00 hi everyone it's Heidi again if you're new here I'm an American who left the United States for the first time just a few months ago and I'm sharing my experience and thoughts about it now today we are talking about Germany which don't tell anyone but that was my favorite place to go if you like the video make sure to like And subscribe I also stream on Twitch and I would love to meet you over there but let's get into it the majority of our trip was in Frankfort we did have one day in Cologne but today I'm going to specifically talk about Frankfurt and getting there first so from Paris to Frankfurt we actually took a highspeed train it's the first time I've ever taken a high-speed train before and I really enjoyed it it was like being on a plane but a lot more chill um I could go to the food cart and order food it was not bad the people
47 working in the food car were extremely nice it was actually quite a refresher after Paris people were nice enough but not incredibly friendly and so it was really cool they helped me to decide what to eat they gave me recommendations they were completely fine with English and I felt very comfortable speaking English with them one of mine and hail hubby's favorite Parts about taking the high-speed train instead of a flight was that we were able to have our luggage just on the car with us they had racks that you could put your luggage so there was no you know waiting for your luggage when you land there was no losing your luggage you're always within like 20 ft
34 of your luggage that was really awesome and I never thought I would appreciate that so much so we ordered a couple of sandwiches ordered some drinks some juices but the one thing that I decided that I needed to order was a Heineken beer for background in college I had a small group of friends who nicknamed me hinin I was Mormon at the time I didn't drink beer and so they thought it was funny and my name's Heidi so it's kind of close so this was finally my chance to try the Heineken beer that I've always heard about in Germany and I have to tell you I hated it it was straight piss it was so gross very disappointed one of the first things that I noticed when we got to Frankfurt
20 was that the sidewalks were split between walking and biking Lanes I thought it was really cool because usually here in the United States the biking Lane will be in the street it won't be part of the sidewalk and sometimes it causes accidents and it's just it seems really unsafe to me so that was really nice to see in a lot of areas the sidewalk was really clean and open in some areas it was a little Messier maybe a little too small for my taste but for the most part it was just really nicely set up for pedestrians and I really liked that that's something we don't have here in the United States very often unless you're in a super big city and then some sometimes it's even iffy in those areas so it was nice to feel really comfortable walking anywhere
06 because we basically walked everywhere we went on our trip and just like Paris I thought that the streets and the apartments alongside were very charming and really cute I really liked being there in Frankfurt where we stayed it was pretty quiet and just really chill we actually had a forest in the back of the house we didn't really have buildings um behind our Airbnb and it was very beautiful one of the things that I was very shocked about was that the birds sounded extremely different than the birds I'm used to there was some bird chirps and sounds that I was like what is that thing I've never heard this sound before so that's
53 kind of cool and it reminded me that we are on like the opposite side of the world it was just fun and very different for me very good to get out and experience something different you know something about our Airbnb in particular was um the windows you know you always hear about Americans struggling with opening and closing German windows and all of that but thank goodness I saw a YouTube short I think talking about how you can open German windows in two different ways um so I was actually able to teach hail hubby how to open a German window and I was very proud of myself but the thing that I was not used to was that there were no screens actually I think in any place that we stayed in
38 Europe there were no screens I missed the screens to be honest because we had to really figure out how to manage the time of day time of night um to make sure that we didn't get bugs into the places we were staying the lady who was renting out the Airbnb to us actually gave us a little tour gave us some advice let us know where their grocery stores were she was actually awesome but she warned us about the bugs she said do not have the windows open with the lights on at night you'll get a lot of bugs in here and we're like yeah yeah yeah sure thing but we we we kind of tried we put a little bit of effort but definitely not enough effort because we got so many bugs in our Airbnb that
23 first night it was pretty bad thank goodness they all kind of died off the next day but we definitely got very good very quickly at at having the lights off or the window shut at the appropriate times and being very very aware so that was a new way of living that I'm not really used to I love screens because you're able to get the fresh air um or the warmth or the cold whatever you need and then um you don't get bugs in there it just makes sense to me let me know what you guys think about screens do you like them do you wish you had more people who live in Europe or are you like no we like our open windows we prefer no screens what do you think let me know in the comments something that I loved about where we were staying was
