don't know how many were here at the last spaghetti dinner. Let me see your hand. The first Most of you were here the first one. That's good. It was good, was it? Yes, sir. I don't know who made that sauce, but it
3:53 turned out pretty good. Actually, I do know who made it. uh PGO, but it was PGO that made it and then then a little help from Linda. She threw in some spices into that and we just thank the Lord for that this morning. Amen. Before we move any further in our service, if you're here this morning and if you have contributed any finances to this ministry, whether it be in the offering or whether it be in tithes, would you just slip your hand up? And we're not doing this to embarrass anybody. I I want to I just want to speak something over your life this morning. And I want you right there where you are, just bow your head. Would
4:40 you do that? In Jesus name, I declare the blessings of the Lord over every home and family. That even now the Lord is at work on your behalf. So may your homes be filled with joy, laughter as unexpected blessings begin to pour into your life and to your family. God is adding to your testimonies, giving you more to share about his goodness. I speak increase over you and your home that you will have more than enough for the days ahead. I declare jobs with good pay, benefits, and opportunities for growth that will come your way. I bless employers to prosper in the field that
5:26 God has called you into. And may honest, dependable workers be drawn to you and to your businesses. May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to new ideas and inventions, giving you wisdom to multiply in everything that you do. Because Christ sacrifice on the cross, I declare protection over you from harm, accidents, sickness, and disease. And I proclaim this house is a place of safety, provision, and God's presence. and I bless you in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. If you receive that, put your hands together and give the Lord a great praise. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
6:13 Hallelujah. I'm going to ask my wife to come around at this time and to share what God has laid upon her heart this morning. So, guess what? Um, pastor asked me this morning. He asked me to sing a song with him. Woo! I'll give you one guess as to what I said. I don't sing. I sing. Just you know. Good morning. Happy Independence Day. I have this really corny thing to tell you. When I think of an Independence Day, I think of being independent from Satan's schemes.
6:59 Hallelujah. That is God's grace. He gives us the power to overcome all that mess. I'm so thankful. But that's not what I'm talking about. Anyway, I want to talk to you about Ephesians 2:10. And it says, this is Paul speaking to Christians. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us a new in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. The ESV version says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." So, I'm just going to break out break down a few of these words. The first one I'm going
7:45 to break down is workmanship. Believers are not selfmade, but God made. Amen. The the Greek word, you're going to be so impressed. The Greek word for workmanship is po pou po p po p po p po p po p po p po p po p po p po pouyama from where we get the word po it suggests something crafted with care and purpose like a masterpiece. Yes. Amen. Our lives are like a coin that God gave to us, created us, has a purpose for us. Yes, he does. That makes me feel so special. How about you? Yes. You have to think about these things when you're studying the Bible. And you have you have to because this is
8:33 what I if you know these things, you have the Holy Spirit gives you the ability to go back go out and do them. Stop beating yourself up for the sins that you committed in the past. It's over. Amen. You have to realize what you are in Jesus Christ today. Okay. Amen. All right. So, the next little phrase is created in Christ Jesus. Second Corinthians 5:17 says this means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone. A new life has begun. We are made new through union with
9:20 Christ. not just improved but completely transformed. Yes. And uh the next one is for good works. Remember Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that good works don't save us, right? But they are the purpose of our salvation. Titus 2:14 says, "Jesus gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works." And the last one, which God prepared beforehand, this is very exciting. Psalms 139:16 says, "In your book were
10:10 written, every one of them the days that were formed for me." So, we must have a lifestyle of good works. If you're having trouble determining your purpose, you start with good works and the Holy Spirit will lead you from there. Thank you. You stand with us all over the building this morning. Heavenly Father, we thank you for another beautiful day that you have given us life, oh God. Father, we thank you Lord for health and strength today. God, we thank you, Lord, that you have once again allowed us an
10:56 opportunity to come into this holy place and to lift our hands and our voices and worship a holy God. And we thank you for that, Father. And God, we just ask you from the very beginning of this service that your presence would permeate every place of this building, oh God. Lord, let your presence, oh God, be poured out in a special way today, God. We pray, Lord, that you would receive our praise and our worship, oh God. And Lord, we just ask today, God, that it will not be just a song from our lips. We won't be praising you from our lips, but we're praising you from a pure heart that you have made pure through the blood of Jesus Christ. And Father, we just ask right now, God, that you, oh Lord,
11:44 receive our praise and our worship in Jesus mighty name. Amen. The Bible says that every person, everything that had breath praised the Lord. Is there anybody alive here this morning? If you're alive, guess what? You've got bread. And if you got breath, this is what God says. Let everything that have breath praise ye the Lord. Amen. Let's do that this morning. Let's lift up our voices and praise him today. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. He's worthy of our praise to God. Hallelujah. Every praise to our God.

