Intro

The hosts, Spencer and Blake, introduce the episode focusing on "Digimon: The Movie." They mention the movie involves monster eggs emerging from computers, a destructive "One Bad Apple," and a villainous bunny seeking to reverse time. They also express their enthusiasm for the movie's soundtrack and prepare to discuss the background of the Digimon series.

Digimon Background

Blake shares his history with Digimon, having grown up watching the first three seasons on Fox Kids. He explains that Digimon began as virtual pets similar to Tamagotchi, but with a focus on battling. The original anime, "Digimon Adventure," ran for 54 episodes and the movie they are covering is actually three Japanese movies combined into one American film. The first part of the movie premiered in Japan the day before the anime series. Digimon are digital monsters that originated in the digital world due to the increasing digitalization of the real world.

General Impressions

Spencer admits he has only seen the dubbed version of the movie and was surprised by the amount of music in it. The soundtrack includes a mix of original and licensed songs, such as "One Week" by The Bare Naked Ladies. Blake notes that the American version is sillier than the original Japanese version. The hosts prepare to jump into the first part of the movie, focusing on young Tai and Kari.

Digimon: The Movie Part 1

The first part of the movie features young Tai and Kari finding a Digimon egg that emerges from their computer screen. Kari communicates primarily through a whistle due to being ill. The egg hatches into Botamon, which then evolves into Koromon. The children are accepting of the strange creature. After a scuffle with their cat, Koromon evolves into a large, animalistic Agumon. Agumon leaves with Kari, leading to a fight with Parrotmon, who appears from a portal-like egg. Agumon digivolves into Greymon and defeats Parrotmon after Tai encourages him with Kari's whistle. The segment ends with Greymon defeating Parrotmon, followed by the song "All Star" by Smash Mouth.

Digimon: The Movie Part 2

Four years later, the scene shifts to the older kids from the original Digimon series. Izzy discovers a Digimon egg on the internet, which hatches into Kuramon. Kuramon begins consuming data and causing problems. Izzy seeks Tai's help, who is dealing with relationship issues with Sora. They contact Gennai, who helps them reunite with their Digimon partners, Agumon and Tentomon. Agumon digivolves to Greymon, and Tentomon digivolves to Kabuterimon, and they fight the virus Digimon.

Digimon: The Movie Part 2 - Cont.

The virus Digimon evolves into Infermon, surpassing Greymon and Kabuterimon in power. Infermon attacks during their evolution sequences, causing them to regress. The other kids are busy, except for Matt and T.K., who join the fight from a barber shop computer, adding Gabumon and Patamon to the battle. Greymon and Kabuterimon digivolve further into WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, but they are overwhelmed by emails and lose track of Infermon. Infermon ties up the phone lines, leading Izzy to hack into a military mainframe for a satellite connection.

Digimon: The Movie Part 2 - Climax

Willis, an American character, contacts Izzy, claiming responsibility for the virus. The virus replicates rapidly and evolves to its mega form, Diaboromon. Diaboromon hacks into military satellites and launches nuclear missiles at Colorado and Tokyo. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon are defeated, but Tai and Matt are pulled into the digital world due to their strong connection with their partners. The hopes and dreams of people watching empower WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, allowing them to fuse into Omnimon (also called Omegamon). Omnimon defeats Diaboromon, stopping the nuclear missiles.

Digimon: The Movie Part 3

Four years later, T.K. and Kari are in New York. They encounter Willis and his partner Terriermon, who are being attacked by a mysterious Digimon called Kokomon (actually Wendigomon). The cast of Digimon 02, including Davis, Yolei, and Cody, join the fight in Colorado. Terriermon digivolves to Gargomon.

Digimon: The Movie Part 3 - Conclusion

Kokomon evolves into more powerful forms, eventually becoming Cherubimon (Virus). The heroes receive golden Digi-Eggs, which they use to armor digivolve and defeat Cherubimon. They reassure Willis that Digimon are reborn, and a new egg appears, signaling Kokomon's rebirth.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Spencer expresses a desire to watch the Japanese version of the movie to better understand the story, while praising the high-quality animation of the battles. Blake recommends the Japanese versions for a more mature audience, noting the added narration in the American version. He suggests checking out "Children's War Game" and "Diaboromon's Revenge." They also briefly discuss the new Digimon Adventure 2020 series, praising its high animation and storytelling quality.