10 that like I said the neighborhood was extremely quiet it was just really nice and chill but we were also just down the street from a major train station so it made it very easy for us to even with our luggage get to our Airbnb and back and one of my favorite parts and this is where I first discovered that I am so sad that we don't have a grocery store within walking distance I was ruined in Frankfurt because we were about a six minute walk from the grocery store which for a lot of places in Europe is a little bit longer than usual actually I think that was the farthest we were from a grocery store to be honest but oh my gosh
55 I wish I was near a grocery store it was so nice to just be able to walk grab some food bring it back we had breakfast at the Airbnb and maybe when we were running out of milk or bread or something like that then one of us just walked to the grocery store and grabbed whatever we needed we didn't have to hop in a car use gas to you know Park and then walk in to get our groceries at any time it was really lovely and I think I actually cried when I got home because I missed it so much you guys are we actually went shopping a little bit in Germany and I actually really loved the style there I actually am wearing an outfit that I got in Germany little shirt and skirt I think
43 it's really cute not the necklace that was a gift from somebody but kind of cute little slit I actually use this outfit now as a travel outfit I think the skirt is really cute but also extremely comfortable and that's pretty cool so anyway and it's fun to say oh yeah I got this in Germany there were several places that I loved loved eating at I really liked German food for the most part we really enjoyed anything that we ate or drank at restaurants one of the restaurants I was really impressed with was it was called aspel Vine or something like that it had apple wine which was actually so good I don't remember if we took a tram or if we
28 walked to this place but Google Maps got us there we love Google Maps when we got there it looked really small we're like are we in the right place is this a restaurant I don't know if this even exists anymore it looks so small from the outside but we walked through this hallway past a bunch of servers doing their thing I don't know if we walked in the correct way or not whoops but then we walk into kind of a courtyard with lined uh tables and umbrellas waiters were walking around and and people were just drinking and having a good time just very chill I was really happy because I didn't hear any English if you guys watched the Paris episode we went to a restaurant and that's all I heard was English I heard some Chinese too but
15 this made me feel like okay I'm I'm hearing German this is where the locals go it seems so I was really excited to start one of the waiters came up to us and I asked her if she spoke English she said yes she seemed pretty chilly about it she sat us down and she was very helpful with helping us read things on the menu I knew what I wanted because I had seen certain videos of uh meals that I really wanted to try at a more German based restaurant so I asked her if I could get the the egg and green sauce dish I didn't know what it was called and then later on I found out that's exactly what it's called is eggs and green sauce there very straightforward loved that and hail hubby got some
02 schnitzel schnitzel yeah schnitzel very classic it was really good both of potatoes we got were delicious I personally loved the eggs with green sauce that was actually one of my favorite things I ate in Germany it was just really refreshing especially since it was hot we were in Europe during a an extreme heat wave um and Germany man our Airbnb didn't have AC we took like three cold showers a day just to stay cool and so it was a really refreshing thing to eat in the summer time and then with that apple wine or whatever it is oh my gosh it was so good I think we got slightly Tipsy by how much of that we drank because it was
47 just delicious and I believe I've heard from you guys that apple wine is actually apple beer but let me know what it actually is I actually don't know all I know is that it was fantastic and I do think that I've heard that the lined tables the long tables with umbrellas is a Octoberfest style restaurant correct me if I'm wrong but it was really fun I just feel like everyone was kind of sitting near each other it was just it was really chill I felt very comfortable there one of my favorite parts of going to this restaurant it was Outdoors there was no roof that's why there are umbrellas obviously it actually started to rain a little bit it wasn't too bad but it started to sprinkle I guess while we were eating there and I kind of
32 looked around like oh are people going to start moving I'm pretty sure the only people who decided to request another table under more cover were tourists and it was so funny all the Germans were so chill they were just enjoying their time they were just you know getting hit by the rain and just not caring they were just enjoying life and I it was beautiful I absolutely adored it we also also went to the very famous rberg um location it's it was really cute it was very beautiful we stayed there maybe an hour there wasn't really a lot to engage in I think they had a couple of little restaurants there were a lot of shops for tourists to buy
20 things I just I didn't really care much for the area I think I think it was really cute we got some cute pictures and then we were out of there pretty quickly I do have to to say that the most memorable part of roomberg in my opinion was actually a really bizarre thing that we ran into that had to do with the United States it was very strange we walked into this building because there was a big poster above the entrance that said a plastic Museum and it looked really cool we're like oo let's go to this didn't realize that was just an advertisement when we actually went into the building it was completely bare except for like four giant posters just in the middle of the floor that talked about drone activity and like