We need you today, Lord. Lord, we need you more today than ever before, Lord. Thank you. We need you, Lord, because we don't want to go back to our old. We need your power, your strength, Lord. So we need your presence, oh God, because it's in your presence that we find our joy. And that joy becomes our strength
36:18 to live out each day, Lord. We need your touch, oh God, today. I'm not enough, oh God, within myself. And I need you, Lord. I need your touch in my life. I need you to be with me today, God. I need you to move in my life, oh God. I need you to look into my heart, oh God, and move those things out that don't belong there. Yes, Lord. Lord, Lord, let my devotion be only to you, Lord. Yes, Lord. To no other, oh God. Lord, as we surrender our lives to the working of the Holy Spirit today, we ask, oh God, do a work within me.
37:04 Father, your word was confirmed earlier that we are your workmanship. We are your workmanship. Lord, you're at work within us, oh God. And we just ask, oh God, today, Lord, that you would do a mighty work within us, oh God. We're desperate for you, Lord. Lord, there's some things in our lives that need to change, and we can't change them, oh God. We need your power. Yes, we need your intervention, oh God, in every aspect of our lives. Come, Holy Spirit. Would you just lift your hands all over this place and just say, "Come, Holy Spirit.
37:49 Come Holy Spirit into my life and have it work and move and do what you desire to do. Do what only you can do today, God. Do what only you can do. Oh God. Hallelujah. Purchase, oh God. Purchase, oh Lord. Let those dry bones be awakened today. Lord, let that flinger be turned into a flame again. Oh God, let that hunger, oh God, rise to you, oh God. Oh Lord, we love you. We praise you. We need you.
38:37 Holy Spirit, I welcome you into my life to do whatever you want to do today. Thank you. Move in me. Thank you. If you're moving no one else, move in me today. Lord, I want you. I need you today. Thank you, Jesus. Move in my life. Thank you, Jesus. Lord, bring us to that place of realization that we can't do it in our own. Thank you, Lord. We need you. Yes. And God, I know that you have a plan for today. You have a plan for every life, every individual that's here this morning.
39:23 Lord, ages ago, you planned this day, July 6th, 2025 because you wanted to do something. Lord, you knew ages ago who would be here today. And God, we just say do whatever you want to do. Do whatever you want to do, Lord. We're desperate for you. We're desperate for you, Lord. Desperate for you. Hallelujah.
40:12 Praise you, Jesus. Hallelujah. [Music] If you feel comfortable this morning, take your hand, put it on that shoulder, the one beside you, and I just want you to say, "Holy Spirit, move in their life today. Do what only you can do in Jesus name. In Jesus name. In Jesus name. Hallelujah. Do what only you can do Lord.
40:57 Thank you. Do what only you can do Lord. Do what you have purpose. [Music] For our lives today. Hallelujah. Thank you Jesus. We've seen you. Would you turn to your neighbor and tell him the Lord is in this place? The Lord is in this place. Hallelujah. Blessed be your name. Hallelujah.
41:47 How many know that just a second ago that it was real easy to say the Lord is in this place, was it? Didn't take much of your energy. Didn't take a lot of your thought. Just use your vocal cords and said, "The Lord is in this place." But how many this morning really believe that? to believe that the Lord is here. The God of heaven and earth and all creation. The God that said, "Is there anything too difficult for me?" I don't know. I just sense there's somebody here that's going through a struggle in your life and it seems to be very
42:33 difficult. But can I tell you that the God of impossibilities is in this place right now. He's right here beside you today. And he says you can ask anything because nothing is too hard for me. Nothing isn't difficult. With man it may be impossible, but with God all things are possible. Amen. Father, I pray for that one or those this morning that may be struggling in an area of their life. And Father, they've probably come to that place and they've listened to the lie of the enemy that say that nothing's going to change,
43:19 nothing will be different. But today, I declare and decree that the devil is a liar. Yes. and that God is true. And I pray today, God, Lord, that we would just turn that over to you, Lord. You said, "Cast your every care on me, for I careth for you." And this morning, we turn that problem over to you. We turn that difficulty over to you. We turn that situation over to you. We turn that relationship over to you and we just ask God, do what I cannot do. And I thank you for doing that, Father.
44:04 Thank you for doing that. Thank you for working in their life today. I praise you and give you glory and honor in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. And if you have your Bibles this morning, if you would go with me to the book of Leviticus, that favorite book that everyone likes to read. Some of you probably went from Exodus right over to Numbers, and skipped Leviticus, but oh, does it have some truth and some nuggets in it. The Holy spirit has been dealing with me about this message for
44:53 weeks. And I know that the enemy doesn't want me to speak this message to you. He tried last week to hinder it, keep it, but what's that old song say? You can't keep a good man down. Yeah. Leviticus the 10th chapter. Is there anybody here that have been distracted when you were trying to focus and concentrate on something and you got
45:40 distracted? all the time. Somebody's in. Yeah. Distractions. It does seem like they come all the time, don't we? Especially when you purpose something in your heart that you want to do or you want to accomplish, there will always arise a distraction. And I can just testify and tell you today that the enemy is very good at distracting the people of God. He knows he can't take your salvation. So he tries to get you distracted.