0:00 hi I'm Spencer and I'm Blake and you're about to get jum Welcome to our very special live anime Iowa episode of Blake and Spencer get jumped a weekly podcast where we watch the anime so you don't have to but you should still totally watch the anime this week on get jumped we're watching Digimon the movie where monster eggs come out of the computer One Bad Apple nukes the whole bunch and big evil bunny just wants to turn back time he just wants to turn back time if he can he just wants to find away oh man just wants to take back those things that hurt you we just went to the same joke in the same time anyways let's jump I almost wrote it in there we're Big Share fans over here you [Music]

0:52 guys um anyways uh so uh we are going to be going through Digimon the movie um it was uh definitely a interesting rewatch for me um but uh before we get started on this usually what we do with uh with movies when we cover them is give you a little bit of background of uh what the series was beforehand and then some people that uh went into making these movies and uh luckily we have our our Digimon expert here with us today uh which is Blake he has watched so much Digimon yeah I grew up on Digimon uh the first three seasons showed on Fox kids here in the United States when I was a young watching Saturday morning

1:39 television so I grew up on those series after that I think ABC or Disney purchased the rights to it and moved to a different station and I got busy so I haven't seen as much of the series after that uh just kind of depending on the series but I still keep up with it I got the Cyber sleuth games um that just came out on the switch last year so I'm still Digimon fan to this day it's definitely something of a nostalgic uh project for me where I understand that Digimon isn't as great as it could be but my imagination kind of rounds it up um and there's definitely some of that coming up in the movie coverage today where we're getting the American version of these movies which is far sillier than the original version so much

2:24 Sil yeah if you don't know Digimon was a uh a series of virtual pets so if you remember everybody being crazy about tamagachi back in the day Digimon were essentially created to be a tamagachi spin-off uh or not not necessarily spin-off it wasn't made by the same people but uh they were these handheld virtual pets that you could train and uh keep after there's actually a poop joke that comes up in the first movie that is a direct reference to taking care of these monsters because it was all about feeding them and cleaning up after them and stuff but what was different about the Digimon tamagachi uh from the regular ones was that you could connect them to somebody else's Digimon and then you could have your Digimon fight each other so it was a little more it had an extra little miname of the fighting um

3:10 it was explicitly aimed more at boys as you know most action-y things are aimed at boys for whatever reason um and I don't know how super popular it was but they decided to create an anime to go along with it um the original anime which is also called Digimon Adventure um I believe it goes by Digimon Adventure in uh Japanese and in America it's just Digimon season 1 it ran for 54 episodes uh the original 13 create more or less of a complete Arc that has a cliffhanger ending and then uh they were popular enough that they were able to finish it out with the other episodes um and the first so the the Digimon movie we're covering today is actually three Japanese movies shoved into one American movie and the very first part of that is

3:56 going to have these kids very young and so uh Digimon originally premiered the television show in 1999 and the day before the first episode of Digimon premiered the first part of this movie which is the first Digimon movie premiered in theaters in Japan so it was a big hype thing to get people excited about the series and then the Digimon anime series actually makes mention or reference to this movie later on in its run so um it's uh it's a big series it's actually still going today they're doing a reboot of the original right now now that's coming out on uh crunchy roll and Hulu so you can watch that it's actually quite good and I will mention that later on as well CU it's actually relevant to this movie so what you need to know from

4:41 Digimon is that uh Digimon are digital Monsters they are uh life forms that have taken uh taken on a life of their own in digital space basically because of the increasing digital n of our world the uh extra data and stuff need somewhere to go and because of that it created an a whole world with a lot of living monsters in it and then because of some anime magic some kids get pulled into that world and get partnered up with a monster a piece and they have to fight evil monsters and protect their own world from them um so this movie is actually going to pick up uh initially the first part of it is going to start before the series um and then the middle part will be after the first season yeah so so this this movie one of

5:30 one of the greatest things about it and can I just say first and foremost I've I've never seen the Japanese version of this um I have only exclusively seen the uh dubbed version of it and I was severely taken aback by how much ridiculous music happens inside of this movie yeah this movie has a weirdly great soundtrack but it is one of those weird mixtures of like original songs made made for this movie or series that are kind of just okay and licensed songs that are great and you wonder how they got the license to them like one week by The Bare Naked Ladies like what that's in this movie I also was completely taken aack too where I was just like oh Smashmouth is in here oh God Us in here

6:18 just after we started talking about it last week on the show okay um so let's let's go ahead and just jump straight into this um so Blake mentions uh inside of the the notes that we will go over um is this movie is really three movies in one in the American version of it um so uh we'll go ahead and get started with Digimon the movie part one where we F find uh a young Tai and Ki and they're just hanging around in the in the middle of the night and then all of a sudden Ty is the oh yeah Tai is the main main character and then Ki is his younger sister and they both have Digimon Partners in the Original Series yeah but before all of this they're children and