07 unethical drone activity going on in the United States it was like this weird United States propaganda right in the middle of Germany and I'm I'm assuming it was there because so many Americans come to visit this one area cuz it's very very touristy but that was just so weird to me I really wish that I had taken some videos or pictures cuz I really want to remember exactly what it said it was very very interesting to run into something like that in the middle of Germany let me know if you guys run into stuff like that sometimes does that happen often or is that just like so out of the blue that that never happens I kind of hope so something that we did for the first time ever in our entire lives was actually buy a bottle of wine from the store Hal hubby and I have just
52 never done that the only wine that we had tried was at the Paris restaurant and on the plane and it was really fun there were just aisles of delicious looking wine bottles at the grocery store for like three to four and so we decided to get a red wine take it home and it was also beautiful because we don't even have a a liquor store in our city we have one in the city next door but we're not really able to buy wine from just the grocery store here so it was really fun I loved having that option just within walking distance of our Airbnb when we got home though we were wanting to cool it down a little bit I don't know if that's acceptable with red wine I have no idea we kind of
39 debated and came to the conclusion that maybe we could try putting it in the freezer instead of the refrigerator to cool it down faster and in my mind I'm like well you know vodka is fine in the freezer Whiskey's fine in the freezer so maybe wine is too I just have no idea but we thought we'd give it a try very bad bad idea we actually forgot that the wine was in the freezer all night and then the next morning hail hubby finally remembered and we opened it up and it it had just shattered there was just shards of glass everywhere thank goodness it was in a drawer thank goodness but the wine was it was useless so we we let it thaw we cleaned it out and then we went back to the grocery store to get another one did not put it in the freezer this time you know we all live and learn but
26 it was really nice to just have a bottle of wine it in the place that we were staying we just had it with our breakfast we had it with our midnight snack it was really lovely and cozy you've actually gotten bottles of wine from the liquor store now here so that we can have wine at home we haven't opened them yet but I am interested to try them and have some wine with like some little cheesecake bites or something like that it just feels so sophisticated I don't know why all right guys last but not least we tried the very highly recommended food that a lot of people were telling us that we needed to try in Germany the Dona Kebab guys I
11 have to say it was so good I was extremely surprised because I've had sandwiches before I've had burgers before I've had wraps or whatever but Jers were very different it was something that I've never experienced before obviously not even close to be honest it was so yummy I decided where we were going to go based off of a YouTube video that I've seen it was another YouTuber who was in K or cologne uh visiting the cathedral in that area which I'm so excited to tell you guys about that too next time but he went to a place called nazer Nazar D and um there was apparently one in Frankfurt as well so we decided to try it and oh my goodness it it was so
59 so good hail hubby within the first couple of bites said something like all right how are we going to get these guides to Utah because we need this we just don't have that here it was just perfect the bread was slightly crispy on the outside but not hard and then the inside was very soft and the meat was fantastic like very moist and flavorful the veggies were delicious specifically the salad is what it's called it's like the marinated vegetables so good and refreshing and then the sauce what the heck was in the sauce it was like a mixture of uh like cream but also like Dill was like very
46 Dill heavy and I don't know but it was just oh my gosh to die for I have to admit that I've gotten depressed just several times since is trying this amazing donor in Germany because we've tried several doners after Germany we tried one in Venice we tried one in Copenhagen actually a couple in Copenhagen and nothing even came close to the one that we tried at Nazar I'm so sad There is a Dona place here in Utah that we've been thinking about trying I'm a little bit nervous because if we try the one Dona place in Utah and it's terrible I'm going to be so sad but we
31 really should try it and I'll have to let you know how how we like it but anyway thank you thank you thank you to anyone who recommended to try the Donaire Kebab because it changed my life truly for the best and the worst so I'm excited to go back and have another really good dinner Kebab one day man one day but that is what I have to share with you today thank you so much for listening to my experience let me know your EXP experience especially if you've been in Germany and the United States at certain points let me know what your experience has been whether there was some culture shock or what you loved or hated about certain things and stay tuned for the upcoming video about Cologne again if you like the video make sure to like And subscribe and come see me on Twitch I'd love to talk to you