46:28 I think distracted on what our life's purpose is. I think number one, our purpose is to glorify God. And I want to just tell somebody this morning that what we just did the last 20 minutes part of this service is the most important part of a church service. More important than the word, pastor. Absolutely. Who are we here for? We here for us. We're here for him. Hello. Amen. You know, and I I was guilty at a younger age of saying thinking in my life. I was guilty of saying, "Boy,
47:15 I really need to go to church. I need a touch today. I need to get something from the Lord today." Why is it we have to wait till we go to a building to be able to get something from the Lord if he's with me every day? Why? Why? Why do we have to wait for Sunday when it's Monday and God can move and do something and change something in your life today? You know, so so I want to say this and it may offend somebody, but Bible says you got to forgive. I love that scripture. God doesn't need a message.
48:00 God doesn't need a sermon. God doesn't need a word. He is the word. But what God wants us is our worship. Amen. And he wants our praise. Amen. And that's why we're here is to give our praise and our worship and adoration to God. This message probably going to take I don't know just telling the Holy Spirit you're in charge. remember how long it could go to six weeks. Pastor, is that long? Bruce only kept us 25 minutes last Sunday. [Music]
48:46 Somebody told me Bruce did good. It was a short and sweet one. I want to talk to you this morning about a subject that's very dear to the heart of God. And you've heard me say this before. I want to talk to you about distractions in the holy place. Distraction in the holy place. How many know this is holy gra that we're standing on? It's holy not because of us, but it's holy because of who's here. That's right. And where God is, it's holy. Amen.
49:35 Amen. I heard some preachers preach a message and got a little bit confused and said that the burning bush that that Moses went over to was holy. It wasn't the bush that was holy. It was the fire from God that's holy. Amen. And he said, "Loosen your sandals. Take off your shoes. For you are standing on holy ground." God was meeting with Moses and speaking to him through a burning bush. Any place that where God is is holy. Amen. Why? Because he's holy. Amen. And where he is is holy.
50:22 Imagine stepping into a quiet prayer room or chapel and there's candles in there and there's flickering. there's incense and it begins to rise up and you know that you've entered a holy place. But now I want you to imagine someone walks in scrolling on their phone, checking social media, laughing at memes, totally unaware of where they are.
51:07 I want to say to you this morning that this is what many of us do spiritually when we walk into the presence of a holy God. If we can grasp his holiness in the next few weeks, I will be ecstatic. to understand and perceive his holiness but our hearts are minds are distracted. I've, you know, mentioned that before
51:54 that we try to start service on 10:30 and and we walked here to a worship service and if um Donald Trump or Ronald Reagan he was alive or Billy Graham, someone like that. Would we enter into their presence the way that we enter into the Lord's presence? Will we come in just halfhazardly thinking about other things instead of thinking about the God? Talking about
52:40 other things instead of talking about God. And it's what I want to speak to you probably today. going to deal with mostly of this about casual worship. Casual worship. It's the danger of casual worship. Look with me to Leviticus chapter 10. And I just want to kind of set this up real quick. Verse 1 to 3 is what we're going to be looking at. In Leviticus here, Aaron and his sons have now been anointed and appointed as the priest for the nation of Israel. That was their calling. That was their duty. That was their responsibility.
53:26 And God gave them specific instructions on what their duties and responsibilities were. These are the requirements of the priest. This is what the priest would do at this time, at this moment, and do it in this way. If you ever go back and you look at the tabernacle in the wilderness, and you would see that God was very specific about how he wanted them to build it. I mean, it had to be out of the certain material. It had to be a certain color. material had to be done a certain way. And and why do you think that God was so
54:13 meticulous about this because in that time that was his dwelling place and God wanted to set up his dwelling place where he would abide in a way that would honor him. And so he gave these duties and responsibilities to the priest. There was a certain time that the priest were to offer up incense to God. And the incense couldn't be just any old incense. It had to be made out of the specific products that God had ordained and set aside for them to use. That incense had
55:01 to be made a certain way. And he said that's the only incense that will be accepted in the holy place. Now let's pick up in Leviticus 10:1. Aaron's sons, Naab and Abahoo, put coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over them. In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire. Underline that in your Bible.
55:48 They disobeyed the Lord. Well, they were burning incense before him, right? Yeah. But it was improper incense. They disobeyed the Lord by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than that he had commanded. So fire blazed forth from the Lord's presence and burned them up. And they died there before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the Lord meant when he said, I will display my holiness through those who come near
56:37 to me. I will display my glory before all the people." And listen to this last four or five words here. forward and Aaron was silent. Can you imagine that picture that Aaron and his two sons were going into the holy place and to offer up fire and incense before the presence of the Lord. And their sin was they thought that they could approach God in their own way
57:25 instead of the way God outlined. How many times does that happen in our lives as Christians that we think that we can just come to the Lord any way that we want to? Psalm said, "Who can approach the holy hill of God?" Or, "Who else? Who can come into the presence of a holy God?" And he prescribed those who could. He that had clean hands and a pure heart. These two boys didn't have a pure heart because they decided they were going to do what they wanted to do instead of what God commanded them to do. See, you have to understand that when
58:11 God laid these uh prerequisites and these conditions out before them that that this was not something that he could say, well, if you feel like it, you can do it this way or if you think there's a better way, you can do it this way. No, he said this is the way that it will be done in the presence of my holiness. And because they disobeyed God and dishonored his holy place and did not give him the reverence that he was due, the Bible said that fire came out and consumed Nab and Adam. Aren't you glad we're not living in the Old Testament days?