7:05 uh um in in like uh Poltergeist esque form uh Kai is just true sitting out in front of the TV while it or the computer at night where it's like horrible red screening at the same time with just her whistle in her mouth and I didn't real here I didn't realize that that was a thing did was I guess when she was a kid she only communicated whistle is that been a while since I watched the original series and I have never watched the Original Series in the original Japanese the whole way through so I don't know I'm not as versed on that as I am on the movie specifically but uh K's design in the series she does wear a neck uh a whistle on a necklace around her neck and there is a period of time

7:52 when she's younger that she is a very ill and I believe I believe related to that there is this thing about the whistle and so in this she communicates exclusively via whistle for the first five or so minutes um and the whistle shows up later on in the American version and even more prominently in the Japanese version as something of importance although that importance has always been kind of nebulous to me as a longtime Digimon fan so um there's the egg is going to appear from the screen um it is going to come out of the screen very menacingly I would say um and it just kind of like falls into their lap um and then I guess they go back to sleep and Kai is just like okay I guess or Ty is just like oh I guess

8:39 that didn't happen and that was a dream what a weird dream and then he goes down and sees that nope it actually uh is a real thing and uh this egg is just in their world now that came out of the computer and then they're just like okay with it there's also two really good there there's a lot of good visual humor in them um and then there's a lot of okay audio humor in this because most of the audio humor was added in the American version and is targeted at kids so it's Hit or Miss if you're watching as an adult yeah um so the the good visual humor is Tai coming down his bed always slips the same way on the same rung and then they're like oh she has an egg that wasn't a dream all right time for breakfast and the next shot is a like an egg cooking and a skillet you're like oh

9:26 God what did they do and then you see it like it's not that egg of course yeah it turns out uh that uh if you drop a a digimon egg and it rolls around uh that's how you get it to hatch um because it's just going to roll or roll around the house um and then it is going to hatch and turn into I guess its name is botamon um they don't Bon but they don't say it yeah they they don't say it in the movie and by the way for the uninitiated people that are listening to this from me I'm going to say names wrong that is something that is always going to happen with me and I refuse to get better at it because I can't get better at it um it's a it's a feature not a bug but the yeah there's there's all quite a few Digimon SP is running Spencer 1.8 and he has not been

10:13 updated in like 20 years I just keep on hitting the ignore button when it tells me that you have to read through the terms and services so there there are quite a few Digimon names that don't get used I know their names uh I also sometimes know both the American and Japanese names so when Spencer might mess names up I might use those interchangeably unintentionally so you know good luck guys anyways um soon um because of uh I guess love um uh the uh bamon is going to turn into coromon um and then coron is going to start talking to them and they're originally like ah and then they're like no this is okay it's cool to have like a weird little monster that came out of a screen very young kids

11:01 yeah very young kids take things at face value a lot yeah that just reminds me of that joke where he's just like uh he he talks about uh God I I think it's um Donald Glover who's talking about it and he's like little kids will just accept Santa they're like coming down the chimney he gives me presents though cool it's uh it's really true so they're totally fine with this um there's a bit of a scuffle with their cat which was pretty fun as a cat owner this felt very true to life um the cat is very upset because they took the cat's food to feed the Digimon and the cat wants the food back so it attacks the Digimon and it's pretty great uh I also think it is maybe like a very slight nod to the fact that Digimon are uh Fighters and coromon is

11:48 struggling against a cat so things will change I think it's kind of a subtle showing of power creep here because uh pretty much immediately after just some taking care of and getting used to coromon Shenanigans they're going to go to sleep and they'll wake up in the middle of the night and coromon definitely looks like he's sick yeah um and then after uh a minute they start to notice that all of the electronics inside of the house are going to freak out um and that means that we are getting our first uh digivolution um which is where or I guess it's our second one but it's the first one that seems like super super uh pointed to which is coron turning into aaman um except for it's not the aaman that we are used to if you have been watching a

12:34 lot of Digimon when you were kids um he is like what would you say like three times the size of the aaman that Tai has at least twice but probably about two to three times as big uh he's also much more animalistic uh the aaman that we're used to is very uh very sort of optimistic up energy and um can speak in full sentences and this one is basically like a growling dinosaur creature that can say a few words here and there yeah um so uh the the aaman is going to be upset because it turns out uh that uh he doesn't want to be in there uh because I guess the space isn't large enough for him so uh without any hesitation K's like no I'll go with you I'll open the

13:20 window and I'll climb on your back and we're just going to destroy a car real quick uh and then we're going to run the street they live high up they jump many sto down and land on a car also I am positive that that was put in in just the American version where you just like hear tie over the thing just being like Oh no mom's car and I was just like yeah if it yeah as as a good rule of thumb and I I'm going to talk about the actual original versions more in depth later on but as a good rule of thumb if you don't see someone saying something there is no dialogue in the original Japanese version in the American version there is no not dialogue they somebody is always saying something always uh and a lot of it is narration in the Japanese version