58:58 I said that. I said, "Well, thank God I'm not living in Old Testament days, but I'm still serving the God that was in the Old Testament that's living today." And God never changes. God never changes. They decided they were going to do it on their terms, the way that they wanted to. And guess what? It wasn't acceptable unto the Lord, was it? Matter of fact, it was kind of displeasing to him, right? Hello. Did I put you on this weekend yet? Everybody's got real quiet. May have some of the ushers go around and shake some chairs and make sure you're awake.
59:46 They did it in their own way, what they felt like they wanted to do. Casual worship refers to the way that we approach God in a relaxed, indifferent, or lacking reverence. It It's not about the style of worship. Have you seen churches out in front and they got traditional at 9:30 and contemporary or uh what was the Yeah, contemporary at 10:30. In other words, you got traditional worship and contemporary worship. And
1:00:35 sometimes I look at that, I used to think, well, that's pretty good because, you know, you can get one group of people that like this here and get another group of people like like it there. But you know what we're doing? We're dividing the body of Christ. I like my way. I'm only going to do it my way. I don't like your way. You can do it your way. And we cause division within the body. It it's not here. We have to understand that that it's not about the style of worship, but it's rather about the posture of our heart in worship. Amen. It's not about it's not about whether we we sing, you know, off of the wall or if we sing from off of a page of paper. It's all about the heart of a worshipper. I mean, that's what God is looking at, right? Jesus said in John
1:01:22 chapter 4, "Now is the time that the father seeketh those who will worship him in spirit and in truth." In spirit and in truth. He's seeking. He's longing for that. Scripture consistently calls for worship that is sincere. Worship that's reverent and God centered. How many know worship is not about me? Amen. It's not about my problems. It's not about what I want or what I need from the Lord. I love the song. I think it was Michael W. Smith that wrote that song. I'm coming back to the heart of worship and it's all about you. Lord, I'm sorry for the things that done made it when it's all about you. Worship
1:02:07 really has nothing to do about me, but it's all about him. Amen. We we ought to come into his holy presence. And there should be such an awe in a reverence about where we are going and where we are entering into the holy pleas presence that all we want to do is to fall down on our knees and to worship God in his presence. I think I put that scripture in the bulletin this morning. Psalm I think it was chapter 92. Casual worship it can be dangerous for several reasons. And we're going to look at those reasons real quick this morning. There was a story of a young man who went on a job interview and it
1:02:53 was at this uh prestigious law firm. This law firm had been established for over a century. And uh it has been known as one of the greatest law firms in all of the nation. And this young man went for a job interview and he arrived late. He was wearing flipflops. walked into the interview room chewing gum and scrolling on his phone and and there was the firm's founder, a man known for his discipline and known for his high standards. He looked at the gentleman and the only thing he could do, he nodded his head and said, "This interview's over."
1:03:38 That even started and he said, "This interview is over." And the young man was shocked and he looked at him and he said, "What?" And the gentleman looked back and responded. He said, "The interview is over because you didn't treat this opportunity with the seriousness it deserves." And boy, that jumped out at me. Do we treat this opportunity we have to come into the presence of a holy God unseriously? You think we do that sometimes? Sometimes we we just casually try to enter in and and and enter into his
1:04:25 presence the way that we want to. Now imagine coming into the presence of the King of Kings, the Lord of glory, the one said, "I'm El Shadiah, the great I am." The one that parted the Red Sea. The God that said, "There's nothing too difficult for me." And we come into his presence and treating that holy moment as it's something that's casual or common. This is the danger we face when we approach God with a casual attitude as it pertains to worship. No casual. It's not, you know, it's not about casual clothing.
1:05:11 It's not about musical preferences, but the danger is is having a casual heart in approaching the presence of God. Here's the first thing that happens. Number one, you'll throw that on the screen for me there, brother. Casual worship dishonors the holiness of God. Casual worship dishonors the holiness of God. See, God had given specific instructions for how you to do worship, how you are to enter into his presence.
1:05:57 Come into his what does it say? Come into his presence with singing. I will enter his gates with thanksgiving. Enter into his courts with praise. I will say of the Lord, he is my God and he is my master. But these two priests thought it was fine to do things their way. Their irreverence cost them their lives. And I want you to see the seriousness of this today. I don't think it's not as serious today as it was back then. I think sometimes we can look and say, "Well, you know, it was real serious back then because God was training them and teaching them." Well, it's just as serious today as it was back then.
1:06:44 Amen. About entering into the presence of God. Can I can I say to you that something that I feel that we casually do and I don't think we intentionally do this. I think we casually do this is we try we try to make God to be our peer. He's like somebody just like us. You know, he's like one of us. And we try to bring him down to that level of being our peer. And can I tell you, you know, it kind of bothers me a little bit that Christians talk about the man upstairs. He's not the man upstairs. Amen. He's God Almighty. Hallelujah. Amen. He's God Almighty. He's not somebody that we could halfhazardly call the man upstairs. He's the holy one of Israel.
1:07:30 And God said, "You shall have no other gods before me. I am the Lord your God and I only." See, when we treat God lightly in worship, what we do is we misrepresent his character. Amen. How many know that God's character is holy? He's a holy God. He's not unholy. He's holy. Worship is not a performance. Oh, I can stay on that for a while. Worship's not entertainment. No. You know, we look at some of the groups today and it looks like nothing but than a than a concert or entertainment. But worship's not that. Worship is all about us honoring God and reverencing
1:08:18 who he is. Amen. Worshiping him. It's not a time to check the box. Well, I went to church Sunday morning, lifted up my hands. Hallelujah. Said that, too. And uh yeah, now I worship God. No, you didn't. You've been deceived. You thought that just because you came in and sang a song, lifted your hands and even shed a little tear that you reverenced God. It's a sacred encounter in worship with a living God. He's not a dead God. He's a living God. And we are encountering him in our worship service. That's what it's all about. How many you ever seen uh what was that thing? Uh strange encounters of the third third. Is that what it was? Strange
1:09:03 encounters. It was close. There it is. Thank you. I knew we had one of those uh one of those fiction guys. Close encounters of the third kind or the third place. God every time we walk through the doors of that building, but not just on a Sunday, but when we set aside Sunday, this is what's so great is we get to come together as a family and worship God corporately. Ain't that great? Yes. You know, hopefully I heard one preacher say, "If the people don't worship God in church, it just shows that they don't worship God at home.
1:09:50 We can come together as a family and there's all different styles of worshiping, right? You know, if it all comes from a pure heart, there's different styles of worshiping. You know, you may be worshiping by doing this. You're worshiping God. You know, and you can worship God by doing a little jig like that. You're worshiping God. Some may worship God by Some may worship God by stomping. Some may worship God in their crying. But that's the good thing. That's the thing. We're not all the same. We can blend all that together as an act of reverence and respect and all to an awesome God who took our lives when we were meant for death and gave us life eternal. And he
1:10:38 lives within us. And that's what he's wanting from us. We get to do that every day. And I think that when we enter into the doors of the church, we ought to say, "I'm here today to have an encounter with God." Have you ever had an encounter with somebody that maybe changed you? Maybe changed the way that you thought or the maybe your perspective about something because of an encounter. I don't know about you and I've read through the New Testament all this year just kind of hanging out there and every time that Jesus encountered someone, something happened. There was a change that took place.
1:11:23 I don't know about you, maybe you're not that bad, but I need a change every day of my life. I need an encounter with God. And and I'm so thankful that I have the privilege and you had the privilege to encounter the God of all the universe. Amen. I guarantee you, you can write as many letters and make as many phone calls as you want to and you can't even get to the governor's office and have a face to face encounter with him. But I want to tell you, there's one greater than the governor here. that he says, "Draw nigh unto me and I'll draw nigh unto you." He's just waiting for us to take that step and to
1:12:09 draw nigh unto him. The second thing that's a danger about casual worship is that casual worship breeds spiritual apathy. Casual worship will breed spiritual apathy. Anybody remembers Revelations 3:1 15- 16? You remember what it says? Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spew you out of my mouth. Why? Because you are lukewarm. See, the Leodysy in church had become complacent. They just, you know, they kind of went through the motions like a lot of churches do today. We just go through
1:12:54 the motions. We come and we check a box off. Well, we did that Sunday. will come and do it again next Sunday. And they become complacent in their relationship and their worship to God. They got to the place and say, you know, hey, we don't need anything. We're rich. You know, Jesus said, you're poor. You're naked. They come lukewarm. Their worship was half-hearted. Their hearts were far from God. And this is the danger of casual worship. It leads to spiritual numbness. What's bad is if you come in and offer up just a casual irrevant worship to God, your heart's become numb because you can do it Sunday after
1:13:39 Sunday and it not affect you and it not tell you, "Hey, something's wrong. I better make a change in my life. There's something I got to get right between me and God." This is the danger of it. It leads to that spiritual numbness. Here's what happens. You get to go a Sunday and I think a lot of us get to that place. You'll come into the doors of church on a Sunday and you won't be expecting God to move. How many don't raise your hand. Please don't raise your hand. We like to pray if we do. But how many really came to the church and opened up the door and when you stepped in the door in your mind you're saying, "Man, I'm expecting God to do something for me today. I'm expecting God to move in this house today." I think a lot of times we came in and say, "Hey, how was the beach over there? Did you do any circle mugs?" They
1:14:25 they told him, "Did you go to the crab place and eat some crabs while you were over there? Hey, hey, did you get your grass mow? Man, I was so wet. You know, I couldn't even mow the grass because it's been raining so much for, you know, and all of those things are not wrong, are they? But what about when God is here to receive our worship and we casually enter in not even thinking about him, not even with an expectation on God to move and to change somebody's heart and change somebody's life. That's the danger of it. We And and here's the next thing. We stop confessing sin. But if there's anything we need to do is confess our sins. Amen.