14:07 it's just there's no narration yeah um so this is going to uh start a fight after they run around for a minute when suddenly a gigantic gigantic egg appears um and it releases out um I don't know if that's an egg or you know it reminded me of like when a hollow appears um in inside of bleach where just like the sky suddenly opens up and a gigantic monster parrot appears um so that's going to happen um you know yeah I would say that egg is more of a portal than an egg like this parrotmon is an ultimate level which is pretty high up so uh it is not newly born yeah um so um in order to fight against this parrotmon more um aaman is going to um

14:56 eventually uh dig evolve into Greymon on um and they are going to get into more of a scuffle uh there's a lot of back and forth um there's some pretty cool animation too with like giant Kaiju fights um like yeah we should say that about this is that um the the Digimon movie is animated by a really good Studio it is highquality animation like if you're curious about Digimon but you kind of don't get the shows especially the older shows with the sort of lower quality animation um you should check out the movies because that will give you succinct Digimon stories with high quality animation and uh you might be able to enjoy those a little bit more and the

15:41 the Digimon American movie which is available on YouTube to watch for free uh it is pretty good uh like I said it's the American version is far and way targeted at younger audiences more so than the Japanese version so uh if you don't like that kind of like you know rapid fire running joke commentary thing you might have a hard time with it and you might want to seek out the Japanese versions if you're cool with that then uh check out the American version it's pretty easy yeah um so uh Greymon is going to be taken down by parmon until um we have a moment of just get up ISM um where uh where uh Ty is going to be like you need to get up just get up and

16:27 he doesn't move and then he's just like oh you know what'll work a whistle um so he blows into the whistle super hard that wakes up greymond then greymond just he blasts the parrotmon so hard that it whites out the screen um and we go into is this the moment where they get the the the Digimon rap because or is that at the very the Digimon rap is at the very beginning yeah and it's amazing it is a early 2000s rap for a targeted at children anime movie it's phenomenal yeah I I think this might be the point where we start to get some Smashmouth for the it's going to go into Allstar I think um but before this I just wanted to point out that the digi rap is named Digi RP and also the

17:14 performers are um Paul Gordon and mcpod so if you're ever wondering who gave us that sweet sweet Beat it's mcpod um Spencer I mean you got to know the digi evolution is up and coming dig youc Did here did you know what's coming good Lord I know more of the lyrics I watched this thing a lot as a kid yeah so uh we're going to get a title screen that takes us into four years later anytime you see a Time skip title screen in this movie that is an indication that we are switching movies as it relates to the original Japanese also a weird footnote uh in the Japanese version it's 3 years later the original movie takes place 3 years before the series the sequel series takes place 3

18:00 years later in the American version both take place four years apart I don't know why it just is yeah one of my favorite things about the time Jump that we're going to get um and one of one of the most ridiculous things about it too is that you just have if you were nostalgic for the 90s and the way that the internet used to be um have fun watching this movie um because they are just the amount of of the way that they are like here's how the internet works and also there's dialup and also there's just super old cell phones yeah they get knocked off the internet at some point because it Digimon hacks the telephone Network so that's how old it is they are using telephone lines for this yeah uh it's pretty great it's a nice time

18:47 capsule uh and it would be like basically impossible to do this movie this way today but they actually kind of did redo this movie and I'll talk about that later yeah so um here we are um there are the kids from the original season um they uh are are going to be introduced pretty quickly um there's like a eight total but only four are important for our our purposes yeah there's going to be like snapshots of like what they're doing and it's a it's a cool like catchup moment with them um especially it gives you like a quick snapshot into the kind of people each one of them are um and the most important one at the very start is going to be Izzy um because Izzy is going to notice that there is an egg on the internet um which hatches into a digimon

19:32 um and it's going to be named uh kuramon I guess is the name of it yeah kuraman it uh it's a kind of like a little old baby jellyfish uh squidy kind of monster um with one big eye and they're like oh that's that definitely looks like a digimon and it then is going to start eating up data around it and causing major problems in the real world so Izzy is going to rush over to Tai's house to uh see if he can enlist his help in dealing with this uh while Tai is dealing with some problems with uh one of the girls from the original team is a girl named Sora and uh any Digimon fan can tell you that there is Sora Thai shipping romance and there's also Sora

20:18 Matt shipping romance and this movie is playing into the Sora Thai shipping Romance by having them in a silly fight and kind of stubbornly not talking to other so he's trying to deal with that at the beginning and he accidentally sends an email that says love instead of from Tai uh but because uh kuraman is eating data on the internet it doesn't send properly yeah well actually also this is one of the good jokes he doesn't send it his little sister sends it um that's true because he does not intend to send that but there's this is a good joke is he's mad that she sends his his email with the love in it because he didn't mean to send it and then he sees that there was an error delivering it and he's like Why didn't it send it's pretty great I just wanted everybody to know