1:15:11 Confess your sins one to another. Why? That you may be healed. Thank God that we have a promise from God. First John said, "If you confess your sins, that he's faithful and just to forgive you." And not only forgive you, but I love the last part, and cleanse you from any form of unrighteousness. That's what he does. But how many knows he's waiting to do that upon me confessing? That's one thing we don't preach a lot in churches anymore, do we? We need to confess sins. You know, I guarantee if we'd asked somebody, we probably had close to 90% of people that sinned this week. You said something you shouldn't have said, had a bad attitude. You did something you shouldn't have done. You made some oxyen gesture that you
1:15:56 shouldn't did because that guy pulled out in front of you. Hello. He saw you. You know, we need we need to do that. I remember my stepdad, he was an old retired railroad engineer. And every time we ate, whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he he prayed. It was his responsibility to pray over what we were eating. And the first thing he said was, "Dear dear God, forgive us of all my sins." every time it I felt like it was a habit. But then I said, man, maybe I sinned and kind of put it to the back of my mind and I didn't remember it, but I'm going
1:16:42 to say, God, forgive me of all of my sins if I and cleanse me. And then once he did that, then you'd ask God to bless the food. And how many know that once you've done that, the food gets good? Amen. It turns out real good after you've been forgiven of your sins. It's like eating a meal, you know, while you're scrolling on your phone. You know, you're sitting there eating a meal, you don't savor the flavor, you don't even remember what you ate. Hello. I've seen people that were just so busy on the phone, they didn't even know what I could have thrown something on their plate and they could have ate it. They didn't even know what they were eating. You ever seen that distracted, that caught up into something? I see them doing that. you know, they're not eating, but they're running off the road because they're texting somebody or Facebooking somebody or checking who's posted what.
1:17:30 The same happens when we worship with distracted minds and divided hearts. Here's the third danger of casual worship. It reduces God down to our level. It reduces God down to our level. We sing, we, you know, we say things like, "Oh, well, God's my buddy." I heard somebody the other day at work and he said, he said, "Jesus is chill." What is that? You heard that one yet, Travis? He's younger than me. He might have heard something I didn't hear. I You know, I should have stopped and asked him, "What does that mean?" I don't think he was doing it reverently.
1:18:16 Jesus is is chill and and while God is relational and he's approachable through Jesus Christ and I say thank the Lord for that he's still the sovereign king. Psalm 95:6 says come let us bow down and worship let us kneel before the Lord our maker. You see, true worship involves humility and it involves a sense of awe that we have an all about who he is. Casual worship on the other hand often exalts the self. It exalts me. It's not exalting him. If it comes about our preferences, it becomes about our feelings. It becomes about our comfort. You know, we we want
1:19:03 to feel comfortable. Can I tell you, worship isn't about how it makes you feel, but it's all about what it declares about God. You ever heard somebody say, "Man, I got to go to church to worship because I'm not feeling good." Or, "I hope I can really worship, experience the presence of the Lord so I can feel better when I leave." It's not about you feeling a certain way. It's about you giving what he deserves. Amen. Amen. Is there anybody here this morning that your God deserves all of your praise? Amen. Is there anyone? There's one here. We got a couple here. Amen. Amen. He deserves it. And matter of fact, not only does he deserve it, he's here expecting to receive it.
1:19:49 Amen. He's looking for that. And so when we come in and and we're we're irreverent irreverent about that and we don't have the all about that, we don't give him the praise that he deserves. We kind of just bring him down and reduce him down to our level. The fourth thing about casual worship is this. I've been here before I became a minister. casual work opens the door to hypocrisy. Hypocrisy.
1:20:34 You know what word we get out of that from the Greek? It's actor. I wish I'd read that what the Greek word for hypocrisy is, but it's one with different faces. You ever seen people like that? you know, they can put on a mask and and fit in here. Then they get over with this group of people and they can, you know, change the mask and fit in with these religious folk over here and get with some charismatic and they can put on that mask and all of that. That's what hypocrites are. They're changed. They're not they're not true to who they really are. And and I was I was going to church when when I just got out of the Air Force. I was going to church because that was the thing that you did on Sundays. And I would go to church and I was
1:21:22 living like the devil. Sometimes I even acted like the devil. And I'd stand there in the worship service and I knew the song and I'd sing the song. I'd lift my hands up. Fit in with everybody, you know. And and here's one thing. It took me a while to realize this. Who am I trying to please? cuz I hid what I was doing to everybody around me and they saw me with my hands lifted up. Oh boy, he sure is. He's sure close to God. He's got a great relationship with God. Look at him. He's worshiping the Lord. Even got a tear coming out of the eye. You know, he's good. But they didn't know me.
1:22:11 But God saw me. And you can't fool God. Matter of fact, you can't hide anything from God. I remember my mom one time, she came into my room and and she said, "I just want to tell you something. You're hiding something from me." And I said, "What do you mean I'm hiding something from you? I know it. I can sense it. God told me you were hiding something from me." And I said, she said, "What's under your mattress?" And you know, you know, we're always honest with mom. Oh, mom, there's nothing under the mattress. What are you talking about? She goes over, flips that mattress up. She said, "Uh-huh. I knew it." She pulls it out from the mattress. She says, "Just remember this. You may
1:22:57 fool others, but you're not fooling me." And you may fool everybody around you, but you're not fooling God. God doesn't look on the outside of man. He looks right directly into your heart. Matthew chapter 15 verse 89 says this, "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from you." Talk about some of the Pharisees, those religious people. You've seen religious people before. They honor me with their lips. In other words, they're singing the song. They're acting like they're worshiping, but their heart is so far from me. Jesus said, "Be careful about
1:23:43 them. They worship me in vain." In other words, it's not acceptable. It's not doing any good. It's not honoring God. And it's still not affecting you. Just makes you become more numb to to God. What Romans 12:1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, and watch this, and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. How many know we can offer sacrifices up to God that's not acceptable?
1:24:28 And how many know we can offer up what we call worship to God and it not be acceptable? because it's not what God requires in worship as these two gentlemen here they found out. It's not acceptable to God. Only reverence and all that comes from a pure heart is acceptable. And and I can tell you this that acceptable worship is giving God devotion and giving him adoration from a heart of obedience. Amen. It's from a heart that obeys God. These young men here didn't obey God. They should have obeyed God. They could have spared their life if they had obeyed God. But they wanted to do what they wanted to do instead of what God commanded them to do.
1:25:17 Number five, I got bring this close. Casual worship, this is so true, quenches the presence and the power of God in our lives. Casual worship quenches the presence and the power of God. Anybody remember what First Thessalonians 5:19 said? Very short verse. It says, "Quench not the Holy Spirit." Quench not the Holy Spirit. When our hearts are cold, when our hearts are distracted or disinterested in worship, we hinder what God desires
1:26:02 to do in our lives and in our churches and the devil will make sure that you get distracted in worship. Amen. Have you ever I know you shouldn't be doing this, but have you ever observed their times of worship? What people are doing during worship? And listen, we think it's funny, right? But it happens and it's so true. And and and here we are and we think we're worshiping God. And we're scrolling away and looking about who posted last night. I've got a couple haters on here and you know, I don't like what they said. You text them back.
1:26:48 You look at people that when time when it's where we come and give God what he deserves, what he wants and we're just I'm not saying you have to worship like me. Please don't understand me cuz I may get weird sometimes and worship God in a weird way. You know, I may I may one day take off dancing. that you don't have to worship like me, but God wants you to worship in your own way. You know, everybody here probably worships different than the other person. I guarantee you Bruce probably worships different than Linda does. You know, I know I worship different than my wife does. She's real quiet,
1:27:36 real reverent, and I'm out there. Thank you, Jesus. Hallelujah. Glory to God. She real quiet, you know, but the fact is she's still worshiping. She's still worshiping. You can look at a person and tell if they're worshiping or not. You can tell if a person's distracted. You ever had a conversation and cat down there at the restaurant this week? Yeah. Go ahead.
1:28:22 Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know, she knows I'm distracted. I'm carrying on a conversation with her and all of a sudden now my attention is not at her. My attention is on something else and she knows that. And you can see where people get distracted because our attention should be on God and our attention is somewhere else that it doesn't belong. That's right. Amen. Distractions. Casual worship quenches the presence of God. God does not dwell in a place where he is treated as common. Amen. I want you to get a hold of that today before we leave. God does not dwell in the place where he's just treated as common
1:29:09 and casual. He said, "Be you holy even as I am holy." He's not a common God. Amen. Turn your neighbor and tell him he's not a common god. And number six, and I'm going to close. Casual worship fails to prepare us for eternity. How many have plans, already made plans for your eternity? Anybody? We got a couple. Good. I got a good older call this morning. Hallelujah. Amen. If you had made plans for eternity, you better do it today because you may slip into it in a few moments and then what are you going to do? Amen. Think about this.
1:29:58 Revelations 4 10 and 11. The 20 and four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and they worship him who lives forever and ever and ever. If we can't worship God down here, Conrad, how do we expect to worship God when we get there? You know, I think this is just a preparation that we're just warming up, getting prepared because I think we're going to join those 20 and four elders and the seraphim that cry out, "Holy, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty."