21:03 that I messed up anyways um so uh we are going to um get a a call though um on the internet after uh Izzy and Ty go to see what's going on um and uh oh by the way Izzy showed up um and he's like things are going bad on the internet let's get on the internet let's hack into the main frame um things are going bad on the internet is not different now all I want all I want is like uh there's just like a like a hack into the future moment for this um where like Izzy just like puts on some sweet sunglasses and then like the Y music plays in the background anyways so uh they get a call from jeni and jeni is this sort of

21:53 mysterious old guy who helps out right now I'm in love with Jen Jeni's gonna show up and he's like I hate that you put that in my head so jeni is going to be like uh I can help you I can give you your Digimon because this movie takes place after the first season and at the end of the first season they leave the digital world and it is as far as we know sealed off from our world that uh for many reasons does not turn out to remain true but this would be the first time that they see their Digimon Partners after the series so it is something of a reunion and something of an unexpected turn of events that they'll be able to take their Digimon with them to solve this problem um and I

22:39 guess because the other uh I was going to say Tamers but they don't call them that yet the other digidestined are not with them they only use their Partners specifically so Tai is partnered with auman again not the same auman from earlier this one is smaller and nicer and uh Izzy is paired with on which is basically like a giant ladybug yeah and uh uh we are going to get uh one of my favorite Digimon um in just a minute uh because they are going to digivolve to get into a fight um with this uh with this I guess they don't know that it's a digimon or they think it's like a digimon mixed with a virus online um this is yeah it's a digimon the American version throws some the the American

23:26 version has this running through line that there is a virus released by one of the characters so that they can tie this movie to the next one that's going to make the part three that's not present in the Japanese version so it is a digimon but in the American version they act as though maybe it's something else because of virus was a human created virus was involved although human created viruses have been involved in the past so it's just for the movie yeah um so they're going to go in and they're going to dig evolve in order to get into the fight and then we get get one of my favorite which is going to be kabutaron because I love kabutaron um he's just a big big awesome like I I guess like Hercules beetle is his his base that he's off of with a horrible xenomorph

24:13 mouth um yeah he's going to be it's pretty great heed one of his abilities to just be like shoot out that extra tongue to like grab onto people yeah his actual ability is to shoot giant uh or hers of lightning at you and they are beautifully animated in this the action sequences are very good um and definitely worth checking out if you like just action anime nonsense or especially if you like Digimon and you haven't seen them yeah I I tend to tell people if they're interested in um if if they're interested in two things they should definitely watch Digimon one of them is if you like Pokemon you should tack out Digimon and number two if you like Kaiju fights like Godzilla you

25:00 should watch Digimon because it's going to give you the best of both worlds with those um especially in this movie it it's it's that higher quality of Animation is definitely going to give you that especially with like the first iteration of Digimon as well before they're like put on Armor Digimon also tends to have a uh a plot in a way that Pokemon does not uh the Pokemon anime is usually just kind of episodic Digimon tends to have a couple of arcs that they go through uh it also focuses more on character growth and development and these things are all watered down somewhat in the American versions because those are targeted at kids uh whereas the original Digimon is targeted more at teens and um the sort of dumbing down of Digimon in the the uh

25:48 American releases does distill a little bit out from the uh more intense and adult themes that they touch on but it's still it's never like a it's never like a more common modern day uh anime where they get into more serious things with maybe the exception of the current Digimon Series yeah then we're going to be introduced to uh the the virus going and evolving um a couple of stages um I guess that's that's called warp Evolution right where they evolve like multi same time yeah I don't yeah I it's called warp Evolution but they usually Digimon kind of announce everything they're doing um with the evil Digimon which is

26:34 currently digivolved to keramon which is its rookie form uh it's going to warp evolve without announcing it so they assume it has become a champion level and champion level would match with Greymon and kabutaron so they should still have an advantage instead it has actually surpassed champion level and gone straight to Ultimate and that level makes it much stronger than them and they're going to realize that pretty quickly when nothing they're doing is working yeah this this stage is going to be named uh infron um and this one uh I guess it's it's it's got like two different attacks the first one is uh that it can like shoot uh like a cannon out of its mouth um and then the other one is just raming speed um because it's n vulnerable when it's blasting um and

27:21 it's going to pull in its arms and it's GNA pull in its head and then just fly super fast at them and crash into them um meanwhile yeah it's ALS it does a series first which is it attacks them while they're evolving so in the series there is an evolution sequence that you see every time they change from one form to the other and it's never really touched on whether this takes real world time or not because usually they go to evolve you watch the sequence and then it picks up where you left off with them and their new forms what this movie reveals is that those Evolution sequences actually take real world time while they transform and infermon attacks them in the middle of the sequence which interrupts it and leaves them actually not only unable to continue that Evolution but they have