1:30:46 We're going to give him worship. We're going to give him praise. And And if you're not comfortable doing it here, how are you going to do it there? And I understand that. I know some people, especially if they weren't raised in church. Is there anybody here that wasn't raised in church? Anybody got one, two, three? Greg, you weren't raised in church? No. Wow. You weren't Hey, wasn't you weren't you weren't raised in church? See, I was I was raised in church. I mean, from the day I was born, I was in church and became a drug addict. Drug at Sunday night service, drug Monday service, drug service, drug to Friday night prayer meeting, drug Saturday, you know, and and so I was raised in church. But I understand that people who are not raised in church, when they come into an environment like this,
1:31:32 you know, or, you know, kind of shy or, you know, I don't want to do this wrong. I don't know how to do this. You know, we expect when people get saved that they know everything about what being saved is all about. They know how to act and and how to worship and all this and and and they don't. And and sometimes they come in and they're a little a little leery about lifting their hands. You know what? There's nothing wrong with lifting your hands. And I want to say this, you can come in here, you can lift your hands, you can dance, you can clap, you can do anything if it's coming from a pure heart as worship unto the Lord. If it's coming to draw attention from yourself, no, you can't do it. Amen. I've seen them come in and they do it
1:32:18 all. They do it just to draw attention from themselves. When you do you understand when you draw attention to yourself, you're drawing away from God and you're making yourself a God. You focus on me instead of on him. It hinders it hinders our preparation for spending time with God. If you don't enjoy spending time with someone, would you want to spend eternity with them? you're you met with somebody you just didn't want to spend a lot of time with. I mean, you were cordial, you were friendly, but that's not somebody you just wanted to hang out with, right? I know everybody's got one of those people. Maybe your boss, hopefully it's not your spouse, but uh
1:33:04 it's one of those people that you're just an acquaintance with, but if you had the choice, they wouldn't be on your top 10 list of who you wanted to go fishing with or who you want to go play golf with. Now, Charlie, if he if he wants to go and and go fishing, he wants to be with me, right, Charles? Amen. We got to teach Charles how to say it. Amen. [Music] Amen. Go. We can talk up some stuff. Amen. And we can share with one another. It's about that. And And I love doing that. Hebrews 12:28. And I'm going to close. I know this is the third time I've said this. Third closing. Four more. It said, listen to this. Write it down.
1:33:50 Hebrews 12:28-29. Let us offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe. For our God is a consuming fire. He's a consuming fire. If you don't believe that, just go look at these two priest that offered up casual fire to the Lord and see if he's not a consumer or not. Consume him. Our God is a consuming fire
1:34:40 and he wants us to offer acceptable worship to him. Let me ask you questions. Go ahead and stand. Don't answer these. Just go home and citate. Do I treat worship as a sacred moment? Just ask yourself that sometime this week. Think about it. Ponder on it. Do I do I really treat worship as a sacred moment? Here's another question. Am I giving God my best or is he getting leftovers? You know, there's some things that are
1:35:25 better left over, right? Like uh what is it? Spaghetti. You know, when you eat spaghetti, if it's in the in the refrigerator for a day or two, it seems to get better. And I'm going to tell you what I found out that gets better in the refrigerator, but a lot of times it don't stay in the refrigerator. Is cheesecake. Mhm. I mean, it's good the first day you eat it. The second day it's even better, Scott. And you don't like cheesecake? No. Oh, bless your heart. We'll pray for you after. Third day, that cheesecake is is wonderful. It just tastes better. But God deserves that best, doesn't he? Yes. You know why I want to give God my best? Because he gave me his best. That's the least I can do is to offer up
1:36:11 my very best to him. God doesn't want our leftovers. But how often do we give God our leftover times? We do everything else that's on our agenda. And oh, right before I go to sleep, I've got five minutes. Let me let me read a little word of God. What about worshiping God? What about coming into his presence and just bowing before him and just reverence him and give him lavish him with your with your worship and lavish him with your love? And then here's the third question. Is my heart truly engaged when I worship the Lord? Have you ever been in worship and somebody comes distract you? You be engaged with worship.
1:36:57 I can remember not long ago she hit me with this on the arm. Not hard. She's anxious. She I can remember long ago I was I was worshiping the Lord and and see worship is it's worship is like communication. Yeah. It's not just me telling the Lord all this, but the Lord speaks back to us in worship. Amen. you know, he you are my child and I love you. And and he speaks to us and and so I'm there worshiping the Lord and and and it's like God begins to speak to me and I go ahead and keep it and and somebody come and just Hey pastor, did you know the water's
1:37:42 weakening? I've never guess where my worship level went to the to the water fountain. Right. Exactly. You know, and and here's the thing, and you know, we we we poke fun at it all like that, but what I want us to leave with is this. Be careful that we're not doing anything or are that individual that the enemy can use to distract someone who's giving God reverence and awe and worship. Because see, it's in those moments when we encounter God. Like I said, when you encounter God, something changes in your life. Every time you have a spiritual encounter with God, something's going to
1:38:29 change. Jesus never left anybody that the way they were. He had an encounter with them, something changed. And I don't want to prevent whatever you need God to do and change in your life simply because I thought something was more important. Amen. Amen. Let's bow our heads. Father, I just thank you today, God, for your word. And I thank you, God, for who you are. And I just pray this morning, Father, that in this moment, God, that we would do kind of a self-examination.
1:39:14 And father, these things that we talked about this morning, Lord, I just pray that God that we won't be guilty of being a casual worship. But Father God, that we will worship you in spirit and in truth. That's what you're seeking for. It's not that we're fearful or afraid of you, but it's that we recognize who you are. and we give you the respect for who you are. You are almighty God and you deserve reverence and you deserve all.