28:06 regressed back to an earlier State and are now unable to continue fighting and infon takes that opportunity to piece out this begs the additional question of like why do all of the villains inside of Digimon just allow these Digimon to just digivolve in front of them and they're like about to attack with a super devastating attack and they're just like hold on yeah okay let's go just give me a second give me one 30 second span of time and it also makes me like wonder if uh if like they're they're like looking at these Digimon and there's just like a loading screen appears and then like a video starts to play and you see it like buffering and then like it starts to play they're just watching the video and they're just like I love watching this

28:52 and then you you cut to one of their recurring villains and he's just like I've seen this animation so many times s yeah but as a kid I like the Digimon Digi Evolution sequence I was like [ __ ] yes so excited let's go so every time I was very pumped about that yeah yeah um anyways uh let's let's continue going through this um so um we have our our next uh our our next moment which is uh kind of a a shot around the world um all of the the different uh people that are watching this happen online um they're they're like cutting in and out from all of these different kids who are just I guess just watching this on the computer um which is like super good buffering

29:38 speed by the way um but uh especially for the time yeah they're they're all watching it I guess on dialup um just I it would be way more pixelated I'm just saying um but they're going to start to in instead of instead of letting this fight happen in in true online uh watching video Gam format or watching a movie format uh they are going to just start spamming their emails and just being like you know you need to read our emails which is going to set up a more important Point here in just a little bit now back to the fight yeah they're also doing some mad trash talk at these people but uh Matt or uh Ty and Izzy are going to realize that they cannot do this alone they need some more help they're going to uh try

30:24 to reach out to the other kids and pretty much all of the other kids are busy except for Matt and TK who are out in the country visiting their grandmother and so they have to uh slip away to the only computer in town which is in a barber shop and try and participate in the fight from there so because of that Matt will add gaban into the mix and TK will add patamon and uh these are probably two of the more popular of the main series characters um and then Matt and Tai are also often shown as a pair because they they're the kind of two opposite sides leaders who have different um different philosophies on how they should lead and so they butt heads a lot but ultimately they will generally come together to work on solving a problem and so they they are paired together a lot and their pairing

31:11 together is going to be super important in this movie yeah they are going to be at their grandmother's house uh who uh as they mention inside of the movie does not have an internet connection at all the most uh Advanced thing that she has is going to be an egg timer um which is a little bit of a funny joke um and that is going to lead to them going to some random guy's house um who I guess is Barber Shop oh I couldn't tell if it was a barber shop or it was just some guy's house who also cut hair in his house um yeah I think it's a shot I think you see an outside shot that looks more like a business it could be kind of a mixture yeah um there's also a really funny joke When Ty is like frantically calling to get in touch with them and the grandmother picks it up and she's like

31:56 holding the phone to her ear and while he's talking she like very slowly changes it to the other ear and like definitely misses half the conversation love that anyways um there is going to be a uh a a thing that is going to pay off uh which is that uh they are going to uh digivolve further into war Greymon and metal garurumon um it is going to be a sweet uh digivolution however they are getting completely completely slagged down because of all of the emails that are going to be coming in um and then after that uh they they are not able to stand up and fight correctly because of that um and they lose track of their prey uh because he is going to escape during that lag and then they're going

32:41 to completely crash um and the reason they've crashed is because um after escaping this virus who is a digimon is going to tie up all the phone lines so that is going to lead to like a McGuffin moment where is he's going to be like let's just Connect into a military main frame um yeah he leaves for like 12 minutes to go get a satellite phone that can hack the US military's Network hack the system I'm hacking through time any they're able to get back on with a satellite connection and that's the important part and when they get back on they see that their Partners have been absolutely wrecked and uh Matt and TK who did not lose connection are like where were you guys you left us we

33:27 needed you not a great situation yeah um the other really important thing that we're going to be getting a tie in um is that there is going to be this other character great great quality you're doing quality stuff um anyways um we are going to get a tie-in from a character in America who keeps on writing to Izzy telling him I'm sorry all of this is my fault and just keeps on trying to figure out things and he's just like can you handle my problems for me um his name is Willis um and uh he is going to uh really really tell you how he feels um and how he's important here um and meanwhile our virus is replicating um he

34:12 is replicating it's evolved to its mega form as well yeah he is going to be replicating in an incredibly fast rate um just completely doing a Dos attack on everybody's system um he is going to uh event hack into these military satellites which I guess or are giving access to nuclear codes um and then he's just going to be like let's shoot nukes um especially the one at Colorado where Willis is um because yeah I think that's American only because I I was typing up the notes and I was like what happened to that nuke because we'll see he's going to shoot nukes at Colorado that's where Willis is and at Tokyo which is where our main heroes are and they have 10 minutes before the the missile land

34:57 so now they got a pretty serious time clock and they're going to realize that in order to stop the missile launch they need to kill the original diaboromon which is what he's called now and in order to do that they're going to have to figure out which one he is but he's already replicated I believe hundreds of thousands of times so odds are not great um they're going to send in metal guran and War grammon uh they are going to basically just dodge some attacks for a second before getting totally wrecked because they're facing like a full screen of Reds worth of laser beams coming at them and they just cannot Dodge that leaves them in a bad State and they are like completely completely motionless and unresponsive and because Ty and Matt have such a close bond with them they are able to reach toward their

35:44 computers and they find themselves appearing in that digital space they got pulled into it because of their connections would you say it was Digital World yep and that is going to lead them uh to 50% of an equation that's going to lead to the uh original premiere of one of the fan favorite Digimon the other uh percent is that you're going to see all of these emails start to show up as little um little rectangles with like um the person's picture on it and from those pictures are going to become like glowing sort of human ey forms are going to flow out towards the Digimon and I always loved this as a kid and I I still love it now because it's like the idea that like everyone's hopes and dreams are on you and because they care so much

36:30 they're like empowering you with their uh I don't know attention or intention or something like that um so basically that um forms around war gmon and metal guman mixed in with Tai and Matt being there allows them to fuse together and to become uh omnimon also called omegamon in the original yeah omnimon is great um he is going to just completely complet completely wreck him um he is going to use two sweet sweet attacks uh one of them is just like uh big giant Sword of Justice um and the other one is like a through a wolf mouth that just shoots out like balls of energy um and it just completely decimates uh to the

37:17 point where it it's it's uh the uh I guess God I cannot pronounce this di diaboromon did I pronounce that right yeah it's yeah diaboromon yeah so uh he is going to be completely decimated to the point where he is back to his original form every other version of himself that he has replicated um is going to be down and right before the the nukes land he is stabbed through the face in a really brutal fashion um By The Sword and his face Falls in half and then he goes away and then behind it is like a little clock and then the clock stops and then a nuke just falls out of the sky into Tokyo and just splashes and meanwhile Sora is just like fall Tokyo B it's totally

38:03 fine yeah there's also some really good jokes and I think really good tension increasing where they cut away to other characters so like at one point they're like oh we only have one minute left and then you like cut away to his mom who's cooking something and only has one minute and then Joe is taking a test and he only has one minute they they keep doing these cutaways and I love it I think it adds to the tension really well and it's also just a nice little touch to just spruce up the moment a little bit more also there's a running gag in the Digimon movie that Tai's mom is a horrible cook that is also present in the uh American Series in the original Japanese she does not serve them beef jerky shakes she serves them oolong tea she's just giving them normal food she's a perfectly fine cook okay this takes us into uh our last

38:51 part which is going to be the the third part of the movie um and this is going to be an additional four years later uh TK and Ki are in New York um and there's um some mysterious Digimon it's going to be um you know named a couple of different most of the time if we all the time they're always going to call it cocon you only see it in its form as cocon in flashbacks uh it is actually if you want to look up the Digimon it's windo which is based off of the windigo and it's a giant horrible monster uh and it's going to fight against my number one favorite Digimon which is Terry yman who is adorable and I love him no I I'm just saying that we don't have enough time for you to go on di

39:37 tribes because we have to get through the rest of this movie um and I also want to give a a brief moment at the very end uh to kind of talk about it and see if anybody um wants to kind of just chat with us real quick um so with that being said uh the third part is a completely different movie yeah this is uh basically they're going to meet up with Willis and his partner terrierman they are also being attacked by a mysterious Digimon they call kookoon who's a big monster and uh kon's going to show up a few times attack them he will be repelled by their attacks um this also involves the cast of uh Digimon 02 which is the second season in America so the time skip has gone enough that we have a new set of Heroes uh TK and Kari are going to get

40:23 whay on a train while trying to join Willis in Colorado to handle kokomon meanwhile Davis Yoli and Cody who are the main Heroes of Digimon 02 are going to join him there and help him fight uh his partner teron will become garamon they'll all armor digivolve their Digimon and uh they'll start to fight kokoman in a giant field yeah there's going to be um some uh Evolutions that are going to happen with our our villain kokon um he is going to uh turn into uh more and more powerful versions of himself until eventually he turns in um I think it's called cherubimon um and that is uh virus mode of chuiman um and he is just

41:10 going to just ruin them um he's going to at one point just like like flip them around holy level Digimon oh sorry I'm having uh Wi-Fi connection problems so you go ahead okay anyways um so he going to uh throw them around um he is a even higher level um than everybody else um so in order to defeat them uh or defeat him uh they are are given their are golden eggs uh they use these golden armor eggs I guess they're called Digi uh uh metals or something I I don't know um I'm not I'm not as this as you are I was jumping

41:56 into to it after not watching this movie for years and I was just like there are so many things that I have not seen from this show and it begged the question by the way they're going to win that's all you really need to know yeah um and they they they kill the evil Digimon and then they assure Willis that like Digimon don't ever die they just get reconfigured and so by the end of the movie he's going to see that there's a new egg that's shown up and that's going to be the egg for cookon to be reborn I I had this opinion of these movies and I say that because the American version I legitimately after watching as an adult do not want to watch again um because now I want to watch the Japanese version so I can know

42:42 what is happening um because I I just I found myself really not enjoying it um except for the battles which I loved because they were just high quality High animated battles and I was just like yes I wish this was all of Digimon I wish every time IID watch this it was just a 30 minute segment of different monsters just beating the hell out of each other and that's what I would prefer to have always seen it is um it it is really high quality animation it's a really good direction uh so the anime the sequences are all beautiful and they all look really good both from um from the animation standpoint but also like

43:28 following what's going on there's some good camera movements and stuff like that um so you can really enjoy it from those perspectives so if you want to check out the Japanese version as I've said they are aimed at a more mature audience um so in in the Japanese version you're going to have this fall a little bit more into like the Naruto territory than the Pokemon territory as far as uh intended audience um so they're going to be much more serious like I said there's a lot of narration in this movie if you don't see someone speaking on screen it is likely that the narration you're hearing is added into the American version and in the Japanese version nobody is speaking there's just whatever you know underscoring instrumentation is going on which I think also helps to give it a little bit more of a mature presentation um the first part is actually the movie itself

44:14 is only like 10 or 15 minutes and it uh I believe it's just called Digimon Adventure the movie um it's pretty easy to find the second one is called our war game or children's war game and that's the one where they're fighting on the internet to stop a nuclear missile and then um the third one is called hurricane touchdown and that one is actually quite a bit longer in the American version it's only about 30 or 40 minutes and the Japanese version it's about 90 minutes so they cut out a lot I would say that a lot of it is very slow paced and not necessarily needed it's probably it's the only Digimon movie uh that is featur length with one exception of the CG movie they did a little while later but uh it is it's got a lot of uh

45:04 empty space it's good if you want something that is very slow paced and then has these shocks of action but for you Spencer I don't think it was it would be what you're looking for you'd probably want to check out children's war game the original um there's also a sequel that takes place with the 02 kids so it's the fourth Digimon movie and it's called diaboromon Revenge uh you might be able to better find it with the Japanese name which is Diablo 's revenge and that has him coming back to life and evolving to a greater stage and fighting them in the middle of Tokyo bay it's very good nice that that just reminds me of so you're you're starting to watch the the new series and uh like yeah and I have some things to say about that too okay um because it's so the first three episodes are kind of a modern rehash of

45:51 the second movie The Hour war game so they have the whole like nuclear missile countdown clock need to kill this before the bomb goes off thing going on in that new series so I watched those first three episodes to cover that it's not exactly the same and it's not the same Digimon but it is definitely it's an unambiguous Riff on that movie and it's uh also the series is great it's off to a good start it is much higher animation and Direction quality than previous Digimon entries and it's worth checking out if you're interested yeah yeah I I would say that I I don't watch a lot of Digimon and I I I didn't follow along with a lot of it when I was like a a little kid um watching uh but I I definitely am more interested in getting into it now where they have such a good

46:37 backing and such a good fan base that anything that is going to be coming back I was assuming is just going to be super high quality in the same way that like the the the newest Pokemon series is just way higher quality than I've ever seen in any other Pokemon series where it's just like yeah like I I I went into it thinking that I was going to see good old Ash um but instead I was like oh it's it's a much higher quality Ash um it looks like he's been he's been put through a a uh a lot of money in revamping him yeah that's very much what's happening with the new Digimon series which is also called Digimon Adventure you'll usually find it by looking for Digimon Adventure 2020 it's also Digimon Adventure colon as the actual title um

47:23 and it is available on crunchy roll and Hulu Hulu also has the other series of Digimon from 1 through four but those are in English only whereas the new Digimon Adventure has not been translated into English yet so that's sub only yeah um it's also yeah it's way higher quality but I would say with the Pokemon series it is what you it it is a Pokemon series like it's not getting dramatically more mature it's just better animation quality I think the Digimon series is I more of a step up as far as storytelling in addition to animation quality than the PO series is but Digimon has failed to stick the landing in the past so time will tell how it goes from here it's only eight episodes deep right now yeah um and with that being said we're like almost out of
